The Vane Arms is in a beautiful setting. On my visit, the place is lovely with a great outside space, the menu is varied and food really tasty. What made my visit worth 5 stars were the fab staff , Chris and George. Friendly, helpful and generally great guys. Thank you

Sunday lunch. Warm friendly greeting and efficient service. All starters were very good and Roast Dinner 2 x pork and 2 x beef were also good- perhaps could have been a little hotter if I was being picky . All in all and enjoyable catch up and meal.

We came across this as a dog friendly pub - and it was that! My husband and I, with Arthur our Springybum went for lunch yesterday, and couldn't fault the service. The food was great. The only thing... and this is constructive I hope... I had the chicken flatbread. It was delicious! BUT, I think having the wrap and the tzatiki separate would be a better idea? As it was a bit sloppy. We will be back for sure!!

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming and we managed to get a table without booking. Staff are pleasant and service is timely. We enjoyed all of the four dished that we ordered and would particularly recommend the risotto. There was a cheery wave from the waiting staff as we left. We'll see you again soon

We visited for an early evening meal and used the early bird menu. The staff and food were excellent and couldn’t find a single fault.

Sunday lunch has been beautiful here but today it was very different. Good point was the staff were lovely but the food wasn't. Asked for crispy bacon for the club sandwich and our server said it was no problem, this was obviously not relayed to the chef. My bacon was very rare and rubbery. I would have thought a sandwich costing £13.50 would be nicer than run of the mill but its was simply thick slices of bread with chicken like you buy in a packet for £1.99, ends of the tomato and one bit of lettuce and an undressed salad. No sauce so was very dry even after we asked for mayo. I reiterate, staff were really nice and I wouldn't bother complaining if this is the case. I simply thought it was very poor value for money. Also there were only another 2 people when we went so maybe that should have been a sign. Are the day chefs different to the Sunday and evening chefs, lets hope so

Perfect setting for our anniversary meal. We shared a starter which was ample for two. Our main courses both beef dishes were excellent. My husband gave his steak pie a 10 !! Great Gluten free options. Craig and all the staff were attentive and very professional… We will definitely be visiting again …

Visited for Easter Sunday lunch. Asked for space for a pushchair and got a nice spacious table near the window. Requested a vegetarian lunch which wasn’t on the menu but the pub was so accommodating and even did us some veggie sausages. The food was good quality and very tasty. Parsnips and carrots were lovely. It was great that they allowed us to order some peas on the side too. Service was also good, food came promptly but not too much so. One of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had.

A wonderful experience from the moment we entered & was shown to our table. The staff were very attentive but not hovering. They appeared to be very happy in their work & making their customers relaxed & enjoy their time. The meal was faultless, taste & presentation was brilliant. We visited on mothering Sunday, my husband, daughter & myself, a lovely gift from our daughter. Fingers crossed the high standard of, The Vane Arms, continues. We will definitely visit again. I felt I had to write this review to offset the more negative reviews previously submitted - not that I wish to undermine previous reviewers perspective. I can only offer an honest review of my experience. We have visited twice in the last month - coming back for a 2nd visit kind of speaks for itself. The first occasion was a lunchtime visit on valentine day. Despite being very busy we had great service ( apart from one small mix up with desert - but hey anyone can make a mistake). The food was really good though slightly on the pricey side for a lunchtime menu. The 2nd visit was during restaurant week ( a coincidence) for my daughter’s birthday. Great service, great food enjoyed by all 4 diners. The staff were attentive, warm and very welcoming. I would highly recommend. Why 4* and not 5* - mainly because I wasn’t overwhelmed on the first occasion with the regular pricing.

Have visited before but on this visit the restaurant was struggling to cope with the amount of people for Restaurant Week. We waited far too long for our meals and then were overcharged. Nice waiters/ waitresses

Arrived to a very full pub and was shown to the back room that was freezing. Most diners kept their scarf or coat on. Picked 2 starters each time they had sold out. Picked another from a different menu that was very good. Asked for water to accompany the food which didn’t arrive until the mains . My partner ordered a parmo which needed a chisel to cut it. He left the dish . Deserts were good . But we were then overcharged by £10 . The place was run by young people trying their hardest but they need support and someone to steer this ship . I wouldn’t go back .

