The food was really lovely, we came for a roast beef dinner which was cooked amazingly, the staff advised they had ran out of beef not long after we ordered around 5.30pm. The sticky toffee pudding was amazing too! The only thing that let this place down was the service, there were long wait times to be served and then the wait to get given the bill.

We had an amazing meal at the Travellers Rest yesterday. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. Our waitress, Cara, was very attentive and made excellent recommendations. They have a great range of draft beers, wines and soft drinks, and the menu is fabulous. The atmosphere was lovey, a proper cozy country pub! Elysia and Dave have done a fantastic job with the pub so far, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for them! Big shout out the chef Jamie too! We will be seeing you again soon!

We have been many times over the years and had good and awful experiences however it is under new management and today’s experience was wonderful. The restaurant has a lovely ambience. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The menu is varied with usual pub classics and some different unexpected items. We had steak and ale pie and vegetarian filo wellington both were delicious. The sticky toffee pudding is to die for. We are looking forward to trying the Sunday lunch based on today’s excellent lunch.

My family review of The Travellers Rest, Euxton Take a seat If you’re searching for a slice of traditional English charm, look no further than The Travellers Rest in Euxton. This superb establishment blends the character and warmth of a classic old English pub with the luxury of modern, outstanding food. It’s the kind of place where every detail seems carefully considered, yet it exudes the ease and charm of a timeless, authentic experience. Stepping inside The Travellers Rest feels like a nostalgic journey. For me, it evoked fond memories of the pub my grandfather used to take us to when I was just a young boy. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for couples, families, or anyone seeking a comforting retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life. What truly sets this pub apart is its food. (Hats off to the YOUNG MAN... chef) The quality is simply outstanding, elevating traditional pub fare to new heights while retaining the soul and comfort we expect from a place like this. Each dish feels like a carefully crafted homage to English cuisine, while the service adds another layer of delight to the experience. The staff’s attentiveness and warmth make you feel instantly at home. The drink selection is equally impressive. Whether you're a fan of exclusive wines, fine whiskeys, or the best of traditional cask ales, you'll be spoilt for choice. There's something wonderfully luxurious about sitting back with a drink in hand, soaking in the friendly atmosphere while hours drift by. Special praise goes to the new management and team, who have revitalized this venue with such care and attention to detail. Their efforts have transformed The Travellers Rest into an unmissable destination. The blend of modern touches and classic pub charm is masterfully executed, and I’m now a frequent visitor, eagerly anticipating my next trip. If you long for a place that transports you back to the golden days of the traditional English pub experience while delivering top-notch food and service, then The Travellers Rest is a must-visit. It's a beautiful example of how tradition can be preserved and cherished while moving forward with fresh energy. Thank you for keeping the spirit of the classic English pub alive. I really look forward to returning again very soon. Col M.

What can I say, I would have taken pictures of the food only I was to busy eating and enjoying each and every mouthful. We had the roast dinner, which can be a risk, as let’s face it no one cooks a roast exactly how you would have it at home, but this was smashing, the roast potatoes were crispy, the veg was cooked to perfection (no soggy veg insight), the Yorkshire pudding was a good size and the meat was tender and juicy. The staff were friendly and polite, and the atmosphere was lovely plenty of chatter going on but not so loud you couldn’t hear yourself or the music in the back ground. Will be coming back again. The new owners really know what they’re doing.

Ordered Sunday lunch, of which was very disappointing. The meat was cold and was such poor taste it didn't taste like beef. The pigs in blankets were of very poor quality, the potatoes and vegetables were nice. This was the worst Sunday lunch I've ever had. The chicken starter was nice. To add to this, a French Bully dog kept sniffing round my table and wouldn't go away. I don't mind dogs in a pub but it was the pubs dog so I would not expect this dog to be allowed to do this. Overall would not recommend this place.

