We had high expectations as family had been pre-covid and said it was great. We booked well ahead, when we arrive we did to like the location of the table offered, next to the reception desk so would have been too busy in that area. We asked for a window seat but had been told these were all pre-booked (no-one said you could prebook these when we booked). We were show another table which was good. The setting is unique, the name Treehouse is perfect, it does however need a little love as with some extra touches it could be amazing. I agree with other posters that in winter it would be great with fires burning. Staff were quite cold and disengaged apart from a gentleman who I think may have been the Manager, he was smiley and friendly. We enjoyed the food, simple basic pub style food but for a quick lunch it was OK

Every time we’ve visited the Alnwick Garden, we’ve struggled to get into the Treehouse for food, so we booked well ahead and went early in their lunch sitting. From the outside, it looks really special, inside isn’t quite as amazing but I imagine in the winter with the fire going it’s super cosy. The place couldn’t have been more than a quarter full when we arrived. We were shown to our table and then waited 15 minutes to have our drinks order taken. Two of the soft drinks we asked for weren’t stocked, even though the cafes in the garden have them in plentiful supply. The starters were good to be fair. The mushrooms were very moreish and well cooked and my partner enjoyed the soup. It took almost 40 minutes for our mains to arrive after finishing the starters. For a burger and a steak, this is too long. When they did arrive, we were very disappointed. The burger was dry, gristly, and tasted as cheap as anything. The chips were no better than frozen ones. My partners flat iron steak oooked more like diced beef that had been fried - awful. It is sold as coming with chimichuri but there was nothing, resulting in a dry, blank plate of food as the salad also came with no dressing at all. For the prices charged, we expected better, and there is a lot better very nearby. Also, we appreciate that this is supposed to be a treehouse, but someone going around with a sister would help the place look less infested with insects. Even the chairs have spider webs on them…

This is really frustrating to write as this place has SO much potential , and is set in the Alnwick gardens and next door to llidorei, so you could literally spend the whole day and night here. We came away for 3 nights to Northumberland, and booked the Treehouse as our only one night to dine out. Firstly we were a little surprised at the glum atmosphere, given it looked booked out for the foreseeable! We were last tables in at 4pm (which we didn’t realise dinner wouldn’t be served, only lunch still from the lunch menu) dinner is only served Fridays-Sundays. This was never communicated or stated this anywhere. There were 3 other tables and ours, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop, and they constantly played depressing music. Empty tables surrounding us. The food was the worst of all- frozen warmed up muck.better quality in spoons !! No salt that worked, kitchen ran out of normal condiments, and we all came away feeling sick from the chops being deep fat fried and microwaved warmed up meat. Big no no no!!!! My advise is to eat out somewhere actually worth going too, and stick your head in the treehouse to see how pretty it is, maybe have a coffee ! The treehouse itself and the setting so beautiful. Such a shame really is.

Aesthetically beautiful. Unfortunately, that’s the only positive. Food was terrible. (Think Wetherspoons but worse.) Service was slow. Prices were high considering how poor the food was. Asked the waiter for some condiments when the food came, never saw him again. Never again. Which is a shame because it has a lot of potential.

Not very often I leave a review and I honestly can't remember ever leaving a bad one but felt the need today. Whilst the treehouse is amazing to visit and see. The rope bridge is good fun and the staff are lovely but the food really let's it down. It was mediocre at best and expensive for what it is. Such a shame.

Looking at a few recent reviews maybe they had a bad week end of june but we had a great sunday lunch here. Friendly and efficient service, lovely food at a good price.

Have to echo others whereby it's the service that really lets this place down. The initial greeting was great but had 5 different servers in 90 mins and getting the bill paid took nearly half an hour! Not great having one staff member moaning loudly about a tourist group when we entered either. Food was okay. Nothing memorable and a little over priced for the quality.

I visited for lunch to celebrate my friends 70th birthday. There were several of us in the group and none of the group were happy with the quality of their meals. 3 of us ordered the fish and chips, which were totally inedible. The batter was so hard I couldn’t put my knife through it. I had to snap the fish in half with my hands, to try and take out the fish to eat that but the fish was completely dry and tasteless. The chips were like oven chips and really terrible quality. We complained to the waiting staff about our meals and on clearing our table, they could only advise that the chef apologised. We hadn’t eaten our meals due to how bad it was, and at no point were we offered the chance to order something else and still had to pay in full. I’ve never complained about a meal before, but really felt the need to write this review so others know to avoid on their special occasions.

