Amazing Sunday dinner, served so quickly by wonderfully friendly staff - the beef was beautifully tender and the vegetables were well seasoned. The place was full of happy customers!

Rothbury ! The Picturesque Peaceful Traditional Market Town, and no better place to stay than the The Turks Head a lovely well appointed Country Pub Hotel. It really is a superb place to stay! Located in the centre of this lovely Market Town with ample free parking. This Pub Hotel offers a very warm welcome upon arrival, from very attentive and friendly staff. The very well appointed accommodation is very comfortable and spotless. The food is excellent, especially the traditional fish and chips, the very best that we have ever tasted. This Morning, 28 Oct. A lovely sunny morning with gorgeous Autumn colours on a scene practically unchanged from my first visit 70 years ago.

We stayed in Rothbury last week and we were so pleased to have a local pub like The Turks Head Close by. The staff are absolutely brilliant especially Rebecca and the chef (sorry we didn't get his name however he went out of his way to make something which wasn't on the menu for my friend). The food was so tasty and they served a good pint as well. Many pubs are closing down but they should look at The Turks Head at what they are doing. The chef said all the staff get on and work as a team which was obvious by how they were. The landlady/landlord should be very proud of their staff!!

My husband found a twig lurking in the spinach pie. The waitress appeared to find it amusing calling it a tree. We didn't want compensation, She said she would tell the chef, we had to pursue a response. It was a weak apology and the waiter said it must have come in the bag of spinach. We found it strange as it should have been washed again. I pointed out that e coli had been found in pre washed spinach and I understood vegetables had to be soaked in salt for 10 minutes to ensure no bugs were still lurking. They appeared to be discussed interested. Little things mean a lot. When I walked passed the kitchen there were dirty tea towels and messy work tops. Could be so much better without stalks left in the tomatoes, cucmber tasted like marrow...

Terrible. Worst meal in years. Utterly disgusting. Ordered spanakopita & calamari. Simple Greek pie with feta & spinach. Everything. Soggy, untrimmed gritty spinach in some sort of revolting cheese sauce with soggy filo pastry reheated in microwave. No discernible feta flavour. Vile. Awful sticks of frozen calamari cooked in dirty oil. Made a big fuss of cutting own chips by hand on the premises & twice cooked! Wow..they can cut a potato & cook it twice! Both times badly.

No complaints regarding the quality of the food. Tall young woman wearing a hoody wasn't particularly friendly. When I went to pay she didn't offer me a receipt. No pepper on the table and vinegar bottle nearly empty. Must have been clear that we weren't local, but no member of staff engaged in conversation, asked if we had enjoyed our meal or if we wanted coffee etc. Service was somewhat indifferent

Decided to call for lunch as I hadn't been for years. I had my favourite, Mince and dumplings, just perfect for a cold winter's day. The meal was huge and could only place a small amount of vegetables in the bowl with the mince and dumplings. The food was served hot on a well-heated plate and everything was perfect. I thought that I had sufficient space for a dessert and ordered sticky toffee pudding. It was delicious but a big mistake to order it as I definitely did not have the capacity to eat anymore!!

We took a chance with this place whilst on holiday and didn’t book but managed to get a table no problem! After reading the reviews I was looking forward to trying the food, we ordered the chicken burger to be told they had no buns but can still have the burger without, a chicken breast with mushroom sauce and lasagna. The service was slow and it wasn’t overly busy, our food came and they had messed up the order and brought one meal out wrong so hubby had to wait for his whilst we ate ours! The lasagna was nice but the chicken burger is nothing like it stated on the menu which says it’s made with there own secret ingredients it was basically a frozen thin piece of chicken mush! Hubby’s chicken with mushroom sauce came which he said was ok but all 3 meals definitely didn’t appear to be home cooked meals made with local meat as stated on the website, they appeared to be more like micro meals unfortunately! Not one person came to ask if everything was ok whilst we was there which is unusual now a days, by the time we left there was hardly anything on the menu available they say this was due to being so busy over the weekend but what I do not understand is if they use local business for the meat why didn’t they just go to the local butchers during the day to replenish stock! Same with no bread buns could of gone to the local shop to buy some!! When it came to paying the Bill the delayed chicken breast had been deducted off the bill without us asking which is a positive towards the place but I’m afraid this is not a place I would want to visit again, I had to come back and cook my son some tea as he was starving still I’m afraid!

We came here as a family of five for an evening meal. The service to begin with was very attentive however this soon went downhill when the staff seemed to disappear and the one remaining waiter paid more attention to a larger table as he seemed to know them. An average Monday night and not overly busy. We were sat waiting for more drinks and again waiting for our bill. Ended up going to the bar several times as no one came to our table. Food was ok - basic pub grub. Photos online are not representative of the food and neither is the menu. Disappointed to say the least.

