Love this bar on Baker Street! Great atmosphere love the decor and the quirkiness of the bar. Great service and can't wait to return

Really nice place with friendly staff. Shame they didn't have dark beer but the Belgium Blue was excellent.

A difficult one, beer well kept but wasn’t to our taste. The building most definitely was and is very interesting so for me 3 for the beer (personal taste as it was served/kept well) 5 for the building, hence a 4 overall.

I visited this lovely real ale pub.With three friends the pub manager Katie was very friendly and lit the fire for us.We got a three different ales on a board thirds of pints of some of the selection available. We stayed for longer than we scheduled would recommend this pub and friendly staff.

A great little micro-pub, where I enjoyed a few ales with pals before Albion's game against Boro'. It's a terraced house, which has been converted, with much expense spared into a pub. No frills but an authentic charm, good beer and it being a Saturday, no hot food but a range of really good, cold pies. The staff were welcoming and friendly, as were the locals.Some top choons were on in the background too. Recommended. Oh, we won 1-0.

Love this little micro bar on Baker St Middlesbrough. Being from central Middlesbrough the inside is so much like the little terraced house I grew up in and so full of character. The bar itself doesn't disappoint, pleasant staff, great range of drinks.

its an old street house so a few small rooms, and as its up North people are happy to chat to you, only been during the day, but I know they have live music on some evenings, I have passed it a few times at night and the music sounded like Boom Boom music - not my taste, but give it a good

Top notch beers - well looked after ales (and I tried 5 different beers/ciders). Friendly and knowledgeable staff - especially the manageress. Great atmosphere and good background music played at reasonable level.

A first time here for me. Beam Mill dark stout was an excellent choice like a lighter Guinness/ Mackeson hybrid, very nice. Sunday evening and place is full Of people attending the stand up comedy taking place on the first floor for £4 doesn’t seem too bad.

We recently visited this place during a trip to Middlesbrough, we had never been in before so didn't know what to expect. However we were so impressed with it. The staff were friendly, the drinks were reasonably priced and the decor was fabulous.... (Given a bit of a spooky touch for Halloween, which looked great!). We will definitely be back to this rare find!

Been here 5 minutes and I love it! Bar staff are lovely, house/pub is awesome and the cider is amazing! I never drink “flat cider” but the cherry bakewell one is to die for and the toffee apple ones lovely too! Def would be my local if I lived here!

Great little pub. Friendly staff and clientele. My partner was happy with the good choice of beers. Wish they did wine by the 125 measure glass rather than the 175 bottles tho.

Different descent beers lagers and ciders on draught but also some really tasty gins. Toni managing the place and is doing well. Worth a visit when in town

Beware musicians, last night act was short changed because THE VENUE's pa system wasn't working very well - live act in one room with audience and 2nd speakers in another room. Guess which one's weren't working, and they then short paid the guy cos the people in his room couldn't hear him! FFS - make sure you have your fee in writing, they will have to pay in full, be it fair and square at the end of the gig, or via Equity, or the local Small Claims Court !

visited with a party of six great experience, really busy but that didn't affect service, pleasant staff will visit again

Clearly the micropub concept has a strong hold around here. A good atmosphere but for me more chemistry set microbrewery ale. Gin seems popular for a reason!

This is a real Ale house in a spacious setting. Has a beer Keller feel to the place with large wooden tables. Good atmosphere and friendly staff, woudl recommend if you are in the Boro that you call in this place, situated right in the heart of the city 7 next to plenty of other ale houses

Lovely Atmosphere in there, live music, there for about three hours (evening) excellent selection of peculiar draft beer and cider.. very cosy, great for a night out.

A very, very quiet lunchtime so therefore not much atmosphere and yet no effort on behalf of the staff to make you feel welcome. Only stayed for one pint as the beer was not the best, nor cheap and there are better places to spend your money on a cold dark January afternoon! That said, I would visit again because we have had better experiences here in the past and this was probably a 'one off'.

Two dodgy pints, first flat then wanted to charge more for a different drink. Left and went elsewhere. Not sure what was stuck to the glass / floating around in the second flat pint! Definitely wast spending another penny. Told me I had to wait for manager didn’t have time when friends are waiting.

Stopped in for a quick one before heading home, great decor and a bloody good pint of Jaipur. Would return!

Have started to visit this pub as near to work. Always made to feel welcome and the food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend you go. Have also visited with family and we have all enjoyed the experience

Me he bebido aquí en numerosas ocasiones y siempre encontramos el personal amable, servicial y feliz cuando probando nuevas favorita. Siempre hay un buen ambiente y como bares de micro que lleva el resurgimiento de su ir en Middlesbrough. En mi última visita (Puente de Mayo) con mi otra mitad probamos algo de comida del menú. Tuve el huevo whisky con papas fritas y mi esposa tenía la cerveza y papas fritas de bacalao que disfrutamos muchísimo.

