The worst Sunday roast I’ve ever had. After a 40 minute wait for our food to arrive and nobody came to explain why the wait. I was beginning to think it’s going to be extra special . How wrong was I Plain pan fried chicken breast , huge Yorkshire pudding full of baking powder. The roast beef was not roasted it was a steamed beef, I didn’t eat it as it was quite slimy 🤮 The roast potatoes were frozen and deep fried as well as tasting of garlic from something else that had been cooked in the same fryer. The cauliflower cheese was frozen veg and the cheese sauce was not cooked as it was watery and very grainy texture. The temperature of the food was below the safe holding temperature (above 63 degrees) The waitress was not experienced enough to let her customers know they were having a problem in the kitchen she just stayed out of the way. I certainly would not recommend the restaurant, the only good thing is the view.

Called in for lunch, having been diverted off the M5 on the way to Weymouth. Unfortunately the pub was closed for redecorating but the licencee was so kind in letting our grandchildren use the toilets as they were desperate. The pub itself looks lovely and I'm sure when finished it will be fabulous. Just a Thank you to the owners. Bless you.

We visited here with a large family lovely pub and atmosphere, upon arrival we were told a few things wasn't available fine fair enough, we ended up waiting a hour and a half for our food upon arrival when we received our roast there was bare minimal gravy no Yorkshire puddings which is the star of the show pretty disappointed as we weren't told when ordering our meals the children's meals weren't all that great there was a handful of chips if that, when pudding came there was only a choice of ice cream or rice pudding we left pretty deflated. Overal the food was nice maybe we came at the wrong time.

We came to the Traveller's Rest to check it out before booking a Sunday lunch with the family. The greeting was friendly and informative. The menu was comprehensive and the food was delicious. There was a slight wait for food, but just as you would expect for cooked to order food. The food was good quality, hot and tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be booking our family Sunday lunch and are looking forward to it. The building was obviously a typical village pub in the past. Through the door to the left for the bar, to the right for the lounge bar, but is now one open plan area with a large and bright conservatory taking advantage if a far-reaching view of the Mendip hills. There is a large patio for al fresco dining and also a fair sized car park.

Very dissapointing lunch, I ordered Goujonettes of fish with chips, but it came as a big piece of deep fried fish and very overcooked, I didn’t expect fish n chips as I know it, my sister ordered a cheese & spring onion omelette which was bland & tasteless, and the salad with it was soggy and unappetising.

For me, the main draw was the separate gluten-free menu which always gives me confidence. I had GF whitebait for the first time in 7 years & it was delicious! The small fish & chips for £10.00 was a real bargain & served piping hot. Advise sticking to the Classics as Singapore noodles not so good. Try to book in advance & ask for a table near the window where you get stunning views. Staff under pressure, but remained calm & friendly, & we didn't wait too long for our food.

Very disappointing visit for Sunday lunch with friends. Roast beef meals arrived cold, returned after being reheated in microwave. Beef was hard to cut and whole meal was tasteless. I cannot believe a chef would produce such a poor meal. Service was average and no one asked if everything was ok. A 250ml glass of Merlot was £10 which must be a 500% mark up! The only saving grace was the pudding and I wish I had just had that. If you are looking for a tasty Sunday lunch I would not advise visiting here.

Me and my business partner visited the restaurant where they managed to fit us in for a Sunday Lunch where we had a meeting after seeing mixed reviews online and wanted to make our own perspective on the pub. We were pleasantly impressed with the food (although they could add a few more vegetables) and will be coming back again. The only thing I questioned was the bar lady who seemed to be quite rude to the young waiter who was doing a brilliant job for a fully booked restaurant and only other member of staff, it seemed as though she was putting a lot of pressure on him when he didn’t seem to be doing anything out of place as he was lovely when taking our order and serving our food. Apart from this, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal with the Travellers Rest and will be back to try the Main Menu. Kate & Sean

Having been recently taken over we had high hopes this would be our go to place to eat. The menu looked interesting and different although it did seem rather expensive which is acceptable if the food is really good but on this occasion the hike in prices could not be justified and the meals were very disappointing The fish ordered by 3 of us was undercooked, soggy and tasteless and the Asian noodles were completely smothered in a runny sauce Unfortunately none of us could say we enjoyed our meals but at least the young lad who served us did his job well and was a credit to the team

Not sure what has happened here. Things have become very expensive, drinks included as these seem to have gone up in price twice since being taken over. The food is quite ordinary but priced way above that. Such a shame as it started off well but it has now priced us out of visiting which is sad as we have been real supporters of the TR.

My wife and I had our dinner here this evening which was wonderfully average. Firstly the bar staff were very inattentive when we were trying to alert someone to the fact that we had booked a table. My original order for both food and drink were both “off the menu”, however I needed to order and wait ages before I was told this! Also our table was very sticky so the level of cleaning should be improved. We won’t be coming back.

