Was a terrific menu. I could’ve ordered just about anything. And we would’ve enjoyed the them all. My wife and I had three appetizers and one entrée. All were terrific. We Both appreciate good food and service at fair prices, and this rang the bell. One of the best menus I’ve ever seen, and the prices were extremely reasonable

Cute atmosphere, super friendly staff and delicious food and cocktails. We almost walked past thinking inside would be small, but there was ample seating, with two separate dining areas. We ate upstairs and the laksa was sensational!

The setting of this little gem is stunning and the building’s history along with the murals make it a one of a kind space. The food was exceptional from the menu through to the presentation and quality of the food served we could not fault it. The cherry on the cake are the staff who are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Our wonderful waitress, Oriana was so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. This place is an absolute must if you’re in Glasgow and we feel lucky to have experienced it. Thank you 😊

Turned up without a reservation but no problem getting a table. French onion soup was quite tasty, with big chunky cheesy bread. But boiling hot, I had to wait 20m before I could finish it. Haggis, neeps, tatties were good, pretty classic, with a nice sauce

Absolutely stunning experience from start to finish. The service was attentive without being overbearing, the food was exceptional (hands down the best Sunday roast I’ve had!), and the venue itself is just gorgeous. Cuando mi amigo y yo estábamos buscando un lugar al que ir, después de que un restaurante de lujo me hubiera rechazado por tener la osadía de ser vegetariano, descubrimos que el Chip tenía un menú degustación, y aunque precioso, estaba en nuestra gama, así que decidimos darle una oportunidad. Y chico, me alegro de haberlo hecho. Revisaron cuando nos sentamos sobre alergias y también adaptaron felizmente un plato porque simplemente no me gusta el sabor del huevo (ese plato terminó siendo mi favorito de la noche). Con demasiada frecuencia, ser vegetariano se siente como si fueras un pensamiento secundario. Ciertamente no sentí eso aquí. El menú fue cuidadosamente cuidado y variado, desde la trompeta de apertura hasta el pastel de chocolate y stout de cierre. Era similar al menú más carnoso de mi amigo, pero adaptado con cuidado, y lo agradezco. No lo tenía, pero me alegró ver que tenían un menú vegano también. El lugar definitivamente no es barato, llegando a casi el doble del precio del cercano Six By Nico. A real Glasgow institution. Definitely one of the city’s most unique and beautiful restaurants with a maze of rooms and bars to chose from over 3 floors, including a hidden gem of a rooftop beer garden. The service is fantastic and the food is great. I had the Jerusalem artichokes with pickled walnuts and beetroot. We also tried the side salad and roasted harissa carrots. Downstairs there is an a la carte and also tasting menu for finer dining. Upstairs is a more middle-range brasserie.

Dicho esto, fuimos un sábado por la noche y tuvimos una comida encantadora. Todo lo que pedimos era bueno, el servicio es muy bueno, eficiente y atento. Me gustó el hecho de que el lugar estaba lleno de grupos familiares, muchas generaciones diferentes, además de parejas y grupos de amigos grandes, por lo que parece atraer a una amplia clientela. This was the first time I have been disappointed with going to the chip. I believe it is under new ownership but has gone downhill. The food was tasty but 2 scallops for £16 - really? The service was poor. Very slow. There was hardly anyone is restaurant. Staff on their phones. We didn’t get the second bread we ordered. Dessert average. The petit four was stale. The kids menu was fairly priced and they seemed to enjoy theirs but had to wait a long time to get their mains. Won’t be rushing back!

We had a lovely, memorable family birthday celebration in the Ubiquitous Chip. All the staff were polite, friendly, professional, accommodating and helpful, in a busy environment. The food was delicious, if at the higher end of cost.. as expected for an occasional special treat.

Great food! Service a little slow.

Got the venison burger and it was so good I literally said "wow" on first bite. Most everything else was excellent too. Ordered a martini and the staff was super apologetic not to have olives, but it was still a lovely drink. The burger came with unexpected chips, and the wine was excellent, and it's a nice place with good atmosphere and terrific service. Highly recommended.

