Spent a couple of days in Ironbridge and was looking for somewhere to have a bite to eat one evening. Went into the public bar and ordered 2 x Jacket potatoes (1 x prawn, 1 x chilli & cheese) along with a side of cheesy garlic bread. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The food arrived in a timely manner and the toppings were plentiful and delicious. On the Sunday we popped in on our way back from a walk and decided to have a Sunday lunch. We had 1 x beef and 1 x pork. Both meats were delicious and tender. The meal came with a great variety of vegetables as well as amazing roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings. Both drinks and food were reasonably priced. We were so impressed, we've looked into staying at the hotel for our next visit to Ironbridge.

We’ve eaten Sunday lunch here a few times in the last few weeks and it is, without a doubt, the best in the area! Great quality, beautifully presented, every conceivable extra (Yorkshire pud, stuffing, roast parsnips, cauliflower cheese, mixed veg, creamed and roast potatoes etc) and absolutely sublime gravy! I’m a good cook myself but this gravy is out of this world! Great service by friendly and welcoming staff so you cannot ask for much more. We eat out quite a lot and this is the best Sunday lunch in the local area by far. I cannot understand those that have reviewed differently! They must have unreasonably high standards or maybe just impossible to please no matter what!!

Spontaneous visit with the Hubby to this wonderful place. The service was superb, delivered by friendly and efficient staff. The food, as a caterer myself, was excellent. Everything from the meat to the gravy was cooked and presented to perfection. We had thought about the 2 course option, but after cleaning our plates we could only manage a coffee after. We will definately be returning. Highly recommended.

Went for Sunday lunch with group of friends because I had heard it had recently been taken over and was decent for food. Overall it was disappointing with the restaurant side room having no atmosphere and the food not very temperature hot and sparing with portions based on what they charge. Wouldn't bother again for Sunday lunch but might try a snack in the bar when passing on our walks out. ☹️

We recently spent a week discovering Ironbridge's industrial heritage and sampling its food and drink offerings. By far the best meal we had was at The Architect, the fine-dining room at the Tontine Hotel on Fridays and Saturdays. The room has recently been redecorated, as have the lounge and bar areas in the hotel (we didn't stay there - perhaps another time). This is a new, young team in the kitchen, I was told, and it is led by a clearly talented 23 year old chef. The menu offers a 2 course (£33) or 3 course (£39) option. We had a Cheddar Beignet and a Poached Smoked Haddock for starters (both light and sumptious), and Fillet of Beef and Rack of Lamb For mains (both melt in the mouth and decent portions - the friendly waitress also brought warm bread and spoons to finish off the remains of the delicious sauces). We couldn't resist desserts, so a Strawberry Mousse and a Dark Chocolate Tart followed. Chef also sent through a couple of extra tasters for our opinion - a nice touch. I have to say everything was delicious. This is top quality food. We did see the chef briefly on the way out and mentioned a couple of minor things. This is a new venture and he welcomed our comments, taking the view that he wants to improve the experience wherever he can. The hotel offers a more mainstream choice of food on other weekdays and a Sunday lunch menu, but if you want to treat yourselves on a Friday or Saturday night, make plans for The Architect!

Had such an enjoyable meal & evening here. We came on Good Friday and figured going into Ironbridge would be a good idea in case lots of people were out, as there’s a few restaurants to choose from. Popped into The Tontine around 6:30pm, it’s in a great spot just across from the famous bridge. We couldn’t have been made more welcome - firstly by the barman, who grabbed us a menu for the restaurant, then got us some drinks and let the waitress know we wanted to eat. Than the waitress herself who was very pleasant, warm & funny. We waited around 15 mins for them to open the restaurant properly and then were showed in to choose our table. The menu is very reasonably priced for the quality of the food, we plumped for the full three courses as the starters looked great. In addition to the three courses we were also given olives & bread for the table, and an amuse bouche of roasted tomato soup which was really nice. It was really hard to choose mains as the options were all excellent. Loved sitting by the window and people watching, plus being able to see the bridge was great. The staff were excellent, the owner popped over to check everything was okay as well. Couldn’t have had a nicer time, and would definitely go back if we were in the area.

Not a good experience today I’m sad to say. The place was cold, log burner had gone out and the bar staff clearly didn’t know how to get it going. Was looking forward to a hot bowl of soup on a very cold winters day, but when it eventually arrived it was luke warm and I had to send it back. We thought we might come back and try the new restaurant but after todays experience possibly not. Such a shame as this place has great potential, but it certainly lacks atmosphere and warmth!

