The Lion Inn in Telford and Wrekin

I'm really glad to say the Lion is back, a great selection of beers and lagers including real ales, they also have Heineken zero on draught if you're looking for the alcohol free alternative. The food is excellent, freshly cooked with no complaints from our party. The staff were very friendly and polite and took everything in their stride.

Went lunchtime was very impressed staff were very welcoming and feel very relaxed when you don't know what to expect . The food was excellent and the portions were a good size and value for money this was our first visit and we will go again .

I’m so pleased I chose the Lion as the food was amazing. I chose a steak which is terribly hard to judge. Wow melt in my mouth. The only sad bit was finishing my meal. Staff were genuinely very nice and food was top notch. Would absolutely recommend. 👌👌👌

Nice friendly pub. Nice to see well behaved dogs enjoying the pub along with there owners.

Ridiculously priced beer. £5.90 per pint for thatchers or IPA. Other beers were slightly cheaper. food service outside area dirty. No fresh running water for hand washing and staff using bare hands to serve food. Staff quite rude. All the time we were there we had pushy sales people asking us to buy candles and cookies for charity. We paid £10 entrance for what seemed like a good chance for local businesses to sell overpriced items to drunk people while listening to screaming loud scarr music. Parking was full both carpark and road so had a 5 minute walk for the pleasure. We will not be going back but to be honest with how rude the staff were and the chance of picking up diseases I don't think they want returning customers. I have zero positives to add.

The chicken burger was the nicest one I have had in a long time. We went on a recommendation by friends. It was our first 'date night' since having our son. So we wanted to be close by should we be needed. It wasn't busy but was a nice atmosphere with the regulars in after finishing work or down for their usual catch up on a Friday night. We sat at a table in the more secluded area and we order some drinks and was given a menu. Not a big amount to choose from but I don't feel it was needed as a nice selection for all. The food was excellent and you could tell it was prepared fresh. Good value for money in my opinion. Was very happy with the whole experience.

Very nice surroundings, staff are nice but the food leaves a lot to be desired! The venue was quite busy so had to wait a while for our order. Friend ordered potatoe and leek soup. I ordered baked cod. The soup was a gluppy mess and tasted vile. She did complain, they actually said it was too thick, so why serve it! They let her order some fries. I didn't complain about my cod but I should have. It was very dry and tasteless, supposed to come with asparagus I got green beans. When they came to collect the plates they gave her her money back and apologied. Don't think will be going back here for food.

Great pub been a cpl of times today was quiz night ...really busy and the staff were amazing.

Came here for a family meal for 8, knowing absolutely nothing about the place!! Really comfortable feel with first-class service; the lady who looked after our table could not have been any more helpful or patient. Excellent food which was well presented and generous portion sizes. Very clean pub; will definitely be back.

Recently held out grandfather’s wake here - the staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. There were a few complications at the crematorium service which meant we had to do some speeches at the pub and the landlady kindly closed the pub for us. The food was spot on for what we were after and plentiful. It was a perfect venue for us - warm and welcoming - I would highly recommend if you are looking a function venue - p.s I’m an events manager myself and would only do a review if I truly meant it. Thank you all at the Lion Inn for your care on an emotional day for us all.

Went here for lunch on the recommendation of a local resident. We weren't disappointed. Lovely pub, owners were friendly and the food was good.

Fancied a pint and the kids wanted to go to.a play area.... sister in law suggested this place so we went.... its hidden away and doesn't look much from outside, inside was pleasant and the garden at rear which we sat in was large with a small kids play area. Plenty of space for kids to run round, decent beer, didn't eat so can't pass comment on the food. Worth a visit if you can find it.

What a gem of a pub. Best pub I've been to in ages, great selection of drinks, very good menu options and excellent service. Kids ate everything on their plates. Definitely going there again, my new favourite in the wider area.

We visited on a quiet Tuesday lunchtime on the spur of the moment decision. It was 40 years since we had last been there and in that time the interior has had a complete revamp. It has a more modern feel but still retains that traditional pub feel. A pleasant surprise was the lady behind the bar who it transpires was the landlady all those years ago when we last visited. We were offered the lunchtime and the evening menu to choose from even though it was lunchtime. I picked the ploughman’s and boy am I glad I did. For just £10 I had three types of cheese, pork pie, a large stack of real ham plus pickle, slaw, pickled onions and a warm mini baguette and salad garnish. Fantastic value for money. My wife chose the cod goujon sandwich which had masses of fish in it and beautifully cooked. This is what pub food should be - good honest food at a value price. To top off this lunchtime treat there was a great choice beer, unfortunately I was driving so I couldn’t sample them all. It won’t be 40 years before our next visit!

I went there to catch up with an ex work colleague, we've met up there before. TBH neither of us ate but I had a good look at the meals coming from the kitchen, they looked very good. I'll eat next time. Lovely bar person (maid), felt comfortable, nice atmosphere. Overall a very well run hostelry. I wish it was in Shrewsbury where I live and not 15 miles away ☹️

Went for a family meal on launch of new menu and we all had something different. I had the lasagna with homemade garlic bread which was very tasty. My wife had the sea bass which she said was lovely. My sons had the Pork belly and the homemade pasta dish which they said were very good. All the meals were reasonably priced especially as the food is homemade. Nothing was to much trouble as the staff were very accomadating. Well done Jack and his young team of chefs kitchen staff and bar staff. Will definitely be eating here again.

