Superb Sunday Roast … fresh tasting … as good as home cooked…fabulous location… efficient staff

My friend and I got the steak sandwich she got it rare and I got medium rare both came well done and drowned in horse radish dipping sauce and chips were good. It was meant to be ciabatta but came in some seeded soggy brown bread

Absolutely gorgeous location. We sat on a terrace next to the water. The sun was out, the staff were friendly and helpful and so accommodating for our dog. Highly recommend. Dog Friendly.

Lovely venue on the banks of the River Thames, great food, and great staff. Our waitress for the afternoon was Nell and she was delightful and courteous.

Absolutely amazing place! The property is unbelievable inside and out, with amazing views. The staff were friendly and very accommodating to my mushroom allergy. Our large party was seated in an exquisite back dining room. I felt as if I had stepped into one of Tolkien's novels. The food was delicious and the menu was large and diverse. I can't wait to return when I visit the UK again.

Beautiful location for a restaurant. Food was spot on, couldn’t have asked for a better meal. Staff are all very friendly and attentive. Our waitress in particular, Kelly, was superb. Very polite and hard working. Would recommend this restaurant to family and friends.

I visited the Trout inn recently with family and we all had a great time! Highly recommend this place for family lunches as it has a warm and cozy atmosphere. Lily was able to accommodate for our family with three dogs, and made our visit a memorable one. Will be returning soon!

This is a comforting English pub. Nothing is level and there’s wood paneling and exposed beams, which makes it very endearing. Lucy was a fantastic server today. Sat near the fire in relaxed surroundings. Delicious food by Alex. Thank you, we will be back!

Trout inn is my top place to visit for a Sunday roast, by the river with great views. However, the service is exceptionally slow. Our starters came 45mins after we sitted and our roast came 40mins after that. I think we spend close to 3 hours for a 3 course meal. We sat outside the whole time by the river, luckily it was a warm day.

Lovely location and atmosphere. Attentive staff, good food. Prices have increased recently but that seems to be the case everywhere.

Food was delicious but small portions. The aubergine lasagne was served with a scattering of herbs. Lucy the waitress was very lovely, friendly and very polite. The pub itself was warm with lovely decor and comfy seating.

My sister and I brought our Dad here to celebrate his birthday and we were treated warmly by every member of staff we encountered. I say 'every' because we were the annoying kind of guests who initially reserved a table inside with a river view, then ventured outside as the weather was surprisingly nice, then came back inside for coffee as it got chilly. We were sorry to be such pains, but everyone was so kind about it. The food was also excellent. Thank you for being so accommodating and giving us a really lovely afternoon with Dad. We hadn't been to the Trout for about 20 years before this visit as none of us live locally any more, but I hope we'll be back sooner.

Disappointed that 3/4 of the vegetarian main courses weren't available, apparently due to running out whilst in the process of changing from the winter to spring menu, but still disappointing to miss out. Then the "mushy peas" turned up watery and cold... However, the staff were lovely and the venue is beautiful.

It consists of what tasted like a strange cheese pasta sauce, sweet chilli sauce?!, and some slightly stale bread for dipping.

Took a long time for initial drinks to arrive. The bottle of rosé wasn't chilled. It then took a while to get an ice bucket. The starters arrived within seconds of ordering, which was way too fast for a civilised Saturday evening meal, unless your American, of course. The two very small goats cheese tarte tatins had overcooked & crumbly puff pastry, making them difficult to eat. Deep fried squid was OK but uninspiring. As our main courses arrived, the fire alarm sounded and nobody seemed to have a clue what we should do. Our waiter told us that it was his first day and that he hadn't been given any training on it. The diners all spent a minute or so looking around at each other wondering if they should evacuate the building until it was switched off. There was no leadership from anyone. The main course pizza was deemed to be OK, my beef pie with mash and vegetables was very good but the small portion looked a bit pathetic on the plate. The additional small pan of gravy which came with it was very average. My wife's ribeye steak was very poor indeed, with half of its 10oz left on the plate in the form of fat & sinew. This was, after a bit of toing & froing with the waitress, eventually removed from the bill. Overall, not particularly good. We won't be troubling them again any time soon.

such an excellent place on the river with some bridges and the meadow in the background. delicious pub fare and classic UK beers this place is excellent. Bring a sweater if you come after sundown because it gets chilly!

