Lovely lunch along with a warm welcome. Our table waiter was very friendly and super efficient. Food was good and service was prompt. Friendly, warm atmosphere and beautifully situated. Had a great experience, will be back.

Today myself and some friends stopped off at the malt house for some lunch mid through our canal walk. We asked if they had space indoors to accommodate us and fair enough they didn't ad we did have 4 prams also. However, we then sat outside to be told the space across from the entrance didn't allow food, we then were moved round the opposite side of the pub. We sat down, to then be told they didn't take table service and we would have to then leave our belongings and walk back to the side we came from to place our food and drinks order. When we did this we were greeted with " are you not freezing, I'd much preffered to go home and eat that sit outside" another of the girls I we're with heard one of the staff suggesting to open the side door for us, to then be told no they can walk around. Not that I mind walking but we had 4 small babies with us! Our food came out ( through the side door that wasn't open to us but to everyone else it appeared) we asked for some sauces. However, these failed to arrive back at the table. Overall the customer service we received were poor, considering we we're 4 paying customers, we were made to feel very unwelcomed. This is not a family friendly pub it appears. 😒

Definitely better than our local C&B! Very pleasant location .. Nice to be sat outside in a welcoming, well maintained and comfortable building. Food arrived swiftly and was well presented. Nice pint of IPA then glasses of water with loads of ice cubes. Staff cheerful and attentive. This place is well worth another visit!

Very disappointed at the Malthouse on Sunday evening. Previous reviews have highlighted the limited menu on Sunday; we too experienced a much narrower selection due to items having run out. Our waitress was polite but obviously inexperienced leading to our order not making its way to the kitchen. When it eventually arrived, a side order was missing…..& had obviously still been forgotten. The burger was adequate; the roast beef tough. A manager did come to apologise and knocked a round of drinks off the bill as recompense. This was appreciated. Unfortunately our celebration meal was by that point nothing to celebrate. A shame really as it’s a lovely pub in a lovely setting. We left very disappointed.

A beautiful pub/restaurant to sit and relax and enjoy lunch or dinner especially when the weather is warm as there is lots of seating areas outside but over the last couple of years I feel stressed by all the silly rules that must be obeyed surely a pub should be a nice environment to enjoy and not have all these boards and notice dotted around in your face so it does put you off a bit too much 😒

We went here for an early evening meal Friday 5th April…4 adults 2 children. The pub was busy but didn’t feel overcrowded and had a nice warm cozy feel. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal, I had the sirloin steak which was cooked and seasoned just right and had lovely charring on it. I was a little disappointed with dessert I wanted the Bakewell tart but was told there were none left so I opted for the mini pudding and coffee and they didn’t lie when they said mini (it was a tiny piece of cake). Drinks are at a price you would expect to pay and there was a decent variety of beers on sale. Overall not the cheapest of places BUT the food was lovely, it’s a nice setting and all staff were friendly so I’d definitely recommend this place and we will visit again.

I enjoy coming to the Malthouse. Always guaranteed a cosy atmosphere, good food and good service. This time we sat in the area near the bar where you can have dogs. If you pre book just put a note on you have a dog when doing online (only downside to trying to book is there seems to be an automated phone system now and I couldn't get through to a human to check that I did manage to get a table in the dog area.....anyway it was all fine!!). The specials menu was delightful and I've posted a couple of photos from it including the lamb and a trio of puddings. The waiter who served us was good too! Lots of water bowls and treats for the dogs and bar games available.

Incredible venue, we were greeted by a lovely warm host with a friendly smile. The service was amazing throughout. Drinks and food were spot on! Came here for a family birthday, walked in and was taken straight to our table. Service was amazing all the staff was friendly and very attentive. The food was absolutely incredible had steak and was cooked perfectly. I will 100% be back.

This is my wife's and I third visit to the Malthouse Farm near Chorley from Somerset a 600 mile round trip and we cannot fault it, the Staff Sharon,Debs etc, the food ( the steak and ale is the best I have ever tasted) and the atmosphere are second to none, you will not find BETTER ANYWHERE. If you are coming to Lancashire or just passing through then come and experience this hidden gem for yourself as you will not be disappointed. Tony and Gilly Tomlinson

We are regular visitors to the Malthouse and the food and service are always fine so I was slightly concerned when I saw some of the recent poor reviews. I shouldn't have been though as the new Sunday lunch was great the roast sirloin was tasty and tender and rolled pork belly was outstanding. The staff were great providing excellent service.

