Having visited before and living relatively close by , we decided to try out their evening service . The staff was welcoming and very friendly but slightly chaotic with numerous attempts by various staff to take our drinks order the moment we had the drinks menu in hand . The food was generally good although the promise of fondant potato with my venison was just that , a promise . The meal was served without notice that there had been a change to the dish . The venison was slightly tough but generous in size and the vegetables whilst being very well cooked was insufficient . My husband’s burger apparently was very decent . Attempts to have a look at the dessert menu took several attempts as our request was forgotten . Over all a decent evening and yes , we would go back . The restaurant just needs to be a little bit more polished. The meal for two including two mains , one dessert and two alcoholic drinks was £109 including a set service charge.

Pre booked lunch for 13:30 on a Sunday. 1st time to The Torridon and thought the Bo & Muc would be a good experience into 'The Torridon way'. The restaurant was less than half inside and one table outside with a small group enjoying drinks. We waited 40 mins for our main course with apologies from the staff when the food was served for the long wait due to 'a busy afternoon' I had fish and chips my wife a Ploughmans. The fish and the chips were over cooked by a couple of minutes and were reasonable, but no more. The portion of the food on the plate did not present well, it looked incomplete. The 'mushy' peas had the best taste. The Ploughmans was poor value with no bread or crackers and 2 small pieces of cheese but it did 'fill the plate' Having been to many better country pubs which is what the Bo & Muc is styled on we decided not to look around the main hotel and the experience helped us to rule out a return visit to stay in the hotel. I have no doubt the higher end hotel restaurant will be a totally different experience and the bar area of the Bo & Muc would be a cosy winter hangout from the hotel, but but our experience was underwhelming and only average.

My experience at the Torridon hotel remains most memorable, it's my first time visit, the reception perfect and the meals ok. Behold the natural vegetations and peaceful scenery of the facility, having amiable staff who treats their guests as kings. Thank you Tonicha for treating me to a dinner at the Bo and Muc Restaurant, Dominique for your wonderful services and all others who made my stay fantastic. I love the Torridons.

A nonexistent choice if you are vegan or have dairy allergies. Over priced and pretentious. I settled for the risotto in the end and did get an alternative offer to the ricotta after pursuing it. The risotto was very oily and mainly garden peas and just acceptable on the salt front - close to over salty. It took an hour from our booking time to receiving food and we had arrived early for a drink. My companions had mixed offerings too. One returned to our accommodation to have a second meal as he was still hungry after a pork belly that was mainly belly fat. Disappointing.

Expensive but tiny portions are not what you want after a day in the outdoors of beautiful Torridon. In particular the accompanying vegetables were just a spoonful. Hardly the way to a healthy diet. The staff were good though.

Very disappointed in this restaurant. The atmosphere was stuffy. The staff continually tried to serve us food we didn't order ( suggest you put numbers on the tables ) , we ordered steak which was over-cooked and when we asked for mustard we were told there was none. They offered us ketchup instead! We felt it was over-priced for what it was, and when the bill came - it should have been £108 and they charged us £166! With no real apology or explanation as to why they had over charged us £58. We had hoped it would be one of our holiday highlights and instead was most certainly not.

During a recent stay at The Torridon - the hotel associated with Bo & Muc - we ate here twice. You can expect an upmarket pub menu with some local lagers and international wines. Dining options included fish, burgers, steak, etc. We found service a little hit and miss at times. But when we complained the manager on duty was very responsive. Prices are at a premium, but it's to be expected considering the remoteness of the location. If you're staying in the area, it's worth a visit if only to take in a drink.

Visited for an overnight on a walking weekend with my daughter. Tragically poor in every way, the food was overpriced and not of particularly good quality, Bread was not served with the soup which I brought to the waiters attention, this was acknowledged however still no bread brought to the table!,,… I struggled to eat the lamb as it was very fatty and the mashed potatoes were disintegrating into the lukewarm broth it was served in,,,,yuck! I left most of the main meal but was not asked why when the waiter removed the plates…….wine was as poor as the food and most of the bottle left, think I managed half a glass….found the waiters response to my ordering lamb instead of the venison on special a little patronising as it was a “ good climb down”🤷🏽‍♂️ We gave up here and decided not to order sweet! We left the bistro feeling dissatisfied and disappointed. Extra expensive pub food which did not reflect in quality or service. Needless to say we wouldn’t go back. On a mild plus the breakfast was fairly good.

