Faultless. Staff, atmosphere, venue, food quality, presentation, portion size & value for money. Unfortunately it's so rare these days to leave a venue completely satisfied. Particular mention for the side salad!

We've been to this pub plenty of times but never eaten. We will be going back. Fantastic location right on the river. The pub is just so traditional it oozes what no modern pub can. It's just lovely. The food was lovely. The best ham I've ever had. The portions were huge and I totally stuffed myself as it was so tasty. Definitely be going back in the future

My colleague and I were just out on business and fancied a beer. We went out of our way to get to The Trout, but I know the pub well and know Penny always has a good selection of draft ales on tap. The place was absolutely heaving, given this was a Tuesday I was surprised but shouldn't have been as I know how popular it is. Next time we call in we will bring our wives for a meal as well as drinks.

You eat in the garden right beside the Thames - a truly lovely spot. Around half the tables have sun umbrellas but if you’re too late to bag one of them (as we were) but still want shade then there’s a roomy open- sided tent with chairs that are actually more comfortable than the benches and chairs outside. Being Whit Week, the garden was full - so food did take a little while to come. There was such a great atmosphere that it would have been a pity to hurry. The menu offered a good choice, and everything was freshly made and very tasty. The staff were all friendly and cheerful, making us all feel really welcome. We couldn’t have asked for more!

We had Sunday lunch in the garden. No bookings, but after a short queue we got a table at 2 pm after a lovely walk along the river. The food was good pub food, the setting was great, but the best thing was the staff: even though they were extremely busy, they were all exceptionally friendly. That's what made it special. I would certainly come back, and recommend it to others.

Had scrumptious Mother's Day lunch delivered to our door from the Trout Inn. The husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a good temperature when it arrived to us. There was a handsome portion of pork on both, the potatoes were fabulous and a good selection of vegetables. I'm very much a traditionalist and Sunday is always a roast day. (especially in lockdown!!) This was the first Sunday roast that has been cooked for me in a year and it was a real joy to eat.(Obviously, some of the tick boxes below were inappropriate as this was a delivered meal, rather than one we ate at the Trout).

We met family for lunch last week at the Trout Inn. My granddaughter is lactose intolerant and must avoid a number of foods. The staff provided her with her own menu, with multiple choices, something she doesn't often get and she was very appreciative. We had excellent food in a lovely old Cotswold inn, in front of a log fire, socially-distanced for two households, but able to talk and enjoy a comfortable family reunion. We are now all locked down since last week, including the Trout, but we look forward to future meals there.

We expected foil dishes but got real plates in a cool bag. This meant that after our half hour drive back home the food was still hot and extremely well cooked. My nut roast was one of the best I've ever had we will definitely be back. We also attended an evening event on Halloween of ghost story telling with a supper. again this was extremely well organised and the food was lovely and hot. The story teling was entertaining and hat's off to all the performers. A+++++

The positives...great effort to be covid secure and friendly serviceThe negatives...very limited menu. No atmosphere, no background music. Food was poor at best. Surely it's not too difficult to prepare some dishes in the kitchen rather than just serving stuff that's bought in. Chips undercooked. Terrible side salad with unripe tomatoes, no dressing. Over priced. I'd rather have bought a microwave meal from Londis and stayed home. If you are going to charge for food then please make some effort to actually cook. Is that too much to ask?

Served in a very grubby marquee, table was dirty with hairs on it had to ask to be sanitised. The Manager was very sweaty and unsavoury looking and was insistent that we download an App calked Roun to order and pay, which wasnt easy to do. He was very over the top about everything. The food was average and came on plates with foil and cling film in an Aldi bag and u had to put dirty plates and glasses back in the bag. Are the bags disinfected each time ... i wonder??? I understand the necessity to be very careful about Covid but this was a step too far and ensured that lunch was a very unpleasant experience. We visited many restaurants on our trip and they all were very careful to ensure customer and staff safety whilst offering a nice experience. ¡No deberíamos habernos preocupado!

Myself and son called in here on the way back from Swindon on Sunday. The pub was fairly busy as it was a sunny day and the the pub is located next to the Thames with adjoining campsite. On entering the pub you get the impression you are walking into a second hand furniture shop. The large tables are completely in the wrong position. They have been placed to cut the bar into two so as people come through the door there is no space to get to the bar and you are forced to queue. Two people were eating in this ridiculous tabled area and punters who wanted the loo or the restaurant area at the rear of the pub would have to brush by them making it a real pain.Another table was put in front of a door marked private so you had to ask people to move-stupid.They already have window benches but no table in front so its obvious to put the tables in front of them and create space in bar area so the bar would then be a full length bar to serve the punters. The pub was built in the 1600's and I think the staff were from the same period. The main woman shouted at the queue and asked could she help anyone so shocked punters had to leave the queue go past the people eating and bring back their drinks. The food is ridiculously expensive 2 slices of ham 2 eggs and 20 chips does not equate to £13.25 and a pizza for 13.50 is far too expensive.Could and should be loads better if someone not stuck in the 16oo's ran it with proper food prices.Best to bypass the Trout and go round the corner to the Riverside

