Heidi Vogel with Ariya played 2 fantastic sets of Latin Jazz. Amazing vocals collaborating with world class accompanying musicians. Everyone brought such joy to the making of truly uplifting music in an intimate, atmospheric and welcoming venue. We stumbled across this gig at the last minute and what an experience it was. Brazilian jazz music in an ideal setting, played to the highest standard with peace, love and groove!

What an amazing night. We were blown away with the whole experience. Never having been to The Verdict Cafe before we weren't sure what to expect. The venue was intimate with the perfect atmosphere for a brilliant night of Jazz. We were so lucky to have picked a night of absolutely awesome entertainment. The Riley Stone Lonegan Quartet gave us a memorable evening where we felt privileged to be part of the audience.

We were hoping to catch a jazz act at their downstairs venue but were too late to get seats. Thankfully they relay the gig to a big screen upstairs. Nice (but not huge) selection of beers and spirits. Food looked great too but we didn't eat this time. The jazz was quite "out there" but a really nice, cool but unpretentious little venue

Popped in for lunch while working at the AMEX Building. Spent the whole of my break chilled, with good coffee and an amazing Greek Salad! You should check this out if in the area!

The Verdict continues to provide amazing tasty food which is cooked with love. And for the month of October has the added benefit of the walls displaying Alice Volk's photographs which are taken in Morocco and Cuba of empty seats. John will also cater for special events but it's open early mornings till 4pm

All the food was fresh beautifully seasoned and the colour and taste was amazing and the staff friendly and great. I also eat at the Verdict regularly on a Wednesday and a Friday lunch time and the salads toasted sandwiches and specials are full of flavour delicious and tasty and in the Winter the soups are comforting and warming with an unusual twist.

I am writing about the Jazz Space in the Basement of this Venue not the Cafe as I did not eat there. The gig I attended on Jan 29, was Nérija a septet of women musicians based in London, playing trad jazz, afro beat with a strong hit of funk. Most pieces written by various band members. Four brass at the front with guitar, d bass and drums. Smooth, loud, friendly, lively, skilled musicians each showcase with brilliant solos held together with absolute precision by the bass and driven by the drummer. That these ladies enjoyed themselves was evident as they smiled laughed in between. This is a very small intimate venue. Ir didn't look like it could hold more that 60 people so the sound hits you and stayed within you. I observed a grand piano, not used that night but good to see the owner has been professional in including it. Drinks were reasonable but as I am used to London prices everything else is reasonable! Love the decor upstairs - a large picture of the "Day out in Harlem". On the back wall a floor to ceiling screen projecting the gig downstairs if you cant physically get down there.Book early and reserve your seat is the usual recommendation. I concur with that. Very friendly crowd, people chatted to newcomers (me) and were delighted with the Band.Would I go back - Absolutely.

The owner is reaally lovely and friendly, seems like a quirky guy which is always a plus! The food was really tasty, they were out of baguettes but there was some on display which confused us, but we really loved our sandwiches anyway, they are pricey when you look at the menu but when you taste them you realise why they cost so much! Excellent quality! We went during the day and there was no music playing, I liked the intimacy and personal feel of that factor but my boyfriend said he would have preferred music as it was a bit too intimate for him.Best sandwiches in Brighton :D hopefully I'll come back here before I leave Brighton in a couple weeks.

This is a lovely place to meet up for light meal of a coffee in the daytime , to for something to eat before going downstairs to watch some jazz in the purpose built auditorium in the cellar. The cellar recreates some of the imagined atmosphere of a 50s jazz club with more modern mod cons. For those unable to get downstairs the Jazz can be heard in the upstairs cafe .there is a ceiling to floor screen upon which the acts can be viewed. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is prepared on the premises and to order , with the exception of a few sandwiches at lunchtime. Takeaway food is available at lunchtime. There is a free session midweek with an open invitation for audience members to join the band on stage for a number , at weekends some very interesting modern jazz acts can be seen in the evenings.

The Verdict Jazz Club is one of the best jazz clubs outside of London. It is an intimate venue with seating arranged cabaret style. Live professional bands of a national standing play every Friday night. The audience is also always lively and appreciative. A must visit venue for jazz fans visiting Brighton but book if you do not want to be disappointed. Good beer and coffee too.

It's a café during the day, but in the evenings, live music abounds. Most of the evenings are ticket only, but on a Wednesday evening it's free jazz jamming session. Excellent evening with some very good musicians playing. There is a resident trio and then people can play in the second session.

Dad is a professional jazz musician and restaurateur in France and he loved this place. The food was good, the music sublime and the wine list extremely well thought out. The menu was quite limited so make sure you know what they're serving and that you like it. Beautifully cooked and served with character.

A group of 6 visited on a weekday lunchtime. We ordered 5 sandwiches and 1 salad which all came at different times, two orders were incorrect when they came and then one of these was wrong again when it came the second time. 45 mins before everyone had their good. The staff were nice and the food was good but the service time and accuracy definitely needs improvement.

I went to The Verdict with my mother, husband, son, niece, and we had three dogs with us. We sat in the large spacious park at the back of the cafe which has a serving hatch and a back door entrance into the cafe. My mother has been here a few times and so we went on her recommendation as we knew we could take the dogs there too. My word, what a wonderful place, great ambiance, lovely friendly staff, the owner came and spoke to us a few times, he obviously takes a lot of pride in his business, and he is a terrific chef. He knows just how to cook Roast Beef beautifully RARE which is difficult to find outside your own home! My husband and son had the rare beef sandwich which was delicious apparently. My mother had the rare roast beef salad, again, delicious. My niece had the meat platter board, and I had the hummus, feta cheese, char grilled vegetable and salad mezze, which we shared, was truly scrumptious! Our salads came with a bowl of fresh slices of gorgeous bread. My mother was right, what a gem, and it is just a short walk from where she lives, I'm jealous!!

Stopped off here by chance. Only for a coffee initially but brownie looked so good I couldn't say no. My other half ordered a roast beef and horseradish sandwich. Looked amazing and by the way he wolfed it down it obviously tasted pretty good too. I had a mocha which was lovely. The cafe is decorated beautifully. The staff are very friendly. It's nice to find an independent coffee shop where the owners take such pride!

I am so lucky. I work nearby; and it just happened to be a place I stopped into on my way to work the first week. BEST coffee and BEST atmosphere in Brighton. LUNCH is amazing; the roast chicken sandwich on granary (from the Flour Pot) is my favourite.Jon and Kate run it and are trying to work in Jazz and such some evenings too. There is a garden park out back for when the weather is good.

Me and my partner went here for lunch with our little dog. We could have sat inside but decided to sit in the garden/park area in the back. I had a sourdough baguette with humous, feta, aubergine and salady bits and my partner a mezze board. we also had a juice and some water and paid 10£ for it. the portions were great and the food excellent, very good quality for money. The staff is very friendly and lovely and we will definitely be coming back here.

I can't vouch for the food but it looked good, the venue is great though and the atmosphere nice. This is a cafe during the day. They serve food at night and the best bit is the live jazz in the basement. This place hasn't been widely marketed, if it was better known it would be a huge success. It could do with a wider selection of drinks and cocktails but the proprietor is clearly passionate about the music.A really good venue and well worth a visit. Laid back older crowd.

The Classic Breakfast was really good. The food was cooked fresh, hot, and very well presented. Fresh orange juice and lovely coffee & tea. The staff were very welcoming, accommodating and friendly. The rest of the menu looks very interesting with a long list of available sandwiches and baguettes. Would very much recommend this cafe and will definitely return when visiting Brighton again.