The food we had was OK, but the problems were the menu and availability. There weren’t any starters on the menu. The mains were very limited and on both occasions we ate in the restaurant the dish I wanted wasn’t available. The dessert offer looked OK, apart from the plastic packaged raspberry sundae, which looked like something out of a supermarket. Availability was again an issue - different desserts not available on both occasions we ate. We did get good service and the price was reasonable. Note - 10% service charge is automatically added to you bill, so don’t tip twice.

This was definitely a game of two halves. The main courses we had were good, the burger in particular was very tasty. The vegetarian choice is limited however but there is a vegan dish available. The desserts on the other hand were… erm… not what was expected. When you see the phrase “Raspberry Ripple Sundae” on the menu, you think of, well, a freshly made one. What we got was in a plastic carton fresh from the manufacturer. To say it threw me back to my school days was putting it mildly. If I’d had it in junior school, I would have been thrilled! In a pub however, I really think it’s not really what it could have been.I know that things have been challenging for the hospitality industry and I can certainly say that they’re doing their best I’m sure to provide a good service, there are certainly issues with speed and I really think it would be useful to put on the menu if something is prepackaged. No one has a problem with knowing you’re getting a tub of something if that’s what you expect, as it was, it at least brought back memories of childhood!

Visited Saturday evening, mid-June…..lovely spot in the town and a great table in the garden.Service; absolutely fabulous…. Very friendly, chatty and impeccable manners. The lady who looked after the garden, very attentive and the young lad delivering the food…. He could charm the birds out of the trees with his smile. Well done both of you!Food; probably the best steak pie I’ve had in a very long time….. everything was hot, even the plates were warm. Veg was spot on, still a little crunchy; chips were a little over but that’s hyper critical. The sticky toffee pudding….. now that was spot on….. lovely; worth visiting for that alone.Beer; tough plastic glasses….never good for real ale. Understand it saves damage in the garden but please forewarn your customers, they might make a different drinks choice. Certainly took the edge off the Timothy Taylor’s Landlord.Overall, a pub worth visiting for brilliant food and service….. if it hadn’t been for the beer this would have been a five star rating.

We waited for 15 minutes and noone came to take a drinks order or give us a menu.I had to get the older ladies attention who hadnt lifted her head from the outdoor pay station and was letting the young blonde waitress do all the donkey work..The older work shy lady then eventually brought me a menu and promptly asked what food we wanted..Erm steady on love, can I just read the menu first?I ordered drinks, my hubby a coke and I asked for tap water.I was told they dont serve tap water anymore they sell bottled water...I thought the law states if a public house serves alcohol then by law they have to serve tap water?I then asked how long the wait for food would be as we only had an hour before we had to leave for home..She said oooh its ages. We got up and left..Please dont blame covid for your shoddy service, all you've had to do is serve food outside as opposed to inside..You just have staff who havent a clue what they're doing..Well apart from the young blonde girl with the red tartan skirt as that poor lass was doing the job of 3 people whilst lazy older woman and snappy thai woman did nothing

We had been for a long walk with our dog and they happily settled us in a round table in the corner whilst the dog took over the floor. We ordered cups of tea and lunch. The tea, sensibly, came in two pots each with the right number of tea bags rather than one with water to top up and the food was some of the best we had had on holiday.... the chips were perfect we were all very happy with the food! Called in for lunch after walking in the area. The cheese baguette was very plain and the chips were decent but we asked multiple times for salt and after still not receiving it, had to go get it ourselves. Waiter had nothing protective on due to covid19 and when asked said it's not something they have to do.

After a morning exploring Brinkburn Priory, we ventured to Rothbury for lunch. We opted for The Turks Head as they advertised they were dog friendly. The service was great, very informative and helpful. The food was served promptly and was really good! I had scampi, which was really tasty, home made chips were lush! My hubby went for the Chef's meat pie, it too was gorgeous, loads of good quality meat, great chips and a really tasty, thick gravy. The coffee came with a free refill and was good filtered coffee! Very pleased with the meal and without realising we also benefitted from the "Eat out to help out" discount!! Would highly recommend!!

We stopped off on our way to go camping, and were very happy we did! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was exceptionally good and they serve a good pint! The beef sandwich was absolutely loaded with steak, the gravy was thick and delicious, and the chips were fresh and crisp. We will be back on our way home.

What a wonderful Inn, with awesome Staff and Management - food fantastic as well - well situated to visit all of Northumberland, we can not recommend this place enough.Even though stressed, due to having to close the Pub, because of the Corona Virus, the staff looked after us fantastically. Good value for money, and wonderful with our two dogs.A friendly, helpful, family oriented Inn.Just do not expect a 3 to 5☆ hotel.I heard they are now planning to improve the rooms and pub over this inforced break. Bonus!!

