Beautiful olde world pub from the 17th century. Beautiful views. Unfortunately the Sunday lunch we has was not as nice as expected. Everything (other than the vegetables) was over cooked. Meat and chicken tough and dry. I'd say overcooked by at least 2 hrs. Then reheated in the microwave. Potatoes the mash was really dry, had to request extra gravy. Roasts and stuffing crisp and dry. Left in the oven too long. Put these remedies in place you'd have scored a perfect 100%. I would come back. But I'd be weary of having sunday lunch again.

Eaten here many of times, normally our go to place unfortunately the last 3 times have been down hill. Today made it our final visit we waited for drink orders to be taken as we were told they would be with us in a few moments. 15 minutes later we went and ordered ourselves, we were then told they would take our food order shortly after, another 20 minutes later we decided to order at the bar. Food finally came with multiple hairs cooked into the food. When questioned we were given various answers about the food and suppliers. Waitress had an attitude problem. Shame as this was our favourite family place. Like I said we have given it 3 extra chances. Not one to complain normally but really let down and put off.

Lovely old pub, very quirky but could do with tidy up and de-clutter. Food was very good if a little pricy by pub standards. Drinks very overpriced, £6.20 for a pint of Guinness which was unfortunately not the best, £2.50 for a tonic water. May look elsewhere next time in the area.

What a lovely oldy worldy pub this is ! Right up my street, great beer and amazing food. Lots of little nooks and crannies in this lovely pub, oozes charm. Staff were great,we had Yorkshire pudding wraps, beef and pork and fish finger sandwich. All the food was fresh and cooked from scratch,i had soooo much beef and it was perfectly lean and tasty. As a first time visitor I was expecting a charming, traditional, welcoming country pub but my experience was anything but charming and welcoming. Upon entry the barman scowled at us and then proceeded to chat to a couple of regulars sat at the other side of the bar. It gave off a ‘local pub for local people’ vibe. The whole place felt cliquey, dirty and in desperate need of some TLC. To add insult to injury I was charged £12 for two pints of bland, Theakston swill.

Wow, what a little hidden gem of a pub. We went here after seeing a youtube video of the nearby Harrogate Caravan Park (separate google review for that!) I have to say that I wasn't all that excited about going to this pub for food as on the video, it just looked a bit "pub grubby" but was happy to go for a pint. Well I was totally surprised by the quality of the food. It's absolutely beautiful. I had the sausage and mash, Mrs J had the Steak and Ale Pie with mash and both meals were amazing. This isn't pub grub, this is top quality food at reasonable prices. They also serve Moretti which will always tick a box for me. The pub is very old and the decor could be improved but all in all, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend.

Wow, what an amazing inn this is was our first impression. The interior just oozes character. The food we enjoyed was fantastic and the lamb shank was probably the best I've tasted. Yruly delicious! The only negatives are hair in my wife's mashed potato and then the young staff working there who, quite literally, argued between themselves whilst one was stood right by our table. This doesn't create a positive first impression when it was so early on in our meal. Would we return? Yes, for the ambience/character and because the food was excellent. Please train your staff to be less vocal between each other when serving.

Decided to take an evening walk with friends to the Travellers Rest and have some drinks. Arrived about 8.15, inside was pretty empty and there were about 5 other tables being used outside. We were told at about 9pm that they would be closing by 9.30 because the staff wanted to get off because of Leeds United playing! By 9.30 we were rushed to leave. This has happened before at the Travellers Rest when they shut early (at a time decided by staff) and as a customer you end up feeling like an inconvenience. They should decide whether they want to stay open properly in the evenings, or focus on lunches & dinners. They also may argue that the place was very quiet so not worth staying open (although this time the reason was football), however if customers are told to go home early then they’re not really going to choose it as a place to go for evening drinks. It’s a shame as well as it could be a lovely pub. I’ll be trying somewhere else where they value their customers and you know the evening won’t be cut short.

A little bit tired but great location. The service was slow but I think she was new so we all have to learn. The Sunday lunch was terrible. The meat was cheap and fatty, the mash was re heated and tasted ‘odd’, the stuffing was hard. The only decent parts were the gravy and the Yorkshire pud. Very expensive for well below par food. Declined dessert and won’t be returning.

I have visited The Travellers Rest (no apostrophe!) over a number of years. Always liked it. However, I haven't been for a number of years. My female friend and neighbour, soon to be a septuagenarian, and I, a grumpy old man, visited The Travellers Rest on 6th June 2024 (D-Day+80). We had lunch. My neighbour had mushroom stroganoff, I had sausage and colcannon. Food was great. No stingy servings. We both agreed food was tasty and substantial. Well presented but not fancy. Staff were attentive but not annoying. Unfortunately, I was driving so couldn't drink the Theakston's XB, so I had to drink Heineken 0.0, which, to be honest, was fine. To conclude, pub/restaurant in a great rural location, but 2 mins from Sainsbury's. Definitely an establishment with character. My friend described it as "quirky". Food not fancy but tasty and filling. Other clientele, frequenting the pub, when we were there, were of a similar demographic. That is, no yobs, etc. Of course, being a grumpy old git, I have to find fault in something. The road leading to the pub REALLY needs the pot-holes filling in. If you're having to drive at 0.005 mph due to the pot-holes, you're on the right road! Overall: Thoroughly recommend this pub/restaurant.

