Excellent value Sunday roast dinner.

Normally we have a lovely Sunday lunch here, but last week the meal was dried up. The potatoes were rock hard and I could barely tell what the vegetables were supposed to be! I took a bite on a shrivelled up something and it was a clove of garlic! Not up to their usual standard. When I politely complained we were not happy, the waitress said she would tell the chef but we never even got an apology, let alone a discount, despite us leaving half the meal.

Really nice coaching Inn that actually doesn't look like every other identical wetherspoons style pub, despite being part of Greene King. Great food and atmosphere

Everything was amazing and food was incredibly scrumdiddilyumptious but there was one waiter who was very rude to our table and others but ours specifically. She eye rolled customers and death stared us. We asked her to take our orders politely for dessert but replied rudely and never came back, we were waiting for about an hour for her to arrive but never did.

This is, by far, the best pub in the area. The food is always good, regardless of which chef is cooking. The bar/waiting staff actually know what they're doing and provide a polite and friendly service - overall a high standard of customer service. The drinks are served in the relevant glasses, the plates are warmed before serving and the prices are right for the drinks and food. I get regular offers which sometimes includes a freebie drink. What more could you want?!

Went for a birthday meal with family.. the Food gave 3 of my family food poisoning and one being pregnant- spoke to assistant manager today on phone and he didn’t even apologise.. shocking to be honest! ( the chicken fajitas)

Husband and I eat here alot and haven't had any problems with the food until tonight!! He had the cod, chips and peas, fish was well over cooked and did not taste like it usually does. I had the hunters chicken and the chicken was very thin and over cooked, I did not eat it all. They were busy, but I now know why they did not ask us how the meal was!! Personally if I worked there I would not of let it leave the kitchen just on its appearance

Booked our visit in advance as we were gifted a voucher for Greene king, wish we had tried somewhere else. We were given a round table as you walk in, surrounded by people standing having a drink and being rowdy, also a dog sat next to me watching me eat. I know its a pub but when you book in advance you would expect a table in the actual restaurant. Food was poor, I ordered a mixed grill, meat was cold, peas were not edible, onion rings were hard. Wife ordered a halloumi skewer, the halloumi was chewy like rubber. Food came out quickly, drinks not so quick. Service was poor, probably because they were rushing around so had no time for you. My wife ordered a cocktail, which was a waste of money, very watered down with lots of ice which made it tasteless, like a weak cordial. Overall, we wouldn't go back. There's much cheaper pub grub up the road and the food/service is alot better. **Update - emailed the below email address as requested. After 2 weeks I've still had no response.

We are a group of oap old school friends and to say we're a bit rowdy would be an understatement This review is solely for our beautiful waitress Neve Think we might have scared her a little bit to start with but soon got used to us. She was funny VERY patient and an amazing waitress. She made our already good night that little bit better So thank you Neve and I really hope you are working next time we visit. X

Excellent staff and service let down badly by overcooked chewy rump steaks and a very poor Katsu sauce. Really nice Abbot ale. Don’t think we will be returning anytime soon based on this visit.

My husband and I visited with four friends for dinner on Boxing Day. .Food and service met our expectations. However after ordering a non alcoholic gin and tonic at our table I was horrified to find I had been served a full strength gin. Fortunately I suspected from the taste that this was not alcohol free, and queried it with the waitress who confirmed the error but gave no explanation. The drink was replaced but does but address the serious error and potential consequence. Future customers should be aware.

We walked into an unfriendly welcome at the restaurant the man behind the bar who served us was miserable. Once we sat down with drinks a member of staff came over and removed the table from us saying she needed it so we had nowhere to put our drinks on incidentally (the table that was taken nobody was using it so she could have let us use it whilst we were there)! Bad service won’t be going back or wouldn’t recommend it.

Christmas Ale was good and well kept and tasted good. Our group went for food and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had a nicely cooked steak. They had a few items not available on the menu, but the pub was busy, so not unreasonable. We stayed for the Christmas quiz which was very entertaining.

Great pub on the edge of Sawley. Came here with my partner for a drink and a small veggie meal. Staff very attentive and friendly. Nice atmosphere and food very tasty. Can't wait to go back.

What a gem of a pub. Food is beyond delicious, service was amazing and efficient. Teaghen our server was funny, knowledgeable and a brilliant member of the team what a welcoming hostess. A pub above others in the area, a real diamond. Feels like home :) Will be back again. Would recommend the trio roast.

Pleasantly surprised, having passed by this pub numerous times, but until today, we'd never been in. My wife and I called in midlweek for a quick late lunch and were impressed from start to finish. We were met by a friendly member of staff who invited us to pick any of the vacant tables before returning a few minutes later to take our drinks order - we also ordered food at the same time as we had already chosen from the lunch menu that runs until 5pm Drinks (lager & ale) arrived a couple of minutes later, served in branded glassware, and were spot on, with the lager colder than the ale. Food was another 10-15 minutes. The fish and chips were excellent, a decent sized portion served with a choice of peas. The mini mixed grill was of a similar standard. Sausage, gammon, chicken breast, chips, peas and an egg all cooked to perfection. The staff member left a basket of sauces on the table for us and returned mid way to ensure all was ok. For a shade over £25 all in (the ale was on special, so only £2.50), very good value. Desserts or a starter could be added for an extra £3.50 each.

We went for my husbands birthday lunch on a Sunday. We all had the trio of meat. When the food came it wasn't very warm, plates hadn't been warmed and the veg was virtually raw and the meat was quite tough. Coffee wasn't warm either, but the dogs had a nice feed with the meat. The bill was £87.51 We won't be coming back anytime soon as we don't like wasting hard earned money

The young lady who served ourselves tonight went above and beyond her duties. She made sure the 4 children in our party were entertained with colouring and crayons. She was a very bubbly and friendly person and we couldn’t fault anything about her this friendliness we noted was to ALL customers within the restaurant. We would definitely return.

