O'Connells in Middlesbrough

A classic old fashion pub with a great atmosphere live bands on Saturday night Whoop whoop 😁

We had drinks all night from 7pm until we were turfed out just before midnight. Staff are great and really efficient. A new starter (?) was soon upto speed with my complex beer order (Deuchars IPA), and she gave a fantastic smile by the close. The band was excellent to the degree that we were all up and about bopping away.

Called in for Sunday dinner cause we'd read it is dog friendly. Top carvery we were all full up, and never left a crumb, and our little billy was treat to his own bowls of meat and water off the very friendly chef. We will definatley be coming back 😋🤫 back 😋😋

Early evening visit with a choir, made to feel very welcome and service was quick considering how many people were in.

Food was horrible had mince pie. Both separate so can't really call it a pie. Was way too salty potato was bland . Not nice at all

Didn't think much of the Sunday roast, mash and gravy were both salty

It's a decent pub, but the Sunday Carvery is undoubtedly the worst I've ever tasted. The Yorkshire puddings were stale, the mash and the gravy were drenched in salt.

Some great bands play here and top beer on tap. Had a great Saturday night in here recently.

Very busy but James Arthur was playing at The Riverside that night. I had fish and chips. Chips were lovely but the fish needed another 5mins. Obviously cooked from frozen. Very greasy, looked crispy but wasn't.

never write reviews but the parmo i had earlier knocked me sick left half of it, raw breading and a bland mushy mess

had parmo salt and pepper chips 10/10 all the time our lass had rodeo burger chips not forgetting my tub of garlic sauce got a takeaway carton for some to of the food to take home recommend all the time

Our new go to place for food and drink on a match day! Used to always go to Lloyds but now it’s closed we needed a new venue! It’s always busy on a match day so need to get down quite early but usually manage to get a table now! Food is always spot on, proper pub grub which always does the trick! The chips are amazing from there, proper home style and plenty of usual favourites to choose from! Drinks are pretty much the usual price for these days but the staff always seem to be quite nice and happy to serve! Can’t really speak about other days than match day but seems to be a good atmosphere and I’ve heard the dinners on Sunday are meant to be really good too!

We went for the cavery Sunday Dinner, there was a choice of beef, turkey, pork and Gammon, all the veg was fresh, beautiful gravy, staff were friendly, excellent value, definitely be going again

Out with colleagues - good night

We were a group of 8, the chap behind the bar wasn't the friendliest, seemed put out that we were in his bar spending money,other customers were made to queue as the other pumps along the bar were not being used which just created a bottleneck and confusion as to who was to be served next, thankfully Boro is a vibrant place with plenty of choice, O'Connells is no longer on our preferred list when deciding where next to go.

Good place to start your night!

Very friendly local, with terrific food ( giant Yorkshire with mash and mince was ace.) Music/karaoke on the Friday was busy with a terrific variety of styles catered for. Drinks and food were competively priced. Staff were friendly, efficient ( especially Friday night) and helpful. I'd not been here for 4 years but will be back.

Came yesterday ordered lasagne friend ordered Parmesan I’ve been violently ill all evening and all of Sunday would not come again

Visiting from Leicester made to feel so welcome. Bar staff really friendly chatted to locals as if they were old friends. Food really good had a wonderful omelette and chips and salad left an empty plate.The serving at the bar was excellent a great system of serving from one place meant no pushing round other drinkers.Would suit anybody as a local.Great place.

Lovely carvery and very reasonable price

This is a pub that works for a lot of scenarios: good for watching football, or local bands, or just to have a few drinks with friends. We visited after a football match and stayed for a few hours. The staff were great, beers well priced and the atmosphere was fun and friendly!

Down for business for some time now. The staff are very welcoming with a great sense of humour. The chef is a character and the food is spot on for a reasonably price. Recommend to all working away.

