Lovely busy pub, nice atmosphere, great food. We are in the bar area (so no table service to order and you can't book a table in the bar, only the restaurant) but it was really good food and the staff were great.

my wife and her friend started with hot halloumi . very nice. her hubby and myself had the pea soup. OK. For mains our friends had too change their fish meal twice . no salmon or cod. they settled for Curry. My wife and I had the Sunday roast. It was piled up like there was no tomorrow, and topped off with a Yorkshire pudding and a small pot of gravy. Worst presentation ever. Sorry. maybe just a bad day for us. Terry and Benita.

Lovely meal, except for the mash potatoes, they were far too salty, as to be inedible, I tasted them before adding more, but still way over seasoned. Shame because it ruined a perfect meal

The food and friendly service is really good here the only thing that spoils it for us if we are dining is the lack of quality wines on offer both limited & poor choices which is a shame. We aren't wine snobs but better and more choices should be available. Having said that the beers and food are excellent though!

Been going to Boars Head on and off for years, we went for Sunday roast yesterday and it was disappointing to say the least. Roast potatoes where hard, kids burger got left as it wasn't good and not sure who thinks its a good idea to put Cumberland sausage on a child's meal. Majority of the food got left. Im more disappointed how management dealt with it to be honest no good will gesture just an “oh sorry” as we paid the £120 bill, he didn't even ask for details to why we didn't enjoy our meal, we did tell the waiter when she collected the plates to which she offered us desserts but still charged us anyway. Shame as we have always enjoyed dining here.

Went to the Boars Head with my friend for a late lunch. The food was exceptional, we had the prawns with mango and chilli dip followed by the chicken and seafood paella. Beautiful food. Full of mango in the prawns, the paella was full of chicken with lots of seafood presented lovely. The staff were pleasant, accomadating and just a pleasure to be in the company of such lovely young people. I cannot mention the two young ladies and the young gentlemen s nss as mes because I didn’t know their names, beautiful place with a great vibe and buzzing with other guests. Just a fantastic afternoon. Will definitely be back. Thank you to all staff for great food and great service. Thank you. (Maria at Samlesbury Hall)

The Boars Head is a really nice place to visit. The food is very good and we enjoyed our choices. My chosen dish of cheese and onion pie was disappointing only for the fact there was cheese and no onion. Thank goodness there was no potatoe in there. Otherwise, I may have gone mad with this review. This is a little in jest, of course, but I do prefer cheese and onion pie to have a content of onion. Chef, please take note that your pies are not that good. Try a different recipe, including large pieces of onion.

It was a very pleasant afternoon / evening. Me and my wife don’t get out very often so when we do it’s nice to experience a calm and relaxing environment. We arrived and were seated by a very pleasant young man who was a trainee, you really wouldn’t have thought he was a trainee as he oozed in confidence and had a lovely pleasant manor. Overall the service was excellent and the food was tasty, the ambiance was cool and honest and the drinks flowed freely. What a lovely pleasant evening. If the trainee’s are this good then surely that is a huge plus for this establishment. Well done the boars head, we will return.

Asked on local FB community:- Anyone truly recommend somewhere pretty local for a Sunday roast:-meat not over cooked (eg not grey), Yorkshire puds cooked from fresh ie not frozen, veg nicely cooked (ie al dente) … not a silly price…just like I get at home but I’d like to treat chef to day off! Beers & wine fine, experimented with Burrata shared starter, we went for roasts. Wife totally pleased with salmon. I went trio. Meat stacked on top, spotted YP & veg under. Plenty gravy! In the end, YP & roast spuds disappointing, I think meat & veg had softened them. Waitress checked & promised YPs were home made from scratch. But for me, they weren't up to scratch! Sorry!

Was very very worried when my father in law pulled up outside this pub especially after realising it was a 4 star eatery, this is largely because I had my 8 year old non verbal autistic son with me and knew this wouldn't be a good place to be with him but didn't want to let me father in law down, I expected funny looks, tuts and sighs from staff and customer as dealing with a non verbal child is hard enough never mind trying to serve dinner to him and keep other customers happy aswell as be OK with the requests I gave due to him having an eating disorder BUT what I got was the absolute total opposite treatment from staff and customers the girls serving were amazing with him 🤗 I couldn't believe it they accepted all the requests without questions ( usually get alot of questions from servers when I tell them he will hardly eat anything) they also made sure we had everything we needed for him including an extra plate incase he did want to try the food. The food itself is out of this world! Even my teenage daughter enjoyed her meal it was that good! The place itself is beautifully decorated and not cluttered, parking was easy and wheelchair entrance too, toilet was spotless 🤗 All in all this is an amazing restaurant with amazing food and absolute top notch staff I would 💯 come back here and highly recommended anyone to call in and try it 😀

