We booked dinner here for a large family meal with people travelling in from different places in the UK. Rebekah from the Townhouse had already sent us menus in advance (very useful when a group contains young children older relatives!) so we could pre-order. This was particularly helpful when, predictably with people travelling in from multiple locations, we were late. We phoned ahead and Rebekah was extremely understanding and rearranged our time without any fuss. When did get there the service was excellent and the food outstanding. The Townhouse burgers were especially popular. Everyone left feeling very happy and satisfied. Thank you very much to Rebekah and everyone at The Townhouse.

Sunday dinner Plate was not warmed so food was cold very quickly. Luckily portion was very small. 3 potatoes, 1 carrot, 1 YP and a slice of beef. Cooked ok but very overpriced. Staff were very pleasant & attentive.

A disappointing experience. First, approaching from the car park it was an adventure following the signs through passageway to the front of the building. The door with the name on was locked and the one next to it was so heavy to open we thought at first that it was locked too! Eventually we were seated for our lunch booking. Sunday lunch and the place was practically empty. We needn't have bothered to book. The menu was brought with a declaration of what was not available. Our chosen starters did not live up to expectation. The prawn cocktail could have been assembled by a child and was accompanied, not by the promised brown bread and butter, but by a slab of white toasting loaf scraped with the thinnest layer of butter. My tempura vegetables with mayonnaise turned out to be a deep fried pile of broccoli and cauliflower florets with a thin brown crumby coating served in an olive dish. After my roast beef main course I was thoroughly cauliflowered out. Desserts were strange too. The apple crumble looked a bit like apple sauce smothered by a sand dune of fine crumb. The chocolate mousse was solid when I had expected something light and fluffy. The coffee foam was missing entirely. However the service was polite and efficient but I doubt we'll be returning.

We held our company Christmas party at The Townhouse and found they were excellent hosts. The food was superb, the staff were both friendly and extremely accommodating, and all of our guests had a great evening. We had outside entertainment booked and the venue couldn't have been more helpful with our plans. I'm certain we will book again!

To be fair, I was impressed. It’s been a while now - about 6 months since I went, but haven’t gotten round to posting a review till now. First impressions were fairly neutral - it doesn’t look much from the outside, and the bar area on the left doesn’t look very big, but I was asked if I would like to eat in the dining room at the back, which turned out to be a rather nice, light airy room with pleasant tables and seating. I had something similar to “Pork 3 ways” with a roulade of belly pork and black pudding, chop and potato and apple Rosti. It’s one of the few restaurant meals I’ve had where they served something the average person couldn’t rustle up at home. It wasn’t cheap, but not fine dining prices either, yet the food had presentation you would expect of a dearer restaurant, so value for money imo. Coffee was also good, as was service. I was just sorry to see it so quiet, as they deserve to be busier…

Restaurant lovely and staff helpful BUT ordered the lamb Sunday lunch really nice until I turned the Yorkshire pud over and its clear the cooking pan had shredded its silver covering all over it. Should chef have noticed? Yes I think he should. Other half food was excellent so that's why 4 instead of 5. Might come back but it's a pricey meal so I feel they should have taken extra care to make sure its perfect.

The townhouse deserves a 5* review, as it’s consistency, great hospitality and consistent modern food menus make it a leading choice for eating out in the North Shropshire area. On our last visit (Oct ’22), we enjoyed dinner from the a la carte menu and as before, the variety of local produce was really heartening to see. Added to this, the passion for cooking and working with local producers from head chef Jack is always so inspiring. Today, due to the pressures on hospitality and recruitment, it feels that many kitchens aren’t (or sadly can’t) put local produce on their menu, instead opting to use mainstream wholesalers. However, Jack goes above and beyond to include local Dolwen farm lamb and seasonal ingredients on his menu and takes pride in making time for customers to enhance their experience by also having a brief chat when possible. The Townhouse continues to be a real gem and one of our absolute favourite places to dine – thanks to all of the team.