Visited at lunchtime during the pub’s extended “restaurant week” to take our Mam for an early Mother’s Day treat. Had booked a table in the conservatory as we had a dog. Despite there being a table of two seated there already it felt like our table of 3 was forgotten about with exceedingly slow orders for drinks and then food The pub was reasonably quiet with only 3 tables in the main pub area however a dirty table with used glasses was left directly next to us for our entire stay and catering supplies were on display in the hallway next to us The food was mediocre with only the chips (accompanying a flaccid, tasteless fish) being worthy of a positive mention. Coleslaw was missing from one main dish which was pointed out On checking we were advised the cabbage “had only just arrived”. An unexpected portion of coleslaw then arrived 5 minutes later. We waited for the table to be cleared & for coffee/dessert orders to be taken for almost 15 minutes but gave up and paid at the bar. The friendly staff in this pretty village eatery need to improve their knowledge of their kitchen’s offer, their customer service and maintain a clean, welcoming environment

A cosy little pub / restaurant with superb food. The decor and ambience added to the experience. Also great value for such quality food and just the right portion size too. Couldn’t recommned enough.

Not great, had to send the burger back as it was cold. Sticky toffee, very little sauce and the cheesecake was unpleasant, left most of it.

Very good quality, fish and chips excellent and a good size, steak and kidney pudding lovely but would habmve liked the pudding to be a little bigger.

3 steaks and braised beef cheeks. Utterly inedible. Not inexpensive. If I had to guess the steaks were boiled and finished off on a grill. The beef cheeks were not from any part of the animal kingdom that I recognised. The sole redeeming feature was the waitress who was lovely.

Terrible food, menu stated slow cooked beef, it was like rubber, gristly, fatty with very little meat. Vegetables were cold, Yorkshire pudding chewy, roast potato cold and hard, very small portion and even if the food was eatable very overpriced, not even worthy of 1...

The food was very poor indeed. The steak pie was, small, soggy and whatever the vegetables were cooked in was awful. The Parmo was soggy on the bottom, hot shot topping, was not remotely spicy, it was small and thin, with no bechamel sauce. £17.95...

Not sure what this place is! the food does take a while to come sat outside on a decked area had a random football goal not sure it fits with the theme but that's my opinion! i had a king prawn starter with chorizo was nice, for main i had a sirloin and this is what let the place down the most order rare and i couldn't tell how it was cooked to be honest as it was so think and lacked seasoning all the sides that came with it are very nice and the Diane sauce was perfect! dessert sticky toffee was beautiful !would go back tho shame about the steak!

Unfortunately not up to standard on this occasion the "Parmo" lacked seasoning, a very bland cheese used and was very medoca for the establishment and recommended reviews for food.However, I couldn't fault the staff, their concerns over us not having a satisfactory meal. Perfect customer service to deal with the situation.

heard good reports about the vane arms so phoned saturday to book a table for sunday,all done politely over the phone,arrived 15 mins early today and promptly seated ,drinks order taken quickly then food order,wife ordered the beef and i ordered the pork,not to long a wait and food was outstanding(asked for a bit more gravy which wasnt aproblem)pork was so tender and the beef looked nice,both agreed that meal was so nice,sure to return in the future,

I booked a table for lunch for my husband and I on recommendation from friends and when we arrived we were both very impressed with the lovely decor, the staff we had contact with were very pleasant and professional and we were looking forward to a nice meal.I ordered the fish and chips and my husband ordered the chicken parmesan cooked well done.When the food arrived I immediately saw a pool of cooking oil on the side of my plate, the fish had been placed on top of the chips and what had obviously happened was when the waiter had picked up the plates the excess oil had pooled in transit. Being hungry I thought just go with it and I dabbed it up with my serviette but on moving the fish from the chips I saw the whole meal was saturated in cooking oil, I even used the 2 extra serviettes from the table placing sections of the fish on them to try and get rid of the excess but after eating a couple of chips from around the outside in the end I just gave up and asked the waiter to take it away and for them to take it off the bill.The waiter was very apologetic and he offered to make my meal again but I wasn't keen on tasting anymore oil and in any case our lunch was ruined so we paid for our drinks and hubby's mediocre meal and left.The rating i gave was purely for our disappointing food, the pub itself is lovely it has a nice atmosphere and very pleasant staff.

