Popped in on August Bank Holiday Monday lunchtime, not too busy, we weren't told there would be a wait but an hour passed before we got our food which when it came along was incorrect and the cauliflower nuggets were burnt and bitter and if it wasn't for the BBQ sauce they would have been inedible. £3.29 for a "cheesy garlic ciabatta" (ordered plain) which was actually just two slices of a supermarket garlic baguette with cheese on. 2 small sausage rolls for £6.29 is abysmal value (they were nice though) Small plates are becoming the norm for places to rip customers off. A young daughter of a staff member kept running in and out of the kitchen and we could see staff drinking lager through the window of kitchen door. Seems like health and safety are equally low down the list of priorities. It's dog friendly but our normally placid dog started to get irritable after such a long wait so would advise not to take dogs in TBH. Anyone passing through Burgess Hill as we did would do well to swerve it.

8 of us went for Sunday lunch. The service was awful, very slow. The 'restaurant' was incredibly noisy, the background music - unfortunately wasn't. Our orders weren't correct. The few staff rushed off their feet. The food was mediocre. It took ages to sort out the bill as that was also wrong. I wouldn't recommend the pub. In reality, its a sports bar attempting to sell food

What an amazing place, the management and staff are amazingly friendly, Will and Hikari have really made it feel like a home away from home. Food and atmosphere is great. Sunday roasts are best in burgess hill and in fact any of the food beats any other establishments in Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and surrounding areas. A absolute must visit, you will not be disappointed. They are dog friendly which is great as a ending point from a long walk, what’s better then great pub to eat some great food and sink some beers after a long walk, thank you and we’ll all see you soon

... still full of of the kind of afternoon clientele (at the end of the bar towards the Snug) whose every second word is 'fack'. Which is never nice to hear. Tho seems to be a Burgess Hill thing, the Railway down the road is exactly the same. Despite the improvements in decor (loving the framed Albion shirts!) the place smells musty. And we really shouldn't have to be trying to enjoy a drink while continually having to swat away a number of persistent small flies. Drove us away in the end. Don't suppose the pub can do much about the afternoon clientele, but they can invest in some fly spray before opening time surely?

What a shame, having enjoyed s delicious Sunday Roast here before I was totally shocked today. It looks like it’s changed hands since our previous visit. The Sunday roast is now a carvery rather than the amazing roasts before. The staff now are rude beyond rudeness. I expressed my concern with the cold meat and vegetables and was dismissed abruptly. I don’t know what has happened with this place and I sincerely hope the previous staff have found homes with venues that appreciate their value. Never again, I asked for the Manager and I was presented with a very rude gentleman. I don’t know where they are going but it’s downhill. Do not visit this establishment:

Great Quality and Great Price. We don’t tend to go out for roast lunch unless it’s at the Oak Barn as the roast is usually overpriced for the quality of the food that is presented and then the realisation while we are chewing through a tough dry plate of food is that we could do better at home and why do we bother trying to find a good roast out? So for many years we usually cook our own roasts on a Sunday. Haven’t been to the BH Inn for a long time as always busy. We have a week off so as I had heard some good things about their Sunday roast we thought we would go see. We had a table booked for 1:00pm. They were offering a carvery of beef, pork (and excellent crackling) and turkey on display under heat lamps. The usual vegetables of cabbage, carrots, french beans were kept tucked away underneath keeping warm. But not dried out. When we handed the ticket over to the chef he carved up many generous slices of tender, succulent and tasty meat. The roast potatoes were lovely along with the parsnips, mashed sweet potatoes and yorkies. Everything’s freshly prepared and the cauliflower cheese was unbelievably gorgeous. The sauces were all there even a bowl of mint sauce (apparently people like it on their veg)! We were thoroughly stuffed and will be definitely letting people know about the quality of the roast lunches. We will definitely be returning.

To once we arrived the waitress was very kind and friendly (hence why this is a two star and not a one star) we was some of the first people in there for food, once ordered we proceeded to wait for our food to come. Some time passes and we notice that it has been at least 50 minutes since we ordered but stayed calm and waited, other people had gotten their food in the meantime but had ordered after us. Once the food had arrived I noticed that my burger has relish in there when I asked for it without, the burger tasted cheap and the meat itself was hard and wasn’t too hot. My mother enjoyed hers but said it could have been hotter, once leaving to pay we then got informed that there was a gas leak and all the other customers couldn’t eat there.

