Cosy Club York in York

It was a Saturday afternoon so expected it to be busy, however managed to get a table for drinks easy enough and although was busy at the bar, the service was really slow with no sense of energy and told to move to different ends of the bar without being served. When we did get served we were shocked to discover we paid £48 for two pints of lager and a bottle of Prosecco. What was shocking about it is the Prosecco was from marks and Spencer’s!!! It was warm also and the glasses had lipstick on them. We wished we had walked up the road to actual marks and Spencer’s bought a bottle of chilled Prosecco for a lot less expense and money left over for a few packets of Percy pigs!!! I understand bars get busy (move staff around to address this at busy times perhaps) and mark up drinks, however it was unacceptable and a shame as used to like it here.

Went with my wife for lunch today after a busy morning shopping. Impressive bar restaurant apart of being dark that we struggled to read the menu which has large selections of starters and mains. The service provided by a pleasant competent waitress. We ordered salmon and chicken for main which were about average and cost £45 with 10% service which was optional. We left with the impression that this place is great for drinks only.

Cosy Club was a good experience for me. I was solo, enjoyed a very fine entrée of Seabass with leek sauce and new potatoes. Staff was friendly and efficient. Prices are what you have to pay nowadays.

Lewis was the most attentive (and handsome) waiter we may have ever experienced. The food was amazing and the drinks were even better. Lewis you’re a stunner x

Excellent service from the welcoming staff. Especially as we had just had to walk out of the no 8 bistro due to staff rudeness. Gorgous building also. Good atmosphere.

It’s the 3rd time we’ve eaten at the York one and the food is always as good as we remember. We were served by Tanya this time, she was friendly and attentive and didn’t rush us at all. Tanya gave us suggestions on drinks and told us about their new dishes that were coming out soon. looking forward to trying some next time:)

As with most cosy clubs this is set in a beautiful building. We had a lovely welcome and the staff here really are exceptional. Had a breakfast this time which was very tasty and in the relaxed and nicely decorated restaurant making a pleasant experience.

Garden Brunch was lovely! Fast and friendly service from Tanya, lovely person. Peach and elderflower spritz was unavailable so I was recommended the marmalade spritz with was refreshing. Partner enjoyed both his brunch and drink too

Tanya was amazing! I have a citrus allergy and she was very good with it! I really appreciated the reassurance that she gave me, Tanya checked for me which made me feel a lot more relaxed when my food came. Such a lovely person! I loved my little red flag on the plate:)

I never understand why city centre venues are dog friendly. We’re not exactly in the middle of an outdoor walk. We arrived and before we even ordered a drink the repetitive yapping of a small dog put us off. I know, I know, people love their dogs but I don’t want my day ruined by one. As someone who was viscously attacked by a dog that was supposedly a ‘loving family pet’ I just don’t trust them and a noisy dog barking all the time is unsettling for someone with a fear. I had one glass of wine, it wasn’t chilled, it wasn’t nice and was served in a horrible thick rimmed glass. Despite this I have to say we were welcomed really well and all the staff were lovely. Just an issue I have with encouraging dogs and poor quality wine service.

I was looking for a nice place to go for lunch with my family which includes our dog. Very disappointed to see a review in November 2023 of Cosy Club York -complaining that a dog friendly restaurant had dogs in attendance. What was more disappointing...

