This is hands down the best Sunday dinner I’ve had. I had the belly pork. It was cooked to perfection. Staff were great and very friendly. Recommend any one to come.

I went for Christmas 🌲 lunch with 3 friends. The food was really good and the staff are all lovely. I would recommend to go there anytime. A really good place to eat and have a drink

The Sunday roast is really good value. Delicious and plentiful portions. We will definitely return and try out the weekday menu which looks really good.

We booked The Travellers Rest to celebrate a special birthday with family. From the very start they were very accommodating, to help us enjoy a memorable night. The quality of the food was fantastic and the service was first class, despite being 17 of us. A special shout out for the super friendly and efficient Sara - who oversaw the whole evening. With friendly staff, good food and value for money, this place takes some beating. Big thank you Travs, we will definitely be back

We called in for lunch this week just before the rain came! The options on the menu were excellent something to suit all tastes, amazing vegetation selection not just the usual one or two options. Quality of food and service was second to none, really friendly host👌🏻, 100% recommend a visit and will be back to try more from the menu and the Sunday lunch!

We were served mainly by Graham who was lovely very friendly and very knowledgeable. The food was lovely it was the best beef dinner I’d had in a long time and the syrup sponge was amazing we will definitely be back

Three Sunday lunches. All great served piping hot and plenty of it. Generous deserts served with a smile by Graham.

Me and my parents popped in to get our Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed, absolutely outstanding service from start to finish. First walked in and was greeted by Sarah who was just amazing, nice and friendly with a smile on her face and made us feel so welcomed! Got seated and was not rushed in anyway, the atmosphere was really relaxing and homely. All the staff where really friendly too and so polite. Now the main event, the food. It was simply gorgeous, everything cooked to perfection and couldn’t get over the size of the yorkshire puds!! Was absolutely stuffed. The whole experience was 11/10 and we will 100% be retuning and recommending to all of our friends!

My family and I have ate at “The Travs” many times over the years, and as can often be the case over a long period of time, standards can fluctuate. So, it is great to see them back at their best. We popped out midweek for an early dinner and as we had heard the food had improved again we really wanted to give it another try. It. Was. Delicious! My husband and son both chose the Napoleon burger from the nightly special, my mother chose fish & chips and I had the bubble & squeak. Sarah and Chris have obviously got their kitchen brigade in good order because they knocked it out of the park. Great food, even better value and prompt, polite service. Keep it up guys because The Travs is back where it belongs!

I’ve been to the Travellers Rest many many times in the past for a few beers and never had food until today. I had mince and dumplings which was beautiful, the missus had a standard roast beef dinner, I swear there was must have been half a cow in the plate, her mother had a small roast beef dinner. The Yorkies were the biggest I’ve ever seen. It’s well worth a visit if you haven’t already sampled the food. 10/10

As a family we came on a visit to consett and on the first night needed food and stumbled across this pub, Have to say it was such good quality and value that we rebooked for 2 nights later for our wedding anniversary and again the food and staff didn’t disappoint. We’ll worth a visit

What should have been a wonderful meal. Destroyed by a male member of staffs unbelievable attitude to a six year olds omission in saying” thank you “ when ordering his desert. Due to disbelief we did not cause a stir. But not one of us will set foot in the place ever again My husband did complain to a member of staff when we left. Very sad!

When you go to a restaurant for a special occasion and your little boy is reprimanded by a member of staff! He then went on to say he was going to put things in our food! I think not, absolutely shocking. I’ve ate in numerous restaurants and never in my life have I had this ever happen. He does not have the right to speak to anyone like he did never mind my 6 year old son!!!! I would never allow any Friends or family of mine eat here sever agin! Rude,obnoxious,full of himself,ignorant

Food was excellent, hygiene was very good. It was everything you could want for going somewhere for food. Will definitely go again even though its 50 minutes drive.

Back for food again . Managed to get a table for a while to eat. Service is wonderful in here with pleasant staff who fall over them selves to help. Banter is good too. Enjoyed our food again. Some other places could learn a thing or two from here.

