The Traveller's Joy in Chichester

Very friendly country pub, close to the Camping and Caravan site so very handy and no driving involved. Had a great lunch the fish pie was to die for! Nicky and Craig and all the staff were very engaging and made our time in the pub one of enjoyment. Great range of beers, wines and spirits - hadn't had HSB for a while and it was in excellent condition. We will be back on our next trip to the area.

Lovely pub, good pint of Guinness, didn't eat here but saw a fish & chips meal served and it was huge 😋.

My wife and I have just had an amazing lunchtime meal here. I had the steak burger and my wife had the fish pie. The pie was huge but was fantastic and very well cooked and tasty. Had to take half home it was so big. The steak burger was the best I have ever had and came with a lot of chips and Mexican Chipotle sauce. I thought it was 1,000 island so found it a bit hot for me but very nice though. The garlic cheese bread was also fantastic and a good sized portion. Washed down with a lovely refreshing large glass of Pinot Grigio wine. We have been here a few times over the years and it never disappoints.

I absentmindedly went looking for a fry up brekkie....I just went on the wrong day, the TJ has been on my bucket list for while and I am soooo glad I bucketed and had a T riffic and tasty meal and coffee at a competitive price ( I felt like a real London beefeater haha) the staff were pleasant and "on the ball" it will not be my regular eatery due to my working shift. But I will go back and try their other fairs.

On holiday & this year had the Sunday roast. Good size portions and fresh veg. We loved it and would recommend. Good value too.

This is a difficult review as the staff are lovely but there needs to be a few changes before I come back , there's way to many tables to such a small area they need a extension to be honest, and please find away even if it's a curtain to stop the fly's so many around your food it's horrible experience, and maybe have some background music playing it's very dull but with the right things it could be fantastic

The food was absolutely delicious. I wanted a starter and a pudding but just had the linguine and I couldn’t eat it all! Really generous portions. Will definitely be going back. Really cosy and welcoming atmosphere.

The Traveller's Joy is a lovely, traditional pub, popular with locals which is always a good sign as well as tourists. The young team are very friendly and efficient and the food whilst not fancy is good. What I would like to see is some investment by the brewery, Fullers. New glasses are needed as many in use are marked, as if not clean. i would defy anyone to balance a drink on the wonky picnic tables and dead hanging baskets are not a good look! Even so, we will continue visiting this lovely pub.

Excellent high quality pub food with a nice selection of ales and drinks. We enjoyed it so much we visited 4x in the one week we were in the area.

35 odd years ago my dad would bring me and my sister here most weekends I was passing after not being on the island for 8 or 9 years and 17 years since I left the island. Great service generous helping of food can't beat it

Friendly welcome. Food decent. Big portions. Good selection of beers. Dog friendly. Although it appears in the list of Emsworth restaurants be aware that it is quite a way from the town centre. Walking, about 30 minutes along the main road. It is more pleasant to take the footpaths that run slightly south of the main road.

We had an amazing Sundry lunch & excellent service & very friendly welcoming atmosphere.

The food was good, although the beef on the beef roast was a bit chewy, and this was conveyed to the staff at the time. Other than that, there were no problems, and the staff were very nice, and the atmosphere was good

Here for lunch, pleasant service and great tasting food for a fair price. Usually easy parking in either of the car parks next to the Travellers Joy. Interesting menu and quality food. I also liked not being charged a discretionary service charge which you have the option to opt out of like in so may places these days. Instead, a tip which was well earned I added to the bill. Thank you.

We were staying in the campsite next door so just a short walk away. The food, drinks & service were excellent. There were 5 of us plus a dog & the food was brought out promptly. The portions are very large so if like me you like to have a pudding I wouldn't have a starter unless you have an enormous appetite. (the ginger sponge & custard was so good.) Our dog was made very welcome in the bar area, with dog treats & a bowl of water. We certainly recommend this pub for the food & the prices are very reasonable.

Visited for mid-week lunch with a friend who is gluten and lactose intolerant. Good traditional pub food on the menu. Staff friendly and super helpful with options for my friend. Food quality and flavour was very good.