Recently visited Ironbridge and stayed here for the night. Being right in the centre this hotel which in its day must of been quite grand. However very run down with no atmosphere, room was awful. Bathroom room door wouldn't shut, bulbs that didn't fit the lights sticking out. Tired dirty plastic flowers. It was so depressing we were glad it was a short stay. The next morning we went down for breakfast and it seemed the maid was cooking it. I do however understand staffing issues because of Covid we were not expecting it. However I wished they just said it wasn't available as it was awful. My 5 year old had a dead fly in her egg just laying there. Of course she didn't eat the rest. It was all put in the deep fat fryer and one plate had garlic breaded mushrooms (who wants then for breakfast) it was terrible quality and had half a tin of tomatoes poured everywhere. It was the worst experience I have had at a hotel. We let ourselves out as no one about and it was all in darkness.Just such a shame as with the right investment and staff this old building could be the hub of Ironbridge.

Spotting that the Tontine offered mid-week evening roast dinners, we decided to give them a try.Obtaining a ticket at the bar, we duly went over to the carvery displaying both turkey and beef.We both chose beef which was served in thick slices with a Yorkshire Pudding and helped ourselves to a range of roast & mashed potatoes, roast parsnips, carrots and seasonal veg, plus a ladle of rich brown gravy.Food was not exceptional and the bar had a dated feel, but topped off with a pint each of well kept ale, it was a good value dinner on a wet Wednesday night in Ironbridge.

Fancy something modern, up-market, trendy, loads of leatherette, plastic, chrome and plate glass? Want modern, trendy food with jus, foam, foreign stuff? OK. Go somewhere else. The Tontine is an old, venerable building, and it remains such. The decor is in keeping with the history f the place, the photographs and pictures are fascinating and fit the design beautifully, everything was clean and the food was plentiful, reasonably priced and enjoyable. The staff were lovely, dead friendly and great fun. The four of us had a great evening, good nosh, good beer, good atmosphere. Two major pluses - I met the young lass that some oaf described as having the personality "of an empty suitcase" - she was great fun - and I didn't meet the mindless, ignorant, unfeeling buffoon who made the comment. My wife and I went to The Tontine on 14th June to enjoy the weather and a meal in the sun. We both ordered a burger meal, one being the double cheeseburger from the 'Off the grill' menu. When it came it was rubbish. Basically 2 frozen burgers and a slice of cheese on a white floured bap that looked like one from a pack of 6 from Coop! There was a handful of chips and no garnish or salad. The most boring looking meal I could imagine for almost £9.I complained to the man behind the bar who confirmed the burgers were frozen, but then went to offer every excuse he could for everything else. He then scurried off to the kitchen before coming back and informing me that 'chef' says I'm the only one ever to complain and that the baps are from the cash & carry- not Coop!!!I asked for 2 drinks of pop and when he began to enter the prices into the till I asked if they could be on the house as a gesture to which he replied "yeah ok, anything to shut you up". A charming comment to a customer!! I was very polite and as a customer I do have the right to complain when food is poor. (To be fair here my meal was okay).I then went on to ask him why the burgers were not home made (like mine appeared to be but I had one from a different menu) but before I could even finish asking he butted in saying "look, I've given you free drinks so lets leave it at that shall we".I've never complained about this sort of thing before, but I have to say it fast became more about the attitude of the bloke behind the bar than the rubbish food.

It's an interesting journey into the late 70s.I was absolutely appalled by the conversation. Racist and judgemental. Will never ever step into this culturally unaware public house again. I would definitely not recommend this place to anybody. Me and my partner stopped here about a year ago, the staff were okay but not great and we never went into the bar at that time. This time we were with family for an early Christmas weekend away, we didn't stop here but being regular visitors to Ionbridge we did a pub crawl and stopped at the Tontine because the beer is good. What a huge mistake. We arrived the staff were extremely rude to us, didn't once smile, people say it's a 'proper pub', this is a place where they do not want the sales and customers. Bearing in mind there was 14 of us all together and round was coming to £65 each round, we only had one round because we felt unwelcomed. After bringing a table to another we were then asked to move to another table because we wasn't allowed to sit where we were sitting. There was nobody else in the pub so we decided to play a game of darts...we asked for the darts and got a rude reply of no, it's going to be busy. We were literally the only people in the bar and as we walked past later that evening it was not busy at all. The staff continued to be rude to us with the one man who we can only presume is the manager not even looking at us in the eye when talking to us. It's safe to say that we finished our drinks and continued to the next pub. I would recommend that everybody passes the tontine and just continues onto The White Hart. The staff really let down a historical pub with great beer.

Located opposite the famous Ironbridge this hotel was built in 1784 and apparently has enjoyed Royal visitors in its time. They were all long gone by the time we visited but seemingly so were everyone else. However, in truth we went there for our evening meal and the lack of people inside allowed me to order immediately we walked in. We ordered simple food; my wife chose Ham Egg and Chips but made complimentary remarks about the quantity and quality of her ham throughout as I devoured my superb Lamb Shank. The food was absolutely stunning. To be honest, more people started filtering in as we finished our meal so tis possible that the place may have livened up a bit after we left.