Fantastic pub/restaurant, delicious food, beautiful location and friendly and attentive staff- what more could you ask for? The squid starter was particularly delicious. Lovely welcome from all the staff and I must say thank you to our server, Xavi, for great service.

We had an excellent Sunday lunch, the food was amazing and the waitress Lucy was engaging, informative and efficient. Highly recommend. Maybe worth parking at Godstow carpark, 4 minutes walk away as Trout carpark very busy.

I had probably the nicest plate of risotto here that I've ever eaten - perfectly cooked, really balanced seasoning, slightly brothy, superb flavour

Lovely meal, shame about the gas leak and therefore limited menu, but all good and would recommend!

Enjoyed Sunday lunch with friends. The place was very busy but staff were very calm and efficient. Top marks to our waitress Lucy for excellent service. Ps the car park was very busy so allow extra time for parking in the additional car park down the road if the Trout car park is full.

Food was of a high standard. Service was prompt even though busy. Good value for money. Table stuck away in far corner was the only thing that could be improved upon.

They have got the location, so don't need to try too hard with the food, and they don't. Had " beef and merlow" pie, with chive mash, just one quibble, no beef in it. A big chunk of pie, looked promising, decent pastry, and good rich flavour, but whole pie had 4 tiny pieces of beef, about 1cm cube each. This pie is designed by accountants not cooks. It was just gravy and pastry. Total value of beef content in the pie, about 30p. For 18 quid, a rip off. I've noticed this a couple of times with The Trout, the 'expensive ' bit of any meal is always in very short supply, eg had cheese and biscuits for dessert a few weeks earlier, loads of crackers and pickle, but 3 tiny bits of cheap supermarket cheese. Also the piped music is absolute torture, volume too high, and music abysmal. Tried it just before Xmas, 5 out of 10, gave it another go this week, 3 out of 10, won't be back

Living in 🇨🇦, I come over to 🇬🇧 every 6 Months to see my elderly parents. With amazing fare, it’s not difficult to make sure we pay a visit to The Trout with each trip. We’re treated exceptionally well …and this last trip was no different. Hanah (our server …and perhaps the manager for all I know), made sure we were looked after. The meals were cooked to perfection and the entire dining experience was lovely. Thanks so much Hanah!

I have left a good bye comment 5~6 years ago and haven't gone back since then. I realised that the new owner replied to my comment and I gave them a try this time. I was impressed by their new refurbished and service. Also there is a lunch set menu with reasonable price. I ordered from the regular menu and chose seafood pasta which is easy to judge for freshness of materials. It was delicious and the pasta was cooked al dente perfectly. I am really happy with their new management and shef. I will go back again soon.

I chose the 3 course lunch menu The starter of SEA SALT & CRACKED BLACK PEPPER SQUID* was reasonable. The main of CARAMALISED BANANA BLOSSOM STEW was APPALLING . It was bland tasteless had no seasoning and had I not been with friends would have returned the dish back to the kitchen. The dessert of VANILLA POACHED PEAR was also a COMPLETE letdown. It was served cold and the pear was supposedly to have a sweet crumb. This was like a sawdust with no taste of anything and not sweet. It completely ruined the pear and should not have been served as a desert like that in any establishment. So overall very very disappointed and also very overpriced for an extremely poor meal.

We booked in advance for a group of 26 and had an excellent meal here. The quality of the roast was very impressive even before considering the size of our group and the rest of the pub was also busy. Good portion of beef in the roast as well! Excellent friendly service and thanks for hosting us!

I hadn’t been here for years, but met up with friends for lunch. My soup was tepid, the fish cakes were horrible -tense with no fish obvious, more like a potato burger. Even the chips weren’t crispy. It was also really cold in our dining room despite wearing my thermals. Service was really good though, and if I hadn’t been catching up with friends I would have sent both my dishes back to the kitchen. Very disappointing.

Excellent place for weekday lunch. Right by the river. Arrive (Duncan) was excellent, food was very good and we sat right by the fire so really cosy and warm (January). Fair pricing, not too extortionate.

Food and service were excellent. The restaurant is comfortable and nicely decorated. My only criticism is the acoustics in the extension are a bit difficult and make chatting hard because you can't hear well for the noise. But it's a great place and that won't stop me going again.

Very enjoyable experience. Already planning the next visit.