Parado por un poco de comida en un día feriado el lunes. El personal era muy amable y acogedor. El chef era muy complaciente - la comida estaba increíble! Sin duda llamar de nuevo. Necesidad de probar sus almuerzos de domingo!

En una noche regular para bebidas y un ambiente fantástico. Visitamos el sábado a la hora del almuerzo para comer un bocado. Tuvimos el pan plano y pizza hot dog gourmet con una pinta de patatas fritas triple preparado. Las comidas eran recién preparada, sabrosa y excelente relación calidad-precio en alrededor de 10 libras. Servicio amable. Altamente recomendado

Este es un gran lugar para unas cervezas de artesanías. En una ciudad que tiene muchas bares disfrute de la misma cerveza, la tenebrosa p es una luz brillante para los amantes de la cerveza artesanal. El lugar está construido en una antigua horas, con el bar en una habitación y estar en otros. El personal es super amable y experto en la cerveza que venden. Si no estás en grandes hoteles comerciales, este es el lugar para ti. Altamente recomendado

Went for lunch today. Fish & chips are to die for! Pork pie was delicious too. The staff went above & beyond for us. We've visited quite a few times now & just can't fault the place. Thanks again.

We visited yesterday afternoon and for the third time, where very disappointed with the range of beers, in fact, I can't remember finding a beer to our taste here. We tried the only pale beer on offer and more out of embarrassment, ordered 2 halves. This was met with silence from bar staff, who didn't say another word once I asked for halves, we won't be back as there is a much more friendly bar round the corner with a massive range to choose from.

Back again for a couple of beers before we headed out to try and find somewhere to eat. Great range of beers that will suit all tastes. The mix of clientele is really varied so no one should feel out of place. Really good atmosphere for what still feels like some ones front room. Well worth a visit as you explore Baker and Bedford Street.

There are new micro-pubs springing up everywhere in and around Baker Street but The Twisted Lip was one of the best. Lots of craft beers to choose from and the home made Scotch egg and triple cooked chips was superb. Friendly host too!

Excellent bar with lots of history and also quirky features. Plenty of choice of drinks and ales. Only downside was it was very cold, this won't stop me from returning again.

called in for early tea time treat, great welcome as soon as we walked in, chose a platter of continental meats , olives and bread to share, presentation was superb and quality excellent, served with a smile from a young lady who went that extra mile, thank you all. Great bric a brac by the way.

1st visit so didn't know what to expect. Really different atmosphere from a normal pub but a good selection of ales and drinks in a nice environment. Spacious with lots of room's, food also available but I didn't try.

A nice not-so-micro-pub in the recently refurbished Baker Street area. It's good to see this sort of place doing well in Boro, the town is definately on the up.

My wife and I were enjoying an evening out in Middlesbrough and we decided to pop into one of Baker streets most popular bars, the twisted lip. A double fronted aspect looks out onto the road with a bar at the back, plus additional seating to the dear in a small "snug". We ordered drinks from their trendy looking selection, I had a Camden Hells Lager while my wife had a medium sized glass of white wine. While this is a place clearly popular with hip locals, it was a bit rich for our blood with our two drinks coming to over £8. We also needed to sit in the snug owing to the other seating being occupied, and this put us opposite the rear door to what looked like an outside courtyard for smokers, which unfortunately was in frequent use. Overall it was still a good experience, and we would recommend the twisted lip as part of any tour of Middlesborough's watering holes.

Great to see this type of bar doing well in Boro town centre.Always have friendly staff and patrons who are well educated in the ales they have in the bar.

Been here a few times over the summer, the bar has an old ale house style which is great with excellent ales some brewed in the local area, if I lived in Boro it would definitely be my local bar

It feels like something from Harry Potter in here and i have to say, i love it!!!!!! The Twisted Lip is a fantastic place for food, drinks and great company. Its easy to get to and the place if full of fantastic nooks and cranies. Wine and Beer are particular on point! Looking forward to a trip back here

Once in we received a very nice welcome from the guy behind the bar. He was very pleasant. A good choice of drinks and a decent food menu on offer. One of the bigger(?) micro pubs in the town centre and very nice too. Certainly worth a visit if you are in the town centre.

If you love to try a range of different ales and lagers in a great atmosphere then this is a place for you.I am on a mission now to try all the pubs in the Baker St/Bedford St area, this is the third one and definitely one to return to before either another Boro match or when in town.

The place is so quirky which really adds to the experience. The staff were great, the beer spot on and the surroundings really interesting. Will be heading here again when next in town.