Stayed overnight at the Tontine. Made to feel very welcome and given a room looking out over the Iron Bridge. We sat outside for the evening enjoying drinks and people watching as well as a walk around to get different views of the Iron Bridge.Room was fine but we managed to flood the floor of the shower as the seal on the shower screen was defective.Slept well in a comfortable bed and found everything fine if a bit dated, could not grumble for the price.Breakfast was an excellent full English which did them proud. Other choices were available as well as cereals etc. Overall a pleasant experience in a lovely location

We'd been out visiting museums for the day and fancied a beer. There are chairs in the sunshine and it is a great place to just sit, drink beer and watch the world go by. The beer was very nice we just had to have a second. We didn't eat anything and cannot really comment on the inside or food.

Just a short 2 day stop at this hotel... arrived to have Sunday Carvery, which was very good and reasonable... the cost of Larger is on the steep side compared to my own local in Worcestershire.. but most of the pubs in the area are charging up to £4.30 a pint, so shop around.. The room was clean with tea making facilities... a bit dated.. but comfortable 4 poster bed... BEWARE the Shower in this room 8.. has no temperature control..... either hot or cold with no in between...

We always stop for a drink when visiting ironbridge on the motorbike,it was a very pleasant afternoon and we always sit outside which is very pleasant, but when you go inside it is very dated and dark and not very welcoming the person behind the bar seemed very miserable I think he his the landlord this place is ok if you can sit outside on a nice day.

Ok so the floors creek but not in our double room which was nice and comfortably ensuite with a good sized bathroom and a view across the bridge. The TV screen was a bit small (my eyes are not so good). The is basic but snug serves real ale hand pulled and has a short menu of good homemade dishes. The Pub is family run and all the staff very friendly. We very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone who wants somewhere with a bit of character.

We walked in and were immediately made to feel welcome by a nice attractive young lady named Sasha. Her bar was relatively slow except a very nice elderly gentlemen named Jim who added to the levity of the conversation. Sasha was very accommodating and even recommended other places in the area recognizing the importance of supporting other local businesses in so a close knit community. The Ironbridge area is replete with colourful locals and friendly people and I highly recommend a visit to the area and especially to Sasha's bar. Five stars!!!

Myself and 3 friends went in on the off chance today after seeing the board outside and enjoyed the carvery very much. The food appeared to be all home cooked (real veg not frozen), was hot and had flavour to it unlike some carverys which are reheated mush. Good value for money and both the lady behind the bar and the guy serving the carvery were really friendly. I was offered vegetarian gravy without asking for it and it was brought to the table. The pub is obviously undergoing some improvements but it was clean and tidy - including the toilets. We would definitely go there again if in the area, thank you.

We stopped in here after a 7 mile walk, to get some lunch and a cheeky wee pint. We had a dog with us so we sat outside, on lovely outside furniture with an umbrella, and they had a bowl of water outside for the dog. We all ordered different things, and we all enjoyed what we got. They had a selection of three or four real ales, which was great. The staff were lovely and the locals helpful. If I lived in the area I would be a regular visitor. Very reasonable priced as well.

We ordered lunch at approx 1.30 on a busy day for Ironbridge (festival day). We ordered at the bar. None of the staff seemed to know which tables each order should be going to judging by the bingo calling type system of 'did you order the 3 fish and chips and 1 curry?" meanwhile the food is getting cold. We had to ask for cutlery. The food wasn't the hotest. My lasagne was tasty but uh hum , stayed with me for hours. There are several more places to choose from.

Really bad experience! We had a table booked for a birthday party, upon arrival we were told that they had no room for us even though the booking was on the system - absolutely appalling! The manager did nothing to help and told us if we waited for 30 mins a table would be available but we would just get scraps of what was left of the carvery. So so disappointing- would not recommend this place, if you have a booking there I wouldn’t count on actually getting seated.

Googled for a local restaurant whilst we were in Telford and this came up. Had good reviews so we tried it yesterday. Great value and lovely food. We had the chicken curry and sausage & mash. Both meals were served hot and they were very filling with very good portions. Two lads were working - both polite and professional. Highly recommended 👏🏻

Popped in here tonight for a quick pint and some food. Curry night. Long story cut short.... Her masalla was like water and the bread harder than granite. My naga chilli... Bread was the same and the chicken even harder than granite. Lesson learned eventually.... Had a refund and will never eat there again. Dreadful to say the least

Food and service were good, I just wanted to bring to your attention that your chicken tikka masala on your main menu and your daily promotion leaflet show different spice ratings the main menu said it had 1 spice level but the promo leaflet labelled it a 2 spice level, I found this to be very misleading and put me off ordering it as i couldnt make an accurate call on the spice level of the dish, it showed the same calories so I assume it's the same dish. Thank you
