Dropped by on recommendation after a long walk with the dogs at nearby Hembury Woods Beautiful location, overlooking the stunning Devon countryside, with a good size car park Really good lunch and main menu offering a good selection of homemade dishes Would definitely recommend the fish pie, stuffed full with cod, salmon and prawns in a delicious creamy sauce, with a cheesy mash top, one of the best I’ve ever tasted The ham, eggs and chips were knockout also, the ham being cooked to perfection on the premises, and served with proper chips, a couple of perfectly cooked eggs and garden peas, all decent sized portions Have found ourselves a new favourite for lunch, looking forward to our next visit already

We called in after a walk for a drink but then decided to have some food but we were told that the kitchen was closing soon but the lady behind the bar was very helpful and told us not to worry about rushing to decide what we want We ordered a cheese plowman's and a sandwich and sat back in the garden to enjoy the lovely views Our food arrived and wow the plowman's was the biggest I've ever seen The sandwich I had was lovely but secretly I want the plowman's maybe next time As for the prices for the size of the plates of food we received and the friendly staff I feel the whole lunch was excellent value for money I would highly recommend the trademans arms for great beer and food Enjoy 😁

Wanted a quick night away and the Tradesman arms was a great choice. Reasonably priced bed and breakfast. Room not huge but had everything you need and was clean. Good view from the window, am sure will be spectacular on a sunny day. Ate there in the evening too. A lovely welcome from Kev and Suzie. Food and drinks all reasonable price, food good pub grub and delicious. Pub was quiet but a good atmosphere was generated with a few locals at the bar. A good location to explore Dartmoor from.

Beautiful view, very helpful staff and a good lunch. If in a large car take care swinging into the car park - but if you've got this far, should be no problem! Scoriton or Scorriton? Locals disagree, and so do the signs at either end of the hamlet... Latter is usual online. Well worth a visit if exploring moor or Buckfastleigh area.

After a long day of walking we were very happy to arrive at the Tradesman's Arms. We were greeted warmly by Kevin who was very chatty and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable and had a lovely view out over the fields. Some of the food at dinner was disappointing as it seemed to have been over-microwaved which had caused it to become rather leathery. Our main problem though was in the morning when we were served an adequate breakfast by a rather unfriendly, grumpy, monosyllabic woman. After we'd eaten I asked her where in the totally empty carpark would be best to leave our car overnight as we were continuing our walk along the Two Moors Way. She made it very plain that this was an unreasonable request and said she'd rather we didn't leave it. So we didn't. Instead we found a charming lady who kindly moved her car along so we could park outside her house in the village. It was a shame as it did leave us feeling unnecessarily annoyed and upset. I'm not sure she is a natural fit for being in the hospitality business!

We stayed at the Tradesman's this weekend by accident. Our original booking for a 2 night stay was for another inn up the road (The Church House Inn, wrongly advertised as being in Postbridge) but when we arrived there, we found it had been shut for 2 years! It was still advertising on sites like booking.com and we had paid for our room over a month ago so you can imagine how we felt when we we arrived there in the early evening and found the place totally deserted. Luckily for us, someone guided us to the Tradesman's Arms and we took the last room available there that day. What a lucky break! I can't thank Kev and Suzzy at the Tradesman's enough for their kindness and support in all this. They were the best of hosts and run a fabulous friendly place. Our room was clean, comfortable and airy. The food was delicious and came in very generous portions. The setting is lovely-you can look over the Devon countryside from the dining room-and it is quiet. Very little traffic and the soothing sound of the cows in the surrounding fields. Good place for walkers (there were several there at the same time) and easy access to to Dartmoor and local sites like Buckfast Abbey. Excellent value for money as well. It now has a permanent place on my list of places to stay and I will certainly return. Big thanks to Kev and Suzzy for making our weekend a real pleasure rather than the disaster it might have been.

Stayed in the area for three days and were anticipating dining at this pub on all three evenings because of the favourable reviews. However after our first evening and encountering a very disappointing meal we decided to make alternative arrangements. The 'home made' steak and ale pie was pretty tasteless and the steak in the pie was tough and chewy not I'm afraid a good eating experience. This was served with the usual pile of frozen chips and boiled vegetables. My experience didn't replicate some of the good experiences that have been written about by previous reviewers. Regrettably we did not make a return visit to this place but the pub is fine to call into for a drink after a walk on the moor.

Well, like every week Teresa and I are out and about visiting restaurants all over the country on our travels. This time it was the turn of the Tradesman Arms in Scoriton. What a disappointment this was. After reading the reviews I assumed it would be special, it wasn't. We both had a Rump Steak and it was very poor and the frozen chips didn't impress, and the onion rings were also out the freezer. What a strange place as behind the bar there is a video playing of the local dogs whom frequent the place and frankly, there was as many dogs as people. Now that's fine but having a dog at your table looking for scraps is not my idea of an evening out. They even have treats on the bar for the dogs. Don't get me wrong, I love animals but in a restaurant area of a pub, ghastly. Cheap it was, cheerful it wasn't.

