Food wonderful. Wine expensive. Gents toilet awful ! Has the manager ever seen this? Not much bigger than a phonebox.

Lovely atmospheric and spacious place to eat. We were in the bistro upstairs, surrounded by plants. Really great staff. Second time here and will gladly come back again :)

A meal for 4 old pals that went well but left the two guests who hadn't been before a bit underwhelmed. The main eating area was just too cold to be comfortable. Our table was changed (thank you) but those that ended up in our original seats kept their coats on all evening. The presentation of the food was excellent but the requirement to order the accompanying veg' as "Sides" is a business model that just feels like a scam and takes the edge of the experience. (£5 for 4 small slices of bread. Really?) The quality of the two steaks was OK but not up to the expectation, nor recent experiences elsewhere. The salmon was excellent. It was early Jan' so maybe getting into the swing of it after the holiday might be a reason for the lack of gloss on the evening but it felt more like complacency and living off the long established reputation. It' was a bit of a shame and the two newbies both said that they would not be in a hurry to return. The two of us who had fond memories of the place just felt a bit flat after.

Had booked a table for one, have never done this before. Food and service excellent, only comment would be food was a wee bit salty, and I over ordered. Probably my fault!!

One of my favourite restaurants for special occasions, I hosted my friends. We all had steak which was very average, I’m more than happy to pay the top price and normally get top food but not this time. The restaurant was very cold too. I’m soo sorry I’m not sure I can risk hosting for special occasions here again now which makes me sad.

It was so cold we had to dine with our coats on, even that was not enough. Adding insult to injury the AC came on, if that what it was, above us, creating a cold blast almost like a window was open. A really poor experience all round. Couldn't wait to finish and get out!. Won't be back in a hurry if that is the vibe now. Shame as we've had so many great times in the past!.

The service and food was excellent. The wine list was wonderful and the quality of food was great. It was quite cold in the restaurant and many guests including myself had to wear our coats inside as there didn’t seem to be any heating.

Places like this make food an out-of-this-world experience. The food is fantastic, the service is excellent and the place is bursting with personality. I definitely recommend it with closed eyes and it will be a great place to always return to!

This is our regular oasis, every Saturday when we do a wee shopping trip to the west end.

Visited the 'Chip' with friends fter being at a pantomime. For a midweek afternoon the bar area was fairly busy with a nice vibrant atmosphere. We were only on for drinks and managed to get a table in the additional seating area through the door from the bar which suited all of us as was ideal for a chat without being noisy. Being December Xmas lights / decorations added to the festive atmosphere. Overall a great mid-week afternoon with friends in a nice vibrant pub.

This Gem has nor ever lost its charm and the experience all round is second to none. Strongly recommend.

Hogmanay Dinner: Event rather spoiled by the excessive level of background noise - so much so that our party left before the cheese course much to our regret as we really enjoyed the food.

We stopped in to the upstairs bar for a couple of drinks before dinner. It was busy for the Friday after Christmas but the staff were excellent, served us quickly and we had a table with plenty of space.

Be careful not to leave at tip we didn’t notice the 10% additional service charge on the bill and ended up leaving a cash tip as well . No mention was made by the waiting staff that there was a presumably discretionary charge included in the bill and we ended up paying a massive tip This experience soured our night.

We have visted twice, and while we found the setting very quaint, and the food good, the service marred our visit. On the first visit we were seated in a cold drafty area. We aked if they had anything in a less chilly area but the waiter said this was not possible. Once we placed our order, we were forgotten. After putting on our coats and reading books for 15 minutes, I finally went to the waitress station to pay the bill. We were disappointed. On the second visit we again found the service to be a bit lacking in relation to the level of restaurant.

I love UB Chip & I haven’t been there for a few years - up until last night. We had a nice night & the staff were lovely. We also enjoyed the food. The issue we did have was the fish portion size. It was very small - like a starter size. I also had to pay for my vegetables on the side. We paid nearly £30 for a very small piece of fish & purée and then it cost more for veg. My partners starter (scallops) was just as small / a nibble. Such small fish portions. The pudding was more balanced in size and yummy. The cost was high for what we got. £162 (including service) for 1 x starter, 2 x main dishes, 1 x dessert. 2 x drinks. If we had 2 drinks each and we both had a starter and dessert I’d say it would have cost at least £220/40. That’s a lot. I worked here 35 years ago and I’m pleased to say the essence of its origins (at that time) is still there. The only thing I’d say about this is the lighting was far too bright (prob xmas lights but overhead lights were bright too) and there was a muffled radio / music sound that was really off putting. We let it go after a while. It was strange though - like a far away concert sound or a hissy radio sound with no clear reception. We tried to listen to make it out the song but it wasn’t possible. We did enjoy our gorgeous meal and the staff were a delight. 7 out of 10. With a few tweaks it could easily be 10 out of 10. Thanks for the yummy food. 🍸🫶