It is a proper pub with good simple food, a good range of drinks and excellent real ales. It also is set in a lovely location - a short walk along the Thames from Lechlade with a garden right by the river. Quiet Sunday but still nearly an hours wait for food...... food was very disappointing, burger had probably been cooking for the full time we waited to be served it was that dried out.... claimed to be from a local butcher, but I have bought meat from there and this burger was a long way short of the expected quality.....far from generous on all fronts, no more than half a teaspoon of relish (on the lettuce not the burger) single layer of chips to the side....... penny’s beer battered fish had us anticipating homemade bubbly batter, but all I can think is that penny’s beer battered cod is available from Iceland....... at £14/15 per meal this is very poor value......last time we ate here we said we wouldn’t come back....we really mean it this time.

A small local pub in an old building by the River Thames. We booked a table in advanced and for a Easter Saturday it was relatively quiet with empty tables in the restaurant area. We had a steak and kidney pie, pan fried trout and Seabream - from the chefs special. Good home cook kind of food not the fancy stuff. . The pudding could be improved though.

Lou y Terri

St John's Bridge goes over the very first lock on the River Thames, so the location is definitely special. In the very point where the River Leach (a brook, really, but important enough to give the name to the nearby town of Lechlade), you can find the Trout Inn, a beautiful historic listed building, surrounded by gardens stretching all the way to the River. Perfect for drivers (large car park) and for boaters (plenty of mooring in front of the pub), the Trout appears to live on these features. It could do with a less crammed interior, but the food is good and the service kind and reasonably fast. Clearly equipped for extremely busy summer Sundays...

Visited The Trout Inn for a family lunch on a gloriously hot sunny day. Had booked table thankfully as cooler indoors. We had very good food nicely served and presented. Good choice on menu something for everyone. After lunch had walk in garden beautiful situation with river and boats. Garden area/marquee could do with a little attention and some more and larger table umbrellas, especially in heatwave summer, would be a welcome addition. But overall good experience.

We were camping in Lechlade and had been to this pub many years ago. We camped behind when there was a camp site and enjoyed it so much we went there several times. We decided to visit again and relive the experience of sitting on the riverside in the beer garden and having a meal. What a disappointment. It was a Sunday and we checked the website to see they did food from 7.00 - 8.30. So we walked from Lechlade, a pleasant walk and went into the bar to be informed there was no food being served, and when we questioned it again to see if we heard right, the barmaid said there is no food when a band has been on, only the barbacue which was beginning to close up when we arrived. She was completely disinterested in the fact that they state on the website that they do food on Sundays which I imagined to be bar and restaurant food, not barbacue. I suppose we should have checked beforehand but then we had to walk back to Lechlade to have some food. I think the place is really run down for a beautiful spot, it hasnt changed since the last time we went which was many years ago. They still have the grubby marque and tables and chairs need a bit of TLC. Wont go again. They did us a favour as we went back to the New Inn at Lechlade and had a lovely meal.

Shockingly run pub in a fabulous location. Massively busy Sunday (jazz band playing in the garden) and yet, get this, one of the 2 bars was closed for a private function. Even when the function finished, the 2nd bar was not opened to cope with numbers...therefore no choice but to go into the main bar where tables had been crammed in to the room (note to staff: no-one was sitting on them, it was almost like they were used as barricades to block the bar!!) long, long queues on a hot sunny day. Not well run as a pub. Food - looked ok, but when there's a sign up by the order point (a trestle table outside the bar) saying it'll be up to 45 minutes wait for food, why would you bother? This place could be fabulous, with more staff, a bit of clearing out of the bar for the summer months - and some imagination. PLUS paid £7+ for a pint of lager and a bottle of water...

This is a really welcome, beautifully renovated addition to the area. A warm and friendly local with stone walls and open fires. Food is very good, modern pub style at a very reasonable price for The Cotswolds. Staff are very friendly and efficient and the clientele are a great combination of locals at the bar, people eating and walkers, cyclists etc calling in for a pint. Been several times since it reopened and all have been good.

We had a stay for two nights with two rooms, dinner on evening one and two breakfasts. Positive Points 1. Quality steak 2. Delicious mackerel starter Negative Points 1. Cold and unwelcoming 2. Dirty tables and cutlery 3. Very long wait for food and nobody checked if everything was ok 4. Different change for same drinks every time. 5. No staff....one person does everything! 6. Filthy bedrooms, thick with dust and cobwebs 7. Rooms full of broken items ...mirrors, blinds 8. No slip mat provided for elderly people, so unable to have a shower (my mum was told to throw a towel in the bath!) 9. Extremely old mattress, lumpy and uncomfortable, old duvet with lumps and bumps 10. Linen bundles and beer barrels left outside rooms and at bottom of the stairs...huge fire and safety risk 11. Limited breakfast and very small quantity 12. Coffee and tea not restocked, dirty cups left in room and bed not made 13. Bathroom was rusty, filthy and hadn't been cleaned. Toilets were still dirty from previous guests.