It is only recently I ve been able to talk about this . We had been telling everyone at home about how we were going to have a wonderful anniversary and it was totally destroyed !

Our visit here was enjoyable as the restaurant is relaxed with a friendly service. As well as the main menu there was a menu of special dishes. I selected a dish from the special menu and all food that was delivered to the table was well presented and had great flavour. Very close to comfort food. The highlight was the apple tarte tatin with rum and raisin ice cream. Service was also relaxed but professional at the same time.

We were staying in the Torridon for 2 nights and had initially booked one night in Bo & Muc and one in the main Hotel Restaurant (1887). We were so please with the meal and the ambiance in Bo & Muc that we changed our booking there for the second night. In summary the menu was good - something for everyone, the food was good....the atmosphere was very relaxed and enjoyable - plus the meal etc. was all reasonable value. Another factor - was Marianne (I think she's the manager).... who was just so nice...nothing was any trouble ...so a big thanks to her - she made the experience on both nights one to remember!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This is a review by Dick and Joe. Both the 1887 and Bo & Muc restaurants are a part of The Torridon, a hotel on the banks of Upper Loch Torridon, commanding spectacular views and rightly demanding attention for its stunning architecture. The fancier sounding 1887 restaurant was not open to non-residents, apparently due to staff shortages, so we opted for Bo & Muc where we were able to reserve online, and we later phoned to ask if they could fit us in earlier, which they duly did, and were very friendly on the phone. We ate on Friday 7th April 2023. The restaurant The website for The Torridon is chic and attractive and alludes to a level of quality which we simply didn’t experience through Bo & Muc. The restaurant itself is tucked round the back, in a separate, non-descript building overlooking the car park and well back from the loch. The bar area consisted of mis-matched tables and chairs, walls painted a brick-peach colour, a piano wedged into the doorway of the disabled WC and the general feeling that you’re sitting in a corridor not a lounge bar. The section where we ate was a sort of conservatory dominated by plastic plants and random objets d’art strewn along the window ledge, a trio of wilting roses on the table, fake candle and bland elevator music playing in the background. Inside, Bo & Muc was divided into a series of random rooms. Where we sat, ‘Rive Car Park’, there was a lot of empty space and very few tables making it feel more like a storage area. We found out later that this is going to become the new lounge area, but they’d been waiting some time for the new furniture – time enough to make this space feel less of a temporary afterthought. The food Dick had the Trio of Hot & Cold Smoked Salmon, Arcturus Pine Gin & Lime Cured, Citrus Jelly, Apple & Beetroot Salad (£12). Despite the fun names, this was average at best and the salad came with an overpowering garlic dressing which would be reprised in the main course. Joe opted for Haggis & Black Pudding Bon Bons, Parsnip Puree, Whisky Peppercorn Sauce which went down well with no complaints (£11). For mains, Dick had an 8oz Ross-shire Rib-Eye with Triple Cooked Chips, Roasted Vine Tomatoes, Garlic Butter with an option of Blue Cheese or Peppercorn Sauce (an exorbitant £40). It was ordered medium rare, and came well done, but not surprising as unlike any other rib-eye, this was less than a centimetre thick and would have been a nightmare to cook to order. The staff were extremely accommodating and came back quickly with another steak which to the chef’s absolute credit, was medium rare. It had none of the taste of a rib-eye, very little marbling and it was a hugely overpriced disappointment. They kindly waived the cost of Dick’s wine by way of apology. Joe had the Seabass, Smoked Mussel Broth, Leek Mashed Potato (£27), a chowder essentially, though just a little too much on the liquid side and grateful for the mashed potato to balance it up. Other mains to consider included Venison Casserole, Port & Juniper Berries, Rosemary Roasted Potatoes with Seasonal Vegetables (£25) and Cauliflower Steak, Cauliflower Puree, Honey & Mustard Dressing (£18) which was the closest thing a vegan could have eaten out of the entire menu, were it not for the honey. The service When we entered there was no front of house service, and though we got a smile from a passing waitress, it seemed to be nobody’s job to greet us. We wandered through three rooms before we found the bar and ordered drinks. Only in the bar area did anyone ask if we had a reservation, and we were told they were running to quite a tight schedule, so they’d call us through at 7:15pm. It would have been a good opportunity to hand us menus, maybe a bowl of peanuts, especially if they were in a rush. Our friendly waitress eventually called us through at 7:30pm and gave us the menu as we sat down. The barman serving us and waitress Meg were brilliant, very friendly and welcoming and they went as far as they could to compensate for the miserable décor and atmosphere and underwhelming, overpriced food. Verdict The website branding of The Torridon is trying hard to create an image of luxury, but it’s trading far too heavily on the waterfront buildings and the carefully commissioned photography. That kind of branding is only going to work in the long term if the experience rises to meet it. The reality of Bo & Muc is an overpriced menu of fairly average food that a gastro pub would offer for a fraction of the cost in a much more authentic and welcoming atmosphere. The waiting staff we encountered were worthy of four stars but sadly they couldn’t save the overall experience.

