Absolutely fantastic little cafe right behind York Minster. It has about 3 tables (for two) inside the cafe but quite a good number of tables outside. We had coffee and cake, which were both excellent! Can totally recommend!

What a lovely little cafe for a pit stop, and so close the Minster. Had a tea and a flapjack. The flapjack was just right with a crunchy edge but soft gooey texture. Absolutely perfect. All the cakes looked amazing and it was hard to choose. Service was excellent!

this cafe is so cosy and quaint!! the decor was so homely and it felt like such a peaceful place, plus the man who served us was very sweet. i’ve heard their hot chocolates are good so i got one and oml it was incredible, it tasted like when your mum makes hot chocolate on the pan at home when you’re young very comforting, and the mug it came in was also gorgeous. the location is beautiful you get a view of the minster while also being away from the bustle, it’s the perfect place to relax or work. this is definitely a new fave of mine <3

Great service and comfy place for a coffee. They have accommodating outdoor and indoor seating. Highly recommend going here for a pit stop before or after visiting York Minster.

Delicious fruit Scones with clotted cream and jam and a generous pot of tea per person. We sat outside in the glorious sun...blissful.

Beautiful cafe in a great location. The staff were really friendly and helpful, they really went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our time there. The cafe is a beautifully decorated boutique cafe with outdoor seating. The food was delicious and fresh. We would love to visit again.

I have been into the Vanilla Cafe a couple of times now and I can safely say it is my favourite place to go for tea/ lunch in all of York. The service was quick and friendly, the coffee delightful and the atmosphere and interior homely in the best way. With a view of the Minster and surrounding buildings it's hard to go wrong. There is also lots of lovely outdoor space to. It's the kind of place any mother or granny would adore. I'll be back soon <3

Visited this lovely little cafe today. Really cosy and decorated really nicely. Great location right next to the Minster. The hot chocolate and tea were lovely and reasonably priced too. The gentleman in there was lovely and we had a friendly welcome. Would definitely recommend.

Friendly service, homemade cake in a great location opposite York Minster on very pretty College Street. It has a real village feel around the area with seating indoors and outdoors. I went for Spiced Apple Caramel Cake which was lovely and a pot of tea, I think I paid £5.50 which is very reasonable especially due to its location and great views. Cake tasted lovely and got a couple of cups of tea out of the pot. I sat indoors which is quite intimate but perfect for singles or couples, plus lots of seating outdoors for bigger groups. Would recommend especially if visiting the Minster or Treasurers House which is just round the corner.

I love this cafe! It is by far my favourite place to sit out with a coffee/cake, all whilst enjoying a spectacular view of the minster! The cupcakes are absolutely divine and the tea room feels so cute and traditional, make sure to swing by!

This is a little café not far from the Minster. The coffee was excellent and hot both the scone and teacakes were lovely. Well worth a visit.

This was one of the strangest vibes I’ve ever encountered in a café. When we came in our party of four were told we could sit across two tables downstairs, directly in sight of the counter (which has a gorgeous vintage display box that I imagine looks amazing filled with scones and biscuits but was inexplicably empty). Then we were ignored (not because the two teenage girls who were working were busy but because they were stood in the kitchen area on their phones - I truly don’t think they would have spoken to us without us asking for stuff) until after ten minutes I asked for a menu and was told “no we just have what’s in the window”.. okay! We ordered some drinks that were very nice but overall the atmosphere was just— odd!! Our party agreed that the whole vibe of the place was strange, like it was really putting the staff out to be open and having to deal with people. Weird little place that completely lacks atmosphere despite it’s lovely location.

Sat outside in the sunshine in this quaint area beside the Minster was delightful. Tea and homemade cake. Delicious. A shame that it had to be take away cups rather than china due to Covid restrictions. That can’t be helped though. Loved it.

So , after a walk around York we settled on this cafe . Food beautiful . But and Covid or not , shouldn't make a difference as it's all outside eating. Rotten plastic cups and nasty paper Plates and wooden spoons . Where's the fun , pleasure in that! No excuses for bad choices on management to forget service and style in beautiful tea cafe. Put away the easy option of disposables, return to some style and elegance plz

They refused me entry to use their toilet after our coffees. Their rationale for this was that they closed in 2 minutes. A slight more receptive customer friendly approach would have been more productive.

A lovely little pavement cafe, in the shadow of the Minster's east end. Service was friendly and cheerful, if a little slow; really good tea and coffee and some of the best scones and sponge cakes we have ever eaten.

After a festive walk through town found this cafe and stopped for a warming coffee and piece of cake , the coffee was lovely but the brownie was quite frankly the best I’ve ever tasted , I can’t wait to go beach and get another

Popped by for a cuppa and a cake, fair enough. Disappointed to be served my drink in a disposable cup and cake on a paper plate. Even the knife to spread my butter was wooden. If nothing else they’re doing their bit on a windy day to contribute to York’s litter problem. If I come to a cafe I want plates, cups and cutlery. At least I know not to come back.

Stopped at The Vanilla Cafe for cake and coffee. I had the coffee and walnut cake which was spot on. Would definitely recommend it. Located on College Street. When sat outside you have a fantastic view of York Minster. It’s a good place to sit and watch the world go by.

This cafe is very close to York Minster in a row of old buildings. There is seating outside and inside. I had a coffee and home made shortbread. Service was very good.

Weather permitting we always enjoy a drink sitting outside the Vanilla Cafe. Now they have even provided throws should you feel a bit chilly.

Copas y platillos mal combinados y una zona de asientos peculiar y bonita en el piso de arriba hacen de este un encantador café para visitar. Nos detuvimos aquí a mitad de nuestro recorrido a pie y nos encantó tanto que volvimos al día siguiente. Los pasteles son deliciosos, tomamos café, nueces y limón, ambos igualmente encantadores. Sin embargo, es algo a tener en cuenta: los baños están en una escalera estrecha, por lo que si tiene problemas de movilidad, esto puede ser un problema. Sigue siendo un lugar encantador para tomar café y pasteles. aunque. Ñam!

Having just walked out of somewhere for poor service, it was a pleasure to have cake and coffee here.As we were ordering the last free table was taken outside.The owner then said he would sort something out and he brought out another table and two chairs.Brilliant service, good coffee and delicious bake well and butterscotch cakes.Would come here again and throughly recommend here.

This cute little cafe situated behind the Minster is more spacious than it looks from the outside. There are table on two floors, all with views out to a lovely green. We had tea and toasted teacakes which were served quickly by a very friendly member of staff. The teacake came with butter and jam. The prices were very reasonable and it was a cash only establishment.

On a cold January morning we popped into the Vanilla Cafe and to warm up my wife and I ordered 2 Coffees and a slice of ginger loaf. It did the trick, warmed up with lovely coffee, and the loaf was pretty tasty too. We dined upstairs, really narrow stairs and sat in the window seat, watching the world go by. Spoke to the owner - a lovely man.

We came across this café having been unable to visit the Minster due to Advent Sunday services. A small café in a quiet location but well worth a visit. Friendly, family run and quirky with a nice collection of cups and saucers sourced form local charity shops. nothing matches which adds to the charm!.
