The Trent Lock in Erewash

2.5 hour wait for food on a sunny day with everyone else ordering beer. Never again. Not enough staff for the number of tables these guys have out. Absolute joke. We spent £100s but the food was bought out at different times so wasn't exactly a proper family meal. Either get more staff or close.

Couldn't find any staff couldn't find a menu, left in frustration.

Very disappointing, this place has gone down hill since coming here over the years, the food was expensive and undercooked, it was very basic not what you expect for a £20 meal. The service was underwhelming and the pub itself run down.

Seeing as ol' England was blessed with some sunshine recently, I decided to take a drive to Trent Lock and make a day of it, walking along the canal towards Attenborough Nature Reserve. However I wasn't able to walk all the way, due to there being repairs/work to the path. So I came back on myself and walked the opposite way, along the canal towards Shardlow. In a moment of spontaneity, I made the decision to stop off at The Trent Lock after a while, for a drink and some dinner. When I arrived back at the pub, there was still plenty of seating available outside, as the sun was shining and the wind was minimal, if present at all. I was served by one of the pleasant and super friendly ladies behind the bar, got myself a pint and headed to a table. After browsing the online menu, I went with the Chicken Katsu Rice Bowl and a Coca-Cola. I didn't have to go up to the bar to order, as the "Vintage Inns" pub was on hand, which made ordering from the table easy and quick. It might be a bit hit and miss at times, due to the connection (unless you're using the pub WiFi!) My drink came out soon after I had paid using the app, and then after a short while, my food came out. The presentation was good, and the food was spot on! Loved the taste of the curry sauce, combined with the juiciness of the chicken, the crunch of the pink slaw and the broccoli also, alongside the sticky white rice. An enjoyable meal and filling too! The young chap who came to take my plate away afterwards, asked if everything was alright which was nice. A lovely pub, situated by the canal with free parking. All in all a great experience eating here, especially on a warm and sunny day. I'd be more than happy, to return again in the future and sample other delights from their menu... Many thanks!

All 3 portions of chips were raw in the middle. The katsu chicken was burt to a crisp and the rice that went with it was gloopy and stuck together like 1 big ball, absolutely disgusting and over priced. Avoid at all costs

Really lovely pub in a beautiful location. Staff are friendly, service is prompt and the menu offers a broad range for all tastes. Food is clearly labeked and staff check for allergies.

I very much enjoyed the atmosphere and staff. It was a nice night. It being located next to the canal is great for an after dinner walk. Update 18/04/25: I enjoyed another evening here. The staff is incredible. Food delicious. Cappuccino tasty. Management very engaging. Consistently a very nice experience and with such an incredible atmosphere we stayed until close enjoying music and our conversation.

Have been a few times and the food is always decent pub grub. They had run out of a number of things on this visit which was a little disappointing, but really not the end of the world. I was slightly taken back when the pineapple on my gammon was bigger than the meat! Perhaps I would have preferred a smaller bit that was properly warmed, but that's just personal preference. Lovely meal and would be back again.

A great evening the food arrived quickly and was up to the usual good standards. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

An amazing place, sympathetically furnished giving a wonderful atmosphere to this idyllically located pub. We stayed overnight in our Motorhome and had a lovely quiet nights stay. Prior to a good sleep we took some lovely canal and river walks to build up thirst & hunger. The beer garden was lovely in the sun and very welcome after a long walk. Later for dinner we ate inside. The food was stunning, fabulously tasty and well portioned. Service was efficient and welcoming by really confident staff. In an age where eating out is often overpriced and slightly disappointing Trent Lock bucks the trend…keep it up (bravo).

I will forever love this place and the service it provides. Incredibly kind and welcoming, I had Sophie as my waitress, and is probably one of my favourite waitresses, she spreads much joy and brightness to the pub. The overall atmosphere is warm and cosy, the food is very good, and well seasoned, compliments to the kitchen staff also 💖💖

Came here last weekend just as a little pub outing during the sunny weather and I was pleasantly surprised. Great food and really helpful staff - I was served on the bar by Lucie and she was really helpful and friendly, helped me decide on what to drink. I'll be coming back.

Our family of five just had an incredible experience at this beautiful destination! Traveling all the way from the West Midlands, we were absolutely blown away by how family-friendly this place is. The atmosphere was perfect for our three kids, who had a blast exploring and enjoying the surroundings. Now, let’s talk about the food it was far beyond our expectations! Each meal was delicious, with options that pleased even our pickiest eater. The quality and variety were impressive, making every dining experience a delight. But what truly stood out was the exceptional service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcome and taken care of, which is a rarity these days. It made our visit even more enjoyable. I can’t recommend this place enough for families looking for a wonderful getaway. We’ve already made plans to return, and I urge you to add it to your must-visit list. You won’t be disappointed!

Lovely little pub in a scenic spot. Shame the sunday roast wasn’t up to scratch. £20 for a few boiled veggies and 2 slices of beef is a bit of a rip off. So ye, great places for a few drinks but I’d avoid Sunday lunch.

