Durham Ox in Erewash

Went for dinner last night for sisters birthday. What a fantastic find. The food was unbelievably good, beautiful meal, cooked perfectly, couldn’t fault it, the flavours were sublime. The atmosphere great, the staff brilliant. So welcoming and made sure everyone in the place were happy. Loved the spring menu, duck starter!!! OMG, the lamb main, If you are ever in the area, find time to visit, you will not regret it. Top marks Durham Ox, I will be back for sure. Thank you for making my sisters birthday special. xxx

Went here on Sat 19th April with a couple of friends. The food here was nothing short of beautiful, couldn't fault anything. Truly one of the nicest meals I have ever eaten. Why the owners have set up where they have is beyond me, but hey ho each to their own. Fabulous food...five stars

exceptional customer service, food was beautifully presented and very tasty. We were a party of 12 celebrating two birthdays and they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and even brought out two birthday brownies for the birthday boy and girl. We will definitely be going back.

A Saturday visit by a large family group. We were well served by the staff who were friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely superb - particularly the lamb. It was one of the best meals we've ever had. Well done to the chef. We loved the whole experience even if our tirimsso was unconventional.

Valentines meal, we choose the chateaubriand sharing menu which was absolutely stunning, our compliments to the chef!

Chose off the lunch set menu which was good value for delicious food and good ambience. Good service and lovely table by the fire. Always consistently good and friendly staff.

The lunchtime special menu was rather limited but helpings were generous and the food was high quality and delicious. The setting and overall ambience were great. We'll return.

A most enjoyable quiet (ie. no muzak) lunch with friends. Unhurried but efficient service with excellent food.

Four of us had Sunday dinner there yesterday, and we really enjoyed it. Three of us had lamb, mint sauce, with all the accompanying vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, and stuffing, and one had the roast pork. All perfectly cooked and well presented. My compliments to the chef! The main course was followed by four desserts which I highly recommend, two chocolate concoctions and two Bailey's. The staff were young, chatty, and gave good service. Afterwards we had coffee and tea. The whole experience was good, and we shall definitely return.

Went for a quiet lunch for two. It was perfect, warm and friendly service, nice ambience, delicious food. I can recommend the Ox Seafood Platter.

Absolutely Fabulous Highly recommend the seafood sharing platter but you need to be hungry. Staff were amazing despite being so busy. Really good value for money compared to a famous name we’ve dined at recently too

Outstanding in every respect. Located in a lovely spot, with ample parking spaces at the back of the pub. Amazing vibe inside and very cheerful servers who made us feel welcome. Incredible food and a wonderful wine list. We will return.

Highly recommend dining at the Durham Ox at Crayke. Staff were very welcoming, service was professional, atmosphere was warm and comfortable and the food was well presented and tasted great. Did not have food in the restaurant but stayed there one night for a birthday party nearby the Accommodation is outdated & then bathroom was dirty definitely not worth the money Very disappointed by the whole experience.

Tasteful Christmas decorations and ambience. Great service, food excellent. 3 of us had the sirloin steak which was perfectly cooked. My favourite, local eating place. Midweek early dining is great value for money and a great dining experience.

The service and environment have always been exceptional however the food tonight was nothing short of superb. Every component of the meal complimented each other, the sausage role was something totally different and I loved it, the lamb was cooked to perfection and the sauce was a delight This was the best meal I've had in a long time

Fabulous evening at The Durham Ox last night 👌 We went with friends for our Christmas night out and really can’t fault it… From the minute we walked in we were greeted by super friendly staff and this continued all evening they couldn’t do enough for us, haven’t experienced service like it for a long time… As for the food, it was just superb, every course was delicious, can’t wait to go back.. Highly recommended…

The Durham Ox is always one of the places we look forward to eating at whenever we are in York. The service and the quality of food are always of a consistently high standard. The atmosphere is warm and friendly so we are always made to feel at home.

Always a great place to have lunch. Fabulous, friendly, helpful people on the team and the ambiance is everything you'd want from a traditional country inn. We had set menus and they were very good indeed, and there's pretty much everything on the main menu that anyone could possibly desire. It's a top quality place.

Excellent lunch, good service (although young lad did confuse turkey and pork). Wonderful touch with deserts for the birthdays we were celebrating - already booked for March next year.

The food was as good as ever, it is the start of Christmas bookings so the service was slightly slower than normal. A very enjoyable evening!

2nd time to the Durham OX. It was so good the 1st time we brought friends with us this time. Service is great. Very attentive staff. Atmosphere is comfy and cozy. Food is fantastic. The destination is about a 40 minute drive for us but absolutely worth it. I highly recommend anyone going for a visit. I look forward to our next one.

Lovely menu with a wide choice of Specials too. Excellent and delicious food. 3 of our party had the Ox Seafood Platter which is superb!! Good selection of beers and Cocktails and a good Wine list. Overall Very Happy (oddly we are back again next week!!!)

We visited today for Sunday lunch and we think this place is amazing. We were greeted and served by friendly and polite staff, they made us feel really welcome. 2 of us are coeliac so we need to have gluten free food, they were very knowledgeable about this. The food was delicious and really high quality. I would definitely recommend.

Had y brother's Golden Wedding lunch at the Durham Ox at Crayke. Food and service were excellent and it is a very pleasant place to eat. Good value for money also. Would thoroughly recommend for a special event.