We thought the menu was rather limited in choice and that the food it was overpriced for what it was. We had a pie and chips at £17 each (and one came with a small side serving of cheap Heinz baked beans!). The tastelss desserts were £8 and £9 respectively so were definitely not worth the money. The dining area we sat in, while modern and contemporary, was too warm as it lacked air conditioning. The windows I opened for fresh air were quickly closed by the young staff on duty. We will stick to just having a drink here in future.

Booked last minute for a Wednesday evening, 2 adults & 1 child. Wanted to visit here for a while as I had heard good things. I ordered fillet steak stroganoff off specials menu, husband ordered Boars Head burger and we ordered bangers and mash for daughter. Burger was good, fries were fresh, all in all as you would expect, a bit pricey but aren’t all things these days ? Now onto the stroganoff, totally underwhelming and gloopy, suspected no cream nor brandy was used although waitress insisted chef included, beef was chewy and the ‘panache greens’ consisted of limp tenderstem broccoli, very disappointing indeed and not what I would expect for a dish costing £17. Child’s meal was a single sausage, a portion of mash the size of a satsuma, and a small portion of gravy on the side, £7.. really !!! Returned the gloop to the bar as no one was for coming to the table to check if everything was ok, duty manager didn’t even apologise.. Idyllic location, however food is overpriced and underwhelming, would call for drinks but would not eat here again…

We have been here countless times before and rarely had any issues however our visit last week was really disappointing. It started before we even got there - I emailed well in advance after booking on line to check about vegan options as they have removed a few options from the menu. It took them three days to get back to me to say there were options on the menu and offered another couple of options that could be veganised quite easily so I promptly email them back to say thanks and ask them if we needed to book any options in advance - no reply - not good customer service but we all have good and bad days so I didn't give it much more thought. I was the first to arrive of my party on the night and reasonably quickly greeted and shown to our reserved table. A waitress came over to take my drink order and this was brought quite promptly. The rest of our party arrived shortly after and likewise, didn't need to wait long for drinks. When the waitress brought the remaining drinks I asked about vegan options - she told me they were labelled 'Ve' on the menu - I could clearly see that from reading the menu but not wanting to sound sarcastic I had to politely point out that literally nothing on the starter section was vegan - disappointment #1. (I also noticed that a dish containing parmesan was labelled 've' - parmesan isn't even vegetarian let alone vegan! Whoever does the menus really needs to check these things). I asked if they could offer anything and she went off to ask coming back quite a while later letting me know there was one dish they could modify. She disappeared again and came back to take our order a little later. Mine choice wasn't difficult - one modifiable dish from the starter section and only a burger option from the mains section to choose from. The starter was nice enough but the rest of the party did comment on how long it had taken to get the starters although they did enjoy them (disappointment #2). Next course came and again was nice enough - nothing particularly special. The triple cooked chips were soggy but edible. None of us had puddings (again nothing vegan other than sorbet - which is hardly a pudding) but I did have an oat-milk cappuccino. The whole evening cost the best part of £100 for three starters, three mains and 5 drinks so not cheap but really wasn't worth it either (disappointment #3). Some of the staff were nice and friendly, one was very good and efficient, one looked like we were inconveniencing her. The place was clean as always (although the ladies toilets could have done with a quick clean and tidy). It was nice and warm too - important when it's cold and frosty outside. I can see both sides of not having a huge vegan selection - they don't want stock that won't sell but so many things are so easily veganised without a lot of weird and wonderful ingredients that places really need to re-think their offerings. If they don't have options, people will look - and book - elsewhere - and we generally don't eat on our own so these places are missing out on having larger numbers/more frequent customers. Make things and they will come...word travels fast. Last but not least - one of our party asked for a glass of tap water. It came with a slice of lemon. Mouldy lemon. The water was murky and looked like it had come out of the dishwasher. We're old enough to know that sometimes water takes a minute or so to clear when it comes out of the tap but if it hasn't cleared in 10 minutes - it isn't going to. We caught the eye of a waitress and showed her the water - and the lemon covered in white spots (really should have taken a photo of it) - she made an excuse about the tap water needing time to sit and offered to bring another - this time it cleared quickly and didn't have any lemon in it thankfully. Will we go back? - not for a while but everywhere has it bad days so we'll give it another chance - just not for a while sadly; I certainly won't be taking family and friends anymore.

