Just had afternoon tea in the Tea Room. A treat from our son and daughter in law. What can I say. Amazing. The selection of sandwiches and cakes was fabulous and they were all so tasty. The scones were warm and lovely. Staff were very attentive. Loved it.

We very recently had a 30th birthday afternoon tea at the Tower, it was absolutely lovely. The food was fantastic, especially the cakes which were so moist & very tasty. The service the staff gave us was excellent, I lost count of how many teapots of tea we had! Me & my family can highly recommend a visit to the Tower, especially the tea room. Go treat yourselves, you won’t be disappointed.

My mother and I were treated by my son and fiancée to this lovely afternoon tea. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. Dressed in traditional attire We sat by the fire which was lovely. The room was beautifully decorated. The sandwiches cakes etc were truly scrumptious. They found out it was my mother’s birthday and brought a small cake in with a candle and sang happy birthday to her. A lovely touch. The surroundings are of course beautiful at the hall Definitely recommend

Outstanding tearoom, I’d highly recommend! I visit the tearoom on a monthly basis when I work at the Hoghton Tower Farmer’s market undertaking fostering awareness. The staff team Jack, Jess, Robin and Leah are amazing, they always go above and beyond to make me feel welcome! They are professional, friendly, kind, caring, customer focused, personable and always remember my name. The food is absolutely delicious, it’s homemade and very tasty! It’s also very reasonably priced! I’ve not tried the afternoon tea as yet but the sandwiches and cakes are fabulous so I can’t wait to book it soon! The tearoom is set in a beautiful building, it’s cosy, stylish, has lots of character and charm, it’s lovely in winter when the open fire is on. I look forward to visiting the tearoom again soon! Thanks to all the team! Sarah 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

After doing a tour of this historic building we treated ourselves to afternoon cream tea. Delicious 😋! Beautifully presented, plentiful and varied it was a perfect way to finish off the day there. Got to catch up with some of the wonderful staff who had played characters in a recent magical kingdom experience that we had taken our granddaughter to and it was lovely to see them. Already looking forward to our next visit xxx

I went for afternoon tea with 5 other guests. We all had a lovely time. The staff were very polite and friendly. We had a lovely table by a log burning stove which was beautiful. The food was more than enough for us and we ended up taking a lot home in doggie bags. The drinks were regularly topped up. The whole thing was great. Unfortunately the tower itself is not open at the moment to tour but that would have just been the cherry on top of an already lovely day. Thank you for a memorable mother's day.

We paid £19 EACH for a tiny selection of sandwiches, a cake and a scone. The added bits were all things you could buy a big pack of from Poundland. The scone was stale and the sandwiches were mediocre. We were waiting round thinking “is this it?” Until loads of wasps swarmed around our food. All this for £40. Very disappointed. The price doesn’t even include a walk around the gardens, you have to pay extra. Definitely not worth it.

My son and I went fir afternoon tea. Albeit my son is only 3 years old. But he loves afternoon teas. I must admit I was quiet disappointed with what I received for the price of £29.00. My some got two small sandwiches, some pombear crisps, half a sausage roll, and chocolate ice cream. I got four finger sandwiches (2 slices of bread), a few crisps. A scone with jam and cream, a selection of three cakes. I noticed that other people having afternoon tea had fruit or something in a bowl. The lack of sandwiches was disappointing. The surroundings are beauitful, the house and gardens were closed. Within 20 mins we had finished our afternoon tea and were away, to my son asking what was for tea? …….. I think £21.00 for an adult and child for afternoon tea would be a fairer price to pay.

Went with a friend for afternoon. We were greeted in a very friendly way and the service continued to be excellent. Nothing was too much trouble, from refreshing the tea to packing up the food that we couldn’t eat. The choice of food, the quality and quantity exceeded our expectations. The only slight niggle was the disable access - it needs to be improved although I accept that it would be difficult. Will define return.

The rain had started just at the end of our longish walk in the area so we scooted up to the tea rooms at the tower for tea and cakes. There were others who were enjoying the full afternoon tea facility and it all looked very pretty. I visited the Tower and went on the tour many years ago when one of my German friends was stying with us. As I recall it was pretty good and quite interesting.

Attended for lunch before attending Open Theatre production in gardens at Tower. Arrived just after cafe opened - the only customers was the actors (about 9 people) and 1 other couple. After ordering our food it took 35 minutes for hot sandwich to cone. Plus when asked for horseradish on beef sandwich - got none in stock. Poor service which needs improvement.

The place was clean and the staff friendly & attentive. We had the afternoon tea and can honestly say it was delicious and so plentiful we came away with a ‘doggy’ bag! We would probably say that it was one of the nicest afternoon teas we’ve had. It included prawn cocktail, 4 different filled sandwiches, fruited scones with preserve and clotted cream, 3 other types of cake and then jelly or a chocolate mousse; all washed down with copious tea all served in lovely china. Amazing value for money!

Visited here today after a guided tour of Hoghton Tower.Generally the food was good, pea and ham soup, steak sandwich for hubby ,cheese sandwich with a bowl of soup for me.My sandwich was advertised as being served with salad, coleslaw and crisp but this did not happen. It was late in the day so I don't know if they had ran out, but I had some of my hubby's so I did not make a fuss. The bill with tea came to £25 which was good value.

