The Lock & Quay in Chorley

I popped in here for a beer after making the most of a sunny day and having a walk. It's under new management and the staff are really nice. I chose to sit outside. The interior of the pub is in need of a bit of modernising.

I've just taken over this venue we are hoping to start food at the end of January this is a lovely family and dog friendly venue by the canal with a lovely beer garden

We just called on on our way back from Birkacre. It's just been taken over and owner was very nice. There were only a few people in pub and there was plenty of parking. I did notice from the car park that they gave a lovely outdoor area. Would be nice in summer. The pub itself looked a little tired and in need of decorating.

Bear pub in Chorley. Lovely food and even lovelier staff. Such a shame for it to have closed

Our meals were delicious. . Lovely friendly staff. Many years since I used to go to the then Railway it has hardly changed in all that time. A lovely oldy worldly pub. Highly recommend.

Only had a drink.. Nice friendly pub.

After doing a White Coppice walk, a pint was needed. Not disappointed.

Staff are friendly. Very welcoming little pub and dog friendly near the bar. The food is reasonably priced and very good. Haven't had a bad meal there, well presented and the hot chocolates are huge! I love this place

Needed a voucher for a relative that lives quite a distance away but travels there often. Due to a hospital stay I couldn't drive and they went well above and beyond and brought the voucher to my house. Superb customer service and when we have been top notch food . Highly recommend

Great pub food. Fish and chips was one of the best I've had. Home cooked chips and really fresh flakey fish. Halumi gyro is next on the list to try. Friendly atmosphere and staff added to a great evening out

Nice pub, friendly staff, great food. It's a bit more expensive than some, but well worth it. Glad to have this pub as one of my locals.

We stayed at the Lock and Quay, Botany Bay, Chorley on Monday evening and cannot fault them for their welcome, hospitality and going out of their way to help us when we had a fairly major problem. What a lovely couple and the food was great too. I had a huge fish finger sandwich with salad and fries, with home made fish fingers and I’m still drooling now. Right next to the Leeds/Liverpool canal and close to the M61 for access. looks as if they are new in and working hard to make this work.

Grate Sunday dinner, very tasty, good portion, childs Sunday dinner available too. Plenty other things on the menu. Dog friendly inside and out. Will be coming back .

The Lock and Quay is located on the outskirts of Chorley, beside a wider stretch of the Manchester to Leeds canal. The pub exterior is OK, the interior could do with a bit of TLC, the back dining room was a bit untidy... ...but the food was tasty (only 1 veggie option on the menu, no vegan...yet..), reasonably priced and the staff friendly. Plus, this was the first time in a decade or more I've seen a Ploughman's offered on the menu. This is a good thing 😃 Used to be a superb, cheap & under-rated staple of British pub food; then it largely disappeared in favour of other more fanciful & expensive offerings. Was hoping for some more salad items and a chunk of fresh bread, though both my Dad and I both enjoyed it thoroughly. 👌 We will be back another day.

The music outside was a bit too much but the staff were lovely. Had a roast dinner and when it arrived it looked ok but when we ate it it was absolutely gorgeous! The look was a bit deceiving. Was all fresh and hot. Highly recommended

Warm welcome and great service, food was good portions and extremely tasty, was well worth the drive (we were meeting family midway) definitely worth the trip, thank you.

The only disappointment was that there was no Sunday roast choice.

Sports bar by canal, drinks ok but food not what it used to be. Microwaved cheese pie, cold peas, Gammon tough enough to sole shoes with. Friendly staff and customers.

18 of us turned up here yesterday without having booked and the pub couldn’t have been more welcoming. The food was really good and beautifully presented. More like restaurant food than a pub. Lovely friendly staff too

This is a great place to visit. The food is excellent - freshly made and piping hot. The pub is dog-friendly which is important to us. Its a great place for a meal out or for a quick snack and drink after a walk along the canal

What a lovely little find in this pub situated along side the leeds to liverpool canal. Ordered food wasnt sure what we would get but very impressed. Served quickly presentation spot on, huge amount of salad served along side. Halloumi fries are just amazing. Asked if they served cake to which non took my fancy. The manager actually went upstairs and brought down a muffin. If that's not service I don't know what is. Ladies toilet smelt divine and choice of hand lotion was great. Spotlessly clean. Will certainly visit again.

