We were looking for a light lunch as we were visiting the garden centre, the staff and service was good, a regular coffee was a really small cup, the sandwiches were very expensive, hardly any filling, the bread was dry so I couldn't eat it, I asked if I could have a soup instead, that was very tasty but came with a fifth of a smallbaguette. My husband is a catering manager and was incredibly shocked at the prices and quality of food, we spent 20 pound on a lunch that we didn't enjoy at all and regretted going there, we weren't offered a refund for the difference of the sandwich and soup, although the manager was very apologetic. We definitely won't be returning there.

The meal was good value for money. The menu had a few pleasant surprises and many of the regular offerings. Service was good, the restaurant was clean and well maintained and everything represented good value for money. We used this as a venue to meet friends and had a very pleasant lunch; definitely a venue we will consider in future.

This coffee shop within Daleside garden centre has a luxurious feel to it. Well presented with a good selection of cakes and scones, but let down by long queues at the till. This despite there being 3 people behind the counter and much of it being self service anyway. It was clean and comfortable inside. A bit pricey and towards mid afternoon food on offer was looking a bit sparse even though it was nowhere near closing time. Cakes were not covered in any way so their freshness might be in question. Children’s menu was good with some very healthy choices and novel ways of presenting them such as the sandwiches in a plant pot!

I visited the garden centre last month, as I do regularly. & always pop in to the restaurant for either a meal or just cake & coffee. The ladies work very hard, especially as sometimes you can see they are short staffed. Always polite & helpful. I’ve got to say I’m shocked to see some of these bad reviews, some of them (the personal attacks on how the staff look) are really nasty & uncalled for. I hope they’re looked into by management as my guessing its personal rather than having a bad experience at this restaurant. I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone, & would hope people can see through this poisonous persons personal attacks on staff.

I popped in for lunch during the week and was queuing up when a customer in front was returning a baked potato because it had cheese on, apparently she had asked for a plain potato. The manager then preceded to argue with her at the till point shouting at the customer and belittling her. Everyone in the queue could see and hear this and the customer looked shaken and embarrassed. I there and then decided that myself and 12 friends would not use this place as our regular ladies lunch venue. RUDE RUDE RUDE! To make it worse it appears the customer had an intolerance to cheese, so not only was the manager arguing a point of dairy accuracy ( she told the customer it was butter not cheese on the jacket) she is happy to ENDANGER PEOPLES HEALTH! I often revisit local places and this place pops up quite often in my travels. The service you receive depends upon which staff are working. The rule of thumb is this: The new staff and deputy Supervisor are working you'll get a good service and atmosphere. The Older Supervisor and established staff are on, you get poor service ( unless they know you) and the atmosphere is miserable. The standard of coffee differs depending upon who serves it ( I recommend you always have Dawn make your coffee if she's there) It's a lottery as to the standard of bakery, scones range from palatable to dry and inedible. The place has a lot of potential but needs fresh eyes running it.

My friend and I went in for breakfast and both ordered a vegetarian breakfast, and asked for the fried egg to be changed to a poached egg. Nick on the Till deferred to her manager behind her who didn't even bother to turn around and acknowledge us and just said no. Now I know the only fixed meal is the early bird breakfast. I have regularly been going to Daleside nursery for over 40 years. But will now no longer spend my money on food in that cafe. The staff are rude and don't accommodate you unless they class you as a " regular "

Stopped off at The Topiary with my granddaughter after her Swimming Club training. I enjoyed a full English breakfast and my granddaughter had pancakes. Very well presented by a pleasant, helpful and welcoming staff. Food was very nice and wasn't greasy. It's a busy cafe which does breakfast, lunches, afternoon teas and even a Sunday roast. Tables aren't too close together and everything looked very clean to me. Background music is subtle and not too loud. All in all we had a pleasant breakfast and chat.

Pop in here a couple of times a month and haven't as yet tried the hot food - usually a coffee and a tea cake. This time had the gammon / ham sandwich on nice granary bread, a small dressed side salad with mustard mayonnaise. A tad pricey at £6.99 but tasty. Noticed on our bill that we had been charged for a bag of crisps (£1.10) - when I explained that we hadn't asked for (or been given) crisps it was explained that the sandwiches come with crisps but are charged separately. We went back to the counter and picked up a bag of crisps - strange arrangement. That said you can ask for the sandwich without crisps, all very odd. Anyway, sandwich was nice and the illy coffee was well made. Pleasant staff, nice Christmas tunes playing in the background and the cafe itself was clean. For those that haven't visited before its part on the Daleside Garden centre (now operated by Klondyke). Lots of Christmas gifts in store at the moment and a nice looking Santa's grotto - I think you have to book ahead for that. Also be aware that there is a speed camera almost immediately outside the garden centre - 30mph limit.