Had lunch here as part of our day visit to Lillidorei/Alnwick Gardens with 4 adults and 1 child. Unfortunately I just felt the concept was much more suited to a winter evening dinner than a summer lunchtime - on a winter evening I can see it would feel cosy and interesting with the fairy lights and fires going. On a summer lunchtime it just felt like we were eating in cramped darkness, it was so dark it was hard to see my food. Food was totally fine but nothing memorable/exceptional. Staff were friendly but again not exceptional. I can see that some might enjoy it, but for me it was not strong enough for me to push a recommendation or visit again.

This was the second time I have eaten at the Treehouse unfortunately it wasn't as expected. The service was slow. The food was cold and uninspiring. The portions were small. There was four of us eating plus a child. Not one of us enjoyed our lunch. Considering the price point I don't think I will be coming back again or recommending. to others. This is such a shame as the venue is nice.

The burger was tasteless and very underwhelming. Chips were undercooked and greasy. The sort of food you’d expect from a burger van. Sticky toffee pudding was cold and tasteless except for the sauce. £20 for two courses - very overpriced for what you actually received. The front of house staff were very friend but young and inexperienced.

A treat for a special occasion from my partner. The place is unusual and cosy. The seating is hard and uncomfortable despite supplying cushions. The food wasn't outstanding. I had the chicken in thyme and spinach. It was average and overpriced in my opinion. My partner had a mixed grill that he enjoyed. The pudding was delicious - sticky toffee with honeycomb icecream. An expensive bill followed. I wouldn't return but don't be put off as it is an experience and just not my kind of place.

We were in the area so decided to make the most of it one Sunday and booked here for lunch. We've been a couple of times (years ago) and had fond memories. How disappointed we were. So typical sunday lunch menu - nothing out of the ordinary. The starters came (I had the scallops with black pudding). This was excellent actually and really nicely presented. The mains however. Sunday roast - the meat was ok. Not amazing, but absolutely fine. The roasties were under-done. The 'greens' was effectively a bowl of cabbage with some sugar snaps. The cauliflower cheese was completely tasteless - I don't know how?!? So an average but disappointing fare for main. My main gripe is the service however. It wasn't that busy - where we were sitting most the table were empty and there were at least 4 different members of staff that served us. However service was SLOW! We have two young kids and lunch took 3 hours!!!! No joke. Also we had to go and find the staff to order some more drinks. Really poor. I wouldn't recommend this place at all now.

Came here to bring a friend who was visiting for the weekend, it’s such an experience location and absolutely stunning it’s worth the trip. Unfortunately for us the food really lacked this time. I had the risotto to start, that was tasty but the main course was the beetroot gnocchi which was flavourless and a really disappointment. My friend had the scallops to start which she said were incredible but the main course, duck, was inconsistent across the two pieces and one a little chewy. We were table checked, and did not give the restaurant the opportunity to rectify it which I am sure they would have. The young man who did ask us if everything was ok was walking away before he’d really heard the answer. Overall, a bit of a disappointing visit

Amazing venue, VERY disappointing food. It’s such a lovely atmosphere, the staff were all very attentive and friendly. We had the soup to start, that came with a piece of toasted sourdough, the soup was very good, but we ordered an extra side of sourdough bread to could share, but the extra sourdough came un-toasted and was very dry, so we asked for it to be toasted, but when the lady brought it back it had no extra colour, it was just warmed. It was like she was embarrassed to give it to me having not really changed. It went downhill from there, I had the chicken dish which was supposed to be with a ‘red wine jus’ which had the texture of instant gravy and no flavour at all, along with the rest of the dish. My partner has the duck with ‘ginger gel’ which literally tasted like tomato purée, the mains were so basic. It’s very disappointing when you go out and spend that kind of money to eat something that is less satisfying than what you eat throughout the week.

I was a bit apprehensive about visiting during a busy half term after reading the reviews but The Treehouse Restaurant was fantastic! The building is lovely inside, and there was a great range of options on the menu for kids and adults. The staff were friendly and our service was very efficient - and most importantly, the food was great! We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

A magical place as a surprise for my partner and his son. A warm and friendly welcome from the staff and any questions answered. Food was delicious and catered for our tastes and for an 8 year old. A magical place to have a meal while on holiday in Alnwick.

