Excellent food in a relaxed traditional setting

My wife and I dined here earlier today with guests visiting Oxford for a speaking engagement. What an incredible experience. The ambience is fantastic, and the restaurant itself is located at a beautiful location. The food was absolutely delicious—huge thanks to our chef, Lauren, who deserves all the praise for her culinary magic. We went for Chicken & Leek pie, Cod&Chips, Duck and Pineapple Salads, Pork. Then tarts for desserts 🤤 Our server, Nell, truly made the evening special. She was warm, welcoming, and incredibly patient with helping us with choices, making us feel right at home. What a kind person!! 🥹 Only praises for the whole team there and this place. Highly recommend this 💎!

Excellent service and a delicious lunch.

We went for a roast dinner advertised to be happening all Easter weekend long. The website literally said ‘Join us for An Elevated Easter Weekend FRIDAY 18TH APRIL - MONDAY 21ST APRIL’ However, when we got there, no Easter dinner was on offer. Our server had no idea what we were talking about. It was very disappointing. False advertising in fact. I brought guests from out of the country to have an iconic roast, so I felt pretty hoodwinked.

Stunning pub, great location, beautiful surroundings, wonderful food, attentive staff, easy parking. Doesn't get any better than this.

Easter Sunday! Such a lovely day! Turned up early and they acclimated us amazingly! Lovely bottle of wine next to the river and sat down early for our amazing duo of beef roast that was cooked to perfection. Friendly lovely staff and an amazing meal!

Lily served us with a smile and professional attention to make our meal flow perfectly. Joe cooked our chateaubriand well but really needs to do a better job with preparing crumble. The crumble was wafer thin and the jug of custard was just 2 desert spoonfuls.

Wonderful food, great location to pause a bit and enjoy landscape and great British food. Great selection of cask ales and stouts, too. Roast chicken is a must taste! Exquisite Mash - kids loved it. Thank you for having us!

The food was generally of a good standard. The starters and deserts were well prepared tasty and attractively presented. Main courses were generally of a reasonable standard, not great but not bad. The fish and chips was not great, it was about 90% batter and the tiny fish I did find was very overcooked. There servers were very busy, very pleasant and seemed willing to do whatever they could for all around.

Thank you for a great time, the food was excellent. Chicken, leek pie is a must try. The staff taking care of us were attentive and really were there to serve. Despite some of our guests being less than demure. You can tell this is a team that enjoy their environment they work in, hearts to serve. Great job !! Once in a lifetime trip over the pond this place was worth it.

It used to be good, but what a shame! I've been here a LOT of times over the years (it's a good halfway place to meet my dad for a pie and a pint), however it's really done downhill over the last 12 months. We arrived last night, the restaurant and terrace was empty, and the tables in the bar 60% full, so they weren't busy. We stood at the (empty) bar for 10mins, whilst listening to staff complaining that they were fed up and wanted their shift to end, whilst a large beardy dude muttered something about 'with you in a bit' and wandered off. We waited 10 mins longer and then left. The Trout clearly has a great location, and the food on previous visits has been 'okay', but the experience is terrible. The staff need motivating and better training. On a plus side, we went to the 'other' pub in the village, and got a warm welcome; so we've got a new meeting place!

Alice W was our server and did an excellent job taking care of us and making sure we had everything we needed!

Great company and great food with a lot of good choices

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at The Trout, and a pre lunch drink outside overlooking the river. We then enjoyed an afternoon walk alongside the river. The food was excellent, good selection and portion size. Our server, Xavi, was first class - both friendly and professional, thanks especially to her. We are delighted to have discovered this treasure and will definitely be back. Definitely advise booking ahead because this pub is very popular.

We've been coming here for years and seen the changes. From an olde worlde pub to a gastronomic destination when in Wolvercote. They've retained its original feel and improved the food and services to a very high standard. Prices are not cheap but worth the value. Great place for kids too. River Thames flowing on side makes this a picturesque place to meet and dine.