We come up to Torridon every year and stay in either Annat or Torridon. In the past we've always eaten in Bo & Muc at least a couple of times during our stay and always really enjoyed it (I've given previous reviews). We've also visited the gin and whiskey bar in the hotel and eaten at the 1887 restaurant too. It's always been a great experience, great food, great atmosphere and lovely staff. This year however we weren't able to eat in Bo & Muc or the hotel because we weren't hotel guests. All we were able to do is have a drink in the bar in the afternoons. We did this 3/4 times during our 2 week stay in Torridon but by the end of our stay I actually ended up feeling quite resentful about spending money there. The decision to only allow hotel guests to eat isn't very clear. I couldn't help but feel that this place has actually started to get a bit too big for its boots since featuring on BBC Amazing Hotels (we were actually at the hotel for an Archery lesson when they were filming the episode). There is an air of superiority about the place now which seems to account for a lack of effort and friendliness. It's almost as if they now rely on the fact that they featured on the TV show and that everyone who walks through the door should feel privileged to be allowed to experience it, even if that's for a drink! After loving this place for years, this year, I was disappointed and resentful. It's a shame they now dismiss those that probably helped them get to where they are now. We'll continue to stay in Torridon as it's absolutely stunning but I wouldn't even visit Bo and Muc for a drink in future. I shouldn't be made to feel like I'm lucky to be a customer, you should be grateful for your customers and those willing to spend their money in your establishment. Really disappointing.

My partner and I visited Torridon for a few days decided to have dinner one night at the Bo and Muc. Considering that the bar and restaurant are part of a 5 star resort, the food and service weren’t great. Several different servers brought us our courses and it felt a bit chaotic. The food was ok, I ordered steak which hadn’t been rested before serving as I ended up with the plate swimming with blood. Dessert was good, it was a bit of a wait though. The waitress kindly took one of the desserts off of the bill without prompting which made up for it. The bar is set on the Torridon estate but separate from the main hotel, there is a sign stating that dogs and those with “muddy boots” are welcome, but in the bar area only, meaning that you can’t eat there after a long walk. The tables in the restaurant are given to hotel guests as a priority, which is fair but means that those in the local area (including those that live in the village) miss out. Overall it was ok, but having seen the hotel featured on the BBC, it didn’t meet our expectations.

After slumming it in a camper van for 4 nights we decided to treat ourselves to a luxurious night in the Torridon Stables and a meal at Bo & Muc. Best decision we made whole trip. The staff were very friendly and attentive, the feel of the restaurant was relaxed in comparison to the fancier restaurant in the actual hotel, and the food was absolutely delicious. A little pricey for a casual dining experience but I think the quality of the service and food completely made up for it. Because of Covid restrictions we weren’t allowed to have a drink inside, however the staff are very helpful and will arrange for you to have drinks in your room or sitting outside with as beautiful view of the hotel itself while the sun sets and the bats fly overheard. Bliss!