We like the building, restaurant, bar and staff so here we were for a return visit. Overall a nice visit but with a couple of observations that could have bumped it up to a 5* review. The temperature of the mushroom starter was inconsistent throughout the dish - maybe they should have given kit a stir when they were cooking it. A bit odd really. Now to the turkey Christmas dinner. One meal came out with some thick delicious looking slices with (herb coated?) skin on. Yum, I can’t wait for mine to arrive. A minute or two later it arrived with fairly insipid looking slices (no skin) which were about one third as thick. Still turkey I suppose but disappointing. A whisker under twenty quid for the main course alone, which I thought was on the “top side”, for what I got. Anyway, tis the season to be jolly (apparently) so they’re getting 4*.

Mid week, rang the wrong pub to book, went to the right pub. Standard menu & festive! We shared a chorizo & prawn starter - chorizo hard to fine, half a doz decent size prawns! I had festive eg monster pie, wife had sea trout etc including dauphinoise spuds! Quantity & Quality really really good, 2 young waitresses admirable! Couple of drinks each - £72.50 with tip! If this is a chain pub - you couldn't tell! Should I write & publish a book more often? No!

I was staying nearby having travelled up from Devon, so it was my first visit; meeting a friend that was local. I was quickly taken to our booked table and the customer service was perfect. The food was tasty and served quickly. Nothing was too much trouble (I'm gluten free). Never felt rushed to leave our table as we chatted for a few hours. Plenty of free parking too.

Excellent food and service. First visit today and it won’t be the last. We both ordered the black pudding starter. It was a really big portion and to be honest didn’t really need the dauphinois potatoes. The peppercorn sauce was lovely. I had the supreme of chicken and again it was delicious. My partner had the steak pie and it was so good to see a homemade pie. Again it was delicious and very filling, Sadly we had no room for dessert.

Amazing food Had the trio Sunday roast (beef / turkey / pork) And other was the beef roast Nice big portions with a pot of gravy, all cooked spot on and so tasty. Yorkshire puds are big and one of the nicest I’ve had (not your typical burnt effort on the outside and bland full of air in the middle like you get in some other places) . Also had the sticky toffee pudding with small jug of custard afterwards …. Absolutely delightful! From start to finish just superb. 30 mins drive for us but glad we went as we’ll be definitely back 🤌🏼🤌🏼

We went last night table booked for 7pm 9 adults + 4 children. Service was great, staff was friendly, pub was fairly busy, we ordered starters + mains, one of the starters had been forgotten about but staff was really apologetic about it + offered a drink on the house for the person who's starter it was, salt + pepper chicken bites are a definite must try, loaded fries was quite dry but tasty, black pudding starter is really nice aswell as pork belly starter. We all had a starter each + a main with plenty of drinks + the bill wasn't as steep as I thought it was going to be, we spent around 2+ half hours at the table + got asked if we wanted to see the desert menu but we was all to full from starters + mains... Haha everyone at our table enjoyed their meal + never found a fault with any of it burgers, sirloin steak, surf + turf, bacon chop, kids sausage + mash, kids chicken bites, kids cheeseburger, would definitely go back here + recommend. I only got two pictures one of the salt + pepper bites + surf + turf... Thank you to all at boars head for a fantastic meal + service.

Yet again, I write another review for The Spinners, the perfect pub and restaurant for all pockets and all occasions. This time it is a review of Munchy Mondays, a one day a week feast of one, two or three courses that will tickle even the most discerning pallet at great prices. On Christmas Day this year we will be celebrating 9 (nine) years of being patrons of the Spinners, our first visit was at 1.00pm on a very wet 25th December 2015, turning up as we did just for a Christmas pint with our family to celebrate moving to the area two days prior. Thanks Glen and Emma for your service to customers. Merry Christmas. Steven and Lisa C, (and Sid) see you again on Christmas Eve 2024 (with Louise!!!!!)

Best chippy in Lancashire - and the owner is the President of the National Fish Fryers Assoc. You’ve probably seen him on TV. Does his industry proud.

Great service and fantastic got chocolate at a reasonable price. The location is amazing and the Great House Barn offers a wonderful way to finish off a beautiful walk in a not to be missed area of Lancashire. I've been coming here since I was a child . A great place!