We had a fabulous 56th wedding anniversary at the fantastic The Trout. We had the best service and attention from Lucy and first class food by chef Alex. Couldn’t ask for more and the seniors in charge of the evening did a superb job. Susan & Geoff

Came in earlier today for a burger & chips £18.50 the burger was tasteless with a very small portion of bland chips . I haven’t been to the trout for many years and was really shocked today at the quality of the food Very disappointing

A lovely pub sat in a great location, with plenty of free parking. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff were attentive. I ordered the fish & chips which sadly were very disappointing, the fish was soggy, the chips were limb and undercooked and the mushy peas were like water. However, everyone else said their meals were fantastic and our starters and puddings were great. I guess I was unlucky with my order, maybe it was a bad night. I would come back again but avoid the fish and chips.

The seating area outside has expanded so there is plenty of space for everyone. Excellent location

The Trout inn in wolvercote in Oxford is a proper village pub that ticks all the boxes. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff are friendly and efficient, always happy to offer recommendations or just have a chat. The beer selection is excellent, with a good range of well-kept ales and lagers. We also enjoyed a delicious meal.Whether you're looking for a quiet pint, a hearty meal, or a place to catch up with friends, The Trout inn is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended!

Booked a table for seven of us for a reunion onThursday lunchtime. A fabulous day with pre-drinks on the Terrace before lunch. What a beautiful spot. Lovely intimate table with great food and general ambience of a very high order. Thank you very much to Alice and her team.

We had a lovely drink on the terrace. Then a delicious meal inside. Staff were excellent. Food delicious. Only slight downside was that main meal served in a bowl. So difficult to eat, with a knife and fork. What ever happened to plates, which work really well?

Great tasting food. Service was good too until they forgot to serve our dessert.. we tried salt and pepper squid, sea bass, crab sandwich, and coconut sorbet..all tasted amazing! We had a great time, lovely outdoor seating arrangement...also, lovely walks nearby, free parking..all in all a great experience

They won't heat up baby food in a sealed container due to "cross contamination". Idiots.

Great ambience and the sudden realisation that I was basically _in_ La Belle Sauvage was a bonus.

A lovely old pub that has been sympathetically extended over the years, with pleasant riverside seating. Lots of nicely arranged flowers outside and a nice interior, with armchairs making up half the seating. Prices for drinks were high when we visited, so only stayed for one. Worth a quick visit.

We had a lovely Mother’s Day meal. Our server was Nell and she was brilliant - very friendly and didn’t make us feel any time pressure on a busy day! I believe the Chef that was working was Michal; the food was amazing. Highly recommend.

Its not often that you can wholeheartedly say you had a five star experience, but when we dined at The Trout Inn a few weeks ago on a day trip to Oxford, we thoroughly enjoyed it from the moment we walked through the door. The natural setting -beautiful. The interiors of the inn -cosy and inviting. The food -shout out to our chef Doru as my dish of pan fried fish was delicious and well balanced in flavours. Special commendation to our waitress Alice W because from start to finish she was attentive, warm, friendly and made our dining experience all the more pleasant and enjoyable. We will be back!

Midweek lunch at the Trout in Wolvercote. We ordered Ribeye steak with chips & green salad with steak. Presentation good, nice atmosphere. Unfortunately half of the ribeye steak was chewy which was a shame as the other half was good. We ordered mini pudding with coffee this was very nice. Lucy who was our waitress was very attentive.

Food was lovely and plentyful. Make sure you take you appetite with you if you order a roast...

Have been there twice. Great evening both times.

My friend and I got the steak sandwich she got it rare and I got medium rare both came well done and drowned in horse radish dipping sauce and chips were good. It was meant to be ciabatta but came in some seeded soggy brown bread

This is consistently some of the best pub food I've had. The pub itself is gorgeous and the staff are always excellent.

Food good if pricey. Young enthusiastic staff making an effort. The music was loud and not befitting of the customer demographic - clearly chosen by and for the young staff.

Absolutely amazing place! The property is unbelievable inside and out, with amazing views. The staff were friendly and very accommodating to my mushroom allergy. Our large party was seated in an exquisite back dining room. I felt as if I had stepped into one of Tolkien's novels. The food was delicious and the menu was large and diverse. I can't wait to return when I visit the UK again.

Beautiful location for a restaurant. Food was spot on, couldn’t have asked for a better meal. Staff are all very friendly and attentive. Our waitress in particular, Kelly, was superb. Very polite and hard working. Would recommend this restaurant to family and friends.