Been here a few times and have always had a good time. The staff are pleasant and serve up a decent range of beers that are always changing so there is something new to try each time you come here ! The place is a little odd as you can still tell that it is two houses knocked together. A really good mix of different people, of different ages and styles. Worth trying out !

I don't like pubs. I loved The Twisted Lip. Found by accident. It's a miniature installation piece of a drinkery. Great food and drink menus. Quirky and cool. Well done all concerned. Victuallers and Town Council note: up with this sort of thing!

Great beer, lovely atmosphere at the weekend and very friendly place for supporters (home and away) to drink before the game. About 20 mins walk to the stadium. But this is a place to go out of your way to visit even if you aren't going to the football.

This is an odd pub as it comprises two houses that have been made into a pub so it does feel like you are in someone front room. The selection of beers is very good and the service is always pleasant. There is a real mix of customers from young through to old.

Great little quirky place popped in for a sandwhich and my partner had the scotch egg both with gorgeous beer batter d chips! Great friendly staff! Will return!

A great little pub in a converted house. It is small and you definitely get 'up close and personal' with other drinkers. If visiting on match day, you would need to get their early. There is s great room just past the bar that would be perfect if there were a few of you. On the day we visited, the weather was great. There is a tiny beer garden that is cosy and before you know it you are chatting away to those around you. Good service, good choice of beers and a fantastic atmosphere - what more could you want.

The whole Baker/Bedford street thing is working really well. The Twisted Lip is well worth a visit as the beers are really good and the pricing is high but not excessive. It does feel like you are in a front room but it is a converted house. The clientele is mixed so most people will not feel out of place.

I've visited the Twisted Lip many times at various times on various days. The food is always fantastic. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgable. The pub always has a great atmosphere whether it's a busy weekend night or you just after a quiet pint and bite to eat during the day. Excellent music policy. Monday night secret cinema club is a great Monday night out. Wide choice of beers, spirits etc

It's good, the drink selection is excellent and staff always willing to help. I preferred it when it was less busy but you can't blame the place for wanting to make money! Highly recommend, just not on a Saturday night. Like most micropubs the prices are high, but its worth it.

visited for the first time when the orange pip market was on, what an amazing little mirco pub, the staff are lovely. the drinks are very well priced. I been back 3 times since the first visit. its lovely not to be in the usual beer swilling loud pubs.

Popped in for a pint of great beer with my wife. It does feel like you are in some one front room but that is part of the charm. Lots of different beers to pick from so there should be something to your liking. Good mix of older and younger folk.Lots of places to eat on Bedford street so well worth a visit.

Called in Saturday whilst visiting Street market, place was heaving (The Lip) and great to see people in line happily waiting to be served, had "Black Pudding Scotch Egg" it was fab to say the least my friend had a platter of Italian ham and salad, looked good too, Pleased to see they have extended food service to Saturday's

This was our first visit to Middlesborough and after initially being disappointed with the real ale choice in the pubs we stumbled across this area of town with by far the best places.Excellent choice of Ales and ciders and a unique little place.Will definitely be visiting again when in the area.

Visited the twisted lip in middlesbrough on bank holiday sunday. Excellent niche pub. Clientele friendly and welcoming. If unsure about what to buy,tasters are encouraged and given. If you like pubs that offer something different then you will love the twisted lip on Baker street.

Visited on Saturday as was attending the orange pip market, only wanted a coke and a sit down, this place is amazing, the building is 2 houses knocked into one, the rooms are small and intermate, full of character, I could not believe we were in Boro Its main reason for business is the micro pub, although we only had soft drinks we are returning to try the beer, many of the people in there, were raving about the beers.On a Monday night they do a secret cinema, for £8 you get a pint a snack and a movie you find out what the cult movie is on the night, hence secret cinema.What I loved about the small rooms was they are set out in a way that gets you talking to people, who are out for a pleasant night rather than seeing how quick they can get drunk and move on to the next pub.The staff were very friendly too

We'd seen a good review in the press somewhere, so we thought we'd give it a go for lunch and really glad we did.Quiet, chilled, nice ale and the food was immense. I had a really nice stew, but the cheese and beer soup my wife chose was incredible, massive food envy! Fortunately we shared the home made scotch egg which softened the blow.Great value too, can't recommend it enough

After a great tea at the Chairman on Bedford Street, we dropped in here for a couple of drinks before heading home. Great range of beers and good service. The front room does feel like you are in some one lounge but that is part of the attraction of visiting!

I'm a regular here and love the beer the atmosphere and the service is 1st Class. Love walking in and finding what beers they have on, they are always well kept and joy to the palate

I'd read a review that the pub/food scene in Middlesbrough had got its act together and this was the first one we tried, so glad we did. A converted terraced house that just works, we didn't eat but the selection of ales was superb, the staff first class and the clientele were friendly.I loved it!

