Had to wait over half an hour for someone to take our order and actually had to stop a passing waitress to get it done. When the food did arrive my wife was disappointed as she ordered a pulled lamb shepherds pie from the specials menu but it was just minced meat and not pulled lamb. We did get an apology for the slow service but we didn’t complain about the pie as we didn’t want to cause any problems. However today I examined the bill and saw that my wife had been charged for a half roast chicken and not shepherds pie. The place was nice and the staff friendly but I don’t think we’ll be going again.

We arrived early for our pre booked table and were greeted with a warm welcome and offered a seat my the fire until our table was ready. After a short wait we were taken through to our table, that was well set out and clean. We were left for 10 minutes or so to view the menu and asked if we required anymore drinks. I ordered the rump steak, chips and beer battered onion rings. The steak was cooked to perfection and dare I say it… one of the best I have ever had! The rest of the family (4 adults in total) also commented on the taste and quality of their food. Listening to recommendations from the lady taking our orders we then headed to the desert menu, sticky toffee pudding with custard for myself and my daughter in law 10/10 very tasty and piping hot. We will definitely return in the future. I’d strongly recommend booking in advance as it does get very busy.

My partner and I stopped for a drink and some food today, our little dog came too. The food, steak and ale pie for my partner and I had the burger with mushrooms and blue cheese... they were fantastic! Our dog had a roast chicken dog bowl which he loved even though he is really fussy. The best thing of all was the service, the guy who welcomed us was great, we found out later that he was new to the team but if the rest are as good as him, the pub is going to be packed soon so you might need to go on a quiet day! The lady who cleared the table stopped to chat and said that they had recently taken over, she was also great and I feel the Travelers Rest will do well. Only thing I can fault is not getting the chance to leave a tip so we will be going back again to sort that.

My family review of The Travellers Rest, Euxton Take a seat If you’re searching for a slice of traditional English charm, look no further than The Travellers Rest in Euxton. This superb establishment blends the character and warmth of a classic old English pub with the luxury of modern, outstanding food. It’s the kind of place where every detail seems carefully considered, yet it exudes the ease and charm of a timeless, authentic experience. Stepping inside The Travellers Rest feels like a nostalgic journey. For me, it evoked fond memories of the pub my grandfather used to take us to when I was just a young boy. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for couples, families, or anyone seeking a comforting retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life. What truly sets this pub apart is its food. (Hats off to the YOUNG MAN... chef) The quality is simply outstanding, elevating traditional pub fare to new heights while retaining the soul and comfort we expect from a place like this. Each dish feels like a carefully crafted homage to English cuisine, while the service adds another layer of delight to the experience. The staff’s attentiveness and warmth make you feel instantly at home. The drink selection is equally impressive. Whether you're a fan of exclusive wines, fine whiskeys, or the best of traditional cask ales, you'll be spoilt for choice. There's something wonderfully luxurious about sitting back with a drink in hand, soaking in the friendly atmosphere while hours drift by. Special praise goes to the new management and team, who have revitalized this venue with such care and attention to detail. Their efforts have transformed The Travellers Rest into an unmissable destination. The blend of modern touches and classic pub charm is masterfully executed, and I’m now a frequent visitor, eagerly anticipating my next trip. If you long for a place that transports you back to the golden days of the traditional English pub experience while delivering top-notch food and service, then The Travellers Rest is a must-visit. It's a beautiful example of how tradition can be preserved and cherished while moving forward with fresh energy. Thank you for keeping the spirit of the classic English pub alive. I really look forward to returning again very soon. Col M.

What can I say, I would have taken pictures of the food only I was to busy eating and enjoying each and every mouthful. We had the roast dinner, which can be a risk, as let’s face it no one cooks a roast exactly how you would have it at home, but this was smashing, the roast potatoes were crispy, the veg was cooked to perfection (no soggy veg insight), the Yorkshire pudding was a good size and the meat was tender and juicy. The staff were friendly and polite, and the atmosphere was lovely plenty of chatter going on but not so loud you couldn’t hear yourself or the music in the back ground. Will be coming back again. The new owners really know what they’re doing.

Ordered Sunday lunch, of which was very disappointing. The meat was cold and was such poor taste it didn't taste like beef. The pigs in blankets were of very poor quality, the potatoes and vegetables were nice. This was the worst Sunday lunch I've ever had. The chicken starter was nice. To add to this, a French Bully dog kept sniffing round my table and wouldn't go away. I don't mind dogs in a pub but it was the pubs dog so I would not expect this dog to be allowed to do this. Food was way way way overpriced. 19 quid for fish and chips that was a very stingy portion size, (literally about 8 chips and a tiny fish) compared to the wheatsheaf in croston for example, £11.50 for a bigger portion and better quality food. Hunters chicken was also very expensive, with the cheese completely blackened on top and inedible. Very poor indeed. Terrible ale selection as well, (one amber ale). Stay away 😂

Visited on a Thursday lunchtime with our rescue dog: as the dog is quite anxious, ( which can make him quite barky)we asked to be seated away from other diners, which they immediately did. The restaurant is very cosy and welcoming and the menu choices good. My husband had fish & chips and I had the butternut pie veggie option ( it's good to find somewhere that offers an imaginative choice of veggie options not just the ubiquitous veggie burger) Both meals were very good, the fish and chips lovely and crisp and not greasy, and the veggie option very flavourful. The service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. We consider it very good value and appreciate the effort the young guy who served us went to to make us and our dog comfortable. It’s important to note that the service is top tier. Our only observation is that for a £19 Sunday lunch, the portions leave a lot to be desired. We almost thought they had forgotten to bring out the vegetables separately. Half a carrot each, and about ten peas per plate. The menu states a “generous amount” of gravy but this was not our experience. What there was of it, was delicious. It was just a bit disappointing and didn’t justify the price.

