The Trout Inn in Oxford

Food and service were excellent. The restaurant is comfortable and nicely decorated. My only criticism is the acoustics in the extension are a bit difficult and make chatting hard because you can't hear well for the noise. But it's a great place and that won't stop me going again.

Spectacular riverside setting and beautiful old building. It is a bigger venue than it appears from the roadside, and potentially service is slower as lots of people to serve, and empty tables to serve.Great outdoor terrace. There is onsite free parking and wonderful walks adjacent.

Very enjoyable experience. Already planning the next visit.

A magnificent venue along the river in a character setting that smacks of history. Really busy and chef under pressure over lunch bookings. Book earlier rather than later and go outside to enjoy a post lunch drink to experience the whole of it. Highly recommended. Parking available but stepped interior.

Popped in just for drinks. The service was good, but rather relaxed. We ended up cleaning our own table as there was no one around to do it. Maybe they were short staffed, no idea. I like this place, so will probably visit again.

We went in for a Sunday lunch, service was okay but roast potatoes were raw and we had to ask for some cooked ones.

The filet steak was fantastic and cooked to rare perfection. Kelly was a wonderful attentive and warm server.

Very friendly and swift service. Knowledgeable staff and fantastic food (Sunday Lunch roast beef with all the trimmings) we ate in the restaurant. Great ambiance, location and architecture. I have already recommended it to family and will definitely be back soon. Thank you team Trout 😀

I've been to the Trout many times and would normally rate it a 4 or 5 stars. However there were a few issues this time around. We reserved a table in the bar, as we were taking two well behaved dogs. This table was given to someone else, despite the reservation. However they did seat us in the restaurant, despite not allowing dogs in there to make up for their mistake. This may have upset some other patrons though. They were all out of halloumi which is our favourite starter. They were also out of vanilla ice cream so all desserts that came with vanilla ice cream instead were served with honeycomb ice cream which is not always ideal. Despite these things the food was very good, service was adequate, though somewhat slow as they were quite busy and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. All in all a decent and positive experience but could of been better.

Our server Nell was excellent. She was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere of the pub was lovely. The food very nice and reasonably priced.

Great Sunday roasts and wonderful service.

Went for our office Christmas dinner and whilst the food and service were excellent they crammed us into a small area making it virtually impossible to move around or sit comfortably. On that basis I'd only go back there if we were guaranteed a lot more space. Also worth noting - it's an old building with very uneven flagstone floors and various levels with one or two steps up and down so not wheelchair or walking stick friendly Other than that, a nice location, plenty of parking across the road, river right outside the door.

The location is very nice, lovely views and inside isn’t crowded. The chairs are ridiculously comfy, I could fall asleep in them. Very nice food, we had a burger and pizza!

We love the Trout and visit regularly, just had festive family meal this weekend food was wonderful, staff very friendly and accommodating as we ordered from different menus. I was able to use my free meal voucher for my birthday too. Another great experience 😊

Lovely meal friendly great atmosphere

Can't rate this place enough; attentive courteous staff, classy Christmas atmosphere, warm and comfy room with a stunning view of the river. Apart from a psycho shouting chef in the kitchen, it was the perfect lunch.

Went for Christmas lunch with work. Our server was Holly and she was great but aspects of the food could be better. The roast potatoes seemed like they barely saw the oven. The carrots were massive and quite hard and there were barely any brussels. I also think the quantity of cheese you get with the cheese and biscuits is laughable given that they charge extra for that dish. The starter was lovely and the turkey was fine

We had a bad experience on a previous visit, earlier this year, and we received a voucher for £40 and an apology. We returned on Friday 29th November 24, and I am delighted to say that we (Table of five) had a wonderful and delicious lunch. Thank you for the great improvement and we shall certainly be back. We have several very good friends who were also, previously put off by the poor quality of the food. We all love the restaurant, after many years of visits and I shall be very happy to tell them all of our super experience and to return to the Trout Inn. I will add that our waiter Chris was a delight in serving us. A credit to the restaurant. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.

This was our quarterly visit to an older friend and we always go out to lunch at The Trout. Although the restaurant can be noisy when busy - and our friend now has reduced hearing - the staff are always welcoming and efficient and the food and drink very good. I am gluten intolerant and I am always well catered for and advised.

Lucy M was a great server and was very attentive to our table, Alex cooked our food and it was incredible. All service and food was great and can't fault it at all. Will happily be back in the future

Joseph, the chef, is superb. Very good Malbec Beef Pie, White chocolate Creme Brullee=To-Die-For-Scrumptious and BEST of all The VERY BEST Scallops and complimentary sauce I have EVER eaten! I am very old and have eaten many scallops in my life!! I'll come back for more!

Incredible scallops and beef croquets, beautiful spot with tasty beers. Easily the nicest pub in the area. Daniel and Sam were perfect hosts and we greatly look forward to our return.

Friendly staff and delicious food!

In the midst of storm Bert, we found ourselves here, and all I can say is it was our refuge from the ongoing calamity outside. And what a sanctuary it was - delightful food (by chef Dom I’m told), expert service (by the illustrious Jez), and the company was also quite excellent (although I won’t mention them by name). 5 stars, we will definitely be frequenting this enchanting spot again!

Very friendly staff, lovely location. Food was ok but slightly disappointing considering the price. Butternut squash soup was very oily rather than velvety. I didn't like the whole sage leaves floating in it. I asked for my fillet steak sandwich to be medium rare but it was well done. The meat was also surprisingly fatty and chewy in places, and had obviously been sitting a while before it was served as it wasn't piping hot.

Lovely warm atmosphere, good choice of food, orders came quickly and tasted as excellent as they looked. A really good family lunch!
