Return visit by friend & I and just as welcoming as we remembered. A proper Landlord who greets you when you enter. The pub has a very cosy friendly atmosphere. We both ordered the Mulled Wine (with a mini mince pie - nice touch!) and it didn't disappoint. It came in a large Christmassy mug on a saucer; was nice & hot; & had a cinnamon stick + citrus fruit in it. Would definitely recommend & will return when next in Halifax. Hopefully in warmer weather & sit in their pleasant beer garden.

We visited Halifax after a while away and found this pub after looking visiting the Piece Hall( (which was brilliant) and realising there was no hand pulled beer. The decor is eccentric boudoir, the bar crew fast, efficient and with a good Yorkshire friendly welcome. There was a choice of 3 hand pulled beers and out Blonde pulled perfectly. The prices are about it standard definitely cheaper than Leeds or Manchester. We returned after a great dinner and the pub busy but not overcrowded. Friendly and no trouble. All 6 of us were seated easily and speedily served. It was a happy and welcoming atmosphere. Very much looking forward to coming back.

A lovely little pub however we won’t be returning as the drink prices are extortionate. Every little business needs to make a profit but 8.00 for a single gin and tonic is ridiculous. 16.00 for a pint of lager and a single gin and tonic. Disgraceful, especially in these current times. In all honesty after the football crew left the place lacked atmosphere. Prices need to be reviewed to get more people over the door.

We called in for a drink. The pub has a Victoriana feel to it, in the decor and furnishings. There is a large outdoor seating area and the interior is a series of small rooms. Little regard to the wearing of masks and praise for the fact that they will not be necessary soon; as if Covid has miraculously gone away. Pleasant place with pleasant people and a good range of drinks but needed to take out a mortgage, to pay for them. Talk about making up for lost time.

What a disgusting homophobic place.I first sat down with my dad and was listening to this couple sat opposite me speaking about a woman at the bar saying “he she IT”. I kept my mouth shut until they said something disgusting. I challenged this and said politely that it was homophobic what they was saying. I let everything go when they kept mentioning things loudly trying to get me to argue. It was when I went to the toilet and the husband of the woman told my gay dad that he was going to beat him up because he was telling the woman to shut up. This was also when the man behind the bar told ME to calm down (baring in mind this argument was done a half hour ago). I told him it was done and she was being homophobic and he said “no she’s a regular”. I challenged him asking does that mean she gets away with being homophobic and he basically said yes. THIS IS WHEN I DECIDED TO BOYCOTT THIS PUB. So burn in hell you HOMOPHOBIC awful people.

A highly recommended pub to visit. We attended on a Friday evening and although it was quiet at 8pm a couple of hours later the bar was buzzing. The decorations are very pleasant and the furnishings are comfortable. The clientele was mainly 30 to 50+ many being females on a night out. The atmosphere was excellent and felt very comfortable and safe. Highly commended for everyone.

Was out Saturday 21 Dec with friends. Finished my drink and reached over to table behind me and said do you mind if I put this empty one here? The man was very rude and a bit threatening he said no it's my table put it on the bar!!. I said I thought we were all friends in here to such he said no and dropped the glass on floor. So I put it on bar and said to him are you happy now. Because I couldn't believe how childish he was. At that point a member of staff came over to usher me away and told me to leave it!!. When I explained he said "I know he's a cock!!! So why not get him out instead of telling me to move. I wasn't wanting any bother just a good time and think this should have been handled better. I won't be back.

When I visited Halifax last year, this pub struck me as outstandingly friendly and sociable. So, back in town for 3 days recently, I made it my drinking spot. Again it was friendly, and in just 3 sessions it felt like my local. Andy, the owner, and his partners, twins Horizon and Sunshine, know how to ensure a good vibe in a pub. The brothers do most of the bar work and chat in a warm and kindly way with the customers that seems genuine and not perfunctory. The locals themselves are easygoing and friendly as well, so I always had people to chat with--gratifying when you're a stranger. I didn't find the same in other pubs in Halifax. The pub is rather dark but has a decor style somewhat of its own--with lots of hangings, and a velvety red theme. The bar is long enough that drinkers can lean on it without getting in the way. There's a full selection of beers and lagers on offer; you don't hang about waiting for your next to be poured, as the guys behind the bar are fully tuned in. The pub is superbly positioned close to the station, the Piece Hall, and the town centre. A smoking/outdoor area out the back looks across to the Piece Hall. The Railway Hotel is unique--slightly eccentric and quirky, but so am I, and for me it's now a home from home: I'll be propping up its bar again next time I'm in town. Much love to the RH!

