Lovely place to stop and have some food, with a fantastic view. Some of the staff I feel need to be a bit more considerate. Just placing our food on the end of the table isn't great service. Ask who has ordered what, and the food can be placed in front of them. Apart from that, I would visit again.

This is set in a beautiful area with fantastic views. It is very peaceful and lovely place to stop for a coffee on a walk around Rivington. The coffee was good, the breakfast was reasonably priced, with good quality ingredients. I didn’t give this a full 5 stars due to a couple of problems. The serving is chaotic. You order at one place and then we stood in a long queue for the drinks, despite many servers making the drinks. I think there would be a better and much more streamlined way to organise this. You didn’t know, upon entering, which queue to join. The second problem was that the breakfasts arrived with no tomatoes, despite these being on the menu for the full breakfast. Nothing had been said when ordering or when the breakfast was brought to us. When I asked where they were, a waitress said she would find out and minutes later brought us some uncooked tomatoes and said that they had run out of ‘grilled’ tomatoes. This just seemed bizarre as to cook them would have taken minutes. The last thing was the cordial, which seemed expensive at £2 for a pint and it was very weak. Overall an ok experience, but could have been better.

Food served on freezing plates is a no no. There is no excuse for this. Non of my party would eat here again. They also served a Beef an onion Barm without the Beef. On the wrong colour Barm too. Poor.

Took my mum and children for Mother’s Day afternoon tea; we had a fantastic time. The service was great, food was lovely and we really enjoyed the singer. A lot of effort had clearly gone into the event; the room and tables were dressed really nice for the occasion. A Prosecco and lovely welcome on arrival, dealt with my amended booking quickly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. The kids loved it; no cost for them, but they had their own platter of food and fruit. The flowers on departure were a really nice touch. Great afternoon

Unfortunately our Mothers day experience here was ruined when we arrived to find we did not have the table we had specifically booked. I wouldn't usually leave a negative review simply for a table mix up but the reaction we got is the reason I am sharing. On arrival we told to who we thought to be the owner/organiser that the table we have been provided was not what we requested, to which we got shrugged sholders and no apology at all. We arrived with 2 extra children which they did get two extra chairs for and supplied drinks and food for last minute but may I say I did try to add the children on buy phoning through but there was never any answer. The food was good but I would say over priced for what we recieved, although the girls serving were lovely. They had a singer who was great but the volume was extremely loud so we couldn't hear eachother speak, we decided to get takeaway and sit outside with the view we had requested and to chat together without shouting, as we left to sit outside the owner looked at us but decided not to say thank you, goodbye, sorry for the inconvenience... clearly didn't care that our experience wasn't great, then proceeded to hand out flowers to all the other customers apart from us, unbelievably rude and spiteful not professional in the slightest! ***Regarding your reply*** Still no apology for the mix up, no ownership of that what so ever, i knew this would be the case because it was the case on the day and that was the whole issue as I mentioned above. Yes I was upset and rightly so when arriving to have booked a window table for that to be given away and us placed in the middle of the restaurant with the view of everyone elses heads and looked at like i have just slapped someone across the face because i told you i had requested to be seated there upon booking. Yes I said above you seated my children and also mentioned is the reason I didn't get the chance to book them on in the first place, I didn't request anything free and didn't expect anything but 2 chairs. As you well know we stayed long after everyone else left we were very visible seated outside and ordered drinks and even came back in for ice creams. Your attitude and lack of empathy towards the mix up of table is the reason I'm here reviewing, and unfortunately has put us off ever returning, it's great everyone else enjoyed their day as it ruined ours.

Came for a mother's day afternoon tea and the service Was absolutely awful the owner was nothing but rude to us we had to sit and watch staff go above and beyond for all the other family's being made to feel uncomfortable by the owner this was so unprofessional when leaving she held the door open never said goodbye nothing then handed out flowers to all the other guests 😢 this was the worst experience on what sould of been a lovely day I will.not be returning and tbh it was definitely over priced paying 120 for a few sandwiches frozen quiche and dry cakes with sqirty cream I suggested you stick to bacon and sausage buttys in future afternoon teas are definitely not your strong point

Visited here twice in two months, the first visit was a good experience and enjoyed a Greeleys Pork Pie, which was fresh pastry and lovely tasting pork filling made our visit worthwhile, coffee and good seating both inside and outside around the bowling green. The second visit was badly timed, we had a very long wait to be served because a party of 28 arrived, just in front of me who had made an advanced booking. They told me that additional staff were being made available so they could be served without disruption to other customers! This did not happen, no additional staff were on hand to serve other customers which annoyed me and those waiting behind me. After a long wait I was served, by a disinterested member of staff without any apology.

