Small menu choice, but it doesn't need to be bigger. The food and service is fantastic. Recommend to everyone (including the dog). 😁

Always a lovely joyful visit to the barn after the walk along the lake thru the woods down to the castle ruins I know it's fake but the grandkids don't and that makes it special.

Always eat here after a great dog walk. Gets very busy but the food is very fresh and tasty. Service is always decent especially considering how busy they are.

Came in here for a quick bite after walking the rivington pike winter hill loop. I had a ham and cheese toastie and a cup of tea which came to £12.30. The food was nice and went down well after a long hike

Visited yesterday on first sunny day in ages. After long, long walk up and around the Pike we were very ready for what the cafe had to offer. Despite being really busy, staff were lovely and polite, service was surprisingly quick and efficient. As for the food - delicious!! Excellent value for money as well as being top quality. Thank you for a lovely experience to finish off a lovely walk 😊

The barn has been extended significantly outside with weather canopies to keep the rain off. Lovely food, lovely atmosphere and decent parking although it does get VERY busy at weekends and holidays.

This is a friendly place. I've been visiting here for over 20 years. If you love walking, then this is the place for you. Once you've built up an appetite, you can enjoy a good tuck in at the Barn for a fair price, but you'll need to order hot food before 3 pm during the Autumn and Winter month. After 3 pm, only cakes and cold foods are available because the barn closes by 4 pm. time, I seem to remember it's 5pm closing time. There's a good amount of free parking ,but it can get really busy during the summer months and school holidays. keep in mind that the outdoor toilet facilities are not great, and if you are bad on your feet like my mother who has to use a walking aid, you might struggle! The walkway to the toilets are made up of cobbles and are very uneven. You can bring your dog along inside the Barn; dog walkers are made very welcome. Despite the toilet facilities I do still recommend a visit to this very friendly place.

We visited today as a family of 8 for lunch and drinks. I had the steak baguette with egg, which I can only describe as very overpriced and disappointing. The sandwich was around £15 and the size of a half sub. I was expecting steak for £15 but to my disappointment, it was little thin strips of tasteless meat. No chips or side salad just a few crisps. It was also barley warm and came out of the kitchen within 2 minutes of the order being placed. I wasn’t asked by a member of staff, if the food was okay, at any point. We visit here often, mainly for a hot drink after a chilly walk but I’ll be avoiding the food in future!

Excellent service from excellent staff, probably the fastest and most efficient I have experienced. Would highly recommend.

I'm happy to say that the very condensed menu has improved to a much better offering. We drop our visits due to the menu, we can resume our regular frequency, coinciding with our walks through forest and beside the lake.

Visited the lower barn today. Staff are lovely. Dogs whimpering and barking. Shame could be a pleasant atmosphere. Wont be back even though I live locally. Far to much emphasis on dogs.

A little busy but ok, nice staff

Am a semi regular at this Cafe. Called in last week and ordered an eggs benedict. at £9.00 Eggs were good but the muffin was hard one and not soft. The problem was that they were very sparing with the Hollandaise sauce. It was just a mere drizzle and not a dollop. Its That sauce that makes the dish and they completely disregarded that for what purpose or reason I don't know. Perhaps the chef or cook doesn't know just what is required. I spoke to the waitress but to no avail as nothing was done about it.

Great service and fantastic got chocolate at a reasonable price. The location is amazing and the Great House Barn offers a wonderful way to finish off a beautiful walk in a not to be missed area of Lancashire. I've been coming here since I was a child . A great place!

I like it here. In the warmer months I come regularly before or after a walk up rivvy. The breakfast is very nice. They change the main courses (from 12 onwards) every few months it seems. Although there isn't loads of choice, there is enough to satisfy most people. The staff are generally pleasant, although they are not very attentive if you want to order something else after your initial order. Try to wave and make eye contact all you like....it could take 15 mins before you actually get spotted. But generally the food and drinks are good. The place is nice with the beams and feels cosy. Although it can get quite noisy with dogs. It's also a magnet for retired bikers, who like to park their motorbikes at the front and can make navigating the end turn of the carpark a bit of a 3 point affair. Or just play motorbike dominoes and watch them fall with a little bumper clip.😉. When the weather is good, it can be difficult to park.

We had a really lovely bacon and egg barm followed by tea and cake. We shared a carrot and pineapple cake and a hazelnut and mocha cake - both moist and delicious. The cafe was full of people and very festive.

The great house barn is very dog friendly and the staff are very helpful and quick.its a lovely place to visit. You can get a doggy sausage. Well worth regular visits

On a snowy, freezing morning, after a good walk, this place appeared, to warm us up, with a warm welcome and excellent food and drink. The coffee was first class as was the hot bacon sandwich.

Ordered the pork sandwich and was served the steak sandwich. Did not choose this as had egg on it. Not one for complaining so accepted the steak. Luckily no sign of egg on it only chewable steak and full of something bright yellow which I presume was the mustard, dripping out all over the plate and staining my hands. The price over £11. We visit on a weekly basis and this new menu is so expensive , so sorry will not be visiting again for food.