We were not asked if we would like more drinks at anytime during our meal. We waited and waited but no-one came to ask if we would like dessert coffee either. At this point one of our group went to the bar and requested our bill. Again we waited and waited. In the end we left approximately £200 on the table to pay for the bill and left. On our way out the young bar man said "well who's going to settle up then?" We told him it was on the table. We couldn't believe how rude he was. We use to go there 4 or 5 times a year but last time we visited we didn't get very good service either so now we have now decided not bother going there again.

Just visited for Sunday lunch. The food was fine & plentiful, a shame the veg was presented on a tea plate rather than a proper dish, however the service leaves a lot to be desired. Not a smile, welcome or even an acknowledgement from the chap at the bar when we entered. OK he was doing something at the till but surely a smile for new customers entering is not beyond one's capabilities. The meal was fine, but no one bothered to check, even when they cleared the plates there was no 'was everything ok'. We didn't have a dessert as no one bothered to offer us a dessert menu. Are customers here so assured that you can afford to be so complacent about customer service? So no tip ( other than appreciate your customers) no dessert and no return custom. We'll take our custom to where it will be appreciated.

We decided to go to the Travellers Rest a couple of weeks ago after not visiting for over a year. We were pleased to see that the quaint old fashioned pub had been decorated and the menu had been changed. There was much more choice on the menu but the quality of the food had not changed from what it was last time we visited, which was very good. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the welcoming atmosphere in the restaurant. My only gripe with the Travellers and the reason we have not visited recently is that the last orders for food are 7.15pm and on a weekend we prefer to order about 8pm and make an evening of it. On saying that we will definite be back sooner rather than later!

Returned after having a great evening meal for a Sunday dinner. Absolutely terrible. After the longest wait we were served a plate of the most bland food I've eaten in a long time. A lump of fat as meat, undercooked roast potatoes, bland mash that just tasted of water and no veg until we asked for it then a bland bowl of microwave cauliflower turned up. Didn't eat it, and was told would knock it off the bill we had already paid. Was handed cash didn't count it but was only refunded for one meal when two were uneaten. The young staff were not bothered and who can blame them they look like they were doing a weekend job with no management anywhere to be seen. Sadly we won't be returning to what could've been a great little hidey-hole public house. What a shame

The pub itself is lovely, old and quirky with a nice beer garden and views over the valley. We had booked but service was exceptionally slow (though friendly enough). We waited 20 mins for drinks to come then trying to find a staff member to remind them. ( No one to be seen). The food was very disappointing. The ploughman's lunch was almost 17 pounds but arrived with slimy dead salad and stale bread (toasted to disguise this!) It's a lot of money for ham, cheese and a small bit of pork pie. The ham and cheese were good quality though. My sister had pie and chips (pie was well filled but dry and smothered in what tasted like granules gravy and overcooked veg. The chips were obviously not freshly cooked. My brother's burger was not great - given he'll eat anything! All in all quite a depressing outing. We have been before a few times and it has been fine , but not this time. We didn't linger for pudding or coffee.

Slowest service in the world. A steak and ale pie is not in my books a two inch square of microwaved pastry sitting on top of dry and tasteless filling. Chips shouldn't be put in microwave after frying and salad needs to be fresh. NEVER seen a ploughmans lunch with toasted bread. The suspicious among our group suggested that maybe the bloomer was yesterday's stale bread. Mind you the ham was lovely. The serving staff were bored and sullen. We won't be back

Very disappointed. Decor frankly a bit shabby, quite shocked to look up from our window seat to see a curtain full of dead flies. As we had ordered drinks we decided to stick it out and ordered fish and chips to be safe. Wrong decision! The fish was wet and the batter soggy. We beat a quick retreat and went to Fodders for a decent cup of coffee and cake.

Proper olde worlde pub. Friendly staff. Lots to choose from on the menu. Food is good quality and tasty. Some portions have got smaller recently but mostly decent. We will definitely return.

Nice place for a decent pint and day time chill. Was going to try, the Vocation Ale. The bar lady said do u want to try before u buy. Which I did and not my type. However I went for the Theaksons. Excellent pint well kept.

My favourite Caffè Nero. Probably their best site in the UK. Great views of Harrogate from upstairs windows. Lowered rating as this place needs sorting out now.

We visit anchor at whixley on a Saturday for the carvery once every 4 to 6 weeks and have done so for a few years now. It,s always been unbeatable quality BUT today was terrible. The portion of Pork was small and tough and half of what was on my plate was pure tough fat. (See photo) So disappointed never had this before and may give it a miss in a few weeks spread our wings and give somewhere else a go.

I cannot comment on the rooms, we only called in for dinner. Parked in the village and walked up to Brimham Rocks. After a nice walk out it was only right that we call into the local public house for a well deserved meal and beer. I will keep it simple... the welcome was polite and friendly, the beer was spot on, the menu, was varied enough, but also not that big to be confusing. The food!!.. perfect!!! We had, Royal oak burger, Hunters Chicken , and slow brazed lamb shank... All meals were fantastic, and for me.. without question some of the best food I have had while out walking in a long time. I will be returning in the future as its well worth a visit.