Terrible service for people with allergies. Notified the waitress that I have a citrus allergy when ordering my drink, just to make sure a lemon slice wasn’t put in it and have been left wishing I hadn’t said anything at all. The waitress immediately looked horrified and stopped the order, rushing off to get the manager like it was an emergency and no one else was equipped to deal with the HUGE SITUATION of 🚩🚩🚩‼️‼️‼️Someone With An Allergy 🚩🚩🚩‼️‼️‼️ Waitress came back five minutes later and said she would take the order after all as it was too busy to get the manager. I ordered the House rostis with toppings of avocado, halloumi, and bacon. Ten minutes after ordering, the manager came over to our table, stopped the whole conversation and asked who has the allergy, said everything should be fine. I continued to be interrupted in the middle of conversations with my friends no less than five times before the food arrived. Once to say that the smashed avocado contained lemon juice but they could make it fresh for me without the lemon juice and so would I like that? …..obviously I would like the avocado without the thing i’m allergic to in it, why do you need to ask me? Another time to say that actually I wasn’t having avocado smash anyway, just plain avocado, so it didn’t matter. Another time to then say that the pre-mix for the rostis contained lemon or lime juice so I couldn’t have rostis. honestly was quite shocked that the rostis weren’t made fresh in the first place as it’s quite simple to grate some potato and fry it together with onion, and even so if they usually have a pre-mix then why could they make me some fresh? Instead I was offered hash browns, and unfortunately I did think these would be a little more than some frozen hash browns from the supermarket stuck in the microwave, but I suppose I was wrong! Before the food came i was interrupted AGAIN to be told that the grill has had food containing citrus in it, with no soloution offered lol. They didn’t say “but we’ve made sure to prepare your food separately” or “we’ve cleaned it throughly” like many other restaurants and cafes I’ve been to have said. they were just waiting for me to say “that’s okay” so that I wouldn’t sue them if I had a bad reaction. I strongly had the impression that they didn’t care whatsoever about my health and the actual allergy but that they just cared about not being sued. I was optimistic when my friends food came as they got burgers and they looked really nice with coleslaw, nice presentation etc. However my food then arrived last and is pictured below. I have no idea why they couldnt even be bothered to put it on one plate but even that seemed was too much trouble. To have two red flags on my food as well as a red allergy sticker on my drink is frankly embarrassing and massively singled me out as "different". There's no need for the stupid red flags, but worse than that the food was literally something i would have made for myself as a sad dinner when theres only a couple of things in the fridge. It was a cold hard tiny piece of cut up avocado, a tiny piece of bacon, and a small bit of halloumi on one 🚩🚩🚩 ALLERGY FLAGGED 🚩🚩🚩 plate and two clearly supermarket brought warmed up frozen hash brown on another plate. No salad, no garnish, no sauces, no seasoning. Just four dry ingredients. For this and a coke I paid £13.65 🙃🙃🙃 I almost would have rather had an allergy attack and got a proper meal like my friends did and not been singled out, interrupted multiple times, and embarrassed.

Every time we come to Cosy Club, which is often, Tanya is always here to make our time here exceptional. The food is incredible and the ambiance is one of a kind, but Tanya is an absolutely golden addition to anyone’s experience! She remembered us from last time, and also remembered our allergies! Tanya is more friend than waitress and truly make any experience extraordinary!

Both me and my boyfriend had the arancini and dirty chicken burgers and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a lovely waitress (Tanya) who was chatty, helpful and very friendly. 100% recommend.

Nice place and good service. It’s a little bit dark. Food and drinks were of good quality but the food came cold. Drinks were quite expensive.

We were looked after by Tanya who was friendly and funny. Could not fault the service, prompt but not pushy, encouraging but not sales-y. The food was very nice. Everything arrived at the same time and the chips were particularly tasty and well salted.

Fantastic food, incredible service! Tanya looked after us from the moment we got here and was energetic, fun and the best waitress we’ve been had. Hands down our brunch experience was made 10/10 by her, also every other staff was friendly and bubbly. Would recommend to anyone.

After trying The cosy club in Harrogate we were really looking forward to trying the 1 in York but unfortunately it really didn’t live up to our expectations. Food was terrible and we wasn’t even checked on at all to see how the food was (even though my full was left untouched basically on the table) service was zero. We will not be returning and I would advise anyone thing of trying this place please don’t waste your time and money

Not great for those with sensory issues. We were sat in the centre and could hear the restaurant music and also the radio playing in the kitchen. We left based off this and told the server, hopefully action is taken as those with sensory issues or APD will struggle.

Another lovely, comfy outlet of the Cosy Club. We could have stayed as we felt so relaxed but that would mean seeing less of York. Friendly staff too which adds to the whole experience.

Tanya was a great server and was great at advising us on the menu. Only marking down due to the quality of some of the ingredients used and the fact our drinks came out later than our food, and the venue was fairly quiet.

We got drenched in the rain trying to find somewhere to eat on Friday night and ended up stumbling past here - such a lovely welcoming from the staff and a really nice meal and cocktails! Good prices too - we had 3 courses each, 2 cocktails each and a coffee each for just over £100! If you're a fan of the Fallout video game franchise and have played New Vegas it is worth a visit - it has that retro casino/bar red velvet vibe.

Came here on Monday 5 Feb. Stood at the bar while the two members of staff completely ignored me. No 'hiya, we'll be right with you' . Urgh... where has basic customer service gone. The bar was also dead so not a big ask. Nice place just poor service.

Very attentive. Children are very welcome. My 3yo daughter was brought some crayons and some pictures to colour in. Their GF menu is brilliant. Lots to choose from and the food was delicious. Will be going back again.

Big art deco space, with glowy lights, candles, sofas, and comfy armchairs. The huge, spectacular central light is worth a look. Mixed client base of all ages with space to manoeuvre pushchairs around the seating. Music is 60's through 80's but well chosen and not the monotonous playlist found in most places these days. We have never eaten there but the thick, foamy, oat milk cappuccino is always really good and there is a large selection of spirits and wines. Sadly, they don't seem to serve a wheat beer.

Had a fantastic brunch, good dietary requirement options, vegan/ gluten free and vegan. All enjoyed our food a lot and Tanya was fantastic!