Beautiful meal yet again .venue has been decorated during lockdown and it's looking great . Staff and table service was brilliant.i would recomend this to locals and people passing through .

Came here for a nice meal out with friends, when we arrived they had us stood in the middle of the restaurant waiting for a table for about 5 minutes. I ordered a rump steak which I asked for RARE and then we waiting over an hour for our food to actually arrive. My steak came out medium. When the lady came over to ask if everyone was ok, she was made aware that my steak was not how i asked for it to come. She turned around and said ‘well it is pink’ when I said it was not rare, she was a very rude and ignorant lady. I mentioned I did not want another one as i waited over an hour for it in the first place. When the food came they did not supply cutlery as we had to ask for them. This place is not worth attending for food, as the staff are very rude and not up to standards. As for the social distancing in this place it is like being in a pig pen, there are no restrictions whatsoever. As for the bill, we asked for it and we sat for about 20 minutes and had to ask 3 times for it. The lady at the till downstairs she was very kind and apologised for the inconvenience. But I would not recommend this place whatsoever.

the place was quite full, on Saturday night, we had a good meal, the waiter was miserable as sin, when we were ordering and talking he seemed to sigh, me and my mate were quite annoyed by this, we thought about asking him what his problem was but did not want to create a scene,.there also seems to be a big problem with people passing packets of white powder just before going in and coming out of the toilet, if you do not believe me replay your CCTV, our table started having bets how quick the same people would use the toilet, it was a twenty minute cycle, and some standing outside the ladies until the males came out of the gents to give them a package.

Once again I had fish &: chips, I had mine in bread crumbs very enjoyable plenty of, my partner had the great British breakfast the best he has had the plate was full none greasy which is the , my cousin had mince & dumplings again plenty of and really lovely my cousin & I share the two meals for a tenner so for the three of us to eat there and a soft drinks is lest than £30 which is good , the staff very friendly and always make you welcome we have had three visits there and they don’t forget you we will be going back soon

We visited this pub for the first time today and will certainly go back soon, my partner had full English breakfast not a bit greasy well presented and plenty to eat very enjoyable, my cousin had jacket potato & chilli again very nice indeed myself had fish in breadcrumbs & chips & peas plenty off all meals very nice , two of us had light bite 2 meals for £10 plenty to eat , staff very nice friendly and helpful give it a try

My daughter moved to Consett over 2 years ago and my first port of call is The Travllers Rest., a few beers before eating and ive never been disapointed with the food. From the ribeye steak to sunday lunchs..Can get busy but the staff always there to help..til the next timr!

A group of 12 of us arrived here for dinner, and we all left very full The food was good, the service was excellent Its very much pub grub- but done very well, and healthy sized portions!

Had the most amazing Sunday Lunch here today, we both opted for the mince and dumplings which was really lovely, highly recommend it !!! and the staff were so friendly and welcoming, definitely worth a visit 👌

We visited as a midweek treat, I had the Fajitas and the arrived sizzling they had the right amount of spice, the food was fresh and well presented. The staff were friendly and welcoming, it was a lovely pub to visit, definitely worth a visit

Me and some friends went here not along ago and we were blown away by the delicious burgers. I would highly recommend and will be visiting again when I come back to the north east. Staff were “canny” as well.

Went for an 18th birthday asked for food in advance due to the amount of people there. Every meal was good we ordered 5 medium steaks and all were done exact. Plenty of choice on the menu.

Came out for tea for my birthday after a weekend away, opted for two meals off the specials board, the salmon and prawn pasta and the chicken in tarragon sauce.....both were absolutely outstanding and would highly recommend, the staff who served us were fabulous and made my birthday afternoon feel even more special, fab and thankyou x

Had a lunch time meal for two people special £10. Home made chips were very good and quantity was enough to eat. Music playing in background was quite noisy and was overpowering for a conversation with my partner. Service was good and staff friendly.

we booked a table for 22 guests at least 2 weeks prior to the party even going to the trouble of pre ordering some of the food to help them out ! We received a telephone call the afternoon before the party to split our group 12 upstairs and the rest downstairs they explained they found it difficult for guests to dine downstairs due to fowl language and needed the tables/space upstairs for adhoc guests but expected us to dine downstairs with children

Fabulous meal again starter, main and deserts were terrific..xmas fayre ..service great...highly recommended

Visited here with friends. Food was ok in parts. 4 of us got fillet steak and while it was ok it wasn't worth the price. Would visit again but to have more 'pub' style food.