Very accommodating staff and some great treats, very difficult not to be greedy. Inside is very interesting, but it’s nice to sit outside when weather permits in their comfortable outdoor dining area. Well worth a visit at the moment as they just put up their Christmas Decorations! The are fabulous, a real credit to them. Portions still as generous! 😊🎅🏼

Always like Rivington. Country walks from easy to hard. The photo is the main entrance located on the farthest side of the barn from the road. Eat in or out or take away. Well behaved dogs are welcome.

The food is lovely the barn has a good atmosphere but sitting outside is really nice the staff brought a table outside and chairs for us could not believe how they went out of there way when they were very busy great place but the staff make it.

Overpriced, but in a good location in Rivington.

Alas no hot takeaway food on offer today. Would have been good to have had a sausage roll or a pie. However the coffee was nice but at £3.30 for a cappuccino in a paper cup twas a tad expensive. Should have gone to the Village tea rooms down the way for a hot meal that was not much more than the price of a coffee at the Barn. 2 stars but only due to the location.

Great breakfast menu until midday. 8 of us ate there and the staff combined tables so we could all sit together. Good value.

Just a minor niggle. Ordered an Afagato at 11:30 am, but they had run out of vanilla ice cream, which i thought unusual for a place with an ice cream parlour. Had it with chocolate ice cream and it is something I would have again. I think I'll call it a Mochagato, except that Judes ice cream already market that name.

Had to update my review for this place, it's a lovely old building, the service is first rate... But the food is so hit and miss. I've had 4 breakfasts there in two months. One was great, one was good, one was just about ok and another was awful. Even the coffee is inconsistent, with the worst just being like warm milk with no hint of coffee flavour. The food is best when it's quiet, that is obvious. It seems when they're busy the cooks rush and what you get sugfers for that. I wouldn't mind, but if you're charging £12 for a modest sized full English, it should be really exceptional every time. I've given up with this place now, I hope they read this and can improve.

Not much on the menu that children would in the way of hot food it's catered for the older adult The young gentleman that seated us was lovely and acknowledged my daughter but when were ready to order the young girl seemed less interested as if she didn't really want to be there, must have been having an off day It was lovely to see dogs welcome and a relaxed unrushed atmosphere which is great when you have children with you but if you do I'd suggest taking a picnic and only use this place for a hot take away drink

Visted the Old Grey Barn today. We had a lovely snack, a cream scone, and coffee and tea. We would highly recommend a visit, we will try a lunch next visit.

Great spot for bikers and families. Freshly made teas, coffees and hot chocolate drinks. (1st October 2024 cappuccino costs £3.80). There are several tea rooms in this area and I think this one the best. Good parking for cars, disabled vehicles and of course Motorcycles. Very large potholes at the entrance to the parking area. Staff are lovely.

A return visit to the lower barn cafe. A busy spot where on occasions parking can be difficult but today was fine. There is seating inside and out however we chose to sit inside. Plenty of seating available and a good menu. The menu changes and there is always a specials board. The food is very good and served quickly. Toilets are in the next building and inside there is a small shop selling local goods. Some beautiful walks on n the area so a good spot to start and end.

Fab place for an early breakfast and a brisk walk

What a lovely little spot to eat or just have a drink after a hike / walk around the beautiful Rivington Pike or even after finishing at Go Ape which is just opposite, this has a lovely feel to it. The staff are ever so kind and friendly and it’s just a lovely atmosphere.

Lovely place, great food and lovely staff, we go here regularly but after today we won’t be eating there again. Massive price hike. Such a shame but we’ll be taking our own coffee and cake and having breakfast when we get home from now on.

Great in there if it's warm you can go in and cool down and have ice lollies if it's wet you can run about and splash in puddles great fun and run about in the trees and all very friendly

The cakes didn't have the wow factor but were very acceptable. The cafe area seemed a little tired. The staff were excellent.

Nice location and atmosphere. It helped that we visited on a nice warm sunny day. The service and food was good but we would have preferred the food to come out at once because it felt like we were eating individually. However this didn't spoil our experience at all.

Had coffee and a cookie, excellent coffee and the homemade cookie. Service was brilliant

This a great gen set in the heart of the countryside surrounded with reservoirs and endless walks. Great carpark, but can be a struggle to park in, get here early if you can. Lots of outdoor seats available as well as the indoor seating area. Staff are lovely and friendly, can't do enough for you, despite how busy it was, even on a weekday, there were plenty of hands at deck to keep things running smoothly. Lovely menu, great cake and ice cream selection, although a little on the pricey side, to be expected when there is such a huge team to keep things running so efficiently. Toilets based in the Visitor Centre which are free. You can then go on and resume your walk or use this as a Base, lots to see whilst out and about.

Life may be a bit pants at the moment but it is really life-affirming to take a walk through the woods and end up at the lower barn for a decaffeinated vanilla latte. Exceptional customer service from Alex on the take-away counter really added to the experience. Then a robin redbreast joined us for a bite of Dad’s blueberry muffin 👍🤓 17 July 2024 Update Life is much. The decaf oat milk latte with a shot of vanilla, the service, are all still 5 star. Food was great for a snack after the walk

Visited on a week day and not too busy but I understand it is very busy on weekends. Did a lovely short walk to the castle and back. Then enjoyed an hour at the cafe. The food and drinks were delicious and good value for money. Would definitely recommend.

Great cafe in the middle of Rivington and all the walks. Definitely worth a visit!
