Visited the town for a weekend away. Great friendly pub, excellent service with a good selection of beers. Can’t wait to visit again!

Cosy, welcoming pub. Seemed to be mainly locals in there on the two occasions we visited (me, my wife, and my sons aged 12, 16 and 18), but you tourists really should pop in for a drink (don't think they do food). Locals are friendly, as are the landlord and other staff (who pointed out the presence of a pool table to my sons, who would otherwise have been unaware). Good selection of beers, with a particularly creamy Guinness. Give it a visit...

Popped in for a pint after a good walk. Really nice pub, good beer, friendly staff, warm log burner - what’s not to like! If you have seen some dodgy previous reviews IGNORE, this is just a good old fashioned pub with a warm welcome for all.

A very nice cosy pub and the lady behind the bar was friendly and welcoming. They offer a good range of beer including local beers and it is the location is beautiful. Recommended if you are looking to have a beer during your travels.

Surprised to read reviews saying staff and locals are not friendly. Not my experience at all. Started in this pub at 5pm, we went around town and ended up back here to finish. Had a great night, was never felt to be unwelcome at all.

well im afraid I disagree and cannot see your reasoning as it is all lies. Our cards weren’t declined and we have bank statements showing money was in fact spent there. There was only mention of fighting when the manager decided to get aggressive and verbally abusive first and lastly I would love to know who saw us being put in handcuffs as that never happened and the police agreed the reasoning we were kicked out was out of order and there was nothing we could do about it as it’s your pub you can clearly have a personal opinion about someone and kick them out. If we had done anything serious I’m sure the police would have taken things further which has not been the case, maybe they’re focusing on all the locals they know you’re letting get up to no good in the toilets/pub , really need to work on the lies you tell, merry Christmas x x x

Was in the pub with a friend having a drink and got kicked out for reasons they couldn’t even explain. The manager (murain) even said me and my friend looked like strippers for just wearing dresses and heels as if that had any relation to why they wanted to kick us out. If we had caused any agro or been violent towards anyone fair enough but we had done nothing wrong! It all felt like personal digs which was very unprofessional. As managers if they had wanted us to leave they should have done it the right way and been professional they chose to argue and scream as if that would help any situation? It’s a small pub on a quiet weekend in December obviously drunk girls are going to stand out being loud but that isn’t a crime, never knew you couldn’t have a laugh and get drunk on a Saturday night absolutely shocking.

A lovely pub that is not tied to any brewery or otherwise - a proper freehouse. Three ales on, I think revolving. At least one from N Wales, an ale from Cwrw Llyn seemed to always be on, also saw Butty Bach from the Wye Valley Brewery. It has a lovely interior, good staff and full of friendly people. It was not doing food when we visited. Plenty of outside seating if the weather is good.

Lovely welcome into this refurbished hotel bar. Quite good range of ales. Chose the "local" ale from a Nefyn brewery. Well kept, was allowed a taster, hoppy and slight citrusy aftertaste. All Covid restrictions and protocols in place. Only downside was the lack of parking, but that's Dolgellau for you. Short walks are possible from the Coop or public carpark near the river. Covered outside seating is abundantly available.

Sat outside (as instructed) for 15mins. 3 members of staff walked past the table, 1 cleared a table, 1 spoke to some girls on their 3rd round, the other blanked us and went for a smoke. Went elsewhere.

Couldn't agree less with Daniel's review. Visited 3 weeks ago, was made to feel completely welcome and heading down for a pint now. Land lady and locals were all incredibly friendly. Looks like someone was having a bad day

I have visited this pub many times whilst regularly visiting the area and it always pleases. The beer, the food, the ambience and the staff are all second to none. This was my visit since the Covid restrictions and I will be visiting many times more as I have missed it.

People can sit inside but for some reason the likes of me can't 😆 outsiders don't belong here thats for sure, well done for making me feel un welcome 😉 no skin of my noise ill take my coin somewhere else. No star or should I say good night.

After taking my husband to the hospital we decided to stop off at The Unicorn, was hoping for lunch but whilst seated we were informed that no food was being served. Our 2 year old son was thought to be at risk because behind us there is a house with broken railings (which we’d already risk assessed) we have a local 3 storey house and our son has been brought up there. Politely felt obliged to explain ourselves. The road being closer was more of a concern. A couple decided to rudely inform us that we weren’t paying due attention to our son, that he was bored and bothersome. Things escalated when another couple decided to call us a***holes. The manager, clearly inexperienced, arrogant and having a bit of a need to express his ego, came and took my drink, threw it over the neighbour’s garden. The wife of another couple who also decided to include themselves told him to shut up. It was the most bizarre afternoon out and even now seems impossible to have happened. I have NEVER in my 42 years experienced this extent of unexpected and horrendous treatment, being sworn at, manhandled and my husband insulted about his weight. Quite laughably the best comedy show I’ve had for a while but won’t be returning.

Very nice very Welsh pub full of locals beer is good and has a nice atmosphere Welsh language spoken and English I felt welcome and had a nice time with friends and the locals the beer is good and the pub is clean the pub is small so can get crowded on the weekend everyone I meet there was friendly

Nice little pub. Came here for few drinks with the Mrs on Saturday night. Lovely service, forgot the name of the lady who served us but she made our evening a good one. Ale that i had which was butty bach. This went down too quick and too good! Will be back again before we leave from this beautiful place.

Went in my own and because I'm from London, they stopped speaking English and started speaking Welsh. Some of the locals outside weren't that friendly either.

Nice local real ales. No daily food at the moment but understand the kitchen will be open in the not too distant future. Worth a visit.

Glad it's finally been reopened in a way that will last for years! Lovely atmosphere, nice beer at good prices, lovely staff and the family who run it are fantastic and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Top pub, maybe the best in town!

Great pub selling the locally brewed Dolgellau beer. Family run and very friendly. Happy hour on Thurs and Fri from 7 till 8. A must to visit.

Very nice little pub. I visited on a chilly night and was welcomed with a log burning fire which made the place very cosy. The pub itself is small but that's part of the charm. The draught ales were very nice and was a lovely location for a few evening drinks.
