Spent some quality family time celebrating mum's 80 th with her siblings. Michelle our sever could not have done more. We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves and were encouraged to laugh as loud as wanted. And stay as long as we wanted. Very grateful for the service we received.

We visited on a quiet Monday night and rang ahead as the website was a little confusing as to Monday evening opening/ food availability. We had a fabulous warm welcome and top notch service from Chelle all evening. We shared multiple small plates and all the food was cooked to perfection, with beautiful fresh veg accompaniments. The pub is under new management and we live locally so have visited a few times recently, the menu and service is constantly evolving and improving. Would certainly recommend. Can't wait for the planned building refurbishments to add to the interior dining experience

Went to the Grapes for the first time since beginning of lockdown. The management had changed since last time & the pub was about to be refurbished. We tried the sharing plate menu and have to say it was great, very tasty, well cooked & sufficient portions, all served by Chelle who was very friendly and attentive. There was a decent choice as well. Looking forward to visiting again, maybe after the refurb, & try the restaurant menu.

I went to the grapes with my wife last weekend. We shared a delicious bottle of white wine, recommended by the gentleman who was waiting on after I described what type of wine I liked. We both ordered fillet steak, which I MUST say was cooked to perfection!! The steak was accompanied by homemade chips, mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, baby onions and my personal choice was peppercorn sauce. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great with low background music - not too much to disrupt our conversations but just enough to enhance the atmosphere. The gentleman and young lady who served us were lovely and polite and I specifically thanked the chef for the food as it was superb….one of the best steaks we have tasted! Will definitely be coming back and recommending to everybody I know!

Arrived for Sunday lunch following the positive comments I’ve seen on social media. Arrived at 1230, the place was empty and we waited about 5 minutes before we were seen. When we were seated, there was no music playing. All we could hear was the foul language coming from the kitchen. At this point my partner wanted to leave, but I felt we couldn’t just up and go, so decided to stay. The roast potatoes were hard on the inside and undercooked. The beef wellington was blue and barely seared, leaving half as I couldn’t eat it (at £17!). The sticky beef was luke warm, and very little of it. However, the burger was nice. The manager did speak to my partner after noticing she left most of the roast. When I tried to give my feedback, they walked off. I’ve never been one for criticising and moaning within a restaurant, especially after the last 2 years. They did refund my partners meal, which we wasn’t expecting and intended to pay. Sadly we won’t be returning.

So lucky to have the Grapes on my doorstep. Last meal before lockdown V 2.0.The whole place is decorated in a really cool boutiquey style. It has a charm and personallity that chains just can't repplicate. So human and wellcoming. The menu is just right not a bewildering range of dishes, but it covers all the pub classics with some twists. Worth mentioning when you order they are happy to customise your choices on sides or extra's. I have had quite a few dishes all really well cooked. Yes i'm a fan. Fish and Chips are excellent, burgers are really tasty, steak lashed with butter is gorgeous. Service under the top level Covid conditions is done safely efficiently and in a warm friendly fashion. There was live entertainment in the bar so the restaurant room was empty except for us but we could see plates of food being taken through to the bar.Not a huge choice on the menu but there was something for everyone and all home made food cooked fresh.Cannot fault the home made pies or the gluten free menu for my husband, he had a gammon steak that was an inch thick and cooked perfectly, I had the steak and guiness pie and our friends tried the sea bass and the chicken and mushroom pie the only thing said was that the pie could have had more mushrooms.Nice desserts two of us had panacotta, I had golden syrup sponge and my friend had the cheesecake of the day, all went down well, good sized portions very tasty.Reasonably priced food and great atmosphere for a pub would deifinitely come back again.

Croston is a nice village with the Grapes being a very quaint old world pub/restaurant in the heart of it.There were five in our party for afternoon tea, which consisted of mini onion soup, fresh sandwiches both hot and cold, fresh scone with cream and jam, various assortment of mini cakes and an a apricot based dessert. We all chose the leek and potato soup which was okay but the roast dinners were terrible. We all said it was as if they’d been left out and reheated. Everything was dry and hard. A super find in a delightful village. We decided to try this lovely pub as we were on day release from a hectic work schedule and we are so glad we did. Firstly and most importantly for the other half the beer. Timothy Taylor's Boltmaker, well he couldn't praise it enough which is very high praise from a beer afficianado, his exact words ' you can tell this beer has been well looked after, look at the way it holds the head on it, and it tastes fabulous it's very very good' infact he had two pints it was that good. Now to the food and the delightful Kirsty who served us and chatted making sure everything was ok. The boss had Braised beef and boy it looked a gastronomic delight and did not disappoint. Even I could see the slowly cooked beef falling apart as he cut into it, again he said this really is very high quality beef more in line with a fancy restaurant than pub. Well done to the chef. I had a hot tuna and cheese baguette with salad and fries again all presented beautifully and tasted amazing. Thank you to all staff and owners of this great pub.