Me, my partner and 2 children came down from Warton yesterday to meet with family and have a bite to eat here before a nice walk around the area. Upon arrival we could see that they were busy with a function on and with it being a nice day there was lots of members of the public too. We queued inside for drinks and barms. It was 2.30pm and I was told they still served these at this time usually. The girl behind the bar explained they had stopped serving food because of the function but the pasties and sausage rolls were available so we ordered those instead. As we waited for these to be prepared, another person next to us began to order barms with another waitress so we asked that girl if they were still serving barms and she said yes. This happened just as the previous girl came out with our pasties so we said well we originally wanted barms but were told they weren’t being served now so we got pasties instead. As we explained this, a young man who was pulling a pint for another customer said with an attitude “she made a mistake, you’ve got those now so leave it.” I was taken aback by this smarmy comment from a member of staff. His body language and the way he spoke was uncalled for and put a dampener on the rest of our afternoon. Any other place would have easily taken the pasties away and corrected the order but no. It was a real shame and left our family member upset with the way she was spoken to and dealt with. She visits this cafe once or twice a week and we came on her recommendation so it’s a shame that the staff let our experience down.

First time here (on a sunday afternoon), where to start, they are dog friendly outside, older benches, under the trees where we were sat, but usable all numbered, some with good views of the reservoir. The inside is a well presented and clean, with a bar, clean toilets for use if using The Rivington only, good atmosphere, service, I can fault the staff they where pleasant and welcoming, the only thing was when ordering hot drinks was when queueing there was not sign to split hot drinks and the bar, it was one of the staff asking if you want hot drink go to the end counter, and it seemed as if there was not enough room to put all the cups, due to two trays on the counter in the way, a small thing. Overall this is well worth a visit, and we got to watch a bowls game. Own small car park. Top of the list good value. We'll done will be back.

A group of us had called in here almost exactly a year before and had a great time just having a beer and watching the scenery. This time we had organised and in informal bowling competition and this venue was perfect for it. We got there early on a Saturday morning so had coffee and breakfast which was top quality and good value. I must make a point about how good the Service is here And we were looked after in a quick and friendly manner. I am a bowling novice but still had an absolutely wonderful time. At Points it was difficult to concentrate on the game as the scenery is so spectacular and other people I know are now going to visit as a result of a video I showed them. the green is extremely well kept and was challenging for me but still fabulous fun. The owners of the club had a chat with us and it is obvious they really care about you having a great time and have very thoughtful about their business indeed. A return visit won't be long off that's for sure.

A beautiful location by the reservoirs makes full use of the large windows at this location. Clean light and comfortable inside, real fire, some cosy seating and nicely spaced out tables and chairs for eating. Staff friendly enough and polite, didn't eat but stopped for coffee. I ordered a reasonably priced cappuccino. Proper espresso machine, not instant. So why the 3 stars? The coffee was awful. It was presented properly, chocolate dusting etc. But the coffee itself tasted old/stale. Was surprising and spoiled the moment somewhat... but the location is so beautiful. Sitting in those big windows seeing the storm whip up the reservoirs, I enjoyed the moment nonetheless.

First car park was rammed and hard work turning with all the other cars but what can you do that can’t be helped. It was so busy found it a little hectic. Found it over priced for what we ordered my toasties barely had cheese but mainly just huge onions which was too much for me really. We would go back for drinks but not food. We sat out as we had the dog infront of a door that said main entrance only instead of that one so we wouldn’t be in the way with the dog but everyone used the door anyway. Food came to the wrong table but that had just been marked down wrong when I told them where we was sat outside the door without a number. Chips was nice.

Really lovely staff, very friendly. Food was perfect pub grub and they didn't hold back on the portion sizes! We got the chicken burger and the beef burger and they were both massive and spot on, asked if we could have chips instead of fries and they did it no problem and so worth it, the chips were unreal. Shared an Eton mess for dessert which was lovely and refreshing, especially in this weather! Highly recommend!

We visited Owd Barn on the Saturday just before Mother's Day and were booked in for afternoon tea for five of us. My mother in law has some mobility problems and so I spoke to the staff in advance, who were very helpful in arranging a table with easy access. We were served quickly, but never felt rushed, even though it was clearly very busy with a couple of large parties also having afternoon tea. The food itself was delicious - a variety of sandwiches and savoury pastries plus soup served in a teacup and best of all - freshly cooked chips which was lovely as something different from the usual afternoon tea. Scones were fresh and the jam was very tasty. Finally a selection of cakes. We couldn't quite manage it all and so were given a box to take the leftovers home. All in all a really great experience with great customer service... we'll definitely be back!