My husband and I visited here on a Tuesday evening at 7.30 and we were the only diners which was not a good sign but as we do not know the area we decided to give it a chance. The young barman/waiter was friendly and we were served promptly. The menu is very basic pub grub with very limited choice so we both opted for the haddock and chips with a side order of onion rings. I ordered a glass of Shiraz which was very good my husband had fosters. The food came quickly as was to be expected as it was so quiet. Unfortunately my fish was horrible it was clearly not fresh and had a taste of bleach and the batter tasted strongly of oil. The chips were fries and were okay but not home made. The onion rings were stodgy and served with an unpleasant sweet chilli dip. My husband's fish was not as bad as mine but he said it was tasteless and we both had doubts that it was actually haddock. The meal came to £33 so not expensive but we will not be returning which is a shame as the pub is lovely.

I had to book a table for a group of 5 who were driving an hour-long journey to get here (and on a wet night). I was a bit apprehensive as the pub was a new venue for me. However, from the time I went in to make the booking on the day prior to the time we left we received very good service with a smile from all three staff members we encountered. All our group ordered steaks apart from one haloumi salad. The steaks were requested 'rare / medium rare x2 and one well done' - all said they were, 'delicious' as was the haloumi salad and very good portion sizes. We would all happily go there again. Only one tiny gripe - only two out of the 5 desserts were available (not that we actually needed dessert!), and no chocolates or biscotti to go with the coffee. Please consider having that as an option - our group of ladies love chocolates with our coffee!

We were the only people in the pub and the food took 35 mins to arrive. The food was OK, nothing special. The fries were overcooked, greasy and limp and they came pre salted with quite a lot of salt. I have been here a few times with friends for drinks and had absolutely no issues before. Pleasant atmosphere, great heated garden area for drinks and I have heard the food is great for the price etc. Unfortunately I recently had a rather unpleasant experience with a member of staff at the Inn. Upon arrival I was asked for ID, which is no bother as I am 22 but can happily agree that I look young. However, upon my second time to the bar I was met by a member of staff, who told me his name was curtis, he asked to see my ID again, which I happily obliged. He looked at it for an incredibly long time and his manner was probably the rudest I have ever come across in any pub or restaurant before. I also work at a pub locally and enquired as to whether the kronenberg was always as flat as it seemed to me that evening, he assured me (in an incredibly patronising, eye rolling manner) that that was how THEY served it THERE and that we must be overdoing it. Upon last orders, which was at a perfectly reasonable time we were asked to leave 5 minutes after ordering our final drinks. As someone who also works in a pub I do understand that people have homes to get back to and want to finish quickly but this was slightly ridiculous. I think this is a real shame as the pub was perfectly fine other than this incident. My friend who I was visiting with also commented on his manner and we were both quite shocked that management had allowed someone on the bar with such appalling personal and customer service skills.

Arrived at the Burgess Hill Inn for a family meal and drinks. We were shown to our table by a very charming waiter who then took our order. We were one of three full tables that evening sitting in the restaurant area. The menu looked delicious so we promptly ordered sausages and mash, haddock and chips and a walnut and halloumi salad. Firstly the order came out wrong. To our amusement, instead of a salad the chef had mixed up the order and I was handed a burger. The waiter was extremely apologetic and advised he would fetch my salad. Unfortunately by the time it had arrived back at the table everyone else had finished.Everyone at the table stared at my salad in disbelief. It was a bag of mixed leaves with a few slices of raw red pepper and a chopped raw mushroom. The menu stated 'grilled peppers and cider vinaigrette' however, neither of these were on my salad and to top it off the halloumi was playing hide and seek and didn't want to be found either! I then asked the waiter where the halloumi was which he looked extremely embarrassed about. He advised he would fetch it. Whilst waiting, the table opposite us had advised the waiter that one of their burgers had clearly been kept under a heat lamp for quite a while and was inedible. Now, I'm no Inspector Clouseau but I suspect this was the burger I was given earlier that evening! So my halloumi finally arrived in a dish. 3 measly pieces of cheese to add to my mountain of leaves, raw pepper and one raw mushroom. I ate the cheese and left the rest - I wish I was of the rabbit species because I would have demolished it. Another mix up on the table next to us... again, wrong food and delay in the young girl being able to eat with the rest of her family. The haddock and chips were tiny for the price. Overall a very overpriced menu for the standard the Burgess Hill Inn delivered and just to add to the disappointment my mother and partner ended up on the toilet for most of the next day. Such a shame we had a bad experience because previous reviews appear excellent. Based on our experience the chef definitely wasn't delivering what was offered on the menu and getting every table order mixed up.