This was our second visit to the Vane Arms in the last two weeks and we are once again blown away by the quality of the service and the food each time. The Vane Arms offer a lovely menu with varied options; staff were very friendly and attentive at all times. A special mention to both Bens - manager and assistant manager - who went above and beyond to make us feel so comfortable and welcome. The presentation and quality of all the meals was exceptional and my husband was particularly impressed with the filet steak both times! The staff were so kind to accommodate my dietary requirements and allergies.The ambience is warm, cozy, and comforting with pleasant surroundings and decor - perfect for a relaxing, Autumn evening.We both were extremely satisfied with their assistance with COVID restrictions. As both of us remain nervous to go out regarding COVID, the staff were very cautious with distancing themselves as well as frequent hand sanitising. We saw several hand sanitising stations available and being used.If you are looking for quality food, exceptional service, and a warm atmosphere, please visit The Vane Arms. Lovely atmosphere. The pub is beautifully decorated. Staff attentive and friendly. The food was lovely. Have been a few times and the quality is consistent l. Staple menu always good for favourites but love the specials especially the fish dishes.

We visit this place often because the food is amazing! BUT we visit more often simply because of the staff, they are absolutely fantastic and go above and beyond. Amazing, thankyou Ben and Lilly not forgetting all the other staff

one meal a steak was excellent,honestly one of the best iv'e tasted but the other the home made pie was so stodgy and the gravy so thick and gloopy the combination just made it so sticky to eat, its a shame the flavours were good but i don't know if it was old or sat for ages but it was disappointing. we will try again as other food looked goodAlso when you look online there is no prices on the menu, and its difficult to book (i think you have to ask nicely through facebook, maybe the hidden prices are because the prices are on the high side for what it is ( a pub in the middle of a small village ) or maybe its a case of if you need to know how much things are you can't afford it.....either way its nice , but its a nice pub but not a high end restaurant which is what i suspect they want it to be.

Lucky to have won the latest competition of a Surf & Turf sharing platter with all the trimmings. We were not disappointed, it was delicious. Steak cooked to perfection, scallops and king prawns were very tasty. Staff were friendly and efficient creating a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We will be back again, starting the day with breakfast next time. Well worth a visit .

We held our parents 50th wedding anniversary party in the vane. Couldn't fault the buffet dinner the food was fantastic. Ben, maeve, and all the other staff were excellent nothing was an issue. 10/10.

I visited last night with 3 friends to celebrate a birthday. Table was booked for 7.30pm…. We placed our order no later than 7.45pm but our meals weren’t brought to us until just before 9pm! A table who arrived after us had their starters, mains and paid before we even saw our food. When we asked how long our meals would be, we were told it was because I’d ordered steak…I said I wanted it medium/rare not charcoaled! When we finally got the food it was very nice apart from the burger which was very dry and the bacon was soft and undercooked. Had we been told that there was over an hours wait for food we would have been prepared! Very little choice on menu either. Sorry won’t be visiting again

Booked a birthday meal with 3 friends as had read great reviews but unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. We waited over an hour for our meal. We’d just ordered main courses. The table next to us, who arrived after us, got their starter and main course before us. Excuse they gave was that one of our meals was a steak and kitchen was very busy. Tables in the bar area were only half full?? And does it take over an hour to cook a medium/rare steak???When the food eventually arrived at 9 o’clock it was actually very nice, but unfortunately the wait had spoilt the evening. The young man who served us was very apologetic and agreed not to charge for our drinks (3 soft drinks and a small wine). Won’t be returning anytime soon.

great peaceful afternoon lunch in beer garden my wife & I both had the fish when it came it was bigger than the plate the batter was light & crisp, the fish its self was all white and very tasty. Staff very friendly and helpful. Well worth the visit

We had a family night out to celebrate a birthday and what a great night we all had. From arriving to the end of the night we were made to feel very welcome. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. We couldn’t have asked for more.

