We don't get to go very often with us not living in Harrogate but when we do go we always really enjoy the food, the portions are of a good size too.. It's home cooked food and not microwave meals which is perfect for us. The service is always warm and welcoming, you are greeted & served with a smile. We would recommend The Travellers Rest and we will go again.

Staff were responsive and helpful, however there was only one cask Beer on tap because the other three barrels were awaiting changing and the pipes cleaning out. Thursday evening. There are Two tables in The Lounge Bar where you can eat a meal and have your dog with you. I'm not sure if they were allowed in the restaurant area further round the corner. There are outdoor seating areas at the front and rear by the car park. I'm not certain about disabled access and saw no separate disabled toilets. I did Notice however that from the car park (left hand) entrance door which leads past the gents loos into a very cramped bar and you would not want to take your wheelchair through here... Try the doors 🚪 on the right hand side towards the roadside of the building instead: although I did not check level Access. The atmosphere is relaxed and there was no loud music or TVs blaring sports during our visit.

Lovely, very! Old pub close to the caravan park we are staying on, walked over on Good Friday early evening and it was fairly quiet. Good sized dog friendly area. Had two pints of Moretti, very good pint 🍺, we both ordered fish and chips and it was so tasty. Not oily at all, home made tartare sauce and ‘proper’ mushy peas and chips. Husband has the cheesecake for dessert which he said was delicious. Pub was getting busy when we left and will definitely go again … just to update, we’ve been again this evening, one burger and one gammon and again, spot on!

Popped in for a drink and some tea whilst staying at Harrogate Showground. Food was superb served with delicious home made chips. We had steak pie with fresh vegetables and chicken skewers the gravy on the steak pie was phenomenal and the chicken was tender and juicy. Quick get together, the Lad was across just for an overnight. Warm welcome from the staff, found a table, menus given and drinks order taken. Nicely paced service. I fell for the Haddock and Chips, our Doris chose the Warm Chicken Salad and the Lad went for Gammon. All cooked to order - don't expect fast food speeds - they take their time and it is cooked to perfection. All arrived together and was piping hot and well presented. Thoroughly decent fare and at a reasonable price. Finished with coffee, which has well served and freshly brewed.

Wow. Picture perfect 17th century building. Lovely atmosphere, low background music, good tucker, great owner. Would recommend getting more zero alcohol drinks available eg Guinness zero or maybe Ghostship 0.5%. Reason you can’t walk there but most people drive hence more choice in alcohol free would be beneficial to the cause. However, still I super hidden gem 🤩

We picked out this lovely little place when trying to find somewhere to eat before going to the football ground. We pulled up outside and didn't quite know what to expect. Don't be deceived by first impressions because the welcome and the food was top notch. Yes it's an old pub and some would say it needs modernising but that would spoil it completely. The Yorkshire Pudding wraps were delicious and highly recommended. We'll definitely be calling again when in the area.

Beautiful olde world pub from the 17th century. Beautiful views. Unfortunately the Sunday lunch we has was not as nice as expected. Everything (other than the vegetables) was over cooked. Meat and chicken tough and dry. I'd say overcooked by at least 2 hrs. Then reheated in the microwave. Potatoes the mash was really dry, had to request extra gravy. Roasts and stuffing crisp and dry. Left in the oven too long. Put these remedies in place you'd have scored a perfect 100%. I would come back. But I'd be weary of having sunday lunch again.

Eaten here many of times, normally our go to place unfortunately the last 3 times have been down hill. Today made it our final visit we waited for drink orders to be taken as we were told they would be with us in a few moments. 15 minutes later we went and ordered ourselves, we were then told they would take our food order shortly after, another 20 minutes later we decided to order at the bar. Food finally came with multiple hairs cooked into the food. When questioned we were given various answers about the food and suppliers. Waitress had an attitude problem. Shame as this was our favourite family place. Like I said we have given it 3 extra chances. Not one to complain normally but really let down and put off.

As a first time visitor I was expecting a charming, traditional, welcoming country pub but my experience was anything but charming and welcoming. Upon entry the barman scowled at us and then proceeded to chat to a couple of regulars sat at the other side of the bar. It gave off a ‘local pub for local people’ vibe. The whole place felt cliquey, dirty and in desperate need of some TLC. To add insult to injury I was charged £12 for two pints of bland, Theakston swill.

Wow, what a little hidden gem of a pub. We went here after seeing a youtube video of the nearby Harrogate Caravan Park (separate google review for that!) I have to say that I wasn't all that excited about going to this pub for food as on the video, it just looked a bit "pub grubby" but was happy to go for a pint. Well I was totally surprised by the quality of the food. It's absolutely beautiful. I had the sausage and mash, Mrs J had the Steak and Ale Pie with mash and both meals were amazing. This isn't pub grub, this is top quality food at reasonable prices. They also serve Moretti which will always tick a box for me. The pub is very old and the decor could be improved but all in all, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend.

Wow, what an amazing inn this is was our first impression. The interior just oozes character. The food we enjoyed was fantastic and the lamb shank was probably the best I've tasted. Yruly delicious! The only negatives are hair in my wife's mashed potato and then the young staff working there who, quite literally, argued between themselves whilst one was stood right by our table. This doesn't create a positive first impression when it was so early on in our meal. Would we return? Yes, for the ambience/character and because the food was excellent. Please train your staff to be less vocal between each other when serving.