My favourite place I ate during my stay in Glasgow. The staff were accommodating in helping me select the most comfortable seat. The food was delicious and the decor inside is mesmerising - like a forest. I’d recommend the Sunday roast dinner. 5/5

Had a great lunch. The service from Niamh & the tall Manager ((didn’t get their name) was excellent: Very attentive yet not intrusive. We had intended to have a mixture of Vegan/Vegetarian Taster Menus & a regular Menu, however we were unaware that the Taster element would take up to 3 1/2 hrs. I had not seen this on your website and we didn’t have that amount of time, therefore we ate off of the main menu: Food was excellent.

Wonderful! Ubiquitous Chip ensured my daughter had a lovely birthday supper. At the table was a birthday greeting card when we arrived, and they went to great lengths to ensure she was happy with her food and drink. The food was fabulous, excellent quality, delicious flavours. Highly recommend.

No había estado en el lugar durante varios años y estaba ligeramente decepcionado. El entorno de la cervecería era agradable y agradable para las camareras, pero la comida era abrumadora. We booked for Sunday Lunch but was told only 2 portions left. Service was very slow with a huge wait between courses. Food was average. Atmosphere was non existent.

Fabulous Sunday lunch at the chip. Lots of great food on the menu. The staff made sure our family gathering was a great experience. Restaurant was very busy, but there were no delays in our service. Wine and drinks selections were great too.

The food was very nice, but we felt it was a little overpriced - it's Glasgow, not London. The wine was absolutely fantastic, and our waiter really knowledgeable, also not snobbish when we set a price range. You could spend thousands, and none of it was cheap, but neither did it taste cheap! However, one thing we (ironically) could not have: the clearly not so ubiquitous chip. We had a great steak, and all you want is some simple carbs and veg. But everything came with its own sauce or flavouring - annoying when you've paid good money for a sauce with the steak. Why then serve potatoes with a pesto (?) and soured cream? Sometimes less is more.

Our Sunday Roast was absolutely delicious. The quality of the beef was unbelievable. I found the red wine jus, a little too rich but was still enjoyable! Staff were super helpful and kind. Would definitely recommend

We had the tasting menu- really delicious. Staff really knowledgeable about all the dishes and wine pairings. Everything served at a relaxed pace. Just a fantastic evening.

3 hour reservation and we barely managed to complete our mains. 7.30 to 10.30. I had a taxi booked for 10.30 back to Loch Lomond so we didn’t have time for coffee or dessert. Service was unbelievably slow. So disappointing as we had taken guests from London. Food was nice but not worth the dreadful service. 3 star because the food was nice

Our dinner was excellent and the service was first class. However it is cold so wrap up. I spent most of the evening in my jacket.

Although a little early we were still welcomed and shown to our table. Very helpful and friendly and the service was commendable as was our lunch.

Great food and service, but restaurant felt a little tired. Our table was booked for 7pm on Saturday evening, but it felt a little bit like a cafe, with too bright lighting. We did ask if the lights could be dimmed, and the staff member kindly obliged, and all of a sudden the atmosphere felt a little more cosy.

We "dined" at this restaurant on Christmas Eve, 2024. It was a total waste of time and money. We got sucked into their 3-course Christmas lunch for ONLY $45 UK pound per person. The food was average at best. Not kidding, the chips (aka: fries) we got at the Blue Lagoon on Boxing Day were better than anything we were served at UC. More disappointing was the terrible service. No doubt, the person who waited on us did not want to be there on Christmas Eve. To add further insult, they tacked an automatic 10% tip onto our bill. Four at the table. We did not order any appetizers. We each had one drink. The total came to $233 UK pounds (almost $300 USD). Our time at UC ruined my Christmas Eve. Terrible! Why am I just now sending this review? After we got back to our home, I tried to connect with UC management to share my feelings. They do not have a way to connect via their website. I sent a message thru their reservation link, and requested that someone respond to my e-mail. No response. Apparently, they just don't care. We have been to Scotland 6 times in the past 3 years. We have eaten at many fine restaurants, and enjoyed many wonderful meals during our visits. No at this place! Absolutely the worst meal at the highest prices we have ever experienced in Scotland. Buyers Beware.