Came for a family birthday last weekend, it was very busy but staff were handling things in a very professional manner and keeping on top of things. Social distancing and staff PPE is in place but the great atmosphere makes you forget all about it. The restaurant specialises in seafood which is exquisite but there are other options and a kids menu available. All in all a great night topped with a game of find the lizard to entertain the kids, apparently he moves around each week!

I’ve visited the restaurant on multiple occasions and it’s exceeded my expectations every time. The service was brilliant, the staff are lovely and always willing to help and the food is unbelievable would definitely recommend!!!

Lovely looking pub with lots of outdoor space & a small field at the rear for the children to kick about on.We were out on a bike ride & the pub looked appealing so thought we’d stop off for a drink, it wasn’t very busy but we waited to make sure we could have an outdoor seat, a young male barman was engrossed in conversation with diners so we just seated ourselves. It took quite a while for us to be acknowledged & the drinks order taken but took even longer for them to arrive, when it came to paying that was just another unnecessary delay, she struggled to find the tab then made a couple of errors on the till so changed it then proceeded to come all the way around the bar to give me the bill when it could have been handed over, I gave her the money & she did exactly the same with the change which quite frankly was bizarre! I don’t understand the wait when there were at least 5 staff serving, I’ve heard such good reports too but not sure I could endure the wait if this service applied to food, I have to say the food looked amazing & it started to fill up with diners as we were leaving, around 6.30.

Absolutely cracking Sunday Lunch and dessert at the Vane Arms, food was plentiful and lovely, beef was pink and spot on, really nice wine. Inside is cosy but with plenty of room, really nice atmosphere and certainly would recommend. Can't wait to revisit!

I called into the Vane Arms on 15th April 2021 to reserve a table for 3 people at 18.30 for the 29th April 2021 (2 weeks in advance) and specifically requested a table with a heater as we had experienced a chilly night elsewhere recently. This was no problem to the young man in charge. When we arrived we were allocated a table set for 2 people which they changed to 3 people, however it did not have a heater above the table as requested. There were 3 empty tables 2 of which had heaters, when I queried this we were told that 2 parties of 4 and 6 people had been allocated those tables. My wife and I have been frequenting the Vane Arms for over 40 years and have never had to experience this attitude from the young man in charge. We left the establishment and will advise our friends accordingly of the poor treatment we received.

Spent a lovely afternoon in the garden, the food was excellent, service was very good. The garden is very nice,helped by the sunshine. Would recommend.

Spent another afternoon here, the second visit since reopening after lockdown. A wonderful afternoon with gorgeous food and a lovely atmosphere. The staff provide such an excellent service even at the busiest of times. Will definitely be going more often!.

First time back after lockdown and can honestly say it was a wonderful experience. We visited on the first Saturday after the easing of lockdown and there were apparently a number of new staff on but it didn’t show too much. The food was absolutely spot on - our group had the Goats Cheese Salad, Apple and Celariac Soup for starters and the Halloumi Burger, Seabass and fish and chips for mains. Everyone raved about what we’d had, all of it was really tasty.The service was great, they all worked incredibly hard. Some people were moaning about the service but from what we could see the staff were all working very hard. The manager was apologetic about tiny details that didn’t meet his high standards but I can honestly say we had a great experience. Thanks for a great afternoon!

Visited here last weekend with my other half, it was a lovely quiet place, light music on in the background, realy nice atmosphere, the food was amazing, would visit again if im back in the area.

Oh this place is a little diamond we came around while we was staying within Thorpe thewles village. The place is so welcoming and lovely we had a main course here on Friday lunch time which was amazing can tell it’s all made fresh. Then we loved it that much we went back for breakfast this morning and again lovely could not say a bad word about the place. Me and my partner loved it and will definitely be back highly recommend. Thankyou to all staff.

Visited last minute at tea time , lots of choice on menus and food all very nice . Service is excellent and gorgeous open fires put on - perfect for this time of year.