Meal spoilt by a yelping dog throughout. Dog friendly, I know, but that was unpleasant. Lost our custom I'm afraid

Went for a birthday meal yesterday (Saturday) and enjoy the meal that much we ended up staying and moving outside to the beer garden our waitress sophie was very pleasant and helpful she found all 6 of us a bench outside to sit and help us all move outside she a credit to the pub and we all want to thank everyone but most of all sophie 😊 for making it a wonderful day

Ordered a buttermilk chicken burger 🍔 beautiful,sunny weather, all sat outside. Burger delivered tasted like from the day before,completely burnt and looking more like beef than chicken judging by the colour of the outside burnt. I had the same burger few weeks ago and it was lovely, it’s a pity that the quality is not the same.

Had an amazing Sunday roast today, served by Hannah who was polite, courteous and professional. Hannah could not have been more attentive throughout. Fantastic meal, fantastic setting and fantastic service. We will definitely be back. A big thank you to the team 🥰

Went on Tuesday evening about 7.30 so was quiet been before but this time food wasn't up to standard,the waitress was very friendly and welcoming and gave us a free drink to compensate but as the kitchen wasn't busy you would expect your food to be perfect.very disappointing experience this time.

V busy, long wait for food (50mins) that arrived overcooked. Rock hard batter on fish and vv dry. Our curry was ok Had to wait 5 mins to be seated as staff were dealing with complaining customer. Our waitress was v polite.

I've not been to a pub for a while (understatement), so after the initial shock of buying two drinks for £12 (I remember when it'd be under £3!) I enjoyed the food

Megan served my family tonight. We were at the Trent Lock to celebrate my brother's 74th birthday. Megan was very polite and efficient. All our meals were excellent. Beautiful food in lovely surroundings.

We booked a lunch for two people at 2pm, we arrived at 1.45pm and after finding a member of staff we were sat at our table. We ordered food and drinks by 1.55pm, weren't told about any delay in the kitchen or anything so assumed we'd be eating pretty soon. Then at 2.20pm we were told there were no wraps left, so we could have the wrap meal either in a sandwich or as a salad. Obviously that happens so no problem, a salad would be fine. Still no food at 2.45pm so go to find a member of staff to ask (worth noting that we were sat unattended the entire time, no one asked if we wanted more drinks etc). We are told the food is coming soon. Food finally arrived. My burger, chips and onion rings look like they've been thrown on a plate, not what you're expecting at almost £20 'fine dining'. My partners food arrives, basically the wrap filling thrown on a plate, no fries either. Member of staff literally didn't even acknowledge the delay. Not asked if we wanted sauces etc, almost like they're embarrassed by the whole thing. I go up to the bar, ask a member of staff for mayonnaise and where my partners fries are. Unfortunately I was spoken to very rudely, and told "yeah". No apology or explanation. My partner then finds someone else to ask, eventually we get the fries and mayonnaise, but by this point I'm already finished. Still no apology. We ask for the bill, and to be fair at this point we are apologised to and they agree to a deduction from the bill. We were told they were very busy, but every table around us seemed to be experiencing the same issues. So what was meant to be a nice lunch as a treat turned into almost 2 hours or awful service and being treated like an inconvenience.

I was really disappointed with the lunch service on Saturday 22nd March. I had booked for 13:00 and it was gone 15:00 before we were served. Resource planning is a simple task that most duty managers can handle. Rather than thinking of profits, it might be better to only seat people that the restaurant can handle.

Tiny portions at extortionate prices. I thought £8 for grilled chicken breast was good but I was extremely disappointed. You would get more breast off of a day old chick. I genuinely believe they cut a chicken breast into quarters.

Lovely pub with seating inside and outside. Had a pork belly which took over an hour to arrive. It wasn’t cooked properly, very soft on top and not crispy 🤮

Booking on the app was easy, although we did have to confirm that one of our party had a nut/seed allergy. So, surprised to seeds on the first course. Otherwise, lunch was excellent with an excellent standard of food and generous portions. Service was exceptional and the atmosphere relaxed. Great experience.

Fantastic place to stop off and eat a freshly cooked meal. COELIACS catered for with a great menu especially the fish and chips. I've been COELIAC for over 30 yrs. Staff are friendly and very helpful Looking forward to our next visit already.

Food was fantastic but only 1 member of staff at the ordering stations and bar. She was friendly but poor at her job. Spilling beer and letting people jump the que. Get more staff for the prices paid for food.

Great food atmosphere and service

Love nothing more that a stroll down the canal to the Trent Lock. Nice pub whether you are sat inside or out. Good drink selection but found the food quality lacking lately. Menu options seldom change with very limited vegetarian/ vegan options. Ordered a trio of bar snacks last time- cheesy garlic bread lacked both garlic butter and cheese, the halloumi fries were nice but the chipotle jam had been watered down into a tasteless runny liquid which dripped straight off the cheese fries and the chorizo was very salty. All in all disappointed. Will think twice before ordering food here again.

Very cosy pub, tucked away on the Trent bank. Surprisingly spacious but cosy at the same time. Decor is very nice, service very promt, prices are what you would expect for this type of venue

The situation of this establishment is lovely as is the interior . However the Indulgent Lasagne that my sister and I had the misfortune to order was appalling . Never in my 72 years have I been served up such a terrible meal .There was a layer of pasta followed by a thin tomatoey looking sauce that contained no beef and was in fact just slop . Followed then by another layer of pasta with cheese on top . If you go to this Inn to eat order the pie of the day if you can get one avoid the Indulgent Lasagne like the plague
