The Trading Rooms in Calderdale

We have been here many times and always good, however we visited this afternoon for drinks and decided to sit outside in the sunshine. On going to the bar we were told someone would come outside and take our order. After 10 minutes nobody came so we left. There were only 3 other people sat outside and 1 small group inside. Very disappointed.

Excellent service staff and food what more could you want 👍

Went for sandwiches today, 3 of us, was OK but really not worth what they charge, the pastrami in sour dough was very dry had to put mayonnaise on the sour dough bread to make it better, the flat iron steak was a bit of cubed steak again on dry sour dough bread and the fish coujons were the better of the 3 but came with a large blonde hair in it, they took this off the bill but the waitress was quite sharp and rude. Will go back to "La Luna" from now on , better menu, better atmosphere and better price for your food.

Great quality and sensibly priced meal. Profits go back to the piece hall apparently so a real win win.

The second time visited in a couple of months. It's a very small menu but not perfected for some reason. The restaurant was cold and toilets was missing the basics so it was not a good start. As previously, the majority of food was overcooked and dry, some cood to unfortunately. Bit of a shame as I think it could be so good with the right management 🤞

Very pleasant atmosphere, excellent food, not too expensive.

Popped in for a cake and a drink after a morning of shopping. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Kids scoffed the cakes so fast I didn’t get chance to take a pic. Lovely though and no problems.

Avoid if you can! Food is horrid and we ordered a bottle of wine which had clearly gone off and we complained, only to be told that’s how it tastes and there was nothing they could do. So I paid and left, full bottle on the table. Probably ended up in the bin. Absolutely abysmal.

Sunday lunch was awful.roast potatoes awful food cold

Atmosphere lovely but same cannot be said for food. Food overcooked and they didn't have the dishes that we PREORDERED. Staff slow and incompetent. 3 of the drinks we asked for were unavailable.

Niamh and Lara were fast efficient, great personal skills that are inherent, you can’t teach this. Food excellent

Poor value for money along with price and portion size . Food quality excellent. Atmosphere good. Friendly attentive service. Festive menu was menu choice.

We weren’t asked once what we thought of the food. If we were asked we would have said that the salmon fish cakes were dry and lacked salmon, more like potato cakes. The beef was also dry and overcooked, the side of potatoes were very salty. Crème brûlée was ok. Best thing about the night was the DJ.

I’m sorry our meal was rubbish. An hour before food arrived. Risotto was tasteless, flat iron steak overcooked. Oh and a lovely dark hair in the pork belly. Staff tried their best to sort out and were very apologetic. BUT I would not go again!

Shame that today I visited with a friend and the menu was poor overcooked chicken burger minus salad and then the wrong meal given to my friend Nothing healthy to eat it was like a posh Mac Donald’s! Been here a lot over the past 2 years sadly I need healthy choices so will be giving the posh Mac Donald’s a miss

Whatever you do don’t ask for plain pasta for your kids. They’ll bring it out with olive oil and pepper on.

Had Sunday lunch here with my sister today, and it was so delicious! I had made a booking and mentioned we would have a pram and the table we were given had plenty of space and we had obviously been well accommodated. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. We both had the beef. There was a good sized portion of beef but not overwhelmingly so. The truffle mash was delicious, and all the other elements were cooked to perfection. Even the horseradish sauce seemed freshly made. Will definitely be back!

Very strange menu. Why isn’t there some simple items for people to enjoy. Almost every item has some sort of strange ingredient which doesn’t belong. It pays to keep things simple and tasty. Sandwich section is bizarre, where’s the BLT.?!? Why is everything served on vegan bread?!? Onion rings were cooked in some strange batter and were as plain as wall paper. Chips were terrible, KFC does it better. Burger was tasty but the bun wasn’t pure brioche bun, some strange seeds on it. WHY?!? Staff were friendly and good level of service. Restaurant was super clean, as were the facilities. Outdoor seating (dogs allowed outside only) heating available outside.

The food when it eventually came was really lovely. It was a busy Saturday lunch time I ordered one of the specials which was sold out so I choose something else and we waited 45 minutes before we asked where it was. People after us got food before us so I think it was lost in the system. They were very apologetic, offered free desserts but we took cake away instead and something was knocked off the bill. They did everything to try and put things right so I would go back. Nice menu, prices OK. Quality, tasty food

Started off great. We arrived at 7pm, the starters and first bottle of wine arrived within 30 mins, but then we waited over an hour for the next bottle and main course. We had to ask twice for the wine, then 2 main courses were cold and 1 was overcooked and dried out. No apologies, they just said they were busy when we expressed our concerns. The final straw was that they added an extra bottle of wine to the bill.. they were shockingly unconcerned about their substandard service.