We were staying in Oswestry and wanted to find somewhere that catered for coeliacs. I’m so glad we found The Townhouse. The front of the restaurant looks nice and modern, as you enter there is a nice bar area with tables laid for dinner. We had booked a table for 4 and when we arrived we were given the option to sit in the bar or restaurant. We chose the restaurant. The restaurant had a mix of table sizes - a large party of 12 were dining this did not affect the service time at all. The atmosphere was nice - it was the start of the bank holiday weekend and it wasn’t too busy. The menu was extensive - brunch, lunch and dinner options available. It all sounded very appetising. I like seeing the menus all together as it gives you a good idea of returning at a different time of day - something I would definitely consider. The gluten free options were surprisingly abundant! As well as a large number of “can be prepared gluten free” options too. To start I chose GF chicken liver parfait, it included a lovely red peppercorn butter and onion chutney. Absolutely delicious and a nice generous portion. My daughter had the same (non GF) and they looked the same - which is nice you can often feel a little short changed as a coeliac and this restaurant clearly strive to avoid that. Main course I chose a steak - another huge coeliac tick here is; yes they have GF chips/fries using a separate fryer! Praise be! They also checked at this stage whether it was coeliacs or an intolerance - the marker for many of us to show a restaurant know what they’re doing! I had it with peppercorn sauce and I can honestly say it was one of the nicest meals I’ve had in a long time. There were a few GF desert options but I was too full! My husband and daughter had the sharing raclette which could be adapted to GF and it was amazing. They enjoyed mains of fish and chips and the burger, and for deserts - creme brûlée and chocolate delice. We had wine, sort drinks and beer and the bill was approx £150 for 4. It was absolutely worth it, we would highly recommend and will happily return if nearby again. The service was also excellent. The server was incredibly friendly, able to recommend dishes and was suitably well informed on the coeliac front.

After a very pleasant anniversary meal late last year, the town house was the first choice to celebrate mothering Sunday with my wife and two children. Unlike our previous visit the food was far below the standard we were expecting. The meat was dryer, than dry, veg was cold and other accompaniment under cooked. Definately won't be our first choice in the future.

Good service good food, just what you want, pleasant staff. Our grandson joined us and his food intolerances catered for with no problems. We were totally impressed, so returned later in the week.

After a holiday in the area we decided for the last night to visit the Townhouse for our final meal. It is a lovely building, great decor and nice atmosphere so we expected great things. For starter I had the jamaican tofu rice bowl which was nice, my husband had the tempura crab, which was virtually all batter. For the mains he had the cheese and onion pie, very very ordinary with soggy pastry and a few vegetables. I ordered the vegan dish, all this was was thin slices of sweet potato, 2 figs with some vegan cheese in them. No sauce so it was extremely dry, and was more equivalent to a side dish than a main. All courses were very over priced for the standard of the food. I informed the waitress, when paying, that I was very disappointed with the meal and she said she would speak to the chef. Whether she did or not, no one came back to us, we waited and no one spoke to us again. We left annoyed and still hungry. I would not recommend eating here. The food is substandard and overpriced and does not match what you would expect from this restaurant.

Should be better than what it is. Very poor main course not worth £16 , sticky toffee pudding was a hard slab of cake. Starter tasty but miniscule. Shame as decor and atmosphere good and waitress very friendly

The food and service was excellent. We had Rouge (not rough) and she was fantastic. Very attentive and polite and made us feel welcome from the word go. Her rack, of lamb was to die for and the puddings were excellent. She made us laugh and her knowledge was superb. We will be back!!

Was really excited to try out this restaurant. Had read the media coverage and have tremendous respect for the owners. It was busy, nice weather had brought the crowds out to the outside dining area. It seems impossible to get good service these days, when you do it is rare. Has eveyone good left the industry post covid... There were plenty of staff on the floor, but systems and training were clearly lacking, and the basic good standards sadly lacking. As soon as we walked in lack of a clear greeting was a sign of what was to come. We ended up waiting far too long for our mains to arrive. Other tables also complaining and warning us about the lack of service. The place itself is beautifully & tastefully done. The menu reads incredibly well. The food did not disappoint. I sat eating the Fish Soup, trying to recall a better soup that I had ever eaten. This, I have to say was the best, absolutely incredible. The rest of the dishes were well cooked, and good, but nothing knock out. Rarely give reviews, but the lack of service was a big issue. One guy seemed to be more senior, but he was way out of his depth. Not even a goodbye as we left despite making eye contact with the Manager and floor staff! Would not recommend until the service is sorted out.

Lovely breakfast options, great tea and coffee, but all spoilt by the most miserable, unfriendly staff member serving, I've ever had the misfortune to be served by. It wasn't just us either, she was like it with everyone. It made us laugh to read the poster in store (shown). the secret is apparently " real smiles..... friendly banter..... " Not on a Monday morning apparently. I know it's probably a thankless task, I get that, but isn't customer service and a smile part of that job? We went into Clarks village and every other shop worker, bar none, gave us a friendly greeting and a smile. I hope she's OK, I recommend meditating first thing to help with stress. Update: I'm assuming that your response to my review is sarcasm, otherwise you really are clueless and your claims to value customer service are simply talk.