Ok… needs a revamp…. Across the room, food and service. 1. Reduce the lighting it’s too bright 2. Revamp the side area away from the courtyard it doesn’t work now 3 the menu is too small and £35 for a sirloin steak which was not well presented will not bring people back 4 bring back the bread you used up do 5 let’s have white table cloths please 6 it’s either not enough staff or they are not organised properly 7 your competing with crabshack, the ivy etc and your coming off worse so get your thinking caps on 8 can we have mashed turnip for the haggis ! This is all said to try and help

A quick visit as a walk in. Wine was beautiful to wash down the good food provided. Blown away with the interior as it didn't look that interesting from the outside. Busy for the time day but staff were efficient and friendly which added to our experience

Walked out disappointed. We got married here and haven't been since. My wife contacted you to let you know it was a special birthday and it felt like you guys didn't care. Hannah and your Sommelier seemed really engaging. Waiting times for ordering mains, coffees and no fuss just made us walk out feeling why did we spend a small fortune here years ago. Lucky the pub opposite had great music. Hope you reply to this one, cause that will help confirm our thoughts.

I recently visited the Ubiquitous Chip (upstairs bar) with my friends, and unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. Despite the reputation and being relatively regularly as live close, we encountered unwelcome behaviour that left us feeling very uncomfortable and unwelcome. We were shouted at from behind the bar while we were all sat at a table, apparently our Spanish gay friend was laughing too loud. We were a large gay group, and the pub was busy and noisy so while a laugh might be loud it is a Friday Night in busy pub, but we did take note of what was said, although not entirely happy with how it was relayed to us we were more alert about being loud. This then happen a second time and our friend wasn’t even there at this point, we were not that loud, to be singled out like this once is horrible, and then twice is on! We gather as large group of gay men we are not welcome in this bar, and it felt horrible, so unwelcome and immediately left/drinks unfinished. Everyone can make their own mind up, but I would discourage others from visiting this venue, genuinely don’t take offence easy this really made all of us feel horrible. Enjoyed the rest of our night at another bar, much prefer to spend our money in a venue that doesn’t discriminate…

It's a while since we've been to The Chip so great to see it's still a great experience under its new owners. As it was Burns Night we all had the haggis which was so tasty and moist. For mains, three of us opted for cod with bordelaise sauce and the other had duck. We weren't sure how a red wine sauce would go with a white fish, but it worked! Absolutely delicious and the fish was so fresh. Lovely negronis before dinner and a very nice Viognier to accompany dinner both hit the spot. Very nice service too. The night was a great success.

Lovely atmospheric and spacious place to eat. We were in the bistro upstairs, surrounded by plants. Really great staff. Second time here and will gladly come back again :)

A meal for 4 old pals that went well but left the two guests who hadn't been before a bit underwhelmed. The main eating area was just too cold to be comfortable. Our table was changed (thank you) but those that ended up in our original seats kept their coats on all evening. The presentation of the food was excellent but the requirement to order the accompanying veg' as "Sides" is a business model that just feels like a scam and takes the edge of the experience. (£5 for 4 small slices of bread. Really?) The quality of the two steaks was OK but not up to the expectation, nor recent experiences elsewhere. The salmon was excellent. It was early Jan' so maybe getting into the swing of it after the holiday might be a reason for the lack of gloss on the evening but it felt more like complacency and living off the long established reputation. It' was a bit of a shame and the two newbies both said that they would not be in a hurry to return. The two of us who had fond memories of the place just felt a bit flat after.

Had booked a table for one, have never done this before. Food and service excellent, only comment would be food was a wee bit salty, and I over ordered. Probably my fault!!

One of my favourite restaurants for special occasions, I hosted my friends. We all had steak which was very average, I’m more than happy to pay the top price and normally get top food but not this time. The restaurant was very cold too. I’m soo sorry I’m not sure I can risk hosting for special occasions here again now which makes me sad.

It was so cold we had to dine with our coats on, even that was not enough. Adding insult to injury the AC came on, if that what it was, above us, creating a cold blast almost like a window was open. A really poor experience all round. Couldn't wait to finish and get out!. Won't be back in a hurry if that is the vibe now. Shame as we've had so many great times in the past!.

The service and food was excellent. The wine list was wonderful and the quality of food was great. It was quite cold in the restaurant and many guests including myself had to wear our coats inside as there didn’t seem to be any heating.

Places like this make food an out-of-this-world experience. The food is fantastic, the service is excellent and the place is bursting with personality. I definitely recommend it with closed eyes and it will be a great place to always return to!

Visited the 'Chip' with friends fter being at a pantomime. For a midweek afternoon the bar area was fairly busy with a nice vibrant atmosphere. We were only on for drinks and managed to get a table in the additional seating area through the door from the bar which suited all of us as was ideal for a chat without being noisy. Being December Xmas lights / decorations added to the festive atmosphere. Overall a great mid-week afternoon with friends in a nice vibrant pub.