Great staff & very welcoming. The food was okay. Roasts were nice, but the pie was a bit dry & burger a little over-cooked but my daughter's boyfriend was hungry, so still ate it.

There was a warm welcome and attentive service. This pub appears to have regular customers. My partner had fish and chips and I had the fish pie. The fish pie didn't look much like any fish pie I've had in the past - there was a heavy layer of cheese across the top - but it was tasty and the spinach still had texture which I like (i.e. just wilted not soggy). My partner's fish and chips was not so good. It looked fabulous but the reality was very thin fish - so that was overcooked - and overly thick batter which was undercooked. Chips needed a lot more cooking. And a lack of seasoning for both dishes. So come here for a pint and a chat with friendly staff (although at least one of them had been drafted in from another pub) but perhaps go home for lunch. I note though that the 'restaurant' side of the pub (exact same food) was very busy so perhaps they all knew to avoid the fish and chips.

We thought we should visit this lovely pub next to where we were camping. I read someone gave a poor rating on a meat pie. So thought I’d give it a try, and was not disappointed. It was delicious, and would recommend. Our other meals were really good too. And the staff were very friendly.

Very disappointed that we were told the kitchen was shut, even though we arrived at 8.45

Sadly no where near as good as expected or rated . The pie contained little meat and lacked flavour , vegetables tasted off and mash was awful obviously made with the cheapest margarine going . Had to leave food as couldn’t eat it . Hubby said his fish and chips was ok so maybe go for that . We will not return tables sticky and peas all over the restaurant floor not great experience.

We were staying nearby and after checking the reviews we chose the Traveller's Joy. We had a friendly welcome and we're shown to a table, the server brought us menus and took a drink order, we ordered some food. I chose the sausage and mash and my wife decided to have fish and chips. So far so good, but then we had a long wait for the food, so long we thought about giving up and trying somewhere else. The food did arrive and I had no issues with the sausage and mash, good standard pub food, the fish and chips was almost ok, fish was cooked well but the batter was more soggy than crispy. The bill was a good price and had the food arrived in good time I would have been happy. As it was I paid the bill but didn't tip, something I almost always do.

It has been a very long time since I have been in to this pub, i can imagine 8 years. And I am happy to say this is really a great pub to visit the staff were friendly, we only popped into this pub for a small basket meal and a couple of pints. When the food came of we couldn't believe the size of the portions. I am happy to say that I will be re visiting this pub in the future.

A group of 6 friends, we ate at the Travellers Joy based on previous reviews. We were not disappointed. The choice of beer was good, the food excellent. I had liver and bacon which was delicious and perfectly cooked, the fishermans pie both looked and tasted fabulous. Based on our visit I would strongly recommend this lovely pub

Just had lunch here and it was wonderful. Two lovely friendly ladies behind the bar, a really nice welcome and a waitress who really knew the menu and could talk us through it fluently. Food was perfect, proper 'home cooked'. Very impressed as it was great value too.

Travellers Joy although a Fullers Pub gives you the impression it's a privately owned country pub. The staff are really friendly and the food is out of this world and not exstautionately priced. Thanks to all staff who served us tonight. Neil, Karen Lisa and Melanie

We ate here twice while staying at the camping site literally next door. It might have been really cold outside but there was a warm welcome and a delicious meal both times. They even allowed our two collie dogs and they have a special dog biscuit jar on the bar.

Enjoyed a fabulous Sunday Lunch for my husband's birthday yesterday. There were four of us and we all had the Sunday lunch which was excellent and good value for money. My Dad who is 92 had a small Sunday lunch which was still a very generous size. My husband and son had the blue mushrooms with garlic for starter which they thoroughly enjoyed. Great service by our young waitress. Will definitely return to this lovely pub.

Impromptu visit to this pub that even though we live relatively near have never eaten here before and now wish we had. Lovely welcome and service throughout attentive and friendly. Menu mainly traditional but specials offered such as tuna nice addition. French onion soup starter delicious and mains just as enjoyable. We will certainly be returning.

Food was excellent. My fish pie the best i have had in a pub for years. The prawns were cooked just perfectly. The liver and bacon looked good and the chicken and leek pie also. All served very hot. Could not fault it for the food or service. A small log fire would have added enormously to the atmosphere. Excellent. Will not hesitate to recommend and return. Well done guys.