Went in here a couple of weeks ago for lunch, they have a selection of bakery products on the counter with no covers on them, flies walking all over the place. I mentioned it to one of the staff members, who went and informed their manager (Tracey) who then did nothing left the products on display and for consumption My the public....MMMMMMMMMM yummy file poo bakery thanks a bunch.

Went for buy one get one free on afternoon tea as breakfast and lunches are excellent here. Was disappointed today as sandwiches were thin and dry not much filling which is a shame as they do excellent sandwiches. cakes were dry like been left out for a while. Small fairy cake was solid and topping rock hard buttercream. Only thing nice was the scone lovely and fresh !! Not up to there usual standards I'm afraid. But saying that I will go back again and try again to see if one off.

The cafe has had a revamp, but it hasn't got it right, the way you order is overly time consuming, you give your food order to a staff member behind a counter who writes it down then hands it back to you, you then order our drinks from someone else, you then get to the rill person who again asks you what you have ordered, you have to give them the written food order you previously gave to another staff member ( are you all still with me here) you are then asked for your table number, I hadn't sat down because I was by myself, and didn't know you had to choose a table first. The system needs a drastic overhaul and fast, I suggest full table service. The furniture seems to be a mix of old and new as if someone went over budget and spent too much without costing it up first.

Another Sunday lunch outing with mum. Now to be honest we've not been here for a while. What has happened? In the days of yore, there was a 2 course Sunday lunch on offer with a choice between 2 meats and a good variety of veg, followed by a dessert. Not anymore. There was a menu board as you walk in displaying the dishes of the day and another over the counter but none on any tables. It does make things a tad difficult when you're trying to manage an elderly person and then have to trek back and forth to relay the food available. There was a board which said there was a roast chicken dinner but it was not obviously displayed. In fact it was so obscure it could have been playing hide and seek or peek-a-boo!! Even the cake cabinet was sadly diminished in comparison to what it was. Anyway mum chose a ham and onion omelette. She reckons the pig escaped as there was a very meagre showing of the ham. My let's - play - it -safe cheese and onion sandwich was exactly that...safe! We ate up and left not hungry but with our appetites unsatisfied. A real shame.

Every couple of weeks I like to take my family to daleside garden centre to see if there is anything new in to purchase to enhance my garden. Popped in with a colleague for a cuppa and a piece of cake. The service was dreadfully slow. They were very busy, however, they had done a mail drop of vouchers for afternoon tea so many people had come in with that. There was, however, still just one lady serving, one cooking and one seemed to be washing up and filling milk jugs. I did get a decaffeinated tea and a delicious piece of white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake; my colleague had an expresso and bun which was also good. However, the slowness and lack of smiles means I don't think we'll be back!!!

Please could the management of this Café have a meeting to address the awful customer service provided by the staff there , went there for a coffee yesterday and was going to have something to eat , but the woman who served me was abrupt and her attitude terrible . There are plenty of people out there who would gladly take your jobs if you don't want to be there.

We arrived at the cafeteria at about 15 minutes to 12. In the party were myself, my husband, our two adult daughters and their two infant daughters aged 2 and 3. We had come there for a hot meal. We saw in the display cabinet a number of dishes of hot food ready to eat, but when we attempted to order any, were refused the food, being told by the lady behind the counter that we were too late for breakfasts and too early for lunch as we had arrived 'in between' and could therefore only be offered toasties. No apology was given. One of the children began to cry because she did not understand why the lady wouldn't let her have the food she could clearly see displayed in front of her. My daughter then said 'We'll go somewhere else then' and we left with the crying, hungry child and her younger, hungry cousin who was fortunately too young to appreciate what had happened, but not before I had spoken to the manager, Jason. As I told Jason, this was not the first occasion the cafeteria staff had treated us this way, as on a previous occasion, we had gone in at about 15 minutes before closing time wanting no more than tea and cake (the cake was on display in the cabinet) only to be refused service, again without apology and in an abrupt manner, as 'it was too close to closing time'.

Nice Wetherspoons situated in an old bakery. Plenty of seating. Wide range of cheap drinks available. Great selection of ale on offer. Serves food. Nice ambience. Can’t go wrong for a pint or two. Cheapest beer in town. Family friendly within reason.

On our way home from a weekend in Wales and we stopped here on a recommendation. From the minute I walked in my brain was screaming no! It was not looking the cleanest of places this may be because it is so dated inside with tatty furniture and dirty carpets but as it did have a 5 star hygiene to the entrance door and with my dad being diabetic and neededing food we went with it. We ordered three roast dinners and they arrived homemade but the veg was waterlogged and tasteless and I was pretty much not willing to take a chance of eating in here so waited for the parents to finish and made a quick exit. Only reason I put poor and not terrible was because the lady and her daughter that was about 10 that served us was very polite.