Super disappointed as first visit and was really looking forward to it. The place was clean and looked nice. Bramble cocktail delicious. One toilet per sex (not great for size of place and having to queue in a small corridor with men and women not ideal). The menu had changed since we booked and I had my taste buds set on the prawn and scallop linguine, however it wasn't on the new menu so as there wasnt anything else i fancied I asked for the scallop and ham hock starter as a main and ordered onion rings and fries as sides. I received a few tiny scallops and a piece of (? Breadcrumb coated?) Ham hock that was so hard I couldn't cut with my knife and fork in fear it would fly off my plate, knock some other poor diner out and bring attention to my table yet again - after having a medium glass of rose spilt all over me by the (sincerely apologetic) waitress - so attempted to chomp down on it using my fingers. Classy. Anyway chunky chips nice. Onion rings tasteless. One friend ordered what she thought was a type of posh cheeseburger, but it didn't have any meat in it. She said it was nice it was just odd as she expected some meat in there too. Another friend ordered chicken burger and said it was worth the quite long wait. The other two in party ordered chicken supreme and as theyd never been before either asked what the portion sizes were like and if theyd need to order starters but werent really that hungry. Anyway the waitress went to ask the chef and he said usually they came with about 3 potato's but he'd put 8 on their plate lol however it came with about 3 potatoes. The chicken supreme diner's said although portion very small it was lovely. I won't slate the spillage of the drink too much as it wasn't a glass of red all over the cream trousers I was wearing and we got our first drinks knocked off the bill so I think that was an adequate apology and everyone else on the table was quite happy I had wine thrown all over me to get a free drink! Ha.

Unbelievably quiet, overpriced and just an absolute shame to have experienced a meal with friends here. The service was abysmal, to say the venue was quiet would be an understatement. They had more staff than customers yet they couldn't be in the slightest way attentive. (I don't know if there was management there, if there was they really didn't make it clear as we wanted to complain but was told by our server that they were "on break") It's a real shame this place is being run this way but after a while i imagine it's easy to adhere to such ways. an embarrassment to halifax really.

Stunning Sunday lunch, four of us shared the roast dinner platter for just £50!! More than enough food (we took home a doggy bag) with seven different veg sides to go with the beef/pork, yorkshires, roasted spuds and chipolatas. Lovely food, service a tad slow but it was v busy and didn't bother us in the slightest. Highly recommended

Sophie was great her customer service was great the steak was cooked perfect the wedges and onion rings were raw still inside such a downer on a meal costing £33.75

One of the best Sunday lunches I've had. Period. Great venue. Lovely staff. Coffee and cocktails were amazing. Family friendly too. Recommended.

We came here to celebrate my partner’s birthday. I will give 5* for the lady who served us. She was very attentive, cheering and warm. I did mention this was a birthday celebration when I booked the table. The lady came to my table and double check who’s birthday it was, and surprised us with such a lovely chocolate cake. Thank you for making this meal special.

Superb lunch with the family. Most of us had the garlic chicken burger ... AMAZING ...best chicken burger ever. Everyone had a great meal and the service and atmosphere was excellent.

Went on steak night, food was excellent, service great and good value for money. Highly recommended.

Bustling, spacious, high quality. (I was part of a party of 30. I ate butternut squash and coconut soup; salmon new potatoes and beans and sticky toffee pudding ( not too heavy, relatively light). Coffee was also good. )

Haven't been there but read about them and see how great they are so I felt so pleased about them Nice and cool environment very clean.

Though The Trading Rooms looks clean and classy, I can’t get over the lengthy wait time for my food and the mediocre sandwiches I received. Given the price, I was expecting a lot more - not to mention, everything was lukewarm.

Stopped at the Trading Rooms for lunch today, had Roast beef which was absolutely superb. Best roast I've had in a very long time. We also had a chicken burger, and king prawn, scallops and chorizo linguine. All very tasty with efficient and excellent service. My roast potatoes were forgotten briefly but quickly rectified with an apology and a smile when mentioned. We also dined with 2 people with severe nut allergies and the staff went out of their way to ensure we received nothing but the best service and food. Would highly recommend and will be visiting again for that divine roast dinner

Sat outside in one of the pods as it was a nice day. Staff are efficient and friendly. Menu is limited especially for vegetarians/,vegans but the food we had was good. Soft drinks are on the expensive side, £2.75 for dilute squash is excessive.