We have visited the Chip many times over the years and have always enjoyed the ambiance and the food. On our most recent visit we felt that although the food was good, the restaurant let itself down by a lack of attention to detail. The flowers on our table should have been thrown out several days before and the water in the vase was a dirty yellow. If this was the standard accepted in the dining area, hat about the standards in the rest of the establishment kitchen included? In summary,a once high flying Glasgow establishment brought down by a lack of attention to detail.

This was the New years Dinner Party at the chip. We enjoyed it.

Lovely location, friendly staff and tasty meals.

Whilst the food was of high quality,we felt let down by the lack of attention to detail. The flowers on our table were well past their best and should have been binned several days previously. The water in the vase was an extremely dirty yellow. Such a fundamental lack of attention to detail in what was once a classy restaurant is so disappointing.

It's nearly been 20 years since I last went, but still superb! Relaxed fine dining - great takes on staples using fantastic ingredients...

Wonderful. This was our first time and we loved it. We will definitely be back.

We had the tasting menu and prestige wine flight - it was a delicious treat; both the food and the wines. The service was also great and the restaurant beautiful. We were there early when it was quiet but the place was buzzing by the time we left. Would definitely come again.

Everything felt really special! The surroundings, service, atmosphere and of course the food was amazing! We really appreciated the fine flavours and attention to detail in the food details. outstanding evening in every respect, well done The Chip!

Forgotten we'd been here before and soon realised we'd made a good choice once again. Although the bar was busy the barman (Ryan H) ensured that customers were served in order with a polite, professional yet relaxed manner. Drinks were served promptly and presented well. A good, traditional pub which we will be happy to revisit on subsequent visits to Glasgow, therefore 'recommended'.

We got the tasting menu and it was absolutely gorgeous. The service was perfect and we had a wonderful time - thank you very much

I went here twice in one week and enjoyed sitting on the mezzanine-it feels like you're in a luxurious tree house! I know the menu changes but I could order 5 servings of the smoked haddock chowder and not get enough.

We do love the place but always feel that the vegetarian food, while always delicious, is always VERY expensive. Out of the 13 of us on this visit, 50% of us were vegetarian and we were struck by the fact that the vegetarian food is just as expensive as the meat. I can understand £30 for expensive meat and fish meals, but it seems a bit much for vegetables.

When I lived in the West End over 30 years ago I ate the Ubiquitous Chip on many special occasions. Yesterday was my first visit since then. It didn't disappoint, food, service, ambience all as good as I remember. We had the Festive menu and it was excellent. I can't recommend highly enough.

Went here for my graduation lunch and the food and atmosphere was amazing! We had 3 courses plus drinks and it was less than £50 a person. I would definitely recommend

I have been going to the "Chip", for 25 years and I would say this was one of the best meal I have had at this restaurant. Well done all in keeping up the standard.

We had our Christmas lunch at the Chip. Staff, food and general ambiance were very good. I would recomend the scallops with muscles and the aged steak. Not cheap, but for the experiance, value for money.

Wow. Buckle up for an amazing experience. This place has it all going on. The food is immense, the wine is well paired and the staff are knowledgeable without being pretentious or personality-less! We loved it here. The tasting menu is outstanding. We enjoyed it, start to finish. We opted for the standard wine flight and loved chatting to Mark (I think his name was...) in-between courses who really knew his stuff (not scripted either!) can't wait to go back!

Wouldn’t recommend. Everybody in our party found their food below the standard you would expect given the price (chewy venison, undercooked vegetables, dry dessert, unpleasantly thick pastry, etc.) At £70-80 a head, this was disappointing. Far better food at a lower price available nearby. Also, while the restaurant itself looks nice, there wasn’t enough space to sit comfortably around the table.

It's our 3rd visit to the "Chip" which is not bad considering we live 200 miles away. It has a unique atmosphere and is great for those special occasions. Menu is always interesting, the staff are attentive (and funny) and the food is just to die for. We like it.