We read the other reviews on TA and decided to book lunch. My wife ordered a whole lobster which the waiter informed her would come with a salad. My wife should have asked if the lobster was served hot or cold but she did not. The lobster was served cold but was very good quality. Unfortunately, there were a few tiny pieces of shell in the meat that should have been removed by the chef when he/she partially cracked the claws. I had the ribeye steak which had a wonderful flavour. My only disappointment was that it was not as hot as it should have been. It wasn’t cold but but could’ve been warmer. Despite these small niggles we enjoyed our food and the service was very good. We would probably return.

Just excellent! I'm not keen on fussy/stuffy dining so Bo & Muc was perfect for me. They even have a sign saying muddy boots and dogs welcome..The food is ace and reasonably priced (£15-20 for mains) and you taste every ingredient. It's all fresh and genuinely good. Salmon one night cod the next and they were both superb. All the staff are fantastic, welcoming and professional and Beatrix who was our waitress was excellent.. You should go there.

We have been coming to Torridon for the last 3 years (just can't get enough of the place!) We stay just down the road from The Torridon Hotel (of which Bo & Muc is part of) and always drop into this place a few times for either lunch or dinner. They have a great choice of food and drinks. The food is always really good as is the service. It's a cosy place with a fabulous atmosphere (even in these strange pandemic times). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit for lunch or dinner. You won't be disappointed.

We planned in advance and made a reservation for Sunday lunch a couple of days up front. We'd seen The Torridon Hotel on TV and wanted to go see it 'in the flesh.'Bo & Muc is the hotel's pub/bistro restaurant that's separate to the hotel. The decor - lovely, the tables all well spaced, the staff - all welcoming, smart and the whole place had a lovely casual vibe. The menu - lots to choose from. Starters tried and recommended - wild mushrooms on toast, really delicious, fishcakes - just as good. Mains - chicken, leek pie with a mashed potato topping and side of cabbage/bacon slaw. My other half had the burger (meat source there at The Torridon). Quality of the food really good. We forced ourselves to share a pud - not sure when we'll next be this way - it was worth it - the ice-cream sundae - chocolate, ice-cream- all the great things you'd expect. Tables available outside too - brill on a dry day - lovely views across the hotel front to the awesome scenery across the Loch.

Bo and Muc is part of The Torridon Hotel, we were greeted with a warm welcome from the superb waiter and shown to a table before going for lunch.Beautiful relaxed setting and immaculately decorates with beautiful personal touches.Food is good sized portions and super tasty. Service is excellent and attentive, would highly recommend to book ahead as there must have been 3 or 4 groups turn up without a booking and had to be turned away.

Being greeted by a large fan at the door was strangely quite a unique relief as it kept the midges outside!Once inside the friendly atmosphere and attentive staff was comforting. The food selection was good and the quality of the food was excellent. The wine list was impressive and we were tempted to stray into the whisky bar afterwards.Highly recommend this as a great place to eat without any pomp.

This pub/ bistro is an annex to the beautiful Torridon Hotel. We started off in the main hotel for a Gin and Tonic in the beautiful grounds, and took the dogs on a marked trail to the boathouse . We than walked around to Bo and Muc , where we had booked . Dog friendly too . The service and food were both excellent . Would definitely recommend .

We arrived at the hotel as we didn’t know where it was, the hotel is lovely with beautiful location and grounds. Staff kindly pointed us round the corner and through the stables to the pub. It’s a bit bland from the outside when you have just walked round from the hotel but it’s comfortable and modern inside.Service was very professional with personality. Food was tasty, well presented and good value for money. The menu is a little generic and perhaps a few more specials would be welcome.Would certainly return and well worth a visit. Will skip breakfast to make more room for the Tunnocks Ice cream Sundae!

What a difference a year makes, well a couple to be precise. My wife & I have been going here over the years, from a beer/meal after a long day on the hill to a leisurely day & a coffee.I believe I complained the last time we dined, the food was not good, the staff were rude & unhelpful.I had read about the renamed venue & as we were staying at Shieldaig I decided to book a table for the evening, in fact we had been walking that same day & decided to call in for lunch & see what we had let ourselves in for as previously had a sour taste. We ordered sandwiches which were gorgeous, more so were the 2 young ladies serving, very very polite & couldn't do enough. We arrived for our evening meal, oh my word, all we had was beautiful, from the starter through the desert (pictured), all of the staff including I believe the French Manager were very attentive & helpful. I/we cannot praise enough.Hopefully this will continue for years to come.Thank you. You all deserve the accolades you will receive.

