Very accommodating staff and some great treats, very difficult not to be greedy. Inside is very interesting, but it’s nice to sit outside when weather permits in their comfortable outdoor dining area. Well worth a visit at the moment as they just put up their Christmas Decorations! The are fabulous, a real credit to them. Portions still as generous! 😊🎅🏼

The food is lovely the barn has a good atmosphere but sitting outside is really nice the staff brought a table outside and chairs for us could not believe how they went out of there way when they were very busy great place but the staff make it.

Just a minor niggle. Ordered an Afagato at 11:30 am, but they had run out of vanilla ice cream, which i thought unusual for a place with an ice cream parlour. Had it with chocolate ice cream and it is something I would have again. I think I'll call it a Mochagato, except that Judes ice cream already market that name.

Had to update my review for this place, it's a lovely old building, the service is first rate... But the food is so hit and miss. I've had 4 breakfasts there in two months. One was great, one was good, one was just about ok and another was awful. Even the coffee is inconsistent, with the worst just being like warm milk with no hint of coffee flavour. The food is best when it's quiet, that is obvious. It seems when they're busy the cooks rush and what you get sugfers for that. I wouldn't mind, but if you're charging £12 for a modest sized full English, it should be really exceptional every time. I've given up with this place now, I hope they read this and can improve.

Not much on the menu that children would in the way of hot food it's catered for the older adult The young gentleman that seated us was lovely and acknowledged my daughter but when were ready to order the young girl seemed less interested as if she didn't really want to be there, must have been having an off day It was lovely to see dogs welcome and a relaxed unrushed atmosphere which is great when you have children with you but if you do I'd suggest taking a picnic and only use this place for a hot take away drink

Great spot for bikers and families. Freshly made teas, coffees and hot chocolate drinks. (1st October 2024 cappuccino costs £3.80). There are several tea rooms in this area and I think this one the best. Good parking for cars, disabled vehicles and of course Motorcycles. Very large potholes at the entrance to the parking area. Staff are lovely.

A return visit to the lower barn cafe. A busy spot where on occasions parking can be difficult but today was fine. There is seating inside and out however we chose to sit inside. Plenty of seating available and a good menu. The menu changes and there is always a specials board. The food is very good and served quickly. Toilets are in the next building and inside there is a small shop selling local goods. Some beautiful walks on n the area so a good spot to start and end.

Life may be a bit pants at the moment but it is really life-affirming to take a walk through the woods and end up at the lower barn for a decaffeinated vanilla latte. Exceptional customer service from Alex on the take-away counter really added to the experience. Then a robin redbreast joined us for a bite of Dad’s blueberry muffin 👍🤓 17 July 2024 Update Life is much. The decaf oat milk latte with a shot of vanilla, the service, are all still 5 star. This a great gen set in the heart of the countryside surrounded with reservoirs and endless walks. Great carpark, but can be a struggle to park in, get here early if you can. Lots of outdoor seats available as well as the indoor seating area. Staff are lovely and friendly, can't do enough for you, despite how busy it was, even on a weekday, there were plenty of hands at deck to keep things running smoothly. Lovely menu, great cake and ice cream selection, although a little on the pricey side, to be expected when there is such a huge team to keep things running so efficiently. Toilets based in the Visitor Centre which are free. You can then go on and resume your walk or use this as a Base, lots to see whilst out and about.

Would give overall 4 stars but it's pricey for what it is. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is tasty, just a tad expensive. Nice to sit outside and have a cuppa and ice cream (£10 for 2 tubs with 2 scoops and a flake with sauce in each) or scone after a long walk, but the cakes aren't value for money, there's a limited choice. I'd forgive that if they were imaginative, but "coconut and raspberry cake" is nothing more than a layer of coconut sponge with raspberry jam on top (no cream) and the Malteaser cake is stodgy unfortunately. The "Chicken with lemon and thyme baguette" (served with gravy?) would have been delicious at my last visit (Ive had that before)... if it hadnt been changed to beef and overcooked onion, and it would have been even nicer if the change had been on the menu. The cake regrettably removed from the menu was the tasty, value for money birthday cake. I'd still recommend as a nice place to stop for a brew though, but don't wait until too late in the day or the scones will be stale.

The proprietors have made some good changes inside and out to increase the available seating space. I didn't eat this time but the cakes looked great though a bit pricey for me. The only disappointment was that the toilet facilities are still awful and not part of the Great House Barn. Probably not in the control of the cafe, I noticed that one of the staff members had to use the public toilets outside too, she still had her apron on 😕. I would have expected by now that the cafe would have their own. Maybe more to do with Bolton council and heritage, not sure.

The breakfast was superb, a step up from anything I can recall elsewhere and the coffees were decent for a machine made drink, especially nice to see oat drinks on the menu which were hand made not machine. So on Saturday afternoon, my husband suggested having fish and chips for tea. After about 30 minutes I wonder where we’ve got to so I gave him a call he told me that he was still waiting for food even though he’s been there for 15 minutes. The ladies in the shop to talk to their friends and talk about what they’re going to do on Saturday evening ignoring customers and even putting salt and our chips when we didn’t even ask for it. The fish here was disgusting. It doesn’t taste of anything. The peas weren’t too bad but the rest we had to throw in the bin and when you’ve just paid £30 for food, it’s a lot of money.

my wife and her friend started with hot halloumi . very nice. her hubby and myself had the pea soup. OK. For mains our friends had too change their fish meal twice . no salmon or cod. they settled for Curry. My wife and I had the Sunday roast. It was piled up like there was no tomorrow, and topped off with a Yorkshire pudding and a small pot of gravy. Worst presentation ever. Sorry. maybe just a bad day for us. Terry and Benita.