Hogmanay Dinner: Event rather spoiled by the excessive level of background noise - so much so that our party left before the cheese course much to our regret as we really enjoyed the food.

Be careful not to leave at tip we didn’t notice the 10% additional service charge on the bill and ended up leaving a cash tip as well . No mention was made by the waiting staff that there was a presumably discretionary charge included in the bill and we ended up paying a massive tip This experience soured our night.

We stopped in to the upstairs bar for a couple of drinks before dinner. It was busy for the Friday after Christmas but the staff were excellent, served us quickly and we had a table with plenty of space.

We have visted twice, and while we found the setting very quaint, and the food good, the service marred our visit. On the first visit we were seated in a cold drafty area. We aked if they had anything in a less chilly area but the waiter said this was not possible. Once we placed our order, we were forgotten. After putting on our coats and reading books for 15 minutes, I finally went to the waitress station to pay the bill. We were disappointed. On the second visit we again found the service to be a bit lacking in relation to the level of restaurant.

I love UB Chip & I haven’t been there for a few years - up until last night. We had a nice night & the staff were lovely. We also enjoyed the food. The issue we did have was the fish portion size. It was very small - like a starter size. I also had to pay for my vegetables on the side. We paid nearly £30 for a very small piece of fish & purée and then it cost more for veg. My partners starter (scallops) was just as small / a nibble. Such small fish portions. The pudding was more balanced in size and yummy. The cost was high for what we got. £162 (including service) for 1 x starter, 2 x main dishes, 1 x dessert. 2 x drinks. If we had 2 drinks each and we both had a starter and dessert I’d say it would have cost at least £220/40. That’s a lot. I worked here 35 years ago and I’m pleased to say the essence of its origins (at that time) is still there. The only thing I’d say about this is the lighting was far too bright (prob xmas lights but overhead lights were bright too) and there was a muffled radio / music sound that was really off putting. We let it go after a while. It was strange though - like a far away concert sound or a hissy radio sound with no clear reception. We tried to listen to make it out the song but it wasn’t possible. We did enjoy our gorgeous meal and the staff were a delight. 7 out of 10. With a few tweaks it could easily be 10 out of 10. Thanks for the yummy food. 🍸🫶

We have visited the Chip many times over the years and have always enjoyed the ambiance and the food. On our most recent visit we felt that although the food was good, the restaurant let itself down by a lack of attention to detail. The flowers on our table should have been thrown out several days before and the water in the vase was a dirty yellow. If this was the standard accepted in the dining area, hat about the standards in the rest of the establishment kitchen included? In summary,a once high flying Glasgow establishment brought down by a lack of attention to detail.

This was the New years Dinner Party at the chip. We enjoyed it.

Whilst the food was of high quality,we felt let down by the lack of attention to detail. The flowers on our table were well past their best and should have been binned several days previously. The water in the vase was an extremely dirty yellow. Such a fundamental lack of attention to detail in what was once a classy restaurant is so disappointing.

We had the tasting menu and prestige wine flight - it was a delicious treat; both the food and the wines. The service was also great and the restaurant beautiful. We were there early when it was quiet but the place was buzzing by the time we left. Would definitely come again.

Forgotten we'd been here before and soon realised we'd made a good choice once again. Although the bar was busy the barman (Ryan H) ensured that customers were served in order with a polite, professional yet relaxed manner. Drinks were served promptly and presented well. A good, traditional pub which we will be happy to revisit on subsequent visits to Glasgow, therefore 'recommended'.

First class - good to know that some things don't change

I went here twice in one week and enjoyed sitting on the mezzanine-it feels like you're in a luxurious tree house! I know the menu changes but I could order 5 servings of the smoked haddock chowder and not get enough.

We do love the place but always feel that the vegetarian food, while always delicious, is always VERY expensive. Out of the 13 of us on this visit, 50% of us were vegetarian and we were struck by the fact that the vegetarian food is just as expensive as the meat. I can understand £30 for expensive meat and fish meals, but it seems a bit much for vegetables.

First time there, it is huge inside

When I lived in the West End over 30 years ago I ate the Ubiquitous Chip on many special occasions. Yesterday was my first visit since then. It didn't disappoint, food, service, ambience all as good as I remember. We had the Festive menu and it was excellent. I can't recommend highly enough.