Food awful waited a hour for main meal and it wasn’t busy, food over done left at least half of meal never be back. Only good thing was the waiter he was pleasant.

No comparison to last time we were here (some time ago). It appears to be run by different people. The service was OK, if rather overbearing! My sons steak pudding was disgusting. He could hardly cut through the pastry and the filling was dry and tough. The accompanying meagre veg portion was well overcooked and left uneaten.

Went here with my sister for lunch, we ordered drinks at the bar after we had got a table, we ordered nachos to start, 20 minute wait, then we had 2 sirloin steaks 1of which was undercooked the other overcooked the prawns with them were very nice but the sauce was bland, we were asked if everything was ok and just said yes as we had been in over an hour and a half and needed to leave, altogether not a great experience and i doubt we will return.

Went here for tea once. Nice little local pub with good bait and beer. Typical local pub. Enjoyed it as expected.

I came with my family for a Sunday lunch/lunch, I Came in, ordered drinks and was seated at a table upstairs,the menu was very very limited so fish and chips and Sunday lunches were chosen, we waited 15 minutes for the food to arrive only for a waitress to come and tell us that there was no cod left! We left without anything and paid for the drinks. The manager was very rude to us when we told him our opinion on the menu and offered no help,

Nice meal. You could also have a la carte meals. Good accessibility for the wheelchair. Service was a little slow.

We eat here regularly and we have never had a bad meal. I would describe it as good, tasty pub food with plenty of choice and something to suit everyone. The staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble.

Having eaten here a few times and loving it, I took friends here for a 50th birthday.. After being seated it took well over 1 hour 20 to get meal... very slow I almost walked out. Staff still very friendly but would think twice about going here on a weekend

I’ve eaten at the Travellers Rest on many occasions and have never been disappointed. The quality of the meals will match any top restaurant, and I’ve eaten in many at home and abroad.

I cannot thank the team enough we attended on the 21st Jan our party was 18 the service was fab well as the meal and because of this we are returning well done guys was FANTASTIC

Fantastic warm friendly pub with great food and fantastic service by all staff .it was the mixed grill for me and a few sharers for my other half followed with a few pint of nice cold pints and a few gins from the selection behind the bar .

This is one of my favourite places in Consett to eat. Lovely atmosphere with real coal fire(in winter months) You have seating choice of downstairs or upstairs(with view of bar/seating area downstairs) Staff are very friendly. Would highly recommend. They do 2 for £10 Mon-Thur uptil 5.30pm & sizzlers are superb too

We both choose off the special board and both meals excellent.....well done to Paul and the kitchen staff couldn't fault it amazing. Like how the specials change regularly good choice now. Bar staff excellent as always....friendly and attentive.

My wife and I have visited here for drinks for quite some time now but for one reason or another have never dined here. We ate here on a recent busy Friday evening however thankful that we had booked a table as it was quite busy. The menu is extremely extensive with something for everyone at really affordable prices. We had a bucket of hot and spicy chicken wings to start; there was plenty of them and they were very tasty. I think I would like to have some type of dip with them in the future though. For our main courses we each chose a burger; my wife had a chicken burger whilst I had a cheese burger with bacon. They were served with wedges and French fries respectively together with some massive onion rings. The burgers were huge and extremely delicious. Service throughout the meal was first class and very attentive. The waitresses certainly work hard here to keep the customers satisfied. The cost of the meal together with several rounds of drinks including pints of San Miguel and large glasses of wine amounted to about £52 which I think for the quality of food and service is excellent. All the staff who work here are friendly and approachable and make the TR a brilliant all round pub. I would not describe this place as a "gastro-pub" but it definitely provides good quality down to earth dishes which will fill you up.