Food was way way way overpriced. 19 quid for fish and chips that was a very stingy portion size, (literally about 8 chips and a tiny fish) compared to the wheatsheaf in croston for example, £11.50 for a bigger portion and better quality food. Hunters chicken was also very expensive, with the cheese completely blackened on top and inedible. Very poor indeed. Terrible ale selection as well, (one amber ale). Stay away 😂

Visited on a Thursday lunchtime with our rescue dog: as the dog is quite anxious, ( which can make him quite barky)we asked to be seated away from other diners, which they immediately did. The restaurant is very cosy and welcoming and the menu choices good. My husband had fish & chips and I had the butternut pie veggie option ( it's good to find somewhere that offers an imaginative choice of veggie options not just the ubiquitous veggie burger) Both meals were very good, the fish and chips lovely and crisp and not greasy, and the veggie option very flavourful. The service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. We consider it very good value and appreciate the effort the young guy who served us went to to make us and our dog comfortable. Will definitely return.

It’s dog friendly here which is a bonus. Walked 40 minutes from the train station to see if it was any good and it was perfect. The pictures on the wall added a nice touch to look at. The toilets were clean and in order. Opening time is 12 midday when food begins. The waitress told us of the specials which all sounded delicious. All the staff were friendly and helpful. There is also a dog menu if your little pup has built up an appetite. The waiter brought my dog some water which was nice. I would highly recommend travellers rest to anyone.

It’s important to note that the service is top tier. Our only observation is that for a £19 Sunday lunch, the portions leave a lot to be desired. We almost thought they had forgotten to bring out the vegetables separately. Half a carrot each, and about ten peas per plate. The menu states a “generous amount” of gravy but this was not our experience. What there was of it, was delicious. It was just a bit disappointing and didn’t justify the price.

We’ve been to this pub a number of times. Usually it’s very busy and has a great atmosphere. We haven’t been able to make it for a while due to other commitments but we managed to go today. The staff were lovely as always but it was almost empty which is very unusual from our past experiences. The food was fine but nothing like the great quality we have had in the past. The starters of garlic sourdough and teriyaki chicken were the highlights. The mains of fish and chips and pie and chips were disappointing sadly. The pie was serviced in a bowl instead of on a plate which didn’t make sense and the gravy was bland and watery. The triple cooked chips on both meals were hard in the middle and tasted undercooked. I hope it was just an off day as it’s a shame.

Had prawn cocktail for starters: found it bland and dry and without any butter for bread.had to ask for some. The main: traditional turkey roast. potatoes and veg lovely and warm - but turkey very lukewarm indeed.totally spoiled by this major flaw. Desert: Christmas pudding in brandy sauce.lovely - no complaints on that score. When the food arrived, it was cold and over cooked. One of us had ordered the cheese pie, you couldn’t cut through the crust, which was disappointing. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this place to friends and family.

Very Happy with our Christmas Dinner. Nicely cooked and plentiful. The organisation of the whole event was very good, food service excellent, with no long waits for anything. We would definitely return.

Ruined my mother in laws Christmas day meal at £90 a head for extremely bad food. On mentioning this to staff and management- the reply from the manager was that your Christmas may be ruined, but you're not ruining MINE. Is that exccepptable definitely not. The money needs to be refunded. To a pension aged couple that saved up for their Christmas meal. Avoid this place, and if anyone had the same experience post it

Myself and my family went to the Travellers Rest for Christmas Dinner yesterday evening. We paid £60 per person for a set menu and we were highly disappointed with the whole experience which made us feel like we’ve been ‘ripped off’. First of all the service was very slow waiting ages for our food and drinks every time. The food was not great giving the price, the menu stated one thing and they passed plates that did not look anything like what it was supposed to be. When we complained about it, they didn’t seem to care about our opinions and left us to it as they said they were short staffed. I’m local to the travellers rest and certainly won’t be going again.

