Great drinking pub, best pint of Bass anywhere

This a lovely pub tucked away in the village of Ockbrook with lots of little 'snugs' as well as a well-appointed restaurant. It has an indoor skittles alley which is ideal for a great night out. A good selection of beers, friendly, welcoming staff and a tasty comprehensive menu. Well worth a visit and why not book a skittles evening as well with friends

Visit once a year for a conference and after a 3hr drive it’s always good to see happy positive staff. The service is always very good, as is the food. Wish we had pubs like this down south!

What I'd call a good old fashioned pub a lovely range of ales and the pub food here is excellent. Also hold events such as Dionysus which was excellent.

Quite an old fashioned pub run by a friendly family with a good selection of well priced drinks, food available is good and pretty well priced in comparison to other pubs.

First time eating at the Royal Oak, and I was delighted with the meal, good portion size great flavoured food and excellent value for money. Also the staff were brilliant, friendly, professional and very helpful

5 mins drive from M1, 3 hours ish north of London. Fantastic old fashioned pub, with beautiful interiors, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. Camra award winner. Look forward to returning.

Very old-fashioned "traditional" pub. We ordered food and were the only ones in the restaurant! I ordered the steak and ale pie, small portion, which is fine, but the edges were dried. Obviously, cut into portions before reheating. My partners steak, which should have been medium, was very rare, not rested... blood running all over the plate. He could eat it, but I wouldn't have been able to. Pleasant staff but won't return, sorry.

This place is up there with the great landmarks in the world such as slix burger, the great wall of china, Eiffel tower and great barrier reef This experience was all made for me by the worker Joel Staniford, defiantly the best customer service I have ever received from a waiter. would recommend (you should also give him a raise)

What a gem! The food was tasty and homemade and the staff were friendly. Lovely atmosphere with a real nice feel about the place.

Great old traditional pub. Great food, service and atmosphere. Value for money too! Loved it!! Will recommend it to anyone. A bonus 13 card 'Bingo' game on the night made our evening absolutely fantastic fun. Check out the specials for your food.

Stopped for lunch after we had been to Download festival. What a lovely welcome we received and the food was very tasty and excellent value. They have a brilliant veriaty of beers and the owners and staff couldn't of been more helpfull and friendly.

Here for regular beer festival. One of the best real ale pubs in the area. Great beer, great food, as friendly as they come. If you haven't been before you need to try it

We came here whilst visiting some friends and it was exactly what we were looking for in a traditional pub. Friendly staff, great pie and a really affectionate cat.

Always a pleasure to visit The Royal Oak

No football, no music, no screaming kids, good food, great beer. The only negative for me was the cats roaming free throughout the pub. Staff tried to keep under control.

Lovely customer service and delicious fish and chips.

I've been recently a few times with two friends for lunch and an evening meal. We have all enjoyed and wanted to go back so I am very surprised by the last review. Nice calm atmosphere, lovely food (shame I didn't take photos) lovely steak baguette meal for lunch yesterday, lovely service always friendly and helpful I think. I would never go and eat on my own somewhere but genuinely feel I could do that here. Thank you

Lovely food and the staff were very friendly. The prices have gone up so a little more expensive every time we visit. The bar prices are more London than Buxton.

The model pub. Can't be bettered. But then they do have my picture on the wall.

Ah what a lovely place, very traditional. The pretty little hidden gardens. Scrumptious high quality ham cob delicious chips with a pint of shandy and we only went out for a quick walk, what a find. Having moved to the area just before Covid we are now starting to find some real gems. The staff were really lovely.

First time I have been here. 3 adults and 4 children. It's a really nice place looks old and original got lots of character. There is a separate garden for children and adults and adults only. Play stuff is more suitable for younger children, sandpit with toys, seesaw, 2 swings , climbing frame and playhouse. More importantly the beer was good 3 real ales which were well kept. Plenty of choice of other drinks. No complaints from me. I'd like to go back to have food there.