Went to go here at 22:00 on a Wednesday night and the place was in darkness. You shut at 23:00! If your going to shut early mention it on your social media otherwise stay open until your closing time. I took my business elsewhere and will not ever return to here!!

A long time since I'd been to O'Connells pleasantly surprised. Good atmosphere reasonable prices at the bar & lovely tasty chips. For Saturday afternoon visit.

We came across the pub by chance. Ordered a couple of dark fruits which were £4.60 a pint which is on the higher side. The food prices looked great and instead of looking for food elsewhere we though we would give it a try. I had chicken parmo bun/chips/salad, partner lasagne/chips/salad and daughter chicken nuggets/chips and beans. 3 meal only £17 which is a great piece. My parmo was lovely, daughter enjoyed her nuggets but wouldn’t eat the chips as they were too greasy. I enjoyed the chips but had to agree that were far to greasy and my mrs enjoyed her lasagna but it looked and tasted very too oily. Finer skill on the food would definitely make it a place to visit

First night in Middlesbrough and discovered O'Connells. Live band was awesome, played some great covers and had the pub singing. Price of pint very good too with plenty of choice for everyone taste.

I have lots of memories of this place when it was the Wig and Pen. Nice place with lots of decent food options and lovely staff. Toilets need updating though!

Went for Sunday dinner and left still hungry. Asked for an extra Yorkshire pudding instead of meat and was told I would have to pay extra. Well I am already paying full price for a carvery when I am not eating meat so why would i pay extra for a Yorkshire pudding which is cheap to produce. Was like he was being awkward for the sake of being awkward. Not much veg on offer, roasties were hard inside and mash was way too creamy. Feels outdated inside the chairs we were sat at the leather was all ripped, had to ask someone to clear the table with food left on it so overall not pleasant experience.

Very good traditional pub that serves great home cooked food. Tried many of the dishes on various visits and never disappointed. Still many to try.

After taking ill in the toilets, near closing time where I couldn't walk,the manager told me in no uncertain terms that I had to get up and get out even though I was on the floor and waiting for an ambulance, he was shouting and abusive saying he would call the police to come get me out as I was trespassing,even though I was in there all evening. When this didn't work he told me he was going to lock me in the pub. At this point fearing for my safety I rang the police myself who came and waited with me whilst I waited for an ambulance. The man was still shouting even when the police and paramedics where there. I really wouldn't visit this bar as he is just a bully who likes to try intimidate ill vulnerable people.

Fantastic pub, great atmosphere, met so many nice people. Karaoke too. Excellent.

Although Google told it should have been opened until 2330 it was closed when we arrived at 1900.

Cracking pub with great service and friendly staff. I regularly visit on match days and the atmosphere is always buzzing. Prices are reasonable and it's also a decent pint.

I only called in for a quick pint, but I did enjoy it. The barmaid is a knockout!

First visit to O'Connells, I really enjoyed it, great atmosphere, great service at the bar, The live band the stuntmen were brilliant, overall it was a great night out, will definitely be returning, would reccomend.

Great to find a pub that does old school home cooked pub food (including several versions of the Middlesbrough staple, parmesans AKA parmos!) and doesn't rely on microwaves. Good variety of beers. Friendly atmosphere and nice staff. Can get lively on Friday nights in particular, with a karaoke, but is usually quiet later afternoon/evening on weekdays. Food isn't usually served any later than 6pm. We come here regularly because it's good value. One of the few pubs around the town centre that isn't a trendy gastropub, late night bar or a micropub.

Sunday Lunch was nice ,but I hate eating around unruly kids 😒 this could of been addressed by staff ,who wants little brats running riot & screaming while dining out? Not me...

if you stand at certain parts of the bar very hard to get served.3.80 for a pint of strongbow is daylight robbery.and staff need some lessons in customer service.will never go there again..

I am blown away by the shear amount of food and quality of the meat. A choice of 2 different meats from 4 available, loads of veg, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, plenty of sauces available and lashings of gravy. Best Sunday lunch I have had in years.