Warm welcome on arrival received, and directions given to walk around Rothbury. Parking advice also given re starlings. Nice pub, ambiance and place, really welcoming and very helpful staff. Room was more than fine for our booking at the the last minute saver price. Did not eat there, but Sunday dinners were in full flow. Breakfast was OK, quick service but not the best pub breakfast we have ever eaten or enjoyed, a bit overcooked (kept heated in oven?) to the point of being unable to cut or eat most of the sausage. however, for price overall we enjoyed and would recommend to others.

I stayed at the Turk's Head at the beginning of February during a foolish attempt to mountain bike over the Cheviots in rain and gale-force winds. My mate and I were absolutely covered in mud from head to toe when we arrived, as were our bikes - some places would've just told us to get lost, but not the staff at the Turk's Head. Instead, they gave us hot water and towels from the kitchen (these were disposed of afterwards!) to wash our bikes down ready for our next day of cycling, stored them in their shed and even washed our muddy clothes for us. Super friendly from start to finish and a very pleasant spot to have a few pints too. I'd definitely recommend the place if you need somewhere to stay in Rothbury.

Day out into the country and despite the high winds we headed for Rothbury. Beautiful pint from a local brewer. Nice and quiet with a great old fashioned feel to the place. I guess it;s set up for walkers as the toilets are well in neeed of a refurb. Food was plentiful and the only let down was the " skinny burger " requested didn't arrive as anticipated.. However the ducks were fed on the white bun rather than brioche. Give this place a go. 2 coal fires on a cold day, a good pint, and the temptation is to stay all afternoon.

We were booked in for one night stay (which had been booked for 3 weeks) and had specifically requested the garden room on a recommendation. When we arrived we were told we had been moved to a different room as had another couple on the Friday night who had also booked the garden room. The young girl was very apologetic and tried to get us in the garden room but after speaking to the owner on the telephone we were told the garden room was not available. To say we were disappointed was a understatement. We were told the occupants of the garden room had only booked a couple of days earlier. Even a courtesy telephone call to inform us of the situation would have been acceptable and would have saved us the drive and fuel to get there.

Myself and my family occupied the Turks Head for two nights over new year! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble!! Debbie is the loveliest owner and Gina was so welcoming! The girls on the bar were so hardworking but always made time for a chat, as did the lovely cleaner! The rooms, atmosphere in the bar and New Year’s Eve karaoke entertainment were exactly what we wanted for a perfect family stay! The food is home cooked and very tasty! The pipers on New Year’s Day were a great tradition to witness and the atmosphere was amazing! You couldn’t wish for a better location!! We will definitely visit again in the summer! Thank you Debbie & co xxx

I arrived with my family looking for a quiet night and also a lovely breakfast, what I got was far from that. Place was disgusting the sheets not clean. Downstairs pub was too old and in desperate need of a revamp, Kim and Aggy would of needed a week to sort this place out. Staff rude when we discussed the problems with them so we went to sleep at about 00;00 when downstairs had stopped making a racket! Breakfast was not even eatable my son was ill from it later on in that day! The only reason we were not is because we couldn’t even touch it! Wouldn’t bother going your better off staying at home

The staff were rude and aggressive from behind the bar. The breakfast on the morning of leaving was rotten, sausages under cooked and everything just piled on the plate. Thought maybe the breakfast may have been something to make up for the terrible sleep we incurred from the messy room with rough bed sheets which didn’t look as if they’d been changed from the last guests. Constant smell in the room as well was horrible and the noise from downstairs in the bar was another thing either keeping us awake or annoying us. Locals seem to be preferred here as they are always served food or drinks first. If you are thinking of staying here DONT.

A pub lunch that delivers in every respect. Roaring coal fire to welcome you in and a friendly hello from the locals plus bar staff that were clearly born for that job! The grub was delicious and portions more than generous - with chips to die for! Save room for pud - it's well worth it!

Recently stayed here so that we could visit Cragside (NT) on our way south. Warm welcome from staff but we were asked to pay before seeing our room! We were in the garden room which is up steep steps outside. Although it had been redecorated the suite needed some attention. Heaters but no central heating, no heat in the large bathroom & poor lighting. Overpriced for the accommodation. Good breakfast. Evening meal ok in bar with open fire - nice on a cool autumn night.

Its a while since we've been, won't hurry back. Went for breakfast, no egg on menu, no choice of white or brown bap, tea was bag in cup no pot, took so long to arrive our drinks were gone.

Nice welcoming staff. Good range of drinks . Food tasty and very good value for money. The decor is a bit tired but the good food and atmosphere outweighs this. Looks like the new owners are working at gradually improving its looks but making their priority good food, good drink, friendly atmosphere.
