Well this is our second visit in 2 weeks. The food, atmosphere and service was 10 out of 10. Our waiter Ahmet was absolutely fantastic. Our drinks arrived quickly and our food was delicious. Such a lovely chilled evening starting with the wonderful Sharon sorting our table for us and then Ahmet looking after us during our visit. I would give 10 starts if I could.

Dog friendly, my partner had gammon which she enjoyed, I had pie with gravy in a pot however the gravy was lumpy and too much pastry. There was dried food drips on the salt and pepper pot and on the pot the cutlery came in. The apple tart and custard was the best we have ever tasted, worth a visit but they have to check crockery more often for food splashes/drips.

Unhelpful host. When the couple in front get offered the option of a table inside or outside, promptly sat, then on his return says "sorry I can't" when we asked for a table for 2, (something very mysterious must have happened to the other table option offered to the previous couple) No offer of taking a seat outside to have a drink until a table becomes available or anything other than sorry I can't. I know it was busy, I was fully aware of that, but he was the most inhospitable host I've ever had the displeasure to speak to and we left like a couple of outcasts. Bit rubbish really.

Pub next to canal at bottom of a flight of locks. From towpath, cross canal at next bridge up and follow path through trees then down road to car park entrance. If you get the weather can sit out and look over canal. Locks can be busy but quiet when I was there. Spacious inside, gets busy especially when weather good. Open for breakfast as next to premier Inn or similar accommodation, so earlier than other places around the area, useful for walkers and boaters. Food reasonable.

A very disappointing experience. We ordered 4 meals, 1 was brought incorrect so had to wait ages for the correct meal to arrive. It was lunchtime so we ordered off the lunch section, a steak sandwich - the steak was very tough. A chicken sandwich - the chicken was dry and cheese toastie - struggled to find cheese on half of the sandwich. We asked for a jug of water and the waitress proceeded to knock over a glass that was half full with lager shandy, disappeared and went serving another table, leaving us to mop up her mess. No discount applied to the bill…. Will not be returning.

Starters ok, 2 Sirloins were served luke warm, garlic butter wouldn't melt. 1 Sirloin full of fat and gristle a steak knife couldn't cut through. Complained and starters were deducted from bill, still had to pay £54 for 2 Sirloins and tea. 1st ever visit and won't be returning

I had my birthday lunch at the Malthouse and was greeted warmly when we arrived and brought to our table for two which had a happy birthday sash across the table and a birthday card from Sharon and the team, such a lovely touch. Debs who served our table was amazing, hospitality written right through her, brilliant service and not just for us, as I watched her smile, greet, and look after everyone there. Well what can I say, this has to be one of the best Sunday dinners I've had for a very long time, it was that good we went back the Sunday after!! Staff were amazing, it is a beautiful location, so this weekend we are going to try out the Saturday menu and I know we won't be disappointed. The only small disappointment was on the Sunday lunch menu online that I downloaded for the family to mull over it states it comes with swede mash, a favorite of my daughter, but when we received the menu on the day this item had been removed and that was a bit disappointing for a few of the family. The bread and chive butter as a complimentary taste bud teasers was a very nice touch. Well done to a quality restaurant 👏👌

Whats happened to the classic roast at the Malthouse Chorley? From the popular Trio of Roasts to a Duo of roast which is quite frankly awful! The roast rump of beef was wonderful but served with a yorkshire pudding you could have placed on your feet and competed the London Marathon with! Hard carrots no longer honey glazed and soft, awful roast potatoes and tasteless cabbage! To add insult to injury your given a slice of baguette with a cheap margarine with over the top rosemary pieces in as a tactic to fill you up prior to the arrival of your small portioned roast dinner for £18.25!! We love the staff, they keep the customers returning, and the location and canal view are sublime! Dont lose your customers by squeezing for that last penny of profit, it simply wont work!! We look forward to the return of that Roast dinner we all used to fondly talk about.

Was staying in the Premier Inn just for an overnight travel break. A 30 second walk from the Prem and I was in this lovely warm and inviting pub. Was busy but was shown to a table by friendly staff. I was then looked after by Issy. I told her about my allergy from the onset and she got me the NGC menu and was pleasantly surprised to see a "proper" menu and not a load of sheets of A4 paper stapled together. Well all I can say is all the food ( I had 3 courses) was absolutely fantastic and I would like to extend my compliments to the cooks. The service I received whilst in the pub was second to none and was really made to feel welcome. I can't thank Issy enough for her professionalism.

