Always great standard of food that is ready to eat very quickly.

Called in on way home staff always friendly and polite. Today I asked for a small cod and large chips.....I know I asked for small cod but the piece I got was a joke 5 odd quid for the tiniest fish ever....after a long day at work I was looking forward to my tea but after getting back home I was very disappointed I live a good 10 mins drive so wasn't gonna drive all the way back after a 12 hr shift

Can't help but think £9.50 for sausage chip &gravy and small curry and chips is abit steep especially when the chips are no good curry tasteless and sausage dried out.... Chippy use to be a poor mans meal

The friendly gentleman (I'm guessing the owner) was very friendly and struck up a conversation as soon as I had made my order. It felt like he was on a first name basis with many of his customers. The food was very very tasty and would recommend to everyone who has a hankering for a beautiful battered fish. Only criticism I can give was that the order I received was a little drenched with vinager, a little too much for my liking.

Andrew runs the best fish and chips shop in the area. Great service and friendly staff. If you haven't tried the food I have no hesitation in recommending you visit and see for yourself.

Best piece of fish I’ve had from a fish and chip shop. The order was put together on time for picking up. The whole order was very good but haddock was exceptional.

First time visit here. Ordered fish and chips. The owner was very friendly and hospitable, but views on the fish and chips were mixed. The fish was excellent, freshly battered, and a good size. In contrast, chips were poor, only luke warm, and lots of scraps. We are undecided whether to give the shop a second chance.

Walked in had me standing there for 10 minutes fella walks in 10 minutes after started serving him straight away I must be a ghost Go here minimum 3 times a week just lost a customer

We find the online booking a real bonus as it saves time and the food is ready for collection right on time.

Pleasant over the phone, Food was hot and delicious. Delivery on time. Very highly recommended.

Very disappointing fish and chips at lunch. Have not been here before, bit of a let down considering it cost £9.55, fish fell apart and chips half burnt with a load of scraps with them not good.

Not had a chippy tea in a while , due to blood sugar issues. Thought I'd treat myself to a lightly battered cod. It was absolutely stunning!!! A very light crispy batter, and a perfectly cooked cod. Well done! Skippers.

Haven't been here in years but I was really impressed tonight. Friendly service. Perfectly cooked lightly battered fish. Reasonable prices. I'd give them an extra star for having proper ketchup portions rather than sachets if I could.

Visited here 1.10.22. For lunch. . It was beyond excellent . .the staff and owner were lovely to shop with and the food was wonderful. Massive choice of fish , i had Scampi , and got a full side salad and home made Tartar sauce. We are from Bolton , but will be going again when we are in the area. Highly recommend to all.

Had a very poor fish supper from here last Friday, poor portion undercooked chips, and by far the dearest in the area. Thought I would give it a second chance as home late this Friday, and have seen the owner masquerading on TV as the biggest fish and chips expert in the universe. Played safe and went for steak pudding and chips with gravy for me and my wife. This took 40 minutes to make by the rudest staff I have come across, not just to me but virtually everyone who came in. They were worse than last week. Also for the second week running I was overcharged by a £1 exactly the same as last week. I was talking to someone walking home and he said him and his neighbour stopped going here due to the awful food, and being short changed. He recommended Parker street chippy in Chorley for great food, friendly service and value for money. Mr Crook needs to stop noncing around promoting himself and sort his chip shop out as people will walk.

My sister lives close to this chippy. She rates this. The size of this cooking / frying range is industrial size. The guy who runs the shop is also a programmer, so he's bright. He has a chatty style with the customer. Be clear what you ask for as I mistakenly ordered double portions, and felt a fool and didn't want a fuss and kept it! The meal I bought was good and the price is competitive. There are no seats so need a local house or a car.

Very disappointing. I was really looking forward to my meal. I ordered a plaice and chips. They were wrapped separately. The plaice was sat in a puddle of very yellow oil. I put it on a plate and had to keep pressing kitchen roll into the batter to try to get rid of some of the oil, but in the end I left it, because I felt sick. It’s the worst fish I’ve had in a very long time. The chips looked good, but were very dry and hard.

Recently, when I have collected my fish & chips I have found the chips to be dry and crispy as always, but the fish, though obviously fresh and of good quality, to be disappointingly swimming ( no pun intended ) in grease and therefore very unappetising. I believe that when taken from the fryer, the fish are not rested in the warming drawer long enough to drain them of fat. I am only writing this review not to impinge on the excellent reputation of Skippers but in the hope that a minor change in procedure might restore the food to its original high quality. I have also noticed that when the food was below standard the owner was not present.

Decent fish but the chips were disgusting all hard and way under cooked threw them in the bin, been better off giving me them raw and telling me to cook them myself !