This was the worst tasting menu we've ever had. It's not a restaurant that really understands the concept of a tasting menu. Our "sommelier" was in a state, slurring words and running his sleeve through our dishes. We missed one of the wine pairings when he disappeared and were not reimbursed for it. I offered thoughtful private feedback to the owner almost a month ago, and he couldn't even be bothered to respond, so that suggests that the service side of the restaurant is about the same quality as the food side. Truly disgraceful, the one "nice" meal of my life that I regret. Spare yourself the aggravation and disappointment. Glasgow has too many exemplary, even exceptional, restaurants to waste any time or money on this one, resting as it is on its once-upon-a-time-we-mattered laurels.

Just totally over priced, struggled to order food from the menu that I wanted. Paper menus, lacked our expectation. We were celebrating my daughters graduation and had a 'tiny' congratulations message on the table. ..nothing else. Really disappointed, would not have been my choice, but my daughter chose restaurant going on past reputation, she wanted this for her special day. Overall a huge disappointment for the price

the security company that they use (Professional Security) scam their guards. I am owed £600 and now they are ignoring me!

It was a graduation dinner and surprisingly we all opted for the turkey dinner of the Xmas menu which we couldn’t fault Young waitress that served us was great and couldn’t fault the other staff

Packed full of friendly locals, I enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine in the small ground floor bar. Fab staff too, a stalwart of the local hospitality scene. Well worth visiting!

For my birthday night, we went to this restaurant. The atmosphere was beautiful, and the vibe was great. The staff kindly helped us choose our dishes. The appetizer was very delicious, and the main course was good too, though cutting the steak was a bit difficult as it had gotten cold. The dinner for two, including a glass of wine and two cocktails, came to £150 altogether!!

Why no Michelin star??? We had a fabulous meal last night, and were treated wonderfully. We had the tasting menu, and every course was exceptional. The presentation was first class, the descriptions by the staff were excellent and the food divine. As I say, why the Chip doesn’t have one or more Michelin Stars is beyond me.

We had a really fantastic and flavourful meal in ‘The Chip’ last night. The ambiance of this fine restaurant is second to none and the staff couldn’t be more helpful and attentive. Special mention to Mark for making our evening really memorable! I would urge anyone to give this institution a try, if you do, please be sure to order one of the best haggis dishes in Scotland.

We booked the tasting menu (regular and vegetarian) the meal was phenomenal. Staff were attentive and very friendly. Cocktails were excellent. The restaurant was kind enough to alter one of a dish on the vegetarian tasting menu to remove mushrooms after I mentioned I would skip that course due to an intolerance. Already planning a return visit.

Celebrated my 70th Birthday and we all loved it. The staff, the atmosphere and the food was exceptional. Thank you all for making it an unforgettable brilliant night.

Visited the Chip last night for the first time in ages and as per previous visits was not disappointed. Great atmosphere, service and food! This is a must visit if you've never been or are visiting Glasgow.

Amazing meal, wonderful staff, quirky place

Lovely experience all around. One of the best meals I have had this year. Only suggestion is that we ordered sparkling water for the table—3 diners—but they only brought one bottle which was never replaced (or offered to be replaced) during the meal. Perhaps they could have asked if we would prefer 1 or 2 bottles since there were 3 of us and that was the only beverage being consumed by 2 people in our party.

I came here for a celebratory dinner, and we tried their tasting menu! It was an incredible experience; each course was flavorful and uniquely done. I had the best duck of my life here! The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were so kind. Don't visit Glasgow without stopping here!

Menu is lacking in Seafood since my visit years ago. I remember lobster and langoustines from days gone by.

First time I'd been for a meal since Greene King took over. Was as lovely as I remember. Staff friendly and helpful from moment we arrived. Food excellent. There was one issue with one of mains. It was dealt with quickly and without question, and issue reflected in bill. Otherwise everything perfect and we will definitely be back. Great value.

Very over rated and very over priced ,would not recommend this to anyone. The portions sizes weren't great.

Found it last minute but what an amazing place

I dined at UC on a Friday with my wife. First time there for ages. Food and service both excellent. Pace of service was particularly good. Only downside was that the restaurant wasnt busier. More people need to get out and support this Glasgow institution!

Wanted to say Thank you for a lovely evening. I’d booked to celebrate my daughter’s 30th birthday. Service and food was brilliant. The wine guy was very good and was like getting a mini wine info session with each wine pairing. Thank you for making a lovely evening memorable!