Spend nearly 3 hours watching the world go by on a lazy Sunday afternoon sat outside in the sunshine. Nice setting in The Piece Hall and great service too. They also had some quirky round roofed booths which seemed popular. The food I saw coming out for other people looked appealing.

Food was tasty but not perfect. Could not find any scallops in the Prawn, Scallop and Chorizo Linguini. Others in party disappointed with their food too. Service was good; very friendly staff. Rather overpriced bearing in mind quality.

This is a great place to dine. After our order was taken we were asked if we had any allergies which my husband has (dairy) so the pasta dish he fancied had a cream sauce which they changed to oil & 🌿 it was delicious 😋. The staff were all pleasant and friendly infact can't fault this place & will be returng ASAP also the piece hall with its lovely little shops delightful

Went for a Mother's Day meal, staff were friendly and food was really tasty. Little expensive for what it was. Only 1 vegetarian/vegan option for main courses on the mother's day menu which I thought was a little tight... and no vegetarian option for the sunday roast as potatoes were in duck fat. Lady singing was really lovely and very talented, but was a little too loud and we couldn't hear each other very well.

Visited Trading Rooms on Mothers Day 2023. Having had a poor experience 12 months prior I thought the issues encountered might have changed however it’s even poorer now. Firstly the choice was poor, the staff were not very professional, me and my children were questioned when we went to the toilet and told they were for patrons only, it took two attempts of explaining we were eating before being ALLOWED to use the facilities, there were no tables inside even tho for the hour and half we were there we could see half a dozen tables empty, it took just under an hour for our food (1x pizza and 2 x bangers and mash) to be served and finally when I asked to speak to the manager to complain I was told they were too busy (probably happens that often their ears are ringing) thus why I’m posting the experience here. I won’t go back again and I would not recommend The Trading Rooms, find somewhere else to eat and drink instead.

Food was lovely but lost a star due to waiting along time for the puddings.

Nice drinks and decor but the food was a disappointment. Had the ribs and they were tough and bland. It felt like they were cooked with no seasoning and then someone squirted BBQ sauce on at the end. Friends had chicken sandwich was similarly bland.

The Trading Rooms has the best steak I have ever had. Professional and exquisite service. Totally lovely experience.

It’s a nice restaurant. Staff are excellent and food is good as well. I got chicken burger which was alright.. not really great for the price but the fries were nice. Some onion rings they served were nice as well. My friend got some roast dinner and she was happy with it.

What an amazing restaurant you are greeted with a warm Yorkshire welcome. Staff are well trained. Menu is outstanding, as is the food. We were served by an absolutely fabulous young lady whose attention to detail was outstanding. On speaking with her manager, we pointed out this to her. She was only sixteen years old with a very bright future ahead of her. We look forward to returning. I totally recommend a visit you will not be disappointed. Continued success with all that you do.

10z sirloin steak was very good quality, ample portions. It was a busy lunchtime service was really good, staff are very kind, patient and experienced. Seating comfortable and interior decor nicely done. A lovely place to visit as a couple or in a group, plenty of variation with meals and drinks, good prices considering within piece hall, overall lovely and would visit again, recommended. (Should try increase number of wc's as only 1 of each I think? There was a bit of a queue for both ladies and gents) .

Excellent service and very good food at a fair price. Nothing seems too much trouble for the staff very attentive, would highly recommend .. Perfect Sunday roast.

First time visiting and was very impressed. I'd have given them 5 stars, but the toilets are lacking in numbers.

Something is missing, nothing is particularly wrong, but just not great. Food is average.

Style over substance. What a shame. Lovely ambience and menu looks promising just didn't deliver on flavour. I sent my soup back - how can you get that wrong?. Over priced for the produce. But enjoyed listening to the guys in the kitchen discuss the customers and food....not very flattering, but funny banter. Try harder!

Staff all kids and need a bit of experience to rally the troops. Food was ok for a works do, but the free bar helped out with that, but the draft ale was poor.

Great food, but serving staff over stretched, the lady who dealt with us was very good, but she was covering so many tables it was hard to get her attention, we then got handed a bill with £30+ of drinks on that we hadn't ordered. shame because little things like that let it down

We came for cocktails...they were awful and at nearly £30 for 3 they shouldnt have been. We questioned the bar manager as we honestly believed there was no alcohol in them and the taste was dreadful. The answer was thats how they are made so get on with it..might just as well have said 'who cares!'..The young waitress Imogen was however lovely. We were a group of middle aged women not kids to be fobbed off with the attitude of the management. Save your money and go elsewhere for a decent drink without the poor customer service and the couldnt care less attitude.