We’ve been to this pub a number of times. Usually it’s very busy and has a great atmosphere. We haven’t been able to make it for a while due to other commitments but we managed to go today. The staff were lovely as always but it was almost empty which is very unusual from our past experiences. The food was fine but nothing like the great quality we have had in the past. The starters of garlic sourdough and teriyaki chicken were the highlights. The mains of fish and chips and pie and chips were disappointing sadly. The pie was serviced in a bowl instead of on a plate which didn’t make sense and the gravy was bland and watery. The triple cooked chips on both meals were hard in the middle and tasted undercooked. I hope it was just an off day as it’s a shame.

Our go to lunch spot! So friendly and accommodating of families - we are so well looked after whenever we go and today was no exception with the lovely Lewis. The menu and specials change regularly so there’s always something new to try as well as the classics with cheap and cheerful options on the light bites lunch menu as well as the slightly more expensive a la carte. Would recommend to anyone!

Food was excellent. Service was top notch ( Lewis) , the manager is so friendly and informative. A great place, we already have booked for a 90th celebration 🍾. Amazingly, they have a Dog Menu, 🐕.. very welcoming.

Disappointed! It used to be our go to place for Sunday lunch but not after this visit! £19 and the veg were just warm, one piece of the two pieces of beef I got was full of fat and chewy. The so called cauliflower cheese, you pay extra for, wasn’t cauliflower cheese at all it was cauliflower with cheese grated over it and the smallest portion I’ve ever seen for £5 extra! Sadly we won’t be back.

Visited this pub/restaurant last night for an 80th birthday party in a group of 12 and were given a private room and thoroughly enjoyed the celebration. The food was good with a wide choice of dishes, the surroundings were very pleasant and the staff were excellent.

The Travellers Rest was the venue chosen for my 80th birthday party evening meal. The meal for our party was excellent; the menu choice was superb; and the serving and bar staff were friendly and very attentive. I was presented with a lovely birthday cake as well with candles! I'm not sure whether this was provided by the staff or not. Either way it was lovely and we were all looked after so very well. Thank you Travellers Rest

Wheelchair accessible, appropriate tables for wheelchair users, able to pull up to table without things in way e.g. table leg. Enjoyable experience with lovely staff, would visit again if in the area 👍👍

Went on Sunday 4th Feb with a friend for a catch up over lunch and was slightly worried after seeing some of the more recent reviews. However, everything was lovely. We both had the half Sunday lunch (roast chicken) which was more than enough food and it was extremely tasty and nice and hot. Service was great too and the place had a nice ambience. I did think some of the items on the menu were pricey, but in fairness the hospitality industry in general appears to have gone this way. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return 👍😊

Quite disappointed. The food was average at best and I paid the most I have ever paid for a cup of tea (nearly £4 a cup) only brown sugar with coffee style cups. Safe to say we will not be going back! I eat out a lot and rarely leave a review, but this time I felt it necessary to leave a negative review. I wish I had checked on Tripadvisor before I booked !

Booked for a friends catch up, we were surprised at the high prices of the average meals that were served.. and the boxer dog was snorting around our table wasn’t the experience we were expecting! It’s safe to say we will not be doing a return visit!!!!

All I can say is Wow, wow, wow. I had a meal tonight with my husband. He had Pea and ham soup and Steak and ale pie. I had garlic prawns and swordfish on stir fry veg. Wow the sauce was unreal. I can only say that it is a gem of a pub with amazing food and brilliant staff. 10/10

Lovely, friendly pub. Good, hot food reasonably priced. Vicky is welcoming and friendly. She even remembers our order. Andy, our new manager is great. Indeed, all the staff are brilliant, and, not forgetting our chefs who also produce hot, tasty food. We visited today 02/04/25 and had a lovely meal.

Just called in after a walk with the dogs because we knew they had a new chef who had moved from another well known pub. The two ladies behind the bar were lovely, very welcoming! We chose two posh fish finger butties or battered fish goujons on ciabatta and fries, it didn’t disappoint!! The ciabatta tasted like it was homemade, the softest ciabatta I’ve ever had! Well worth a visit and we will defo be back soon!! About time this place took off because it’s a lovely location near the canal. ❤️

After a medical appointment, I decided and granted myself a treat of a chicken and rice curry. The place was busy at around noon, mid week. It's clean and large area. The density of chairs and tables could mean it's a bit of a struggle to go around with wheelchair users? The meals choice was wide. I am not a regular drinker. And requested a lager and lime. The way is you need to find a table. Quote this table number to staff and order your meal. The meal was perfectly cooked and tasty. The staff were busy but polite. I paid £9.03. Someone I know says this is very good price for such a meal. One of the staff asked my opinion on my meal. So there is a route for problems to be sent back up the chain if required. They want business. My sister calls here a on some times and she also rates this place. In brief. As a occasional treat, say after an appointment, this place fits the bill.