I am so glad that I booked this pub when looking for somewhere near Emsworth for Sunday lunch today. There were 5 humans, a dog and a puppy and we could not have been made to feel more welcome. Our Sunday roasts were delivered in good time, and we all agreed that our food was delicious and good value for money. I am a very fussy veggie and I can honestly say that my homemade nut roast was the best I have had for ages; the roasties, veg and Yorkshire pudding, and stuffing were equally gorgeous! We followed up with tasty desserts and hot beverages. All the way through all the staff were cheerful and helpful; the fact that our dog and puppy were made to feel as welcome as we felt, was a very welcome bonus! What an absolute find - a wonderful time was had by us all. Looking forward to going back again already!

Went to the pub today for lunch with family and friends and two dogs. We were made to feel very welcome and the roast meals were really delicious- hot and tasty! They were really accepting of the dogs- we were in the bar area.

Great welcome from excellent staff. We live quite close to the pub and it could not be a better local The beer and food are both outstanding. You can tell that the pub is really well looked after and Nicky the landlord is rightly proud...

Friendly and good range of beers. We have been coming here for a while now for dinner and we really love it. The food is really good and the young staff are always so friendly and helpful. Having such lovely staff makes any visit a pleasure and they are a real asset to the pub. Definitely recommended.

Stayed nearby and visited here a couple of times. As a newbie Vegan I was very happy with a great Runday roast, and the service was great. Good choice of Ales.

Can be good, but before ordering steak be aware that they tend to undercook. I ordered a medium rare filet which first came out well done and then very rare. I was met with resistance when trying to send the second steak back so I asked them to probe it - it was under 40 deg C. Still they insisted this was a perfect medium rare for the ‘french way’ they cook it and demanded that I pay half for it after choosing to order something else. We had a discussion, and I didn’t, but it has made me think twice about going back.

Very handy to caravan site. Friendly staff although on one visit they were too busy talking to each other which made me feel in the way.

Lovely pub with great food and staff. We semi-regularly drop by whilst travelling (appropriately!) from Sussex to the South West and back and every time it's been a pleasure. There's a nice outside seating area, with a covered bit and a pretty secluded courtyard round the back. Beer is good, and the food is really good. Decent portions and very tasty. Recommend the local pies! Even our dog got a couple of treats last time. Staff very friendly and helpful, service very quick.

Came here with family for a roast, staff were friendly quick efficient service :) Unfortunately the roast dinners were very poor quality, potatoes and veg were flavourless and tasted like frozen ones, the meat was well cooked however it was all a very small portion...

First visit and we chose fish pie and a pint of Gales HSB. Definitely the finest home made pie you could wish for and a generous portion. Friendly staff and good service, nothing not to like. We will come back again just for that pie!

Had sunday roast..was it made on friday and left in sun till sunday,potatoes were brick hard and veg over cooked,stuffing was burnt as was the yorkshire pudding even the gravy was too lumpy to soften the yorkshire pudding.even the entertainment from the staff did not cheer up my day if your boyfriend is too needy and needs a hug from his mum then leave that at home do not bring it to work...come back Jeremy Kyle???

Myself and the missus had a few beers outside here on a sunny evening, clearly if you're sitting outside you're near a busy road however there are tables around the side just away from the side of the road. We went in the restaurant for some food, both meals were excellent and pitched at about the right price. Would I go again?.…. Yep deffo it was spot on!

Very expensive for what food we had, £15 for fish and chips, fish was more batter than actual fish, other members of our party were not impressed with their meals either. £87 for 5 meals and 5 drinks, would understand had we had starters or desserts....

We visited with 8 friends one of whom has MS and our welcome was brilliant. The staff were friendly and accommodating, meals were excellent and we will return when next visiting the area.

We met friends here and had a very good meal. The bar is a dog friendly one and all of the staff were delightful. I would definitely recommend this place.

Nice welcome, homely décor, great service. A generous and tasty starter of boar pate, beautifully cooked and presented fish of the day and a nice ginger sponge with ice cream. Friendly efficient service and great food.