Been here a few times and each time it's been a bit of a carry on, and now they are doing food... It's even more unorganised, I thought I'd try the food and wished I never wasted my money, terrible bland rubbish, tastes like supermarket bought in, dressed up with a bit of rocket!!!! I stood ages to be served at the bar, no smile no banter, and the lady who owns the place is always in a foul mood, I know I won't be back.. I've given this place a few chances now , but get the feeling like the staff and landlady feel like they are doing you a favour by serving you Very dissatisfied

Since opening over 12 month ago, this unique rustic Victorian style micro pub with its "bric a brac" from a time gone by has become a popular venue for its special ales,and great live music. Well I believe they have done it again with the Introduction of lunch time"British style tapas", served 11,00 am to 6.00 pm. Joined by two friends along we went this week to try this new concept,to coin a phrase "we were blown away" with the menu choice and the excellent quality of the dishes that we had chosen,beautifully presented and cooked to a very high standard, we chose different dishes to share, soup of the day (Brooklyn brown ale with mature cheddar) Camembert bonbons with English chilli jam, the best "biltong i have ever tasted, delicious smoked salmon, loin of cod with half pint of chips and a platter of Spanish ham all served with crusty bread.Whoops forgot to mention the bowl of "shin beef stew"a dish i recall from my grandmothers day, it was delicious. Well done to all concerned, We are already arranging our next visit

Friday night in Middlesbrough and what are you going to do? Well time was you'd look for a pint of Strongarm, or nice pint of Norseman lager or maybe a pint of Bass and if you were a supporter of a different team than Middlesbrough you'd drink up pdq and not say a word........Hey it's 2016 and the Twisted Lip exists. No food available but good crisps. That's the only slight negative. The twisted lip appears to be an old terraced house. There are several rooms, the one we were in was eclectically decorated with various stuffed animals, accordions and who knows what else. The beer was great, with an excellent choice. The service was first class whether serving drinks, getting drinks to our room or clearing the tables. All done in a first rate way.There were even Middlesbrough supporters using the pub! Hell, even they were really welcoming.I don't know what's happening up in the north east but The Twisted Lip is a sign of good things.

A very nice little micro brewery establishment. Good service, great beer, nice atmosphere. Tried a couple of ales and was extremely satisfied, offered a small taster for each one first.

Sometimes hard to get a seat , as it is full of people having a nice time . Often a quality dj or band on ( never detracts from enjoyment ) regulars and staff all super friendly and pints and top class

I was in Middlesborough for the football on Saturday and came upon The Twisted Lip by chance. I could see from the outside that it looked atmospheric and that was certainly the case on venturing in. The staff were friendly and helpful, describing the different ales on tap, etc. The beer was excellent.I got chatting with some of the locals and spent a very enjoyable two hours in the pub before catching my train back to Edinburgh. I came away thinking this is exactly how pubs should be, and it also reminded me of how incredibly friendly I found the people of Middlesborough to be way back in the 70's when I worked there for a period.

Although born in Boro I left in the late 70's. Having not had a night out in the centre for some 30+ years I asked for a recommendation. Twisted Lip was it and I was not disappointed. A quirky wee place, comfy sofa, excellent beer and friendly staff. Only criticism was the "music" - not my taste and FAR too loud. That said, it is well worth a visit :-)

This tiny local pub is tucked in between roadworks and old houses. It offers guest ales and main-stream beer. I tried two types of stout and must say the peanut butter stout was superb.

Love real ale and have visited on a number occasions. Well laid out and can be busy at times. When it is busy it is difficult to get served.

The staff here are very friendly and will have a good chat about which beers they recommend. Nice to see staff who were off work that day in for a chat with the guy behind the bar and willing to help out with customers! Lovely atmosphere inside and plenty of little nooks to sit in. The range of alcohol is great.

We're big fans of small micro-pubs so decided to visit here last week. Not sure what I expected from this pub but it was kind of what I expected! Lots of little rooms, very cluttered in an 'arty' sort of style. Outside space, not bad, might benefit from a hose down! Beer selection not bad at all, the IPA was very good! Nice to be offered a taster of any of the beers on offer. A small disappointment was when asked how the place got its name, sadly the barmaid didn't know!

Nice little pub in the heart of town. It's alongside other smaller, select bars. Selling an interesting array of real ales.

First visit to this quirky little pub & was pleasantly surprised. Can't comment on the beers as I'm a vodka lover. There's bars both upstairs & downstairs and both good. Music was great & staff friendly and drinks served quickly. Would definitely go again & would recommend. Wish there were places like this in Essex . Thanks Twisted Lip for a great night x