This is a beautiful restaurant, the setting is lovely with lots of plants, fairy lights and a pond. We had the vegetarian tasting menu and every dish was delicious. There was plenty of time between each dish which was nice

Great place, didn't have food this time. Really liked it. Excellent service and interesting place. I love thistly cross so that was a rare treat.

Upstairs brasserie was cold really cold so much so that I could feel the draughty down my neck so we had to move tables. Haggis neeps and tatties whilst tasty and plentiful wasn’t much warmer than the venue. Tepid and clearly had been sitting under heating lamps. Whatever happened to being served piping hot food? Such an average experience in what once was an absolute destination for us. Disappointing the website doesn’t offer a contact us to share experience.

Came here for a working dinner on a recommendation, wasn’t disappointed! The venue itself is down a side alley but opens into a nice cobbled street with lots of other bars etc in the area. Inside it’s really quite large and over a couple of levels - the menu has all the food choices you could want and were well priced. We had the sharer board was more than enough for 4 for a starter, not a proper picture of that, we all dived in! The burgers were very good - staff super helpful and friendly Would recommend and come back

Booked for a small family celebration- 6 of us. The online system was easy to use. We turned up on time to find the restaurant quiet , something we’d not experience in the chip before. The service was slow and we were often left waiting for drinks etc.the menu wasn’t great and the mains were such we were all driven to take steak! No chips on the menu however we requested some as the table next to us we’re enjoying some - but were told no. The accompanying options were weird to have with a steak nevertheless the steaks were well cooked. We had wine which was nice. The starters were ok and met with mixed reviews- the best was the haggis! I took scallops - the two had caught in the pan but were edible , not quite what I’d hoped for. The dessert selection was again ok I had the praline which was lovely but apple brioche did not go down well. In terms of atmosphere well tbh sadly, there was as none- difficulty with the background music and this didn’t help. It may have been a bad day/time for the restaurant (6pm Sunday) but as a result our celebration fell a bit flat.

Great venue for a wedding. had a super day, organisation by staff very good. Canapé s and food very good. Music provided was very selective and enjoyable.

A wonderful evening - delicious food, great service and fantastic ambience at this iconic Glasgow venue.

It was my partner's bday, and we didn't know what to expect. All the staff was absolutely friendly and the food was full of flavour. We had the taster menu and the vegetarian menu, and the way the courses were presented and the portions were completely satisfactory. Highly recommended. No wonder why it appears in every guide of Glasgow as a must-visit.

We chose The Ubiquitous Chip as the venue to celebrate a milestone birthday - 80th to be precise. Alas, from the get-go our experience was tainted by poor service and disappointing food. From the start, our booking was haphazardly handled and we were booked into the wrong restaurant. Thankfully we caught that before we arrived. This would have been a minor hiccup if only the rest of our experience was better - sadly it was not. What used to be a place known for attentive staff, great atmosphere, and super food was marred by their apparent nonchalance towards their customers that day. We were ignored on arrival and had to locate our own table, and the day continued with a lack of service. Requests were ignored, wrong drinks were served, and even when they did arrive, it was at an abysmally slow pace. The disproportion between the high price we were paying and the level of service received was starkly noticeable. The icing on the not-so-tasty cake was the food. Our hopes of savouring a sumptuous meal were utterly dashed as what we got were overpriced dishes that were at best average. To say that we were disappointed would be putting it lightly - the day turned out to be a let-down of epic proportions. It is a real shame to see such a once-beloved institution lose its charm and appeal. We sincerely hope that The Ubiquitous Chip can recapture the qualities that once made it a locale of choice for many.

32 years after my first visit, still the best restaurant in Glasgow.

We had the taster menu - the food was great, although the pigeon was a little over. However, it took 3.5 hours to get through the menu even though only 7 course, including a 15+ minute wait for coffee at the end… Would I go again? Yes, but would hope for faster service from the kitchen…

Absolutely delicious! I went with a bunch of small plates and everything was great. Can't wait to go back to try more things.

Spent an evening here celebrating my son’s birthday. Food was overpriced, had to order additional side dishes as minimal main course. Service poor, not attentive and not offered coffee/tea and no decaf options on coffee. On checking the bill we had been charged for someone else’s desserts. Only positive was the ambience and not too noisy. I just expected a better experience in this well known restaurant. I won’t be back.

Lovely cosy little pub with lots of charm even fresh flowers on every table . Service was excellent the young man behind the bar had excellent manners and knew his stuff . Definitely will be returning here