Thought me and my Dad would try a different place for Sunday Lunch.. Worst ever mistake, we must have been in nearly 3 hours. People who came in after us were getting served before us.. we had to ask the waitreds as we sat for half an hour waiting for someone to take our order. After an hour went by, our food arrived without veg, all I had was a blob of mash, chicken and a Yorkshire pudding. We had a look around and everyone had long plates of veg. We had to ask again for veg and all we got was a little dish of cauliflower and carrot between us. We left there still famished.. won't be back for a Sunday Lunch.

Visited for a midday bar meal whilst visiting local company. Had checked Trip Advisor to make choice of where to eat. The food here is exceptional and the staff were very helpful and polite also. Will visit again if I'm in the area again.

Had quite a few meals here since it was opened. Good quality food,friendly staff. church pews used for seating as well as other seats and tables. Old doors brought up to date, some have very large keyholes. Flooring is the old paving stones from Durham market place I was told. Nice place.

Lovely looking pub, possibly the best in Consett with polite bar and serving staff. Drinks are reasonably priced and the food is lovely well worth a visit. On Friday and Saturday nights it does get busy so best to book in advance

Visited here for the first time with my boyfriends family. It has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are all very friendly! We waited quite a while for the food but when it came you could tell it was all freshly made. I had the Cajun chicken burger and it was gorgeous! Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning!!

Second time I've visited and it excelled itself. Came in for a casual drink but had a look at the menu as well. I ordered the Cumberland ring with mash. I have to say the food was beautiful with a great cosy atmosphere. Definitely return!

Usually have mince and dumplings which sounds really boring but it's not, really lovely and so so popular !!! , Run out of it today when we got there so opted for the Chicken and the Belly Pork instead....my god, it was so so nice, got loads and left feeling so stuffed. Staff fantastic but I would recommend booking if you have a larger party than 2 x

The Travellers is just outside the town centre on the road to Delves Lane. Quite a lively pub with a decent selection of beers with regular guest ales. The pub serves reasonable pub food at a reasonable price.

Popped in for lunch always a friendly welcome from the staff on arrival. They have a lovely menu and always have a specials board. I fancied the seafood chowder but it was unavailable so I went for my usual vegetarian burger with mushrooms and caramelised onions homemade chips and coleslaw it was absolutely beautiful and very well presented, the other half had the ribs and chicken with all the trimmings to absolutely lovely once again. We always find the travellers food and staff give 100% on every visit that's is we love this place. We would highly recommend here to eat or just for a friendly drink .

I often go to the Travellers since the refurbishment a good few years ago and feel I have found a place that has both atmosphere as a Pub should have and great food to compliment this local venue for all the family.The Staff are always helpful and for any sporting events be it F1 or Football there are more than enough TV's to catch whatever you fancy,

Wish I lived closer to this place. Its been a year since last visit and had another lovely meal. Highly recommend the lasagna and steak fajitas. If your in the area don't pass by this place.

Have been to this pub three times for food each time the quality has been very average. The menu is varied and the service quite good maybe I've just been unlucky. Have had good comments from other people.

Excellent menu, loads of choice....... rustic, local pub feel with crackling log fire and comfy seats. Those who know Consett's steel/rail history will recognise the heritage in the chunky wood sleepers and waiting room style seats. Great table service from a young but very keen chap who was keen to pass on the details of forthcoming real ales and themed food nights. Thank you kindly, we will be back!

Nice cosy atmosphere and rustic. Dining area upstairs away from main bar area.Really good food piping hot and decent portion sizes too. Plenty choice on the menu.Nice selection of beers and spirits.Good service from waiting staff.I Will be back.

We had our works Christmas party here and it was absolutely terrible. Waited an hour for food, they had no prosecco (even though it was requested ahead). Starters were of poor quality and very small portions, NO Yorkshire puddings with the roast dinner, just a few hard vegetables and dry meat. The fish was even worse, being so dry and hard, it was inedible. The deserts faired no better...a trifle was made from some jelly with tinned custard and squirty cream...the chef should be embarrassed. They forgot/missed some people's meals, got drinks wrong and served meagre dishevelled offerings, the boss actually went home to get drinks from his fridge. Absolutely dire.