We ate here on a few occasions during our stay at The Torridon and only had great meals. They offer pub classics cooked very well as well as daily specials featuring local, fresh seafood and meat. One evening we had the mussels with garlic butter and the steak, both of which were incredible and cooked so well. The staff are friendly and helpful. Couldn't recommend Bo & Muc more.

However the ‘new’ staff were excellent front of house Simon from France is first class impeccable service, attention to detail and friendly. A lazy chef if you are vegetarian. Mains; Macaroni Cheese or Spices Cauliflower Cheese. I opted for a burger which was not a burger at all but separate slices of squash, halloumi, beetroot and mushroom placed on top of each other. The wair=er could only deal wit menu items so asking for the burger with other vegetables instead of the bun was beyond him. They did move us when the pipes "music" could not be turned off to a quieter table after some minutes and an assertion that all other tables were too small for out group of 5. It was not.

We stayed at The Torridon Inn for two nights and I honestly couldn't recommend it enough, we are already looking forward to returning in the summer.Lovely big rooms with a huge comfy bed which Skye made herself at home on very quickly (cheeky). Food was delicious, breakfasts were large, quick and brilliant. Dinner meals were fantastic, we had the. Chicken and haggis pie which which was deceivingly big, and the burger on our first night both spot on and on our second night we had the scallops and risotto which was heaven and the lamb shank which was huge and delicious. However my real five star reviews go to the staff, especially Jamie the bar tender and Shane the French waiter with the impressive moustache were beyond fantastic and completely made our stay with being so friendly and accomdating and going above and beyond for us, thank you to them. Can't wait to return.

Went to the restaurant with my husband, daughter and a family friend on Saturday 15th February 2020 whilst staying in Torridon for a long weekend over half term holiday. The others had the fish and chips, but I had the scallops, which were priced fairly expensively I thought at £22. However it was a bit of a treat, so I decided to have them as I love seafood and the West Coast is famed for it. It seemed to be a good quality establishment so I had no worried about hygiene or food poisoning. How wrong I was! When the meal arrived it was presented nicely on a bed of risotto with spring onions and heart-shaped venison chorizo, which must have been left over from Valentine's Day, I thought. Now I wonder if the scallops were left overs as well? There were three huge ones in the plate, and although I was slightly disappointed with the taste (they were slightly bitter) they didn't seem off. We ate early, at about 6pm, and I didn't have anything to drink except water as I was driving. The next morning about 6 am I woke up and was violently sick every hour for about the next five hours, followed by diarrhoea. I've had food poisoning before so I know what it's like, and those scallops were the obvious culprit. I don't know of any bugs going around at the time, either. It completely ruined the rest of my holiday. I wanted my husband to go back and complain for the sake of other customers who may also get ill, and because £22 is quite a lot of money to pay for the privilege of being sick, but he said that we can't prove it was the scallops and it would be my word against theirs. He didn't want to argue for a refund. Now I want to know if anyone else was ill from scallops around that time and to urge people not to risk their health by having them. I'm so glad I didn't give any to my daughter to try. I don't usually post on trip advisor but I felt I had to this time. It's a shame as it seemed like a nice enough restaurant, if a bit pretentious.

We ate there twice and ordered the same thing both times. Guess that says a lot about what we thought of it.I had the Scottish Haddock and Chips. Huge piece of cod and excellent, crisp chips (fries). My wife had the Maccaroni & Cheese. Sounds basic but this was excellent, with a great sauce and covered by browned cheese and bread crumbs.Very reasonable price particularly compared to the fine dining restaurant (complete with dress requirement) at the main, Torridon Hotel next door.Very pleasant wait staff. Just a generally good experience.

Food was very hit or miss this time. Our 1st meal was fabulous but the rest of the food we had was very disappointing. One special fish meal was swimming in a strange seafood sauce that killed the dish.To be honest I expect better from the Torridon Inn.The menu is very limited & doesn't have much seafood for being next to the sea. The staff are the real stars of the show. Roddy playing on the piano & singing inbetween serving & looking after the tables & Scott in the bar had the banter.

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.