We had the most wonderful meal and dining experience here for a family celebration. The food was exceptional, we had 3 courses and each one was of the highest quality. We travelled from Leeds and we’d heard good things about Durham Ox and our time there surpassed all expectations. Fabulous and attentive staff. Hats off to the chef. We’ve dined at Michelin star restaurants all over and this was on par for quality and presentation. 100% recommended and hope to return in the future. Thank you, Durham Ox!

The food here is great as is the service and the decor The only thing that struck me to be a little disconcerting was that our waitress’s fingernails and make up didn’t conform to standard Food Hygiene rules- ie. fingernails kept short and unpainted and minimal face makeup Her nails had to be WELL OVER 1” long (not to mention the eyelashes )

Just outstanding. Everything you’d hope for from a pub lunch, but delivered to perfection. Have been doing a run of guide Michelin places with my partner, my 10yo has picked up a keen interest and so I told him we could give the Ox a try, as he properly loves steak. And so we all headed there for lunch today. Shared a couple of starters - deep fried prawns with Asian salad and deep fried goats cheese with hummus peas and mint iirc - and they were tremendous. Goats cheese, light and airy, beautiful flavours, and the peas (etc) worked superbly with it. Mains of ribeye (small man), duck (me), mushroom burger (partner) and again all of them were bang on. Small man said it’s the best steak he’s had, and the odd it he gave me was superb - melt in the mouth, good whack of chargrill, beautiful. Duck likewise! Service beyond superb throughout. Attentive, friendly, helpful. Chose not to bring the dogs, but offers some dog friendly tables 🏆 Really lovely experience, 100% would repeat.

Famous old hostelry is enormously popular. However it's not cheap. Sunday lunch at £25 is a bit steep. Delicious local roast beef. Delicious gravy/jus. Rather small Yorkshire pudding. The roast potatoes were rather hard and, although the vegetables were good - especially the honeyed carrots and cauliflower cheese - the portions were small and not really enough for two people. Marvellously retro Crepes Suzette rounded things off in style. When the ice cream hit the Grand Marnier it was sheer bliss. Attentive service from the young staff and dog friendly. The Ox is an old favourite for a treat.

This is a great spot. Went for our wedding anniversary. Super friendly service and the food was excellent. New menu yesterday and couldn’t fault it.

Enjoyable meal for 6 in the main bar area; our guests really liked the feel of the room...except for the musak, which should have been more background... so don't sit under the speaker in the corner.

Very good pub food. Not an overly extensive menu but everything was very well done.

On a really busy Friday evening the staff were really friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was lovely and there were plenty of choices. It was just a really nice evening all round. Would definitely recommend. Lovely buzzing atmosphere and great food. Definitely worth a visit.

Spent four nights on holiday in the area, and went to the Ox twice, once for Sunday lunch and once unbooked for evening meal. Excellent food both times, and staff friendly and welcoming.

Myself and my partner had a Sunday roast each here yesterday. We both had pork belly starter which was absolutely gorgeous and cannot be faulted. I had the roast beef lunch whilst my partner had the lamb. Both our dinners were nice but the roast potatoes felt like they’d been re-heated after being left standing for a while. I had a couple of Peroni’s and neither of us had desert but the bill still came to £97. The starters were £11 each and as I say, we couldn’t fault them but £25 for a roast dinner seems and was steep for the size of meal we received. They were tasty but I don’t think they were £25 tasty. The place itself is a nice setting and the atmosphere was decent, though.

The pub is beautiful and the food was tasty, however the roast was on the expensive side and we found it fairly average. That being said the starter and the desert were very tasty. Only 3 stars for the service as we were not provided with a wine list (the wines are on a board on the wall but this was not visible from our table and we weren’t aware of it until we saw it when leaving) when I asked for a recommendation for a glass of wine, I was advised to go for the Malbec, which unbeknownst to me was the most expensive wine, coming in at £16 for a large glass and it was not a particularly nice. Besides this, the service was good.

The Chataubriand was delicious and the accompaniments lovely too. We asked for it to be cooked ‘medium’ and I was just a little too rare, but not enough to complain. I also thought that a simple rocket and parmigiana shavings side salad would be better suited than the ceaser salad it came with which was too overpowering. A lovely meal out though. I was too full for dessert!

Very nice food in a beautiful pub in a superb country location. Excellent value menu with a huge variety of dishes. A quiet day so the ambience was lacking. Staff were professional and polite, but not particularly engaged - a bit perfunctory, but maybe it was an off day for them.

When looking for a quality dining experience, the first place I think of is the Durham Ox, and our supper yesterday evening did not disappoint! We received a warm welcome and unobtrusive yet attentive service. There is a lovely wine selection (also by the glass) and delicious food! My friend and I were celebrating her birthday and enjoyed a wonderful fish platter, with the addition of Lobster Thermidor. Utterly scrumptious! I’m sad we didn’t have room for pudding but will certainly be returning. Keep up with the great service. It’s great to see Michael continuing to set the bar with his friendly and hospitable team.

Lovely country pub, and much more! Great traditional charm and brilliant food menus - with an amazing value set menu at lunch. We had a fab time, the staff were lovely, helpful. And we weren’t rushed, it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Would 100% visit again!

We have been before to The Durham Ox and we always enjoy it. This was a midweek lunch visit. Food generally good as are the surroundings and ambience. Staff good but a little rushed this time and could hear constant personal 'chats' near the kitchens. Fair price. One thing which I think does need looking at are the toilets which are dated and need attention. The gents urinals certainly need a refurb. However, overall nice surroundings and good food at a reasonable price.