Decided to take an evening walk with friends to the Travellers Rest and have some drinks. Arrived about 8.15, inside was pretty empty and there were about 5 other tables being used outside. We were told at about 9pm that they would be closing by 9.30 because the staff wanted to get off because of Leeds United playing! By 9.30 we were rushed to leave. This has happened before at the Travellers Rest when they shut early (at a time decided by staff) and as a customer you end up feeling like an inconvenience. They should decide whether they want to stay open properly in the evenings, or focus on lunches & dinners. They also may argue that the place was very quiet so not worth staying open (although this time the reason was football), however if customers are told to go home early then they’re not really going to choose it as a place to go for evening drinks. It’s a shame as well as it could be a lovely pub. I’ll be trying somewhere else where they value their customers and you know the evening won’t be cut short.

A little bit tired but great location. The service was slow but I think she was new so we all have to learn. The Sunday lunch was terrible. The meat was cheap and fatty, the mash was re heated and tasted ‘odd’, the stuffing was hard. The only decent parts were the gravy and the Yorkshire pud. Very expensive for well below par food. I have visited The Travellers Rest (no apostrophe!) over a number of years. Always liked it. However, I haven't been for a number of years. My female friend and neighbour, soon to be a septuagenarian, and I, a grumpy old man, visited The Travellers Rest on 6th June 2024 (D-Day+80). We had lunch. My neighbour had mushroom stroganoff, I had sausage and colcannon. Food was great. No stingy servings. We both agreed food was tasty and substantial. Well presented but not fancy. Staff were attentive but not annoying. Unfortunately, I was driving so couldn't drink the Theakston's XB, so I had to drink Heineken 0.0, which, to be honest, was fine. To conclude, pub/restaurant in a great rural location, but 2 mins from Sainsbury's. Definitely an establishment with character. My friend described it as "quirky". Food not fancy but tasty and filling. Other clientele, frequenting the pub, when we were there, were of a similar demographic. That is, no yobs, etc. Of course, being a grumpy old git, I have to find fault in something. The road leading to the pub REALLY needs the pot-holes filling in. If you're having to drive at 0.005 mph due to the pot-holes, you're on the right road! Overall: Thoroughly recommend this pub/restaurant.

At this point one of our group went to the bar and requested our bill. Again we waited and waited. In the end we left approximately £200 on the table to pay for the bill and left. On our way out the young bar man said "well who's going to settle up then?" We told him it was on the table. We couldn't believe how rude he was. We use to go there 4 or 5 times a year but last time we visited we didn't get very good service either so now we have now decided not bother going there again.

Just visited for Sunday lunch. The food was fine & plentiful, a shame the veg was presented on a tea plate rather than a proper dish, however the service leaves a lot to be desired. Not a smile, welcome or even an acknowledgement from the chap at the bar when we entered. OK he was doing something at the till but surely a smile for new customers entering is not beyond one's capabilities. The meal was fine, but no one bothered to check, even when they cleared the plates there was no 'was everything ok'. We didn't have a dessert as no one bothered to offer us a dessert menu. Are customers here so assured that you can afford to be so complacent about customer service? So no tip ( other than appreciate your customers) no dessert and no return custom. We'll take our custom to where it will be appreciated.

This great pub is a little off the beaten track, but we'll worth the effort to find. The staff were quick to acknowledge us and served quick, as quick as the food came to our table. The food was piping hot and good portions although my wife felt there could have been a little more Veg in her small bowl. Food was great and all at a reasonable price. As most pubs do there was music piped over. I mention this because it was at a reasonable volume and was playing 80's and 90's music - icing on the cake!! Parking is good and wheelchair access is OK. Great pub with a great atmosphere, attentive staff and good prices. Well worth a visit.

Can not fault the friendly staff. Always made welcome. Service & Food excellent. Rib eye steak went down well with partner. Chicken skewer for myself was tasty & filling. Can't wait to see the autumn menu.

Gorgeous little pub, so glad we found it, the Sunday roasts were amazing and huge! Big homemade Yorkshire puddings and the meat was really good quality. We sat in the conservatory which had a lovely view, really nice atmosphere. Dog friendly and the prices are really reasonable too. Great kids menu aswell, my son was so happy as he loves steak pie and they had it on the kids menu! A must try if your in the area 👍

Very interesting old pub, particularly the bar area. We had fish and chips and steak pie, typical average pub grub, nothing particularly good but not so bad we wouldn’t go back. Good service but only three couples in the restaurant area. Very nice, well kept pint of Theakston bitter.

Great menu lots of choice and lovely staff. We had a great lunch with good beer and to top it off the place is dog friendly. What more could you want. This is a traditional country pub, the staff are super helpful and friendly. Definitely one I will go back to. Vegetarian options Lots of choice of food that is actually nice. So many places have a dish reserved for vegetarians. Here lots of choice and the food was all amazing. Easy walking distance to the campsite on Yorkshire show ground. Take the footpath as on the photo. At the bottom turn left. Lovely find

Walked for 3 miles to visit for a drink and food. Arrived at 12.20 on a Sunday (opens at 12) and not a soul in sight. The whole place was closed and we couldn't find any information online as to why. There was a large group of others waiting to get in who also didn't understand. Tried to phone and nobody answered.

Superb over every one of its 20 years. Well trained staff. West Park location is quite unique. Just right. Discerning, polite and welcoming. Lindsey and Daniel, in particular.

We have visited this place many, many times. The food is generally lovely. However, they really need to change their front of house staff. Rude and unwelcoming and referring to my sister as ‘the wheelchair’ This person is the same on every occasion and it’s beyond me why an owner would want guests to be met by such a cold person. The young man behind the bar, however, was lovely. I don’t think we will continue our business here.