Awful! Sunday Menu is small to begin with but then with numerous things not available by early evening. At least 4 dishes unavailable with an already limited menu. 1st Round of drinks took nearly 10 minutes to arrive and it wasn't even that busy and...

Very disappointed. We took a last minute decision to go out for lunch as it was a lovely day so decided here so we could sit outside. I called first to check that the outdoor area was open. The phone was answered by "Clare" who happens to be an AI voice. "Clare" informed me that there was outdoor seating but specific tables could not be guaranteed. When "Clare" asked me if "she" could help me any further (stupid me for getting into a conversation with it) I replied "No thank you, that is all"...."I'm sorry but I did not understand your response" came back at me so I hung up. Maybe the lack of customer interaction at this stage should have warned us off. On arrival we were greeted at the check in desk but were informed the outdoor area was not in service. Fortunately there was a choice of 2 tables indoors. It took sometime for the waitress (Vicky who was very pleasant) to come and take our drinks order. We already knew what food we wanted by the time she did so we asked to order it only to be informed that she had 2 tables ahead of us waiting to order food and was only taking drink orders from us at that time. (Not her fault I'm sure this is the way the management have told the waiting staff to serve customers). After another quite long wait (we had been contemplating whether to leave) Vicky finally got round to taking our order. If this wait was due to other customers taking their time with their choices then surely there's no harm in taking our order?? We had been chatting together whilst waiting and had concluded that there was a distinct lack of staff. The waiting staff were rushed off their feet but still had smiles on their faces. We fancied sharing a starter but decided to order this to come with the main courses as we did not want to have another long wait between courses. The starter was crispy squid which was lovely and is the reason the food was scored at least 1 star as the rest did not warrant any score at all. Had we not been as hungry we would have sent the food back. I opted for the chicken duo. The chicken breast was so dry. Thankfully there was sufficient BBQ sauce to help this go down. The crispy chicken.....not what I expected. It was basically overfried chicken to the point of being tough with a crispy coating. I couldn't eat it but my husband managed to chew his way through it. My husband went for a mixed grill. He asked for his steak to be medium rare. When it came, the steak was so thin and dry, clearly not medium rare. The sausage was not the best quality and the egg didn't even have a soft yolk! His chicken was also very dry and he was thankful for the gravy that came with his meal. Thankfully the chips were edible and the extra portion (not a great quantity) we ordered was gratefully consumed! We had almost finished by the time Vicky was able to get to us to ask if everything was to our satisfaction. Usually we do the very British thing and say "fine thanks" and complain later but we told her what we thought. She was apologetic and said she would pass on our comments. Now normally I would expect management at this point to come over but we then found out there was a family bereavement of the manager and a wake was due to be held in the venue later that day. Obviously we were not going to demand to speak to management on learning this and do send our sincere condolences. Given the above. On reflection, the wait we can tolerate given the lack of staff. The wait we can tolerate if the food is worth waiting for. Sadly for the latter it wasn't and it is for this reason I am sad to leave a dismal review. It will certainly be a very long time before we frequent here again.

Great pub. Lovely staff. Tasty food. All three of us really enjoyed our meals, next to a real live fire. I especially enjoyed the Garden Patch Medley and Leek, Asparagus and Cheddar pie (proper good grub). Imagine eating and drinking outside by the canal in the summer is grand.

Attended recently, to be acquainted by the booker at door, we had asked if they had any room for just drinks and she stated no as bar area was full, and then asked us if we would be eating ( all tables empty in back room, outside area empty) she stated they was booked up for atleast an hour and half, until a table was ready. But then, we looked on website to see and also rang the automated booking line, it was actually around 2 and half hours until a table was ready, so we had been lied too. Please avoid, on a Saturday. Customer service wasn't recommended.

Nice place with a nice meal and friendly staff

Nice homely place with open fires to keep you cozy, lots of outdoor seating too for when the weather warms up. The food was nice, we saw the Sunday roasts too, although we didn't get them they looked great. So maybe one for another time.