Made this account just for this review as I'm not one for writing a review but wow the food we all had was amazing I don't know how they don't have any food and service awards (that I'm aware of) looks amazing inside, food was something special, service was good,atmosphere great, props to the chef and server's The only issue was that there was only a kids burger on the menu (did not affect the evening at all)

Bill came to £80 and felt robbed. Three burgers and chips, three sticky toffee puddings and 5 drinks. Absolutely don’t mind paying money for good food but it was underwhelming and came away disappointed. We’d have been better going to a local pub.

We haven’t been to the treehouse for a while so we’re looking forward to trying it again, especially as we’d heard there was a new chef. The setting of the treehouse is always magical however it was very chilly which detracted from our enjoyment. The food was good, but nothing special for the price. Our starters came quite quickly but we then waited around 35 minutes after our starters were cleared before our main courses arrived. The restaurant wasn’t very busy so don’t think we should have had to wait so long. The desserts were very good, I had the cherry blossom tree which was very nice. I wouldn’t rush back as there are lots of other good eating places in the area where you can get the same standard of food at a more reasonable price.

Excellent settings and great food, and I would have happily given a five star review but for the fact that two of our main course choices off the menu were not available, namely the duck and pork dishes. This made for a somewhat limited choice of main courses as there were no other alternatives to replace these. Saying that, what we did have was extremely good and well presented and very good value

Great setting and very convenient before the winter light trail. Warm and welcoming staff. We pre ordered because there were 19 of us but even then we had to wait for a child’s burger. They try hard with presentation but the food and setting is not special. Only worth three stars but ok to visit.

Lovely unique place. Decided to go before we visited the light trail. I have been a few times before but the husband had not, and I have always wanted him to try it. Staff were welcoming , very happy. We both had starters- blue cheese souffle and the onion soup, and the mains of Pork & Beef dinners. Both were lovely with the best gravy I have tasted for a while! It was a chilly night but nice and warm inside, and they will provide pillows and blankets if needed which was a lovely touch! Cant wait to visit again!

The venue is beautiful and I was very excited to experience it but I personally found the food a little underwhelming. I am glad to have had the opportunity to visit but probably wouldn't feel the need to go again.

On arrival a very pleasant waiter informed us that the restaurant was very cold despite having heating on and that we might like to keep our coats on whilst eating and he certainly was right. It was absolutely freezing and there was many people eating with their coats on. This is really quite unacceptable, I have never been in a restaurant where we had to keep our coats on and the heating arrangements definitely need to be reviewed . Even the waiters and waitresses said they had been cold all their shift. Come on Alnwick Gardens get your act together,

Booked a table prior to visiting the gardens , and we really enjoyed it. Lovely open fire , really festive . Enjoyed our food, good size portions and tasty. One of the best sticky toffee puddings I’ve had. Staff are very attentive and were lovely with the children. Looking forward to going back soon.

Staff were lovely and attentive. Starters were delicious but neither of us can say the same for the main course of Silverside! Meat was tough and if we had eaten it all we would have been there for several hours chewing it ! Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes disappointing too ! Such a shame as we had wanted to eat at the Treehouse for many years and decided to book for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary ! Thankfully The Alnwick Garden Light Trail more than made up for our disappointment !

Wow!! What a beautiful setting, food was above average but service let it down massively. Service initially was slow and not what we would expect for a very expensive meal.

If there were separate star ratings I would give 5* for environment, location & atmosphere. The Treehouse really is a fantastic setting & certainly not like anywhere I have dined before. It feels magical inside, the lights and trees make for a great backdrop to your meal. However 3* based on staff, service & food. Everything was ok, no better than that which doesn’t quite match the setting. There seemed to be no urgency from staff, they lacked passion & zest. The location means that I would certainly give this place another chance and I would recommend it to others.

We were booked in for a Birthday evening meal and were so disgusted at the service and quality of the food I felt compelled to write a review. When the food eventually arrived (after waiting over an hour for the starters) it was cold and half the dish was missing, after complaining our plates were taken away and eventually returned with the missing food items on and slightly warmer than the previous offering. The staff were completely disinterested in what was going on and all the manager could offer up was that they had had issues in the kitchen! Please don't spoil a special occasion as we did by eating in the Tree House, there are plenty other places to eat that deserve your custom.