Young lady who served us displayed fabulous customer service which supported a perfect Sunday afternoon treat. We did expect off the bone lamb and beef however sliced lean and to perfection. Best Yorkshire puds ever, not greasy and plentiful and a lovely calm enjoyable atmosphere with the bonus of a buble song in the background. Another treat was the price, so reasonable for what we had

Ate here last night after some recommendations and I could not say how impressed I was. The food was much better than just standard pub grub. Steak was cooked perfectly. The service was polite and we weren’t rushed. Will definitely be returning.

Have sent a private message to the management as I felt this was the fairest way of reviewing this eatery. I don't agree with having to share my review (good or bad) without first contacting the management.

Stumbled across this lovely pub today. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us. We took our dog and the owner fetched him a bowl of water and doggy biscuits. We will certainly call back and highly recommend this pub. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

As we had eaten here before l decided that l would take my wife Jane, for a meal on her birthday. l had booked the table for 7pm. We were a little early but as we entered the bar the landlord and landlady were there and we were given a very warm welcome. We were shown to our table and our drinks brought to us along with the menu. We decided on starters of chicken liver pate' with cherito served with warm chiabate bread and mine was a ham hock ballentine with chutney, pickled onions and thinly sliced warm chiabate bread, they were absolutely fantastic, very very tastey. Our main meals consisted of large battered Haddock, Chips and garden peas and my wife ordered Mussles in white wine and cream sauce and fries served with a warm flat bread, again the food was top class and very well presented. The service was top notch and to be totally honest, l don't think we will be eating out anywhere else for a long time and we will be shouting from the hills and dales just how good The Grapes is, well done and keep on trucking Sharon and Dave.

We had a catch up with family visiting from Oz and everyone enjoyed their time here. The food was excellent but the star of the show is the beer. The landlord is clearly passionate about what he offers beer wise. Well looked after beers, with Timmy Taylor’s landlord being the stand out.. I didn’t want to leave!

My friends and I were out walking last week and came across The Grapes at Croston. We sat outside where there is lots of seating and lovely flowers-and had a well deserved drink served by very friendly staff . This week we returned and had lunch there. The menu is so varied it was hard to choose what to eat. I decided on beef lasagne, with rocket and flat bread. One friend had gammon egg and pineapple with all the trimmings and the other had small fish and chips, (wouldn’t like to try the large portion), the food was well presented and absolutely scrumptious. Then came the desserts, profiteroles with white chocolate and peach crumble with with creamiest custard , delicious! This is family run and hats off to them for what they have achieved so far. Compliments to the chef and all the staff, we will definitely return.

Myself and my friend decided we need to meet up somewhere in between Southport and Heath Charnock so my husband suggested Croston. We were undecided as to The Wheatsheaf or The Grapes neither of us having eaten in either before. I suggested The Grapes after having a sneaky look on the websites menu.

We treated ourselves to another visit to the Grapes and weren’t disappointed. Absolutely fantastic food and a lovely bottle of wine to top it off. It is very reasonably priced and the service is great. We ate far too much but it’s hard not to when it tastes so good!

Was really disappointed. Menu was uninspiring and the atmosphere was the same. Used to go a few years ago and really liked the place but probably won't return. £25 for a main is a bit steep for average food.

Restaurant has significantly declined compared to past experiences over the years. Musty damp smell as you walk in 3/4 Empty restaurant on what should be the peak time (this in itself isn’t an issue however was not a good indication of things to come). Waited over an hour for food in an empty restaurant despite asking twice where it was. Food arrived cold, burnt and inedible The only reason this got a poor rating over terrible is because the staff were nice. It’s like they accept they know things are awful but it is out of their hands. Didn’t complain about the food as the overall ethos I felt that this was not worth doing as nothing would be acted upon. I only give constructive feedback in person if I feel it’s helpful and will be acted on. This pub feels like the decline is so bad, it’s not worth complaining in person. I’m only posting here so other people don’t waste their time and money. Only restaurant meal we have ordered takeaway to collect on way home whilst our meal is in front of us. We saw the funny side and laughed for 20 minutes about this. We consider this experience a lesson learned, £40 odd quid of education and to never come here again.