After our tour of the Tower lunch was calling...I had a lovely Northern Rarebit served with a delicious salad. My husband chose a Prawn Sandwich and the Nicoise Salad. Both of which went down well. Followed by a Gluten Free Chocolate Brownie (Homemade) and Coffee & Walnut slice of cake for me! The guy was multi-tasking beyond belief but still provided lovely food and good service.

Thinking of somewhere different to take friends, my wife had talked about the Hoghton tower. Now the 1st thing about this is that there is no tower! We had a guided tour of the building full of fascinating facts & history! We followed this with a cream tea which was enjoyed by all!In fact we returned within two weeks to take more friends to see & enjoy all that is on offer.

I don't want this review to be a slating as that would be unfair. I visited the tearoom with my son on Father's Day. While waiting for the next tour of the tower we decided to grab a bite to eat. The tearooms are in a nice setting and are part of the main house. When we arrived there appeared to be three (maybe four) young ladies looking after things, taking orders, waiting on tables etc. Many of the tables were littered with plates and debris which hadn't been tidied up from previous customers. My son and myself found a table and then went to order food. We only ordered sandwiches and a drink (best part of £17.00) then gave the young lady our table number. After waiting quite a while the sandwiches arrived, not before being hawked all around the tearoom first. The lady eventually put the sandwiches on our table and promptly left, leaving all the of the previous people's plates and cutlery and dirty serviettes behind. We waited for a while, nothing. After a trip to the counter we asked that the table be cleared, which it eventually was. We also asked if we could have our drinks, they finally turned up after a second request, after we had finished our sandwiches. No cutlery was given to us, no serviettes, nothing. We ended up eating everything with our fingers & with nothing to wipe them on. The food itself was ok but then again, they were sandwiches. I don't think the young ladies were to blame entirely, it was almost like they had been dumped into a situation, busy and understaffed. However, what I find hard to comprehend, why would you serve food to someone, with dirty plates all over the table and just leave them until asked to move them? Why, after giving your table number when ordering food, should the waitress not have a clue who's the food for?Why would you not provide any cutlery? Why should you have to ask for drinks two or three times? While we were there we noticed quite a few disgruntled diners, one couple waited for a good while and just got a refund after getting tired of waiting. It's a shame really, such a nice place with loads of potential. In my opinion, for what it's worth, the place need a focal person to organise / manage, or maybe it was just a bad day.....

I already wrote a review of this cafe under Hoghton Tower's entry but found the restaurant entry afterwards so here it is again. The cafe is pleasant and the staff are very nice, friendly and welcoming. I was not tempted by the possibilities for lunch as the options were very limited I thought. If you want a light snack or a cake then you might find this is a good place to visit but it didn't look like hot meals were their central aim with hot soup and either quiche or veggie lasagna otherwise. There were three or four sandwich options too. The drinks were reasonably priced and the food items about the level you might expect in a museum or gallery cafe. Unfortunately for me my drink of preference, diet coke, was unavailable but my boyfriend said the cup of tea was excellent. In summary, it's a nice place but if we were after a meal then we would go elsewhere but if we wanted a nice cuppa and some cake we would return.

After visiting hoghton tower last year at halloween for the ghost walk (which was fantastic) I was happy to hear they were starting to do afternoon teas this spring. I booked in the day before for a cream tea and had to make payment over the phone which was fine by me! For £6.95 a head I couldn't believe how much food we got! Salmon tarts, lemon and carrot cake, scones and chocolate eclairs and endless amounts of tea and coffee in gorgeous vintage tea sets. The waitress was lovely and the chef brought the food to us himself. I can't rate the tearoom enough! Thanks again hoghton tower we'll be back!

With access through the Old corn Mill antiques centre, the Vintage Tea Room is beautifully clean, but has a rather spartan appearance; reminiscent of a works canteen. and lacks refinement in presentation. Our bacon sandwiches were well filled with delicious, well cooked bacon; but the two slices of bread should have been destined for 'doorstep' toast. Although fresh and of a decent texture and taste, the thickness of the bread tended to detract from the filling. Whilst we were asked if we would like any cutlery or sauces, we had to request a paper napkin. Appearances do matter, and it was a little off-putting to see a man, who we presumed be the cook, simply dressed in ordinary outdoor clothes, wandering around outside with tea towel over his shoulder. The staff were friendly and helpful; the menu interesting and quite extensive for a small establishment, and we are sure that other meals would be as well cooked and tasty as was our bacon filling. A little more attention to detail would make a huge difference. Oh yes - and the coffee was good.

Hartwood Hall is 'ok' if you are stuck for somewhere. We stayed on a Sunday evening and by 6pm all the Sunday roast menu was unavailable, along with a number of other side & main dishes. Tables in the pub area had plates and glasses left on them for well over an hour and it was not busy. No issues with the food we ordered, and it arrived quickly. The room was boiling hot even though the radiator was off, bed rock hard and uncomfy, shower woeful dribble but all fairly clean. TV remote very dirty/dusty between the buttons so needed a wet-wipe. Breakfast was ok, apart from drinks glasses being dirty and stuck face down to a small wooded tray; plus the cleaner was hoovering throughout the pub as the hotel guests ate breakfast. Should be done before or after breakfast. Pub staff are all friendly and helpful.
