One of the best if not the best Sunday lunches locally

Some days it's amazing food and some days it's just absolutely awful. Wonder if they have more than one chef working there? Can't fault the staff though.

Went on a Friday afternoon and staff were very helpful. The fish and chips very good and value for money. The lady and gent kept the drinks flowing and the food arrived very warm. Lovely afternoon with great service. Thanks

booked a table for 10 as it was my wifes 70 birthday, informed on the wednesday we had to all pre order food for the friday 6.30pm. we arrived 620 pm at reception informed table upstairs, rest of the family arrived 6.30pm. at 6.55pm I had to ask a member of staff when would the meals arrive, the meals arrived two at a time so slow. 9 of the family had there meal but mine did not arrive till most of them had finished there meals. the meals are just average & drinks pricey. the open fire down in the bar all you could smell was smoke upstaires. not the best eveing out with very poor service this was the first time I have been in this pub very a very long time, I will never go back again. note no reply from the owner

Brought Scouse Rob here 3 times and never had a bad meal. Sunday dinner was particularly good, belly pork was cooked perfectly.

We went along this afternoon with a couple of friends who are lucky to have The Travellers Rest as their local ..,it’s our second time there for Sunday Lunch and again we were totally impressed by the food .. I chose lamb my husband had beef succulent and loads of it …. Beautiful fresh vegetables… massive yorkies and a jug full of the best gravy ever … very reasonably priced ..,, but one of the best things about this place is the staff .,, everyone is super efficient and so very friendly … I’m actually quite jealous that they have this on their doorstep ….

Nice quiet calm welcoming environment lovley place I decided to be greedy and have doubled up cheese burger and chips probs best burger ive had in a few years was well presented full of flavor, great food, hats off to the chef i will drop in again in the future when in the area for sure

Lovely meal here with my husband, the food was fantastic and my husband (who always complains about how his steak is cooked) said it was perfect. Graham the waiter was also so attentive and lovely and really made the atmosphere enjoyable! Thank you for a lovely night

Been here many times the past few month and never had a bad experience, Sunday lunches and evening meals are equally delicious Staff go above and beyond to accommodate at even short notice , Graham is just the best , as are Sarah Oliver and the rest One of our granddaughters fave places to come for lunch 🥗 Oh forgot to mention the desserts are amazing too Don’t take our word tho , try for yourself 😘

Great food with great service. That was the case, food is now served in a slightly better fashion than weather spoons. Menu has lost all it's good bits, no specials board. The service is not much better especially behind the bar, attitude at its finest. Used to the best place in Consett but gone seriously downhill. Won't be going back

Great small pub that has good food and displays sports on the tv as well. Was pretty busy at the time I was there but still great service and not a long waiting time till the food was ready. Downstairs is more like the pub area and upstairs the restaurant part. Had a Deluxe Burger wich was an absolutly amazing burger, fresh bread, juicy burger and fries or chips. Good price as well for what you get, I paid £13,95 for the whole plate

This is hands down the best Sunday dinner I’ve had. I had the belly pork. It was cooked to perfection. Staff were great and very friendly. Recommend any one to come.

I went for Christmas 🌲 lunch with 3 friends. The food was really good and the staff are all lovely. I would recommend to go there anytime. A really good place to eat and have a drink

Food was lovely as was the service unfortunately we were seated next to the toilets and there was an odour every time someone entered/exited that wasn't pleasant while eating

The Sunday roast is really good value. Delicious and plentiful portions. We will definitely return and try out the weekday menu which looks really good.

We booked The Travellers Rest to celebrate a special birthday with family. From the very start they were very accommodating, to help us enjoy a memorable night. The quality of the food was fantastic and the service was first class, despite being 17 of us. A special shout out for the super friendly and efficient Sara - who oversaw the whole evening. With friendly staff, good food and value for money, this place takes some beating. Big thank you Travs, we will definitely be back

Returned today waited at bar for 10 mins while staff ignored me got Sunday dinna very Bland packet roast beef roast potatoes tastedr reaheated very small portion yorky and gravey where very nice lumpy mash won't return disappointed £42 on a very Bland dinna for 2

We called in for lunch this week just before the rain came! The options on the menu were excellent something to suit all tastes, amazing vegetation selection not just the usual one or two options. Quality of food and service was second to none, really friendly host👌🏻, 100% recommend a visit and will be back to try more from the menu and the Sunday lunch!

First time here for a Sunday lunch, amazing starter of chicken goujons, then I went for the chicken dinner, only thing lacking was the amount of chicken, it wasn't even a full breast of it, it was half, it tasted great and everything else on the plate was amazing, just the amount of meat, everyone else in the party got beef and there was plenty of this on their plates, just an observation provide a full chicken breast for a Sunday lunch not half of one lol. The pudding was incredible, toffee crunch pie with cream to round it off. Really good prices and a lovely traditional pub feel in the inside, will definitely go back but get beef next time lol.

Visited one lunchtime and was surprised at how lovely this place is inside. Easy to get a table and we had not booked. It’s in an unappealing area of Consett (just my opinion), just slightly out of the centre and we had wrongly assumed it would be a bit run down inside. It wasn’t at all, it was lovely. Staff were very friendly and helpful, greeted with a beaming smile from the woman on the bar. We ordered our food at the table. Freshly cooked but if I’m honest the portions were small and the plates themselves were too small for the food and my fish kept falling into the table as I tried to cut it! I enjoyed my fish and chips but my husband was disappointed with his honey chilli chicken. A lot of his fries were all clumped together and the chicken breast was tiny. The plate was padded out with salad😂. He was unimpressed by the portion size for the cost of the meal. The decor is rustic and very nice and there are some free parking spaces outside. Would come back for a drink maybe but possibly not food as we didn’t think it was value for money compared to other local places. If you want friendly staff, a friendly atmosphere and choice of drinks, give it a go. If the food had been slightly better I’d have given 5 stars.