Haven't visited this chippy for about 12 months, even though it's our local. It was disappointing then, but I thought I'd give it another chance so tried again tonight. The £5.20 fish was miniature, the lightly battered wasn't lightly battered, and the chips were hard and cold, rip-off springs to mind. But to top it off the 4 staff acted like headless chickens, couldn't believe it. Will I be going again... not a chance. Ann

Tonight is the second time we have been in this chippy the first time was about 3 months ago and we said it's very poor food and wouldn't go there again, but Tonight we thought we would give it another try, we ordered fish an chips and steak and kidney pie and chips the fish was ok as it was freshly cooked but the chips are certainly not chippy chips remind me if frozen chips as they were hard on the outside and in the middle aswell must be frozen or they have been kept warm for hours disgraceful, the steak and kidney pie had been microwaved the pastry was soggy, so out of the 2 meals all was eaten was the fish. Certainly won't ever go there again, you must think again before going there, I will go to brown's chippy nearby which is a far superior chippy. Very disappointed wouldn't recommend

Love this chippy, when I visit my mum I always try and Bob in. Andrew the owner is brilliant and well respected in the industry. These guys know how to do fish and chips properly this fish is always fresh and a lovely white colour. Great choice of curry sauce too, and the chips are delicious.

Passed this chippy many times but never called in until today. Chips with hot thick curry sauce 10/10 delicious.

Called here as our usual chippy had closed early, was very pleasantly surprised, this is our go to for fish & chips from now on. Beautiful fresh haddock, and perfect chips, not at all greasy. Can highly recommend

.........calling in tired and hungry after a 10 hour shift, I was not impressed to learn that my order was given lower priority than those being done 'on-line'. After placing my order, I waited patiently with three others who arrived just after me, watching numerous random Just Eats orders being fulfilled. Then another woman arrived and placed a similar order to mine. After a further wait, a member of staff bought out my food and announced it. Just as I said 'that's my order', the woman smirked at me, accepted it and walked off. I expected the member of staff to back me up as she knew I'd been waiting the longest, however this was not the case. Eventually, the woman's order arrived and so I ended up with hers instead. How do I know they mixed us up? Coz when I got home I discovered we had got bloody peas instead of the gravy I'd ordered!! If Skippers are to continue with this method of service, may I respectfully suggest that they allocate a number or a name to each order so that there is no chance of a similar cock-up in future? I mean, heaven forbid that they mix up one of the precious on-line orders..... Not that it will affect me, as I won't be bothering going back again.

Love this chippy! Regular here the chips are perfectly cooked and fish to perfection. Staff are friendly and efficient. Andrew is highly skilled and his team work well to give good customer experience, you are always guaranteed to be met with friendly faces. Fish and chips worth travelling for! Highly recommended

Put vinager on my chips didnt as for it spoiled our lunch.

We like a similar post, moved to the area 2 years ago. I have used Skippers pretty much a couple of times per month and the general quality has deteriorated. The chips ate chewy which leads me to believe that the raw chips gave been stored in water too long. The cod has little taste and the batter is soggy. The mild curry sauce looked like it had curdled or someone had regurgitated it. All bits and no sauce. I have visited Browns in Chorley recently, purely due to being in Chorley at the time. So much better in everyday, the service is also more personable unlike the clinical way in which skippers transects its business. Skippers please take heed of the comments you are recieving or you risk losing your customer base. Fish and chips is not a cheap option for a family and needs to reflect reasonable value for money. I'm not one for posting negative reviews but once or twice you can accept as unlucky but the quality has been questionable for sometime.

I need to express that I don’t agree with your machine taking the cash. So impersonal. Its like buying your fish and chip at an NCP car park. If you feel my cash is dirty and you aren’t happy it in your hand, I’ll take it elsewhere. Secondly the wires about the machine don’t look pretty. Food always super . Shame.

As an award winning Fish n Chip shop, Skippers has been hit and miss recently, but latterly more miss than hit for us I’m afraid. We have been fairly regular customers since moving into the area in March 2018, but since COVID-19 lockdown the consistency and quality has been variable but always edible and delivered with a smile. We can forgive soggy chips and soft battered fish when picking up online orders, which may have sat a while waiting to be picked up during lockdown, but more recently we have been able to order fresh cooked from the counter for takeaway as soon as it’s bagged up which we felt would eliminate any prior lockdown related issues. Sadly this has not been the case and only one the last three orders has been well cooked with golden brown and crispy batter, fluffy cod and crispy outside / soft inside chips - just as you would expect from an award winning Chippy. So, please Skippers can you get back to the good old days ASAP and not be so content to dish up under cooked, soggy and anaemic fish and chips more times than you dish up the good stuff in our recent experience s it can be a great experience. The Brexit deal got done today and we haven’t given up on you but let’s make Skippers Consistently Great Again soon!

The service was excellent. The food was absolutely delicious. The fish was incredible and the salt and pepper squid and battered haggis were both cooked to perfection. Ordering using the Skippers app was easy. I was able to choose my collection time and the food was ready for me when I arrived.

Had to visit local hospital. Checked for nearest chippy and Skippers came up. Brilliant fish and chips. The guy also does free meals for kids during the week. So its a big 5 from me.