Visited yesterday with my old dog, asked for a unseasoned turkey breast for my dog. Served perfectly, cool and cooked. The human food was absolutely amazing. Staff friendly and the manager was great. Lovely atmosphere. Pass by weekly going into chorley. Will most definitely be visiting again. Well worth a visit. A+

The food was fantastic. Usually, when 10 of us are eating out, there is always 1 or more that didn't really enjoy their meal, but not this time. Everyone agreed the food was brilliant. And the chips were the best ever.

Great traditional pub with great food.

Visited here with two friends over the weekend. From the moment we walked in we felt so welcome. I brought my dog and they were lovely with her and even gave her some treats. Food was all delicious and fresh. I wouldn’t hesitate to visit again next time I’m in the area.

Went in for some food, oldie worldie type of pub, good food and good selection of drinks. Dog friendly as well.

Had a great meal here today, toasted bagette with gorgeous chips and 'to die for' onion rings. Well recommended

Saturday lunch 🥙 after a long walk.Warm and welcoming with a good choice of drinks, we weren’t disappointed by the food The Sweet chilli chicken baguette melt with skinnned chips was to die for .My daughter had Dujons which were fresh and plentiful Nice little find ,will be returning soon Highly recommended and good value for money

Have not been to this pub in years and what a little gem it is now. We were welcomed by the assistant manager who was so pleasant and polite. Most importantly the pub is dog friendly and was looked after just as much as we were. Had something to eat with my mother in law to be and we were both so impressed with the quality and quantity of the food. I had the sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection. It is rare to have steak cooked to your liking. Fries, onion rings and tomatoes were delicious. Even though I was full I still managed to eat the apple crumble and custard which again was out of this world. My mother in law had the hunters chicken and she couldn't fault it. Had a lovely chat with the landlady and landlord who were so lovely and are so keen to make a success of this pub. Thank you.

Friendly atmosphere, good food and good beers, spirits and wine.....plenty of outside seating for the summer months.....worth a visit.

Well what can I say, what a wonderful weekend we have had at the Lock and Quay. First it was party time with Santa, we as a family thoroughly enjoyed it, my daughter loved every minute of it, the food was amazing and the staff were lovely and couldn't do enough, not just for us but for everyone. Today was breakfast with Santa, again the breakfast was delicious. Again the staff were first class, including Santa, fantastic job! my daughter's face was a picture and she was so excited when she saw Santa! Thank you for everything to all the staff for a wonderful weekend! We will definitely be back, excellent customer service, friendly staff and amazing food! We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and thank you again for making my daughter's weekend so special and magical 🎄🎅🤶🧑‍🎄

Very nice food and the young girl who served us on Friday was patient, friendly, helpful and full of smiles My sister left her purse and she came running to bring it to us. Thank you so much

Lunch time today I went with a work colleague. I had the fishfinger sandwich with chips and he had the steak with a cheese sauce. The food was obviously made fresh to order, and was exceptional presented and tasted amazing.

Nice pub on the canal side. Warm welcome by the young team. Good selection of pub food, presented very well. The food arrived hot and was very tasty. Big screen for sport. If I have any negative comment the music was very out of character for the environment and clientele. But a great experience and I would definitely revisit if I was in the area.

A lovely cosy pub with a friendly atmosphere. The roast beef dinner was outstanding; beautiful flavour, lots of different veg and a faultless Yorkshire pudding and gravy. We all treated our inner children to chocolate sponge and mint custard for pudding. Nostalgia in a bowl! The only small downside was the service was a little slow. It was quite busy though, so understandable. We'll definitely be back!

Called in for a light lunch brie, mozzarella onion baguette with salad ( not keen on fries, my partner had them really good) Lovely inside, friendly staff right on canal

really enjoyed my time at the Lock and Quay Inn today, the staff was nice and professional and friendly too, the food was so good, well cooked, I had the fish today, it was splendid, so delicately cooked, the batter so nice, mushy peas nice, too, it's such a nice place and surroundings, wheelchair access too, good carpark good access to toilets, nice little menu too, definitely a place I would like to go again, thank you Lock and Quay.

Highly recommend. Found this lovely pub when looking for food... the food was amazing. I had hunter chicken and the size was great for the money... my daughter had the pizza which was home made. The chips wow best chips I've had... definitely will come back next time I visit.

Staff were lovely and friendly. Not a great range re menu wise and what we each wanted to order was not available, so I agreed to the suggested alternative. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. I had ordered the Steak in Ale pie which they didn't have, so had the 'Steak and Onion' pie instead. It was a quarter of a plate pie, not puff pastry as lead to believe and was minced beef not steak chunks so not exactly what I expected to be eating from the description I was verbally given. Food was just warm enough to eat. Its a nice pub but not somewhere I will be rushing back to for the food.

