Fantastic Thai food, we will be back

After a long walk, this pub was exactly what we needed. The atmosphere is great and the service was good.

Average old pub.Bit scruffy. It's ok. The food seems overpriced. I got a tiny bowl of chicken with basil with a fried egg for £14. Almost tasted Thai but not quite.

This truly is some of the best Thai food I’ve had outside of Thailand. And the fact that it’s served in a quintessential pub, and I can have a Guinness on draught alongside is simply spectacular.

The green curry was too spicy and the red curry was tasteless, but the vegetables and seafood were delicious.

Best thai food restaurant in Oxford. Tasted amazing and loved the curry. Staffs were lovely and kind. Definately a pleasant dining experience and would reccomend to anyone visiting Oxford.

Service 10/10, they were very friendly and very attentive at all times. The potatoes and peas were very good but the fish left a lot to be desired, the batter was very greasy.

Staff friendly, cosy atmosphere. Took a star off for sticky tables which is always off putting and staff should be trained in how to pull a pint of guiness. There is an art to it after all.

Just looking for a quick lunch and thought we would give Old Tom a try. What a good decision! Beers were good but the Thai food was excellent. Great value, extremely pleasant and welcoming staff. A perfect lunch - we will return!

I'm disappointed. I went to treat myself to what I was hoping was going to be a delicious Thai lunch. It was a cold day and the restaurant was even colder since no heating was on. Friendly and kind staff, but the Thai basil stirfry with tofu was so salty that it was inedible, and the fried tofu was overcooked and therefore tough and dry. I threw it away. At £13, this just isn't good enough. I say that with sadness, because they're near my office and therefore it would have been great to have a good Thai option. Avoid and go to Chiang Mai on the High Street instead -- they haven't let me down in 25 years.

Edit to respond to the owner's response: Quit your lies, you told us we weren't allowed in the pub at all. This had nothing to do with where specifically we were sitting. The fact you can't take accountability and admit your staff were untrained says everything we need to know about your lack of ethics. While you're at it, get your illegal "guide dogs only" sign off your front door. I used to love this pub as a student, but I came back last weekend with my assistance dog and the staff were horrible to me, despite my dog wearing a clearly labeled assistance dog vest. Their archaic attitudes are reflected in the "guide dogs only" sign on their front door, which illegally discriminates against other types of assistance dogs protected under the Equality Act 2010. While they decided to let us stay in the end, we didn't want to reward their ableist behavior, so we left and went down the street to their competitors at the St Aldate's Tavern and had a much better time.

It's a publisher like atmosphere. Very friendly. I had soup. It was quite good. The vegetable spring rolls were a bit oily and overdone. Would go back again, mybfriends enjoyed their dishes.

Great food. Delicious Thai curry.

As a solo diner on a Friday night I was made to feel right at home by the staff. The beer was cold and crisp and the food very tasty and reasonably priced. Overall a very pleasant experience:)

We were looking for a nice quick lunch, and spotted this pub, and discovered in spcialises in Thai food. We were in a hurry, and asked for something fast! I had a lovely tasty dish with meat, noodles and fresh salad, and my partner had crab pieces with rice. Not cheap, but wonderful food and service

Really nice food and fast service. My only comment would be the spice ratings on dishes are slightly inconsistent. Both these dishes were rated as ** meaning spicy however one was hot and one was not spicy at all! Ask the waiter when ordering.

What a great concept. A full bar with authentic Thai food.

The food was decent but they were quite sneaky with the bill. Added an optional gratuity of 16% without asking us 15% and didn't include the 20% vat in the menu unlike everywhere else in England. The green curry was way more spicy than the red (almost inedible) despite them saying it would be the same.

Came to this small pub and wondered in to find the best Thai Food outside of Bangkok. The food was way beyond my expectations, just delicious. I ordered from the chef recommendations. I would highly recommend. There is seating outside, which is nice but metallic (my bum needs something softer). Great service too. Lovely little gem of a spot.

When I brought this to the attention of the lady at the bar, she was rude and simply changed the glasses without addressing the issue. I ended up wasting nearly £7 on something I couldn't even drink. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a good beer experience.

Ordered Fish and Chips. What can go wrong with this classic? Very Disappointing. Greasy fish like a sponge, overcooked, not tasty, not... no, nothing.....

I rarely leave any bad reviews but the food I had here was not good by any means. The flavour and textures were awful. The food wasn’t representative of the images on Google. The pad thai was all sticking together/mushy and extremely sweet. The inside of the spring rolls wasn’t cooked through.

Popped in whilst waiting for a bus , the staff were shouting towards each other in Thai it felt like you were intruding . We moved towards the front door so we could hear each other and then it was a struggle . Toilets dirty and tables sticky think I would rather wait at the bus stop

Thai food has no business being this good in a pub but alas the crispy pork belly reminded me of the Cantonese pork belly from home ❤️

Staff worked really hard and were extremely friendly given a very busy Saturday evening but my food - spicy noodles - was just terrible though friends who had green curry said theirs was good. Full of tourists. There are far better Oxford pubs.