Appalling food staff friendly won’t eat there again

Lunchtime visit and I chose a chicken ciabatta and chips. Very pleasant and friendly staff but was served a cold ciabatta that must have been made yesterday with about seven chips and a tiny bit of salad. A bit poor for nearly £9.00 It also appears we had arrived in the middle of a dog barking competition as the noise was deafening and continuous. (What makes anyone think it is ok to bring a large barking boxer type dog and a small yapping thing into a restaurant where people are trying to talk and listen ? It was hopeless to attempt conversation. Please all responsible dog owners. If your dog is barking in a restaurant. Take the damned thing outside !! It is totally unacceptable for other people (who just might not be as potty about dogs as you are) to listen to that racket when they’re trying to enjoy a meal.

Surprisingly good food for a brewery-owned pub. Charming service; we were 'travelling through' and the staff found us a table for lunch even though they were heavily booked for Mothers' Day. Might well return if staying at the 'Premier Inn' beside this pub. No complaints.

Had a lovely meal with family yesterday. I ordered the Korean chicken strips to start followed by the steak and ale pie. Both were delicious. The staff were extremely attentive even though the place was packed nothing was too much trouble. Definitely worth a visit.

We have been going to this restaurant for years and have always raved about how great it is.However,today we were disappointed. The service,although friendly,was very slow and not attentive enough. We waited an age for the waiter/waitress to come over each time, never got asked if we wanted more drinks, other waitress stood staring in the opposite direction because we weren’t sat in her area,nobody to say Bye/Thanks as we left.The Maitre De never once walked into our side of the restaurant to check on her staff.Quite a few items unavailable on the menu. Loved this place. We went just before Christmas for a rare night out. I won't lie, I'd heard mixed things about the service but as I like to find things out for myself I put all of that to one side. When we arrived we where quickly seated despite being qp minutes early, the Waitress was polite and friendly as we sat down and took out drinks orders. I wasn't drinking (driving) but my wife asked for an Ale. The Waitress couldn't answer a question but went away for the answer and came back in quick time. We ordered food, we asked for a Starter and a Main. Unfortunately the main my Wife ordered wasn't available in the night (Sea Bass) but we found that out before the Started arrived and was dealt with politely and in short order. Disappointing but we could see they where busy and it was close to Christmas. The stated arrived in good time and was excellent quality, it was the Chefs shared platter and there was more than enough food for two to the point where I wondered if it was a little too much. For my Main I had the Signature Burger. I don't eat a lot of Burgers outside of Barbecue season so it was a bit of treat. It was delicious. It comes with a Roast Beef sauce which worked wonders for the meal, and an idea I'm no doubt goint to steal myself at some point! My Wife had the Beer Battered Fish with Chips, she enjoyed it and while I can't speak to the quality it certainly looked the part. While I was full at the end of my main course I'd spied about table taking delivery of a Cheesecake dessert and I couldn't help but find myself ordering one. While waiting I nipped outside for a Vape and found a large and pleasant heated area to indulge my vice. On returning the cheesecake followed me to the table. I was not disappointed at all. Delicious and set a new bar for Cheesecake in my head. All in all it was a delightful night and we found ourselves planning a return before the end of the night. Very impressed with it all and we look forward to our next visit because of it. An excellent night with no problems at all. Friendly smiley service at no doubt one of their busiest times as well. Congratulations to the whole team for that one.

Lovely food and nice Christmas feel. Shame the Christmas menu wasn't on for some reason. The young red haired waitress in charge of the section was really professional and gave us excellent service. Smiley, happy and polite, she deserves recognition for that. Sadly, when a number of tables were due to get their bills at the end, a miserable bloke took over. He was hovering around customers with bills to take their payments. Clearly took over the payment phase so he could grab the tips. He slammed plates and drinks down without a word, He didn't once ask if everything was okay, no smiles, just a guy who should be on pot wash out of the way of customers. When people are spending £40 a head on a meal they don't want some miserable git ruining the atmosphere. Shame really because overall it was really nice.

Went with my husband and two children. We had the roast dinner and it was awful. The potatoes were hard and cold and the vegetables were cold and undercooked. Really disappointed and won't be going back.