Recently visited The Vane Arms for our 14th Anniversary. Have to say we couldn't fault it at all. The service was excellet and the surroundings are really relaxing,warm and homely. The food was, we can only describe as fine dining, really well presented and cooked perfectly. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The restaraunt take COVID19 seriously and ensure customers are protected by following the guidance rules. We would recommend the Vane Arms to anyone.

As ever brilliant meal for my husbands birthday, the food was perfect and any extra requests were not a not a problem. The little touch with happy birthday on the dessert was a really nice wow moment. Keep up the good work in these trying times.

Visited here with the family on a Tuesday evening during the Eat Out To Help Out Scheme. The place hasn't been open too long and the decor inside is modern. The starters were really quite expensive so decided to just go for mains. I went for the Duck breast, which i was told served pink and i said this would be fine. We had quite a wait for our meals and when they came I was unfortunately disappointed with just how rare my duck was.. to the point i couldn't even chew it. I informed the waitress and she said she'd sort it right away. To their credit they did rectify the situation and returned with a fresh breast that was cooked a lot better and i enjoyed my dish eventually. Everybody else at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meals too and the steak pie did look incredibly meaty!My duck main was deducted from the bill which was a great gesture from the staff. I would recommend this place for sure.

First time dining here. Pleasant atmosphere, good quality food. We both recommend the steak and ale pie, full of lean, soft meat. We will definitely go there again.

My husband and I took my mam for dinner on Friday night.We all felt really relaxed .... Covid friendly ... with lots of antibacterial hand gel easily accessible ... we were seated Quickly and felt Safe. The starters of black pudding and king prawns were amazing!The mains did not disappoint either , I had a Parmo and my husband and Mam chose the cod with pesto mash ... all our dishes were gorgeous. The food along with great wine made for a perfect night ! We will defo be back.

Amazing family brekkie was had by all. The food was perfection. The surroundings are decorated to a high standard, and the staff are very professional and polite. Can not wait to return for dinner.

Three of us visited for the first time in many years .The pub has a welcoming feel ,light and comfortable and the tables are set out spaciously .The young staff are very friendly .We don’t nowadays have big enough appetites for three courses so we ordered mains .We had one bottle of white wine and a large glass of red .We felt that the wine was somewhat overpriced ,the bottle was £20 for a very ordinary Chilean Sauvignon Blanc .I had the halibut which was served with two langoustine which looked good but had very little substance ,perhaps king prawns would be preferable .My meal was served with a very nice flavoured mash and a fishy sauce .Enjoyable . A chicken Parmesan with skinny chips and a garlic mayo was enjoyed .The third dish was very disappointing.Leg of duck served with a sauce ,wilted spinach and one potato .The dish needed more vegetables .The duck was eatable but not very tender .Disappointing .I had a very nice brownie and ice cream whilst my wife had a special ,chocolate flavoured bread and butter pudding which was heavy and not enjoyable .We made the staff aware that the duck and the bread and butter pudding were poor and to their credit the bill had the prices for those deducted .I would emphasise that this was not our intention ,we wished to comment that those particular dishes were not good .All in all we felt that the food and drink didn’t justify the prices.I realise that this review seems to run counter to other opinions but if we hadn’t had two dishes discounted we would have paid over £100 which we believe could not be justified .

Visited end of July before eat out to help out. Had a lovely 2 course meal varied menu . We had king prawns and sardines to start and then risotto and fish for mains both dishes on each course very nice. We had a few meals here over the years and never been as nice and when the couple had it and the food was spot on with talented chef but it’s nice to see its going back to the that style and not standard our grub. It was very quiet only us and another table so hope business keeps going for them now. Service was excellent

I have never left a review on trip adviser before but I feel like I have to here as my boyfriend and I visited for the first time tonight. The food was absolutely perfect, it’s rare to walk out of a place and both of us could not pick a single fault with all three of our courses. We will certainly be back and will recommended it to all of our friends.

The food here is really good, the home made black pudding starter is phenomenal! Recently renovated to a high standard and the staff are great. A good choice of beers and wines. Highly recommended for any occasion.