Came here with a few friends and two of us got chips and they weren't very nice. But the Sunday dinner that one of us got was nice. Just depends on what you get I suppose. Friendly staff though!

An amazing little jewel. Fabulous pub/restaurant. Service was fantastic - did not get the name of our server but he was amazing. Polite, friendly and game for a laugh. Fast efficient service with enough time between courses. Food was fresh, piping hot and delicious. A good old fashioned atmosphere. Plenty of parking available. I would highly recommend a visit to this pub.. Sunday lunchtime can be busy so booking is advised... .

Three Sunday lunches. All great served piping hot and plenty of it. Generous deserts served with a smile by Graham.

1st class service and food this evening. We have visitors from NZ and Surrey staying with us and all agreed the staff and food were brilliant. Looking forward to a revisit soon 👍

Brilliant!! This was our first visit. We had a level of expectation given the menu we had read online. A while level up when we got inside. The atmosphere was brilliant, bustling but not noisy, friendly, and welcoming. Our waiter Glen couldn't do enough for us. He's knowledgeable and very personable.

Me and my parents popped in to get our Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed, absolutely outstanding service from start to finish. First walked in and was greeted by Sarah who was just amazing, nice and friendly with a smile on her face and made us feel so welcomed! Got seated and was not rushed in anyway, the atmosphere was really relaxing and homely. All the staff where really friendly too and so polite. Now the main event, the food. It was simply gorgeous, everything cooked to perfection and couldn’t get over the size of the yorkshire puds!! Was absolutely stuffed. The whole experience was 11/10 and we will 100% be retuning and recommending to all of our friends!

My family and I have ate at “The Travs” many times over the years, and as can often be the case over a long period of time, standards can fluctuate. So, it is great to see them back at their best. We popped out midweek for an early dinner and as we had heard the food had improved again we really wanted to give it another try. It. Was. Delicious! My husband and son both chose the Napoleon burger from the nightly special, my mother chose fish & chips and I had the bubble & squeak. Sarah and Chris have obviously got their kitchen brigade in good order because they knocked it out of the park. Great food, even better value and prompt, polite service. Keep it up guys because The Travs is back where it belongs!

Lovely pub and decent beer,,and nice pork panini with salad were the Long Eaton United FC supporters who visited your pub before the game with consett FC earlier today..

Came for a meal and drinks with colleagues and friends and experienced a lovely atmosphere. It was busy due to there being a world cup match on but we went upstairs and were able to get a table. Reasonable prices and attentive staff. Would happily visit again.

I’ve been to the Travellers Rest many many times in the past for a few beers and never had food until today. I had mince and dumplings which was beautiful, the missus had a standard roast beef dinner, I swear there was must have been half a cow in the plate, her mother had a small roast beef dinner. The Yorkies were the biggest I’ve ever seen. It’s well worth a visit if you haven’t already sampled the food. 10/10

Never will be beaten, outstanding service all day beer wise. The chef then made a steak and the world was a different place. This is not a place where you can descirbe how brilliant the food and drink are.6 stars.

Everytime I've walked past this pub its always got people out there who end up saying something, it makes walking close here upsetting since being right next to a pedestrian bridge, even animals left here such as horses not being tied up. This pub needs its priorities straightened out, those benches outside of it makes this pub a nightmare for those who don't want to socialise having to socialise since drinkers, would rate it better, get extreme negative vibes going past here, would rate it better if they did something about those benches. Do not want to even go inside for a drink, why must this pub be right next door to a pedestrian access bridge? Now having to take alternative paths in order to avoid this problem, those picnic benches gotta go, tired of people constantly trying to talk to anyone going past, its absolute anxiety ridden, only going to rate it 1 star, even the inside of this pub doesn't look that nice and drink selections are more priced up! Travellers rest? More Horsed up BS rest.

Had an amazing dinner with even better service!!! As Americans traveling in the area we totally recommend the Wednesday burger night! We tried the Mexican burger, the Mediterranean burger and the Chaplin burger- all were tasty and made with fresh ingredients! Glenn and the other young man (red hair, sorry I didn't catch his name) working tonight we both so nice and helpful with their recommendations. We really enjoyed discussing traveling and music with them!

The guy serving was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the food and made us feel very welcome. The menu was good and the food was tasty.

The food is nice and arrives pretty quickly, and it is all fairly priced. The only issue I have is the lack of vegetarian and vegan options, especially on a Sunday. Although the staff were kind enough to offer an extra Yorkshire pudding and veggie gravy on my order of a Sunday dinner without any meat so it was a decent meal. I would just like more veggie options as the only one actually listed in the Sunday menu was bubble and squeak. Which is strange given how common different dietary requirements are these days.

As a family we came on a visit to consett and on the first night needed food and stumbled across this pub, Have to say it was such good quality and value that we rebooked for 2 nights later for our wedding anniversary and again the food and staff didn’t disappoint. We’ll worth a visit

When you go to a restaurant for a special occasion and your little boy is reprimanded by a member of staff! He then went on to say he was going to put things in our food! I think not, absolutely shocking. I’ve ate in numerous restaurants and never in my life have I had this ever happen. He does not have the right to speak to anyone like he did never mind my 6 year old son!!!! I would never allow any Friends or family of mine eat here sever agin! Rude,obnoxious,full of himself,ignorant

What should have been a wonderful meal. Destroyed by a male member of staffs unbelievable attitude to a six year olds omission in saying” thank you “ when ordering his desert. Due to disbelief we did not cause a stir. But not one of us will set foot in the place ever again My husband did complain to a member of staff when we left. Very sad!