Lovely well looked after pub. It has nice little bit tired kids play area with around 8 tables. There is an adult garden aswell opposite the kids play area. Outdoor toilets which remain open most of the time are not the cleanest but will do. The pub itself is nice inside it has 3-4 seating zones in it including the bar area which serves soft drinks and alcohol. The restaurant itself has a specials board which is regularly changed, plus a lovely menu including steak which may I say was beautifully cooked. Aswell the staff were very friendly based on the fact they close sometimes in the afternoon, they said we could leave our glasses on the table outside the pub entrance and let us stay in the play area/family seating. Totally would recommend it

Gammon was slightly greezy had to send bk for further cooking, mum said her wrap was nice, beef pie nice but really small portion mash and beans nice food but basic and over priced.

A trip out for lunch with my dad, our first try of this pub, had never been before we just saw some good reviews on here so decided to give it a go, we wasn’t disappointed!! The food was lovely & home cooked to a high standard, the menu wasn’t massive but kind of what you want for a lunch time meal anyway, still a very good selection & also was some decent starters & desserts on offer as well including homemade scotch eggs! The drink selection is good & I enjoyed a lovely pint of Bass ale. Pub Recommended!!

Really like this truly old tradition pub with fine ales, homemade food, Sunday roasts with loads of vegetables, fish & chips to die for, good parking, outside seating, lovely land lady. I have become a regular.

This is our third visit for a family Sunday lunch and it is always a great visit. The vegetarian options in particular are excellent and that counts for a lot as one of us is a vegetarian. Delicious food served really nicely and with just enough to manage one of their yummy deserts. The Royal Oak has everything you expect from a traditional British Pub plus great food. THANK YOU.

Great menu choice cope for vegan and vegetarians too..

Quaint pub with lots of small rooms to eat and drink inside. One of the rooms can be used for functions such as discos or weddings. There is also a seating area outside for drinking and eating but this I feel is part of the carpark. Prices for food and drinks are reasonable and food is delivered quickly. The toilets are, however, outside again near the carpark which is bad in cold wet weather. Staff are nice and friendly. The venue is worth a visit

A timeless gem! This multi-roomed pub serves excellent Real Ales, the Bass is one of the best pints I have ever had!

A long awaited return to one of our favourite pubs (Camera pub Gold Award) a lovely pint of Harrington accompanied by fish and chips. Wish we lived locally as the Oktoberfest looks very tempting!. A real community pub, nice children’s play area, soon to be open sensory garden.

This is a pub from a different time, run by a family team. Great beer, good food, and lots of old world charm. They also have lots of different events. This is how pubs used to be many decades ago,long may it continue

I have been a fan of the Royal Oak for a decade or so. Even when I've lived elsewhere in the country, when back in Ockbrook, I like to go for lunch. The welcome is always warm, the football banter is always entertaining, there is a wide variety of well kept beers and other drinks, and the food is home cooked to perfection. The Royal Oak is a great place to visit.

Tasty homecooked food, attentive wait staff, reasonably priced

Visited royal oak whilst passing through ockbrook, we fancied some real home made food so gave it a try. The pub is a proper old fashioned pub, serving real ales which is a nice change. The 2 members of staff were a friendly pair ( guessing a married couple ) who greeted us with sirs and madams. We said we would like to eat and we opened a tab. The menu was nice, proper hearty meals, home made steak and ale pie, with potatoes or chips with veg, fish and chips, lamb chops, bacon chop, that kind of stuff. We both fancied the pie but unfortunatley they only had one left so the wife had that with potatoes, i went with the fish and chips. The pie looked amazing when it came out, a big individual pie. Rammed with steak and gravy, i had to pinch a bit and i wont lie when i said i was jealous of the wifes food. My fish and chips was good, but hers was fab. My only complaint was that i dont think they expected to be so busy on a tues night, but a well known pub nearby shut for covid so they seemed to get there trade so alot of the menu was unavailable. The food was good but we had to wait 30 mins for puddings,( again i think due to busy ) but bigger pudding sizes are needed with more custard and in a bowl not a plate. Would deffo go again