Didn't stay long, it was a quick stop for a drink after a long walk...I may have considered eating food - dishes looked nice on nearby tables , however the volume of music was a little annoying for me personally. Obviously warming up the atmosphere for the weekend..plus karaoke was due that evening..so maybe try another time. Shandy was good and outside seating plentiful.

Called here because the usual pub we go to in the area wasn't serving till the evening.i ordered a steak,cheese and onion ciabatta,with side salad and fries, my wife had tuna cheese and onion. Despite getting someone else's meal by mistake,then when our own meals arrived we found no trace of onion on our meals I wouldn't hesitate to go back,the staff were great and we had a laugh with them over the "errors",it didn't spoil anything and with a drink each came to just over £26, very reasonable for a lunch out.

Traditional English pub offering a good selection of food and drink at reasonable prices. Helpful friendly staff (despite mixup on food order). Family and dog friendly. Lovely outdoor 'beer garden' for warmer days. Can get busy (and noisy)

The young waitress who served us was very nice, but unfortunately the food took 1 hour and 15 minutes to arrive , and then we had to eat it with our fingers as the cutlery wasn't clean !

Outdoor seating out the front and back of the pub. Servers food and drinks (beers were good!) And the pub is situated at the start of the path up Healey Nab for walking out cycling and also to get into the Leeds Liverpool canal. Staff were very friendly

Ok, well I haven't tried all the food here, having been only the once yesterday. The young girls on the bar were all lovely and friendly, really attentive to everything we could need. Really can't fault them at all. The pub is really cosy. Tables clean, fresh cutlery and condiments brought when you order. £4.60 for a pint of Moretti is about right in most pubs these days I think. As for the food, well we both had the Lock & Quay burger. Topped with bacon, mushroom and mozzarella, it was a monster. In a seeded bun, which you don't see much these days (to be honest, I'm getting bored with the brioche malarky). The salad was fresh and had a tasty dressing. Fries were seasoned just enough, absolutely delicious. If this meal was anything to go by, we'll definitely be returning, as some of the other meals on the menu looked very tasty.

Lovely food, nice view of the canal.

This is the second visit for me & my family to this pub...First visit I thought I'd try a fresh pizza made on the premises in an authentic pizza oven, I had a meat feast & it most definitely did not disapoint it was yummy!!! This time I decided to try the 2 course Sunday lunch & I was thrilled to see that not one aspect of it was frozen or reheated, absolutely everything was fresh & it was delicious, worth the short wait we had, for desert I had the chocolate fudge cake & it was moist, rich & the homemade caramel sauce was gorgeous, it was the perfect way to finish lunch. This was the first visit where we were able to see inside & I have to say it's lovely, the decore is homely & welcoming...we will definitely be back.

First visit last night after the CV19 release measures. The pub was clean and tidy with us being greeted and asked to rider our drinks at the bar and they would be delivered. Strange but ok. We ordered drinks and food from I assume a limited menu due to the CV circumstances. Firstly the staff and clients walked around with no face masks on or with them half fitted so the nose was exposed. Four meals were ordered 2 gyros a pizza and a sharing platter. The pizza was burnt black on the edges, the gyros so wonderfully displayed on the Facebook page were of similar charcoaled edges and the sharing platter was some hot some cold, but the best of the bunch On asked if the food was alright I advised we had finished and showed the things above as all the plates were only half eaten. No apologies just taken away. We had another drink and and was then requested to pay, once we had asked the waitress to put a mask on we asked if we could have a discount due to the poor food. We don’t do that was the answer and we have had chef’s issues!! We will not return under this management’s poor following of rules, poor food and no customer service. Avoid or be aware, it’s not cheap food but poor quality food

Had a lovely experience, staff went above and beyond to make me and my partner feel welcome and comfortable. Having to eat outside due to covid restrictions is not the best especially when the weather is not great, however staff were very attentive and even provided me with a blanket. We arrived not long before the kitchen closed but was able to order food no problem, however we were too late for dessert I ensured the young lady serving us this was no issue but she went and asked anyway and the cook went out of his way to provide us with dessert. The food was exceptional and we were impressed with how nice it was not just the standard pub grub we were expecting. Presented nicely and cooked perfectly. Left feeling full and happy after a perfect 10 out 10 experience. The staff are a fantastic representation for the pub. Thankyou very much 😊

Very friendly atmosphere. Excellent service and friendly staff. Steak was perfectly cooked but chips were either too soggy or too hard. All in all though a lovely experience and thank you for making life feel normal again.