This is the first time We have been for breakfast and it was massive and delicious I think it would be lovely to do a small version with only one of everything For the ladies.Ben looked after us and he was brilliant, nothing was to much trouble and such a nice lad.We will definitely go back.

We hadn't been to this pub in a while but a friend advised she had been and the food was lovely.It has recently been refurbished to a high standard and the bar area is very like a wine bar. The staff were friendly and polite and were very up on the Covid restrictions imposed on the hospitality industry.We had a large table just to ourselves with plenty of room between tables elsewhere. There is no set menu we had to choose from a menu of starters and mains, we had the soup to start which came with sourdough bread both delicious. I had the chicken and which came with stuffing and a lovely Yorkshire pudding, veg was served separately. My husband had the beef and he was asked how he would like it saying well done which it was. No room for dessert as too full would definitely go back and it is part of the eat out to help out scheme so will go for tea one night to take a look at that menu.Well worth a visit.

I visited the vane arms this evening along with my husband and daughter, we have visited the vane arms numerous times and I have to say the food is to die for, I had the halibut which was outstanding, my husband had Parmesan and my daughter fish and chips followed by strawberry and cream cheesecake and chocolate brownie, the manager and staff are so friendly and helpful, this is a hidden gem you really must try. ❤️

Celebrated parents anniversary, menu and food was excellent. Craig and his staff couldn't do enough for us. The beer garden at rear is great well spaced out tables to cope with Covid 19 social distancing rules. Craig made a special dessert for our parents free of charge which made their day really special. Would highly recommend this establishment with excellent food and service.

Superb family evening out. Exceeded all our expectations. Staff and service excellent. Lovely buzz about the place. All our dishes were impressive. Attention to detail is obvious. Will be back soon. A great Wednesday night out. Don’t review much- but a thumbs up to everyone involved here.

Ate here today to celebrate my grandparents 67th wedding anniversary, Craig and the rest of the staff were great and even surprised them with a free happy anniversary dessert platter. Food and drinks were great quality and well priced. Would definitely recommend to anyone and will definitely be visiting again.

This is my second visit to the Vane Arms since lockdown measures were eased. On both occasions, Craig and the team have made every effort to keep the place clean and safe without sacrificing the friendly and pleasant atmosphere. The food was delicious and plentiful and has left me teetering on the brink of a food coma. I highly recommend to all!

Was recommended the vane arms for its inclusion of gluten free food on the menu. Being a coeliac it is difficult to get any choice in most restaurants. However the vane arms had several options on the menu. I had a cheese burger meal and returned later that week for a steak meal, the food was that good! Staff very helpful and friendly. Keep up the gluten free choices.

Walking up to the door there was hand wash and the area was clean and tidy. This made me feel more comfortable. When we got inside staff were polite and efficient. The restaurant was spotless. The service was great. There was a specials menu as well as there normal menu. Plenty of choices. The food was amazing. We had a starter and main course. We even booked again to go back .

It was the first time weve all been out for a meal together in 5 months- a fantastic evening with wonderful food.. the Staff were lovely, Ben had prepared a brilliant specials board, and the wine list and draught Beers was perfect.. the whole experience was faultless

As this was our first meal out since March we were somewhat unsure what to expect & were pleasantly surprised to see that any invasiveness of the Covid measures put in place did not actually have any detrimental effect on our experience & did not spoil the lovely surroundings of the dining area. We felt safe as customers & the staff were well protected as they all used face masks whilst customer facing. Both the waiting staff & the bar staff were very polite & attentive with the food being of an exceptional standard. We really enjoyed the evening & look forward to returning again soon

We went with close friends- our 1st post-lockdown evening out together. The pub is welcoming and friendly, something difficult to achieve with the precautions needed at present but they pulled ot off admirably. Smashing hand pulled beer on offer and a good choice of mains and starters + 3 seafood specials. I had a mezze board to start which 3as lovely the lobster of the specials menu which was excellent. The staff were attentive in a relaxed way and as we we were finishing our meal the chef came out to chat and check that we had had a good night. We had and have booked again.