The landlady and the staff didn't welcome us at all, I felt as though they were doing us a favour, yet I've been there lots of times ( never again, from now on). The menu was very basic, whereas before there was a wider choice. I had fish and chips, the batter was a bit soggy and unappetising, the chips were sparse and the "clotted cream" ice cream turned out to be your common or garden vanilla variety. There wasn't any "Did you enjoy your meal?" and "Thank you, come again". I'll cross this pub off my list.

Came here for dinner a few nights ago as we have just moved to the village. We wanted to try out all the pubs and made the most out of the eat out to help out scheme. We were greeted at the entrance and were asked to sanitise our hands and were shown to our table. We asked if we could sit outside as the view on the decking is incredible! This was fine with the staff however it looked as if it was going to start raining just after we had received our drinks. We moved inside and felt very comfortable eating our food inside the restaurant due to the strict one way system in place and the reminder to sanitise our hands after coming in from outside. The food was classic home cooked pub food but was excellent! The steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious! We will be making more trips to The Travellers Rest in the future due to the lovely staff who work there and great food and views!! Would like to say a special thank you for making us feel relaxed and being so attentive :)

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and I felt very safe visiting a pub for the first time with an elderly relatively. However I would think twice about going back as the food was awful. Firstly, my glass of wine looked like a glass of water and tasted like it had been diluted. The Sunday lunch was terrible, the beef was over cooked and completely tasteless, the veg and potatoes were frozen and were also tasteless. The gravy tasted like gravy granules and was very thin. I was very disappointed as the setting is amazing and with a little more effort could have been so much better. I really wouldn’t have minded paying more for a decent meal.

Visited on Sunday, as a meeting place with my family. There were 18 of us, and I understand that large parties can be a little challenging to deal with as going bar staff and waitresses. We ordered a mixed range of food, including roasts, lasagne, fish and chips and steaks. First of all, I couldn’t understand why the bar staff were bringing drinks to our table one drink at a time. It would’ve looked much more professional to use a tray and bring numerous drinks at one time. Myself and partner had roast beef and it was average. The meat a little tough, Yorkshire puddings definitely not homemade but frozen, a small amount of veg and extremely lacking gravy. At £11.95 I think this is a little steep for what we got. I had a chocolate brownie for pudding and it was very nice, however my uncle’s pudding was somehow forgotten about, even though my auntie had pre ordered every item of our meals including puddings and sides, so we couldn’t understand what the mix up was with this and it was a little disappointing. The woman at the bar seemed unsure how to work the till quickly and efficiently, again far from professional. We wouldn’t return.

We went for a meal friends and booked a table for four at 7:30pm. On entering the pub, we were struck by the VERY bright lighting. It’s a very traditional pub, with typical carpet and furniture of its type, with lights up so high it had the feel of a holiday camp dining room! However, the service was friendly and efficient, and the food was absolutely great, fresh, and piping hot, with plenty of choice! The only thing lacking was any sense of atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend for food and staff but drop a point for ambience, such a shame, because it can make or break a nice occasion.

We were staying close by on 01st and 02nd August for our Golden Anniversary and were looking for a nice pub to eat each evening without having to travel too far. We had booked at a different pub but on the way back to our hotel we were passing this pub and thought we would pop in. Glad we did as when we asked about an evening menu the lovely lady, who I presume was the landlady gave us such a nice welcome and could not do more. Because of her response we got that feeling that this was a nice pub and just up our street so we cancelled the other booking and booked for two nights at The Travellers Rest. We had two great meals in a real friendly pub which was just a stone throw from where we stayed at the Summerhouse B&B. The food is wholesome pub grub, nothing fancy but you will not be disappointed. Great landlady who works her butt off, thanks for two great meals and we will call back again.

I came here for a meal with friends and all started well until the food came out. I ordered a lasagne which came with a bowl of side salad. In the salad I noticed a really long dark hair.. I'm not usually one to complain but when there is hair in my food I felt I had to. There was no apology or anything just an "oh ill get you another one" which I kindly declined. When eating my food and talking with my friends there was an older lady with grey hair behind the bar who rudely said "well it wasnt my hair" whilst looking at me. She quickly looked away when she noticed I had heard her. Really unprofessional in my opinion being made to feel I did something wrong. I won't be returning.

Probably the nicest thing is the view across the fields to the hills in the distance. They were particularly busy when we ate there early on Friday evening and we had to wait quite a while for our food - but they did apologise. Staff were friendly and the food was OK. For folk like myself who are not wanting massive amounts of food they have a smaller portions menu which includes a choice of two desserts in the price. My small portion was more than adequate and cooked (steak) exactly as ordered. Nothing out of the ordinary but pleasant enough and I’d eat there again if I was in the area.

There were 19 of us plus a toddler! We were asked to pre order our main meal and all the food came out at the same time and was piping hot. Between us we had many different options from the main menu and everything was spot on! Good presentation too. Excellent friendly service and was quite busy or a Tuesday evening. This was not our first visit and food is consistently good quality...we will be back for sure!