Unfortunately, the steaks weren't cooked very well (ordered rare, no colouring on the outside) . I'm glad I didn't order a tomahawk, or i would have been highly disappointed for the price.

The food was good standard which arrived in a decent time after ordering. Drinks did take a long time to arrive after ordering The reason for the low score is because on arrival I asked a member of staff where are we allowed to sit and her response was " I don't know I am on my break so you will have to stand there and wait a few minutes for my someone else to find you a table" The member of staff then sat down on her phone and made us wait for one of her colleagues to come along and show us to a table which was roughly a 2/3 minute wait. I found this to be very poor customer as the member of staff could not even be bothered to quickly find one of her colleagues to ask them a quick question about seating arrangements instead just sat there on her phone and refused to help us paying customer. Due to this poor customer service I will not return

A very pleasant evening meal in the beer garden. Ordered directly from the app with no fuss. Very quick and pleasant service, and the food was excellent, if a little pricey. I had the Ultimate SOLO burger, a refreshing twist to not have a stodgy brioche bun.

Awful customer service by one guy behind the bar. They didn't stock the drink I wanted, so instead requested a large glass of sauvignon blanc and was charged £9! When I got back to our table, I looked at the drinks menu and saw 3 options I could have been offered but wasn't. Could have only paid £6.50 . Customers should be given the options before staff decide to go for the most expensive one on the menu.

I've been visiting this pub for 30+ years it's a lovely pub but recently the food has been going down hill

Disappointing Went for a meal tues eve, ( 4 people) was not busy. Starters were very nice and hot. Mains came out, at best half food was luke warm other half cold. Sent items back. Waited over 15 mins for food to return whilst watched them serve at least 2 other tables their meals. By the time our food arrived back we had finished the other half of our meals, so was pointless really. The waitress was pleasant but changed once we said we werent happy. Was offered puddings free, refused. Some money was taken off bill. I have since eating been unwell all night with bad stomach. Probably wont return

Me and my partner came here for tea on Saturday, as a youngish couple on a child free night, we were sat next to a big family who were obnoxiously loud with children who were unruly, throwing things on the floor and screaming for the fun of it, now the restaurant isn't to blame for the family but why place us in a dank little dark corner next to them? But that was the least of the issues, I paid good money for a ultimate platter where the food was inedible, barbecue chicken? More like barbecue chicken skin with bland meat that was so dry I drank a pint of coke for just the chicken, the sides were bland the rosemary chips never saw any rosemary, the mac and cheese was tastless the chicken wings were wet and mushy, and worst of all mini ribs apparently means 1 rib so hard my knife couldn't get through the meat... I didnt eat even half... I was done... the waitress took the food and tried to give us a dessert menu... if you can mess up chicken that badly then no chance on cake... really disappointed

Update, not as good on this visit, the starter was ok, but the mains obviously cooked to early as the skewer was cold and the chicken was dry and didn't taste nice so I didn't eat the chicken, On the whole we enjoyed our visit, fairly quick service, the only thing is the skewers and salmon dishes were cold but well presented I do think that it's a bit pricey for what you get.

Second visit after a nice first experience. Food is consistently good although on the first visit, a filet steak initially came out cooked to death (medium rare was the request) but it was handled nicely and the replacement was spot on. Yesterdays visit was also nice, with some lovely tasting food. The place is pleasant and the atmosphere is relaxed. The only negative really was the service was lacking in a couple of areas. The main course came out and the first course clutter had not yet been cleared, which lead to a bit of a kerfuffle (although no drama). The female server may have been having a bad day and was lacking the typical niceties that one would hope for and it felt odd that she turned on the charm only when she came to take payment. It really wasn't a huge deal but it took the edge off what would otherwise been a great dining experience. The star of the meal was the Ultimate Burger and in particular the flavours of the burnt ends and the beef dripping gravy which were amazing and actually elevated the dish to the point that each of us agreed that it was probably the best burger that we have ever had. Despite the minor niggles, we'll definitely be back.

Decent atmosphere. Our waitress was professional. Usual pub grub on the menu. My wife had chicken and rainbow grain salad and I had 8oz rump steak. I asked for my steak rare and it was cooked to perfection. I added peppercorn and brandy sauce, which was delicious. The salad was lovely but my wife felt that it could've done with more dressing. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because on both occasions when we ordered drinks they were slow to arrive. Overall, I would recommend and would happily return.

Partners meal was sent back as items where cool. My fish and battered fish was poor. Fish not freshly battered and a bit watery . 18 small to very small chips on the plate. Won't have a meal there again.

Visited early morning, so pub was quite, very clean and tidy had a well kept pint served by a pleasant and talkative lady.

It’s alright, it used to be excellent but it’s just a chain pub with the same menu as everywhere else and incredibly slow service.

Not the usual excellent service we normally get here. Service very slow although we were told there would be a 30-40 min wait, it was a good hour and people who had ordered after us where served before us. Very disappointing Father's Day.

Visited here for a meal with two other friends. It’s a Green King pub so you know what to expect food wise and here it is cooked nicely. Typical of many places at the moment they seem to be low on staff. So at the time of visiting (a thurs evening) service was slower than it should be, but this wasn’t an issue for us and the staff who served us was very friendly. There is a good outside beer garden which was popular on a pleasantly warm evening. The car park isn’t that large so during busy periods there may be difficulties finding a parking space. Alternative parking may be available near to Sawley church about 100m away. Overall I can recommend this pub.

Very poor amount of salmon for the price ….. I think it’s very cheeky to charge that amount for nothing … I personally am very put off to eat here again!!!