An excellent lunch today at the Malthouse Farm Pub. Recently we have disappointed when eating out at various pubs as food appears to be produced to suit the outlet rather than the customer and service often leaves something to be desired. Today we may only have been ordering burgers and fishcakes but these were really tasty and fresh and service from our server Debs was excellent. Debs was very friendly and efficient with the pace of service just right for us to enjoy a leisurely lunch without being rushed or having to wait for attention at any time. Well worth a visit.

Went tonight and my starter (barbecue chicken strips) was cold and didn’t taste fresh along with my mum’s starter of garlic mushrooms. My mum and auntie’s gravy on the mains were cold and they asked for it to be heated and when it came back it was still cold. Also the pastry on the steak and ale pie was hard. The waitress asked when she took our plates if everything was okay and we told her but nothing was said in response or an apology was given…she didn’t seem to know what to say We spent £106 and the quality didn’t quite match this..if you’re charging £15.50 for a steak and ale pie meal and £14.25 for sausage and mash..you would expect the quality to be up there to reflect the price otherwise it’s cheaper to make or at home!!

Valentines meal out. Lovely meal, really nice service. Very nice surroundings. Soup of the day - butternut squash - well made and well presented. Mixed grill - perfectly cooked, not at all fatty and good sized portion with good quality ingredients. Garlic bread - good sized portion. Garlic mushrooms - again good choice. Dessert was a let down - spiced trifle - bit of cake with some cream and a sliced strawberry. - disappointing for the money. Saw a few other dishes being served - great looking dish and chips and also pie meal (great sized pie). We will be back but would avoid the spiced trifle.

After a successful first visit a few weeks ago we returned for lunch. This review is based on both visits. Food quality is good, service was great on visit one, not quite as good on visit 2. Specifically ordered skin on fries. When the meal arrived they were clearly not (See pic). I asked the waitress about it and she advised that they were skin on fries, but just not much skin on them lol. She should have just apologised that they didn't have any instead of insulting my intelligence. No biggy, and would visit again, but points dropped for the lie.

Just finished 2 course Christmas Sunday evening meal at Malthouse. Not the best for the price and nowhere near upto scratch. Based on many previous visits would have expected a lot higher standard, especially given extortionate prices. Lower rated reviews are unfortunately accurate, i'm disappointed to say. It was very pretty and cosy but extremely quiet...not a good sign so close to Christmas! Fairy lights and decor were not enough to compensate the poor basics! Focus on food/service before the lighting! Way too dear and lack of attention to detail. (Expected to pay more as Christmas but not to that extent, surplus extra's such as pigs in blankets should be included on Xmas dinner). Food quality was nice and young waitress lovely but she had to apologise way too many times for the mistakes of the chef/bar. My friend had small broken glass shards in his drink (not a broken glass so god knows where it came from; garnish maybe...as replacement was missing the greenery). He crunched and swallowed thinking it was maybe ice at 1st, then realised not. Pulled bits out which cut his nose when he scratched it! We then had to ask for that to be refunded on bill...wasnt done automatically. We were very pleasant and understanding with waitress as not her fault, but we should not have even been expected to pay for that. No 'out of stocks' given until after we ordered so i had to choose diff starter which was fine but always good to know in advance. That was then a £2 surplus. I had a basic turkey dinner but had to ask halfway for stuffing as it never came on the plate. Cauli cheese was basically just cauli which again was £3 surplus and very disappointing. As mentioned 'pigs' were extra. Friend then had to chase up his 2nd drink. Based on all this, it was way overpriced, probably hence why it was dead at peak time. I'd give it 2.5stars tops for food taste/quality, waitress pleasantness/apologies and decor but thats being kind! Wanted to push to 3 stars but genuinely couldn't justify it. £75 for a wine, 2 soft drinks, 2starters, 2mains & 2 sides each plus all the errors/complaints. Not sure if theres been a change of management but seriously step it up malthouse, read and take into consideration the reviews as you're losing regulars! Won't be rushing back. Might consider trying again next Summer for the beer garden.