Blink and you'll miss this pub in amongst houses. Group of friends visited on a Sunday tea time, good Sunday lunch, generous meat portions and good gravy! Friendly service and a birthday candle in my treacle sponge topped off a lovely meal!

Just had a fantastic Sunday lunch, belly pork with crackling, mash, roasties, massive Yorkshire pudding and veg cooked to perfection. Excellent service from Beth, will definitely be back .

Visited here a couple of sundays ago for lunch it was perfect the nicest sunday lunch we have ever had so fresh and tasty and the staff were fantastic nothing is a bother for them lovely cosy friendly place

I moved to London over four years ago but still visit home when I can. I came here for some quiet drinks with my mum and dad and a meal and I had a lovely time.Good atmosphere, great service, amazing food.The only thing I will say is that when it's busy, it's hard to hear as the sound bounces off the wooden floors but I wouldn't let that stop me coming back. It's a pub, what do you expect?

Visited recently for a few drinks with friends having not been for a while. Pub continues to offer a great friendly service and good food. Place was packed but we didn't have to wait long for service. Atmosphere is friendly and civil (no idiots in!) and we will endeavour to visit the pub more often.

There was quite a bit on the menu, but not enough meals of which people might buy in this area, prices were fine, nice and clean place. Staff were responsive and quick. They were also helpful. Would recommend this pub to anyone in the local area for drinks and food. The food we ordered was perfect.

We have been to the Travellers around six times now always for Sunday lunch which has been excellent and very good value for money on each occasion. The portions are hearty and the meat has always been tender and well cooked, the slow roast belly pork in particular was a treat. Huge Yorkshire puds and a decent vegetable selection. Also have been a few times on an evening just for drinks and found it a nice place to sit and be sociable with friends.

We arrive about 2 o'clock plenty of room no waiting the young girl waiting on was really helpful.We both had roast dinners plenty of meat, huge Yorkshire puddings loads of veg and extra gravy.We will definitely go again.

This is the best place to eat in consett by far! Was served by a young ginger boy, I think he was called Niall fantastic young chap really helpful with the menu and his recommendations which paid off as they were fantastic!

I visited this pub for a drink on a Friday night , not knowing what to expect. The half empty bar stocked the usual mass produced beers as one would expect , yet had only a tiny selection of guest ales. The bar staff were a bit haughty and never made me feel welcome. They could not stand still, fussing all over the place, cleaning things that did not need cleaning and constantly tidying up, trying to impress the young man who appeared to be in charge. A change of attitude and a little customer service training wouldn't go amiss.

This was my first visit to this pub having passed it nearly every day since it opened, and as my family invited me for lunch there I was sceptical having read recent reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised it the place is clean and well presented with a good friendly atmosphere. The menu was diverse and a reasonable price considering the portion sizes which were large. So don't go ordering a sweet, if you do pace yourself. I had the belly pork, which came with a good aray of vegetables, stuffing, mash, roasted potatoes, and Yorkshire pudding. After which I was well satisfied. In conclusion a good place with better than average food, good service and atmosphere. Well worth a visit in my opinion. Cheers

I went in without booking on a Sunday and would have understood if had no availability but I was lucky and as was just 2 of us we sat downstairs in nice little spot, there was a good deal on a 2 course I had main and dessert my little one just choose to have soup , we both enjoyed the food and the staff all seemed friendly enough, the style of the place stone floor is nice and it's a pub I'd feel I could come for just a drink or food which is fab as so many places feel like just eating establishments now, definitely be back

Hadn't been here for a while so we popped in on a Saturday lunch time . Always a warm welcome when we arrive from the staff . Food is always top notch I had vegetarian deluxe burger the other half had the classic burger ? I think both were lovely presentation spot on the only thing I would criticise were the chips little too crunchy(hard) for me but it didn't stop me from eating them . The young waitress was efficient and friendly definitely be back soon