Sorry 4 reduced to 3...food was OK .. Haddock excellent... Cod OK... Chips OK.. On the large side pale and little underdone in our opinion...but I'm sure many may like them that way. It wasn't a 5 star creation.. So it became 4...then 3 because of the click and collect prioritisation of sales...waiting for the order was longer than we expected.

Second visit here as used to go to poplar chippy when Andrew was there years ago. Drove 15 mins as it was so good the first time. Andrew wasn't frying tonight and the stress levels seemed quite high in the shop (especially the one with purple hair) even though the was never more than 3 people in the queue outside. I ordered a large haddock but was told there was no haddock so asked for a large cod which was £5.95 just for the fish so not cheap! Waited about 10 mins and heard some discussion about what was a large cod and regular cod between the girls in the shop. Got my food about 5 mins later and drove home. When I unwrapped the food, the cod was smaller than the regular haddock I got on my first visit so I think someone must have got my large cod and I got their regular one. I don't mind paying if its good which it was but disappointing when you don't get what you ordered. Food is 5 star but this is an overall score so could only be a 3 star.

Generally enjoy the food from this chippy, the food is generally good and service but disappointed with the portions at recent visits. Find for the price the portions are lacking both on larger chips and also fish. Find can get better value for money elsewhere.

Used to love this place, but last couple of times I've had it...not really enjoyed the food. Chips bland and under cooked for my liking. Hope they stop trying to win awards and just try to cook tasty food like they used too.

Awful under cooked chips and bad portions

We work in a small nursery and really needed a Friday lunchtime treat, not only did we get good hot food but they do delivery that arrived on time, added bonus the chips and curry sauce were suitable for a vegetarian staff member, highly recommend and would be ordering again.

Proper chip shops are getting harder to find these days. The staff are super welcoming here great banter and great food highly recommended

If you're looking for something good, then go no further than Skippers fish and chips. Freshly cooked and good quality. Perfect with plenty of salt and vinegar. Can't beat it.

Great quality fish and chips served by an extremely passionate owner who is very knowledgable and well trained and helpful staff. Food is clearly fresh and well prepared using good quality ingredients and not prepared frozen stuff you can sometimes find in normal takeaways. They have coped with the changes necessitated by the pandemic in an innovative way through an online ordering system and put out very good food at a reasonable price. Feel very lucky to have them as our local and look forward to visiting for many years to come.

We were staying in chorley for 1 night orded from here it only took about 20 minutes to be delivered the lady on thhe phone was so helpful and Karen who brought our food was fantastic best fish and chips we had in a long Tim the food was hot and there was plenty definitely order from there again

When you meet most owners of businesses, their chat is usually going to be about how hard they work and the stresses of your own business..."Andy" is without doubt the opitome of his profession!!He lives, breathes and sleeps frying fish and chips!!There is no whinging, just none stop promotion for his brand and industry.He continually looks to improve his customer offering and service with new dishes and biodegradable packaging etc...Top chippy and a first class ambassador for the fryers fraternity!!

Chips are the best in the area by far

Haddock & chips, really nice fish & generous portion of chips which were well cooked. We had mushy peas & to be honest these were a bit tasteless / lacking seasoning, but the fish & chips are the main event so 5 stars nonetheless.

I've been going to Skippers since it opened, moved abroad a few years ago and now it's an annual tradition to get a chippy when visiting the family at Christmas. Normally top notch service, lovely staff and owner... Only this time they forgot my mushy peaaasssssss :'(

we ordered med chip saveloy and donna kebab was told it would be half hours and took nearly an hour was stone cold could not eat the kebab meat as was like rubber and chips cold and ive never seen a saveloy that small....did not enjoy will not be ordering again

Fish fryed to order,great chippy

I dont normally use skippers but was in a rush, i purchased a standard portion of fish and chips,when i got home and opened it up the fish was half the size of a normal size fish i get from my usual chippy in chorley plus the portion size of the chips was quite small, oh yes and i was charged £8.50, safe to say i wont be going back to skippers again.

Peas had a soappy teast pudding was bland.I was disapponted as every other time ive been ive always had a good meal...but it wont stop me returning.

fantastic fish and chips and great staff .... tried langoustine for the first time here and as every thing else I had cooked to perfection ... a must visit if you are in the area.

Visiting Botany Bay from Stockport we drove 4 miles out of our way to try this place and it did not disappoint. The batter on the fish was so light and crispy. We ate in the car and it was nice to eat out of a large box rather than the usual cramped offerings. Equal best chippy i've visited. Ever.

Visited Skippers fish and chip shop this evening, Again a very happy regular customer. The service was exceptionally Great and my Fish and Chips were excellent Thank you once again Naomi and your team of Ladies.

Just had a delicious takeaway. Langoustines (Scampi),salad, chips and tatar sauce, highly recommended. And the ladies working at Skippers are a delight, nothing was to much trouble, I really appreciated their help.