At about 5pm on 23rd November, I went to the Malthouse Farm Pub for a pint and a meal. The place wasn't especially busy and having obtained my pint, I went to sit at a table, because nobody was manning the house desk and there was no sign saying, "Please wait here to be seated". I was intercepted by one of the staff and shown to a table. He could have chosen several others and none were reserved. So I sat down, only to be asked to move two minutes later. My fish and chips arrived and were nicely cooked. Perhaps the 5ml portion of tartare sauce could have been more generous? The beer was indifferent and over priced at £5.10 a pint. It was the kind which is okay cold but not okay when it warms up. May I make two suggestions to the management....? Firstly, are you a pub or are you a restaurant? Given the beers you certainly not brewers as implied by the name of your chain. These days, most places are both, but if you want to control where people sit, why not use the little sign I mentioned earlier? It left the staff in a state of constant confusion, which leads to my second suggestion. If you wish to offend a customer, one particularly good way is to ask them to move, having just shown them a table, especially when you had plenty of options. I'm sure this establishment has many redeeming features noted by other customers but it is being let down by indecisive, dithering management. Thanks but I won't be back.

I feel I should leave a 4/5 review because I've eaten here loads and always liked the food and staff but I need to leave a negative aspect - why on earth would you stop Sunday roast?! What sort of pub doesn't do normal roast beef or roast turkey (like you used to do). We used to come every Sunday for a roast and now we don't because you don't offer one. I know you do roast chicken but it doesn't really come with sides you'd associate with a roast. It was also extremely dry. And "duo of roast" but it's with pork belly (since when was pork belly a roast sort of thing). We went to another of the same chain near Ormskirk who had the same roasts as always (the menus used to be identical) so we are a bit confused why Malthouse would choose to remove what you'd think would be the most popular dish of the week. I'm hoping they return in December so we can enjoy them for a couple of Sundays before they remove them again. Surely we can't be the only people disappointed you've removed roasts?! But other than this aspect we can't fault you so I didn't really want to rate you badly. We will if you don't bring roasts back ;) lol only joking

My husband and I both decided on the fish and chips, the fish was greasy and tasteless and the chips were non descript, some were cooked and some were hard not upto the usual standard at all. It was ages before someone came to ask how things were and we waited ages for the dishes to be cleared and asked if we wanted a dessert. Normally the meals are sufficient and no dessert is required but on this occasion we both decided to have the bakewell tart with raspberry coulis. The tart was blackcurrant and there was no raspberry in site. It was dry and over cooked. Again not upto the usual standard. When we asked for the bill, the guy said he'd bring it over. Fifteen minutes later it still hadn't arrived so we ended up having to go to the till to pay because otherwise we would have been late for the cinema. When I booked we had plenty time to eat with time to spare but after the service being so slow, everything was rushed and we ended up missing the beginning. Such a shame as I'll not be recommending this place to anyone..

Visited here for the 1st time after hearing good reports. Unfortunately our experience did not reflect this. The service was poor and the chips that came with my food were only warm when given to us so had to be eaten quickly. Don't think we will be back again ☹️

I was a bit disappointed with the meal. Soup did not have enough flavour, and there was more gravy than meat in the pie. It had a nice flavour to it, although the pastry was really hard at the bottom.

Externally beautiful building, adjoining Premier Inn complex, and canalside. Nice outdoor seating areas, perfect for sunny days. Internally pleasant, but some table tops need re-varnishing. Friendly, efficient team. Good menu choices, food nicely presented.

Fantastic lunch and service by Debra. Food was beautiful, couldn't fault it. Canal side looks gorgeous and am looking forward to sitting in sun. Highly recommend.

I went to collect an order, and some ego-fueled bloke (assumed owner) was holding a video call on the counter. He asked his staff and me to be quiet whilst sorting my order out! They really didn't give a good impression, and complaining on some team's calls about the state of the fish and chip industry whilst disrespecting paying customers isn't going to help him! Won't be going back, even though the chips were actually cooked this time!

Absolutely spot on — one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had in ages. The beef was tender and full of flavor, the roasties were perfectly crispy, and the Yorkshire pudding was massive and fluffy. Rich gravy tied it all together beautifully. Pure comfort food done right.Absolutely amazing service, thank you