As was a sunny day sat in the garden in the enclosed area with patio heaters that were a bonus when the wind picked up. We had burgers, roast beef, gammon steak (£10-11 each) & kids sausage & beans (£6) mains which were really good & served quickly. My 3 year old enjoyed running round the garden & going down the slide on the playground. Also had lemon cheesecake, choc orange torte, apple crumble (not enough crumble) (£5 each) which were good.

Just home from a 90th Birthday bash held for my Mother and felt compelled to write a review thanking Jason (the Manager) and all his staff for making it a really special day. We'd only booked the area for a couple of hours but ended up staying 4 hours. Their catering consisted of a hot buffet and everyone commented on the variety and amount served up. All in all it was a lovely experience and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend...

Five empty plates at the end of the meal - well cooked and very tasty. We'd all chosen different meals and it was all served at the same time. Attentive staff throughout.

What a great job they have done with this place since the refurbishment. We had a reunion gathering here today in a room to the side with one large table.we had pre ordered a cold/hot buffet and wow what a spread, they really did us proud. The establishment was well laid out and the staff were excellent. There is plenty of parking but you must register your cars number plate at the bar or other wise you may be fined. We all had a great time and are thinking of doing the same here again for the next gathering.

Have been to this place many, many times over the years with lots of different managers. Some good, some bad and each time it starts off well. Over the past 3 months or so, (since beginning 2017), this place has lost any atmosphere it had built up, does not seem to do much to entice custom and is a real shame as I have been a big supporter of this place. Does not seem to want to compete on price or offers that other places do, (maybe the owners or management feel they are above such things?), but it is never 'heaving' like other places. So maybe they need to re-think! Come on guys... Super location, large premises, make the effort!

I visited this place with my team for a christmas set lunch. They have a side room away from the main pub which can seat, I would guess about 12 or 14 people depending on how friendly you are!The food was well cooked and the service was very good without being overbearing. We were given plenty of time between courses to allow for relaxed chatting etc.One thing to point out is the car park. Despite lots of signs, some people did not register their cars with the staff at the bar. Apparently, they get a lot of problems with folk using the car park and going off to London or Brighton for the day. The pub is right next to the station. If you don't register your reg number on arrival, you are likely to get a parking ticket from the private company they employ or worse still you could find it has been towed away whilst you are enjoying your dinner. All in all, it was a very enjoyable lunch. Thanks.

Not a bad pub, nice selection of screens showing sport. Just wish would get some decent bitters inn. Harvey's nice but can get anywhere so some local Brewers would go down well..long man, langham, black cat, kissingate to name a few.

When visiting our relatives, we regularly dine in the Burgess Hill area but have usually been disappointed by the food choices, prices and quality on offer at the various establishments we have tried in the past, particularly for non-meat eaters such as ourselves. However, we were pleasantly surprised when we tried out the Burgess Hill Inn for the first this week. One of us had the Bubble and Squeak and the other had the Butternut Squash Risotto. Both meals were served promptly and were well presented on the plates. More importantly both meals were very tasty. We told the friendly and helpful staff that we had enjoyed our food and would return again in a few weeks time. They were pleased to hear this and advised that they would be making some changes to their menu selections over the coming weeks. We hope that those changes will not remove the Bubble and Squeak and Butternut Squash Risotto options from the menu or inflate the price of said options, (which, typical of most restaurants in the area, are already quite high for what they are - considering the cost of the ingredients involved). We shall see when we return.