My daughter and I arrived tired and hungry at the Tradesman's Arms, as darkness fell, after getting lost on Dartmoor while doing the Two Moors Way hike. We checked in with the inn keeper, Kevin, a very friendly gentleman. The inn was warm and inviting. After a celebratory pint, having survived Dartmoor, and making it to our next destination, we made our way upstair to check into our room, shower, and return for food, glorious food! The room was large and comfortable. The bathroom and shower were the same. The view out our window was pure country---cows, fields, large green trees, and mooing frequently. Just LOVED it! We had a delicious meal, and I especially remember my steak and ale pie---light and flaky crust, tender beef, delicious vegetables. Always chips! The server, who has lived in the area for years, was funny and kind, and helped us with a short cut up and over a high ridge. We made our way to bed, falling blissfully into a soft, large bed and slept like logs, awakening to morning moos! After another amazing British breakfast---eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, toast and tea---we had to put on our hiking boots, hoist our backpacks, and head back to work. Our marvelous experience at the Tradesman's Arms gave us encouragement to keep moving forward.

The pub is in a lovely spot in a quiet village. We had a table looking out over beautiful views across the valley at the back of the restaurant area. We luckily coincided with 'steak night', and each had a perfectly cooked and very tender steak with great chips and trimmings. With a small glass of red wine, this is offered for a miraculous £11.95. We also ate here the next evening, choosing a la carte this time. My shepherd's pie was nice, with proper diced lamb. Accompanying veg could have been a bit more interesting, but again the cost was very reasonable. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and staff helpful and efficient. The food was good, but the interior of the pub rather plain and in need of some tlc, eg there is little sitting area, except at the dining tables. The food was brilliant, we visited on 'Pie night' and our table of 3 ordered the beef and Stilton, the pork and cider and the chicken and mushroom, all were very delicious and were huge portions! We also had a 2 huge sides of veg. For pudding we ordered the sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream...amazing! Understand that the clotted cream is made by the farm next door, and it tasted wonderful. The whole meal was met with universal praise and my mother who was visiting from NZ (ex pat Brit) especially loved the pudding and still talks about it! The man on front of house was very friendly and attentive. Overall a great little pub tucked away down a country lane.

Despite there being no table available for Sunday lunch the staff said to take a seat and they'd sort it out, we ow;ld be fed at some point. We did as suggested and so pleased we did. Lovely roast lamb with excellent service, felt really well looked after. Pub full of friendly locals and the young guys running this very busy pub were so welcoming.

Off the beaten track and tucked away in a small hamlet a couple of miles out of Buckfastleigh, this traditional old pub is well worth a visit for its food alone. The decor is plain and a little dated in places, but the service was excellent and the food exceeded our expectations. Shame we found it on the last night of our stay!

To list this pub as being in Buckfastleigh is a tad misleading since it is a few miles out of this town, in the hamlet of Scoriton (sometimes spelled Scorriton if your sat nav can't find it) and the lanes hereabouts are narrow and winding.Although we had been advised to book, we decided to just turn up, at 7 pm on a Wednesday. The place was clearly busy with two large tables reserved. We were given an honest appraisal of our options: a slightly out-on-a-limb table between two dining areas or wait 20 minutes for a table to become free in the restaurant. Being in no hurry, we opted to wait. In 20 minutes we were shown to our table. The young waiter was obviously a bit "green" and new to the job but he was expertly marshalled by the acting "front of house" who turned out to be the head chef at other times. I had fears of waiting ages to have our order taken and then be served, but I worried in vain. Prompt service with a genuine eagerness to please.I had probably the best pub curry I have ever had (Wednesday is a pie and curry specials night although full menu also available). The lamb tikka Marsala was a very mild sauce but I had several massive chunks are very tender lamb in it, with rice, naan bread and two large poppadoms.Overall the menu is a typical array of pub food but excellent portion size and good quality throughout and very good value for money.

Well worth a short detour off the A38 to break a journey to/from holiday, or for more leisurely dining in a nice old pub. the extension is somewhat lacking in atmosphere compared to the original, but the service and food are very good.

Visiting friends in the area, decided to try this lovely village pub. Meal excellent, prices good, atmosphere lovely and welcoming. We stayed for the quiz night held on a Thursday evening with the proceeds going to Air Ambulance. It was a great evening with laughter and fun. We didn't feel strangers or like tourists, we were made to feel part of the village . Thank you. We are coming again soon.

Stayed here for one night lovely little pub rooms very nice and cosy unfortunately couldn’t watch tv as there wasn’t a remote and couldn’t use the shower as the button was missing of it which definitely would of been noticed on cleaning … the carpet in stairs were quite dirty and the people I didn’t find very welcoming sadly

Christmas lunch for 12 of us. Pre ordered from a balanced and varied seasonal menu that included fish and vegetarian options. Excellent value and we were very well looked after. Exceptional selection of well cooked Vegetables, recipe for the red cabbage please . Some of us were disappointed that we didn't have room for a desert ! This is a family owned proper pub with helpful competent staff. Parking right opposite but payment by card challenged some of us oldies.

Limited opening times, No food so asked out of curtesy if grandson could eat a snack. Was told no but to eat outside in the garden which had a closed sign on the gate, so had eat in the smoking area. Didn't feel particularly welcome. No alternative snack was offered. Wasn't very accommodating, we were staying local and would have returned for a meal but they said closed Monday and Tuesday and we would need to book if wanted to return. I would advise anyone to give this pub a a miss as there are much better pubs in the area