Called in for a lunch when our walk in the area was interrupted by a hail storm. We were very satisfied with the meal and the staff were particularly friendly.

Called in on the off chance for lunch, on entering we found that it was really quite busy, we enquired at the bar for a table and were told that if we didn't mind a bit of a wait they would fit us in. To which we agreed and they found us a table, There was a really pleasant atmosphere plus it was spotlessly clean through out, the menu had an ample choice of food plus there was a specials board. You order at the bar and your food is served when ready, we had the steak and ale pie and it was absolutely superb, the meat just melted in your mouth. Couple this with ample portions of piping hot well cooked veg and you are on to a winner. This is a must stop if you are traveling the A37 either to or from Bristol.

We had a family get together here today for 35 of us and it was a lovely lunch. The food was yummy, service fantastic and location was perfect. I had the fish and chips and the chocolate orange cheesecake and would definitely recommend. With such a large party both the kitchen and waiting staff coped brilliantly even with a couple of our party arriving late.

Called in for lunch today and we were very pleasantly surprised. We had a lovely warm welcome and although very busy we had a good choice of tables. The food on the menu was not quite what I wanted as I am on a very low fat diet. This

had a 3 course meal, the cost was near to £70 yes we did have a couple of double spirits but for a pub thought this was high for just 2 people. Jacket potato was a good size but was under cooked so asked for it to be microwaved more and the cook decided that he would cook a fresh one but the wife had nearly had eaten her meal before it can out and the size was only half of the first one and the waitress said they was struggling to cook it in time. The mixed grill meat was very dry, plates could have been warmed to help keep food hot. The apple crumble wasn't sweet or that crumbly. Used to go think this was a great place but very disappointed wont be going back.

We had been diverted off the M5 on our way to south Dorset so after struggling through Bristol we were in need of some rest and recuperation. We certainly got it here. From the friendly welcome as we walked in through help to find us a table, guidance as to what to eat and then the service and food was excellent. The view from the window across the Chew valley is wonderful and when the weather is nice you can sit outside to enjoy it. Would thoroughly recommend it as a stop over.

The occasion was a 40th Wedding Anniversary. Staff happily helped with gluten free options including a dessert. It was delicious. Other family members enjoyed roasts and lasagne. The goats entertained the children. Kind and friendly staff and a beautiful countryside view.

If you are within reasonable travelling distance of this pub and want to eat, make you way to the Traveller's Rest at Pensford. Superb views from the extended restaurant, an excellent choice of beautifully cooked dishes through out the day, served by a courteous and really friendly staff. Prices are very reasonable and if you are a senior citizen, there is a special menu for you offering outstanding value for money. Portions are very generous. We ate there two nights running and will return next time we are working in the area. Try the Turkish Delight cheese cake.

My husband and I called in to this pub on the way back to our holiday cottage after a full day walking. What a surprise it was. The food was very good; the staff were friendly and there was no long wait for food. We both had omelette and chips which was cooked to perfection. Despite the rain, the views from the conservatory were great and what we thought was going to be a functional meal turned out to be a really enjoyable and tasty experience. Very good value too. Well done.

This was our third port of call looking for a Sunday roast. Llodeka said it was an hour's wait; the Toby at Whitchurch said half an hour - but had nowhere to park and so we drove on down the A37 and ended up here. We were told that: we could have the dog on the deck; they would bring food out to us there; and it wouldn't be very long. And it wasn't. Both the turkey and the lamb portions were generous [I brought some turkey home for my jacket potato next day!]; the roast potatoes were good; but the vegetables [peas, carrots & cabbage] could have been cooked a little more for my taste - but then I'm old-fashioned! I guess £10.99 for a Sunday roast isn't cheap.

Lukewarm coffee and rather weak Asked for the haslet to be served separately request ignored Sent it back as it was for a vegetarian which we had told them They simply took it out and gave it back to us The cheese had melted on the haslet so now he had only egg in roll Would never come back here Also very cold cafe We had to keep our coats on Avoid this place

Big fan of Bills in general and often pop in for brunch when in London for work. Visited the Bath branch during a weekend away with my partner, and have to say it didn’t disappoint. Service was top notch and food consistent with what I’d expect of Bills. All in all, deffo worth a visit- especially for a spot of brunch before visiting the Roman Baths or other nearby spots!

Chloe’s service and suggestions on the bar made my experience here 10x more enjoyable. She let me have a taster and suggested her favourite wine (merlot) and it was exactly what I was looking for. 10/10 would come back again

The lady was very welcoming, bacon role was nice but, order was wrong. The bill was wrong. Apart from that it was good. The only person working needs some training.

The seasonal 3-course menu (featuring more than three courses!) was a real culinary experience. Each course was magnificent and the whole dining experience was one of the very best. The service was impeccable, unpretentious, friendly and relaxed. The Olive Tree is definitely a restaurant we wish to revisit.