I visited the railway last night with friends I asked for a Gordon’s gin and tonic which I asked to be served in gin glass I was refused and told I had to order a more expensive gin to have it served in a gin glass, I was very confused as to why this was I can only think it is a way for them to make people spend more money, I will not return to this pub again as I found this to be very poor customer service and just plain rude

If you thought that the good old fashioned British pub was a thing of the past, you simply MUST visit this establishment. Total interior and exterior refurbishment makes this outstanding hostelry one of the finest in Yorkshire. At the time of writing my revue, the whole area surrounding The Railway Hotel is undergoing a £22 million regeneration project. Situated 150 metres from Halifax Railway station and bang next to the famous Piece Hall, The Railway Hotel will give you the warmest of welcomes. If you plan to stay in Halifax for a night, weekend or longer, look no further as there are several rooms in this hostelry that are very comfortable all with en suite facilities. It is privately owned which makes the difference. A selection of Real Ales are always on offer, as are a great selection of cocktails and Gins (Hendricks with cucumber is my favourite). The owners and staff cannot do enough for you when you stay here and I must have stayed here about 12 times in the last 18 months. Apart from being tastefully furnished inside, the outside boasts a superb recently decked area for those sunny afternoons and evenings.Give this place a try soon, you won't be disappointed!

What has it got, great atmosphere, great choice of drinks (lovely wine glasses), great staff, beautifully decorated, fab music on a Saturday night 60's, 70's and Motown, excellent provided by the very lovely Horizon. We booked a room which was very beautiful with lovely furniture and very tastefully decorated to a very high standard, the bed was very comfy with luxurious bedding. In the morning we had a super breakfast there was a choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurts and also a well presented cooked breakfast with toast with home made marmalade and scrumtious raspberry jam all made on the premises. Thank you to the lovely Andrew and Horizon for making our stay so enjoyable. See you all soon.

For me there are 3 important things to a good B and B. Number 1 and 2 being most important with number 3 being a bonus. 1 BED the bed at the Railway Hotel was hard and lumpy. Not comfy. Not a good sleep. 2 SHOWER the shower was a trickle of cold water. And I mean cold. I couldn't use it and ended up doing my hair in the sink. Yes I pulled the cord to turn it on but no hot water at all. 3 BREAKFAST was great if you like a fry up. Which I do. No cereal or fruit or yogurt but a bloody good fry up and toast. No decaf coffee but I brought my own. Would I stay again? NO

Fabulous place. Went there last night for dinner and it couldn’t have been better. The pie was fabulous - and served with a delicious gravy and plenty of chips (no measly half portions here!). The wine was lovely and very reasonably priced. And the people working there were knowledgeable, polite and all-round smashing. We will be going back very soon.

This place looks lovely but that's as good as it gets. We booked and arrived on time. The waitress took us to a table but didn't say anything. The table wasn't clean, no drinks menu. We waited for over 15 minutes before we had to be asked to be served. The waitress was horrendous she didn't look interested and got our drinks order wrong. The main meal was good but we hadn't even finished our food before she tried to take it away. It then took us another 30 minutes to get the bill and another 20 minutes to pay. Overall: not great, the staff need training in actually serving people... Another good course would be... How to greet people.

I came here for a pint with my partner on a Saturday at 4pm. We were able to find a table and I got served at the bar quite quickly. Prices are good compared to some other places nearby. Nice vintage pub decor and a good selection on beers and spirits. Some cocktails are available on a 2 for £12 deal. And there is free WiFi available.