We went in here on Christmas eve as our usual pub has become a little unreliable for good food. We were not disappointed. So we made this the place to meet up with friends last night....and how delicious it was. We had a lovely table round the back of the public bar area so away from the general hub bub. We had a fab girl making sure that our order was taken and made sure we were okay for drinks. The food came out all together, beautifully presented, hot and tasty. Served by friendly smiling staff. Three of us had the lamb shanks, one Burgess burger and a risotto. The menfolk then polished off two crumbles with custard. The music plays in the background at a good level without being intrusive to catchup chatting, but loud enough to enjoy. Walking back out through the front we were surprised to see how busy it was considering the little noise we had heard. We were given a friendly smile and farewell by the barman as we left too...With a thank you. We will be returning very soon for another evening meal and also to try the Tipsy afternoon tea. Take a look at their menu...The old Top House is rejuvenated and is worth some recognition. Well done team.

First time visit here and very impressed. Nice warm welcome, friendly staff, and excellent food. My wife had the roast beef as well as my daughter, my son in law the gammon, and I had the burger. All incredibly tasty, would have liked the bacon on my burger to have been a little crisper, but that's my personal preference, next time I shall request that. My wife considered the roast beef to be one of the best she'd ever come across. The gammon, I'm told was incredible, and my burger was massive, tasty served with a generous portion of chips and a dish of coleslaw. Three of us had a truly delicious apple crumble, whilst the fourth had a mouthwatering chocolate torte with fresh cream. We just cannot fault any part of the service or the meals. We will definitely return.

One of the party is a Celiac, so somewhere gluten free was high on the agenda. Luckily they are aware of this and prepare meals with this in mind. The food was hot and exceeded expectation. To round it off the service was professional, courteous & friendly.

How lovely to have an area all to ourselves! From that moment on the staff were attentive without being intrusive, each course of the meal was delivered promptly without being rushed and our drinks were refilled whenever needed. The generous portions of food were delicious, arrived hot and everyone received the correct food! I've already booked a return visit - can't wait!

Eight of us booked the Burgess Hill Inn for our team Christmas lunch in early December. The Christmas menu was varied at £24.95 for three courses, £19.95 for two courses. When we arrived we were really pleased to find the staff had prepared the "Snug" area of the pub which is a nice room off the main bar area. They had laid a Christmas table with candles crackers decorations etc, very festive! The staff could not have been nicer and brought drinks to our table when we sat down.I had the soup to start which was served with crusty toast and butter. It was delicious.Main course was traditional turkey with all the trimmings. There was plenty of it and the vegetables were nicely cooked. Everyone enjoyed their main courses. An extra jug of gravy was put on the table for anyone who wanted more.I didn't have dessert however others in our party had Black Forrest Gateaux or Lemon Meringue Pie, everyone enjoyed what they had. They have Harvey's beers as well as regular standards.I have to say that the treatment we got from the staff was brilliant and they could not have done more to make our Christmas lunch better. I would highly recommend the Burgess Hill in as a place either for a drink, lunch, dinner or Christmas lunch.I will certainly be back for lunch again.

I approached the BH Inn at the very last minute to accommodate an unknown number of people for food and drink, post my Father's memorial service. The staff could not have been more accommodating, before and on the day, we discussed an approximate number of people for finger food, tea and coffee and I was happy to leave the final decisions in their capable hands, they knew what to do and it was also a reasonable price. The food was good and tasty, our friends and family were impressed, the area we used was comfortable and the overall cost including the bar bill was well under budget. We are happy to recommend the BH inn, there's also plenty of parking.

We booked for our Christmas staff meal, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was really relaxing. The courses were nicely presented, with just enough waiting time in between each one, (unlike some places where you are served each course straight after one another. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. We were lucky enough to dine in "The Snug" and it was great having an area to ourselves. Will definitely be paying more visits.

Came in last night with friends for a pre Christmas meal, not having been into the place for months we were all suprised at the fantastic change. The food was top notch and service very good, a shame the rest of the restaurant was empty but I think it will take time to rebuild a local reputation. There was live music and a really classy feel, a world apart to the old top house! Will be back :)