Classic old Oxford boozer that now has a stronger focus on Thai food. Staff were very welcoming and the food was very nice. Not many people in when we went for lunch, but they were probably more focussed on Christmas shopping 🛒. Fun and I expensive considering it's location bang opposite Christ Church

I had the chicken wings and crispy pork belly at the Old Tom pub in Oxford and they were both fantastic. The chicken wings were perfectly cooked, with crispy skin and juicy meat. The sauce was tangy and sweet, and the wings were coated in just the right amount of it. The crispy pork belly was also delicious. The skin was crackling and the meat was tender and flavorful. I would definitely recommend both of these dishes to anyone looking for a great meal at the Old Tom pub. In addition to the food, the service at the Old Tom pub was also excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive, and they made sure that we had everything we needed. The atmosphere in the pub was also great. It was warm and inviting, and we felt very welcome. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at the Old Tom pub and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to eat and drink in Oxford

Lovely classic British pub. Service is excellent. The menu is Thai, we had a Green Curry and a Pad Thai - both were fantastic. If you’re in the area it is definitely worth visiting for a drink or for food.

Has the feel of an old style British boozer, but run by a Thai team, so specialise in Thai food. The food has been good when I've eaten here in the past. Been told the fish 🐟 and chip 🍟 is good too. You would usually an find Abbot Ale, Old Speckled Hen and Landlord on tap and would add that the ale is usually always in tip top condition 👍

Such a cosy, cute pub in the heart of Oxford! We visited several times during our stay in the city and loved it on every occasion! We tried their delicious Thai would and would highly recommend it!

Excellent Thai food in an old, quirky, British pub.

Always impressed by the restaurant's delicious Thai cuisine and friendly service every time I visited. If you enjoy spicy food, I highly recommend papaya salad (on its own or as part of a set menu with crispy chicken wings), Larb Tod, and stir-fry spicy pork belly with Thai basil. One of the best dishes for everyone to try is Superbowl, along with Salmon Choo Chee. A generous portion will also surprise you.

The Thai food was absolutely delicious, definitely not your run-of-the-mill fare. Service was a bit slow, but the atmosphere was still nice and relaxed. Can recommend for sure!

This is one of the best pubs in Oxford. If you are looking for good Thai food, I would highly recommend. My favorite dish is called ‘Laab tord’. Also, staffs are really nice.

As a Thai student I highly recommend. Authentic Thai food and local drinks. I recommend Thai lemon iced tea and Laab Tod!!!

We had a lovely meal for my husband's 50th as our daughter started in Oxford on Sunday. The food was great and the service fab. The even brought him a cake which was particularly lovely. They don't really do desert, so I think someone must have ran to get it which is very caring. Thank you a lovely evening

Nice place and very good beers. The staff mentioned they would close at 22h, but when it was so far their behaviour was ... typically British for this topic. Might be good for a meal as well.

Love the food, friendly service, good prices. It's a pub with a Thai menu, so maybe not to everyone's taste. But I think the food is excellent and the portions are very generous. I'd definitely recommend it.

A decent pub in the centre of Oxford serving a good range of oriental food (didn’t try as it was too busy). Beer was ok but not amongst the best I’ve tried.

Good Thai food at reasonable price. Slow service and timing of dishes could have been better to allow all 4 of us to receive mains at the same time. Addition of coconut rice would be awesome! Thank you.

Terrible, bland food. Curry with whole star anise, chips and no salt. Crispy pork belly almost broke my teeth. Soggy fish&chips. Wouldn’t recommend to any one.

Food was average ...little disappointed I could have made my meal myself it wasn't as spectacular as previous reviews stated . Expensive for the quality of food. Won't be going back...not sure why it has such a good reputation . Staff were great though!

Despite some average reviews we visited Old Tom in July 2023. We found the service and Thai food good and reasonable prices.

Popped in for a quick beer while waiting for a bus

Saw some reviews on websites and decided to visit here. On first glance looked like a regular pub but turns out its thai owned. Got the panang curry with rice and pad thai. In my opinion curry was quite salty even after mixing with rice, curry needed some tomatoes as its quite rich, but flavor and spiciness was fantastic. Pad thai was good as well although it lacked some wok flavor, cant blame them it’s not common in a European country. Sweetness and flavor were very good. Wish they provided some chili flakes for the spice. Highly recommended

Lovely pub with great Thai food. A little bit outside the usual tourist spots so it's not too overcrowded. Staff is very friendly and service is very quick; a great place to dine and sample some draughts. They even have great vegetarian and vegan options for their curries and other dishes. Awesome!

Went in ...said I'd like to order some food please......the waitress looked at me and said ok take a seat in the garden.......after 25 minutes of no service whatsoever I got up and left....absolute joke of a place

A proper boozer (good beer, no TV, no muzak) apparently run by a family of Thai origin, with Thai food on offer at affordable prices. (I did not eat, but teh food on other customers' plates looked good). I will certainly return. Despite being almost opposite Chist Church, there were not tourists when I visit, only locals, which is a good sign.

Tasty food. Thai cuisine. We have ordered stir fry rice with a prawn and soup Tom Kha. Soup was delicious, but small portions. Good location.

A small but reliable pub. It's never had the best Thai food in town, but it is the most cost-effective. Never bad, sometimes great, very filling and served in a traditional pub setting. The only real problem is that there's not much space so you either need to turn up early, late, or be patient.

Nice little place with a cool vibe. I like this kind of small places with personality rather than big commercial chain outfits. It's still big enough to accommodate quite a few people and even has an outdoor section in the back with tables. I went with a group of friends on a week night so it was not crowded but I expect that on a weekend the back porch will be a haven for the smokers. I think if you like old English pubs, this one is definitely worth checking out. Edit: Just found out they make iced tea fresh from scratch! Amazing!

Service was atrocious. We had to go to the bar 4 times to nag before we had menues, our table cleaned and beers served. And then the food was cold. For example the sate chicken and the chicken teriyaki. Which means it wasn't made to-order. And it wasn't tasty either. I will never be back.