I don't know about the other reviews but the Christmas meal was to unedible. Poor service and when I complained it was me that was at fault I don't know regarding photos but the food did not resemble anything like what was presented

Booked to eat here on Saturday night at 6:30pm. We were sad to see it so quiet on a Saturday evening with only one other family in. The decor is astonishingly smart and really welcoming. The cheese and onion pie was served in a bowl with far far too much cheese sauce (you could hardly see the pie). We thought it was a dessert. The sauce was thick and gloopy and provided an overwhelmingly bland taste, making it very sickly and ruining the whole meal. It was served with chips on the side in a dish - there was no comparison between presentation of the two dishes. With a pie already full of cheese I just don’t know why a sauce (never mind the quantity) is needed. Basically a fondue set instead of a pie and chips - really disappointing and not sure who approved this. The steak and ale pie was nice although the veg tasted past its best. The service we received was impeccable and the young lady who served us provided so much information on the menu and drink options. A beautiful place but with a meal like that it’s hard to focus on anything else, disappointing as could be an award-winning establishment.

Really comfy, clean and welcoming. Staff were amazing and constantly offered to help. We took our dog and he was welcomed 🤗 and when getting his meal staff delivered right to him. Staff couldn't help more getting us drinks, food and water for the dog. Food was lovely and the staffs recommendations were spot on. Food was amazing and portions gaint.

1st time visiting, as we're moving into the area. Have to say the food was phenomenal and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately they had an issue with the cellar due to the weather but can't fault them for an act of God! In our book it just gives us another reason to visit again (which we were going to do anyway after the delight that was dinner) to try some of the local draft ales.

Nice and cosy atmosphere, staff was great. Sad to say that the food left us wishing for more. I had the noodles which were quite bland, and was not impressed with the ingredients quality or taste. However my parents steak was lovely, well cooked and nicely presented.

Had a wonderful lunch, the pub managed to feel cosy, classy and yet spacious, a really warm welcome when we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble, a special mention for the manager, she was brilliant, patient and a credit to the pub. As were all the staff, very aware and attentive the chefs need a mention too, the menu and food were immense. The Teriyaki chicken starter was stand out, our mains were fantastic! Looking forward to trying more on the menu in the future when we get chance. Plus I'll give the Mango Pale Ale a go too.

Place is very clean and the staff are great, unfortunately the food lets it’s down, it’s fine dine prices with more of a two for one experience, we was the first of three to eat, the second complained and the third walked out! Rice pudding at £7.50 per person is astronomical

We had a bad experience it took 1hr 15mins for the food to come. I ordered the salmon en croute and it was aweful it tasted like frozen salmon and the potato rosti tasted more like hash browns, it was £26 which was way over priced for what you got.

Nice atmosphere good service but unfortunately food was a let down. Steak Pie and fish and chips were good. Noodles were uneatable very strange taste. Pesto pasta was bland also looked to have been made from the bottom of the bag pasta, as most of the pasta was in broken pieces. So wanted it to be good but not worth the high prices.

Lovely pub, pleasant attentive service, menu full of variety. The liver and colcannon mash was to die for! Highly recommended. Nice touch when staff brought ice in a separate glass for my white wine spritzer. Not seen that before. Only one criticism, have the doors in the ladies toilets open out instead of in, especially for the larger ladies like me. Thankyou

The chicken and mushroom pie was awful, the crust was sooo hard and thick, no sauce in the filling, perhaps because it was either over cooked or warmed up. You should have a gluten free menu printed, as bring a tablet to the table really singles them out to be different to everyone else. We waited longer for the desserts than our main meal and it was only ice cream! Most of the staff were too busy on their phones and catered more for the children’s side than the actual dining side. The condiments were empty and the tables were dirty too, so no, we won’t be back and we certainly will not be recommending The Highfield to anyone!

Friendly staff, fresh home made food and great atmosphere. I had lunch several times over the past couple of weeks and both the food and the service were faultless...the ownership has recently changed and what a difference! I totally recommend the posh fingers butty, or the steak & sundried ciabatta to name but a few... Enjoy!