I had catch of the day, the portion of fish was very small the squash mushy and aubergine or courgette? hard left hungry. Very limited menue for non meat eaters. The wine at £9 a glass very expensive. The staff are brilliant.

Amazing food and cocktails a great place to experience the local cuisine

We went to The Trading Rooms for Sunday lunch today. The sharing platter was delicious and filling. We shared a delicious lemon tart for dessert, which was served with a mango coulis and raspberry sorbet. Special mention goes to our waitress Alex. She is only young, but Alex has a real aptitude for hospitality work. She was very pleasant and attentive, and behaved so professionally. A real credit to the restaurant.

Lovely interior comfy seating great service. We had tempura prawn salad (peas in the pod included) and catch of the day salad followed by cake and coffee to finish. Coffee is the best in Halifax, I’d like to try the evening menu but when I asked to look it was the same as the daytime one more or less that’s a bit disappointing.

It's just OK. I know restaurants can't be great all the time but I feel this place really should be better. Well over an hours wait for any food, no apologies, no offer of breadsticks or anything to keep us going. Some had cold food when it did finally arrive. Kids menu is just random, expensive and not really anything a child would want when eating out. Oh, and the toilet was frankly disgusting.

The recently changed menu is very limited, but that can mean better food, shame it didn't. The food was cold, over cooked and took nearly an hour from arriving for starters to arrive. The restaurant wasn't full and had plenty of staff, but seemed young and inexperienced, they did their best and reacted fast to our 1st complaints, by the time the mains arrived we just wanted to eat and leave.

Went with a party of 7 last night and not over impressed with the food, but the worst thing was the music!. It was blasting out so loud, not onlyl did we find it very hard to have a conversation but also difficult to make the waitress hear when we ordered. So very uncomfortable..really spoiled our evening. Surely the music does not need to be so overpowering. People like to talk when out with friends and background music is lovely but not when when you have to constantly shout to be heard.

Really decent food in price, variety and quality, with a good few vegetarian and vegan options as well as top-class meat, including specials. Lovely ambience within The Piece Hall and plenty of friendly, attentive staff. Great for a spot of lunch with other adults, or if you have kids more able to be calm than mine!

Wow, amazing place. Stopped here for an early evening meal whilst exploring the town. Delicious food, really friendly and helpful staff, lovely atmosphere and prices were good too. Would definately seek this restaurant out again if we were in the local area again.

Chose wisely for a Sunday roast. All 4 of us had the beef. About £15 each. Everything on the plate was well cooked with a good and tastey veg selection and a super Yorkshire pud. The onion gravy was lush. Washed it down with a fizzy pint of Estrella lager. It was very busy but service was friendly and efficient. Only complaint being two unisex toilets; insufficient for a place this size plus our wives dislike sharing with men. I do not blame them. Restaurant to be found in the far right side corner of The Piece Hall.

Visited today when the Spring Market was on having visited previously. We did not mind waiting initially as it appeared busy. The food was of good quality however it was slightly marred by the fact that we requested salt, pepper and sauce and these never arrived, although the drinks ordered at the same time did. It may seem a small thing, and it is, but it's the little things that count and perhaps condiments could be more readily available

Piece Hall will have my My Family Favourites have been visiting for the last 45 years and was super surprised to see the massive improvement and Investment spent. My dining out experience was wonderful great food and great to see what was more production then just seen the chefs at work hope to be back soon x

Looked promising, initial impressions good but then they "forgot" our food order! When it did arrive - sandwiches made with pre grated cheap cheddar, basic bread and margarine, veggie burger was straight from a frozen packet served on dry bun, salad was awful as pre dressed and so totally wilted and inedible, hand- cut chips were huge,partly raw wedges, not chips at all. Serving staff disinterested, didn't check all was OK or if we needed drinks etc. No sign of a Manager, poor young staff left to flounder. Yes, it was busy but no excuse for cheap, mediocre food and poor service.

Lovely restaurant in the heart of Halifax' cultural quarter inside the Piece Hall. Excellent food selection, cosy atmosphere and very welcoming staff. Service was fast, and it was great to see a very young front of house team learning the ropes - even if they weren't always sure how to serve the wine! Definitely recommended.

Visited on Monday and all seemed good at first.Drinks were nice but still no food after 30 minutes.Asked about the food and apology was that they were very busy.Offered a drink but we just wanted our lunch.The table next to us also left.Please don't take orders if your kitchen cannot cope.