Welcoming members of staff, lovely atmosphere. We went for a mothers day meal, and it did not dissapoint. The beef was perfect,my plate was loaded and was gorgeous. So many different flavours. Totally recommend.

Your website states kitchen times (which we booked over the phone within those times), to be called back after, asking if we could come in earlier because the kitchen closes at 3pm isn't good for business.... My booking was 4pm and it states kitchen closes at 5pm, you had to cancel our booking because i couldn't make it any earlier... my review is based on a first impression.

We have visited the Lion twice over the last few weeks, (after a very long time), we were not disappointed, we were greeted by freindly staff, made to feel very welcome, the food was good and hearty portions went down well, the Chef and staff took care of our requests brilliantly, and we will definitely be calling back as much as we can especially on one of their event nights.

The uk’s finest ‘2 Tone’ tribute band love The Lion. Having performed there twice now, outside in the garden and inside the bar, we can honestly say that the staff are a wonderful bunch, very accommodating and enthusiastic and there food and drinks are all top drawer. Kareoke nights are fantastic everyone taking part . Would but great of bigger inside as gets very busy . They also do food the pizza was lovely

I have been going to the lion for 33 years The last owner neglected the pub which was sad to see but this year it has had new refurbishment inside and out. It is warm and cosy and the kids area my nephew loves.The new owners are really passionate and you can see how much work they have put in turning it round. The atmosphere is fantastic. I have not eaten here yet but I hear when people have finished there meals how lovely they are

I was gigging at this place as a mobile DJ. Whilst waiting to start we ordered pizza with a side of chips. It was perfect. If passing I would most definitely pop in for lunch. Staff are of the old style of nothing is too much trouble.

We visited as a large group for Sunday lunch and it was the best roast I've had in a very long time. I understand the pub is under newish management and they really know what they are doing. Beef and roasties were cooked to perfection and everything tasted fresh and home made. The service was lovely too and we all agreed we would definitely be going back.

Second visit for food here and wasn't disappointed..Fish and chips were first class, finished with a chocolate brownie and ice cream .Everything home made and very tasty. Great selection of beers, friendly staff. Perfect!...

My hubby and I went to this venue for a midweek lunch and it was amazing. We had a ciabatta each which came with an amazing salad and we ordered chips as a side. These too were fresh, hand cut, well seasoned and absolutely divine. On the basis of that we booked a family lunch for five of us which we had today. I was a little disappointed if I'm honest. Our party included my mother who is in her 70's and now generally eats 1 small meal per day. When ordering we asked if we could order a child's portion for her as it seems such a waste to order food that is definitely not going to get eaten. We were told "I'll ask but he doesn't like to do that, he says if it's an adult they have to have an adult meal." OK fair enough so we ordered 4 starters and 5 roasts. The starters arrived and were to die for. Absolutely amazing! Plates were cleared in record time! Not so the main courses, I had beef which was tender in places but was also very sinewy, contained lots of arteries and inedible bits. However the guy on the next table also had beef and his looked amazing. Also on the plate was a Yorkshire pudding which was not very crisp and tasted like it had been reheated but was not awful just a bit disappointing. There was lots of things on the plate which the kids weren't keen on such a braised red cabbage and sweet potato mash. I can't say the meal was horrible because it absolutely wasn't but after the excellent lunch and starters we enjoyed it wasn't what we expected. We were disappointed. The lady behind the bar knocked the cost of one of the kids meals from the bill as compensation. However, given that the prices for any of the Sunday menu aren't displayed we were none the wiser.

We only visited due to a minor mix up with a booking elsewhere for a family gathering and it was a very good alternative. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The place was very clean and tidy, which makes a huge difference. Plenty of drink options, and the food was well presented and hot when it arrived. I'd definitely recommend the onion rings ("doughnuts"!) in particular. Will certainly be calling in again.

Went to the Lion with my daughter, her partner and two young grandchildren for an off the cuff lunch. What a find!! The food was absolutely superb. I can honestly say the fish and chips was the best I have had in many a long year. Really crisp and crunchy batter surrounding a really fresh piece of fish with beautiful fluffy chips. My daughter and partner had burgers but these were not the run of the mill usual burgers. They looked home made and were succulent. As much care was taken with the children's meals. Puddings were great and homemade. If you want a great meal come here you will not be disappointed.

We went for steak, on steak night it was very fatty,it was not a Sirloin more like thin frying steak. The pepper sauce was Tasteless, the staff was very nice and the wine was good. I will go back try different foods on the menu, cause when new Management, They always need a second chance so they can get it right.

I stopped of at this place with my lad whilst passing through on my way home.. What a quaint and welcoming place. It was Saturday afternoon, and the place was not overly busy, but more than enough for a quite, settled, country styled pub. The pub is also dog friendly for walkers or ramblers alike. The staff were remarkably friendly, courteous, polite and the service was promt. The decor inside is comfortably arranged, with plenty of room for larger groups. The whole area is floored with a light oak flooring, with carpets in the dining areas. There is a pool table in the corner at a pound a game, which was ideal as I'd got my lad with me. There are draped lights in the pool area, along with a fruit machine. The bar area is tactfully decorated with light neon effect lighting which sets off the bar area perfectly. There's also a large TV for viewing, which was at a reasonable level, with more lights lighting up the half wood panelled wall. To the rear, there is a large beer garden with tables and chairs, benches, and also a separate ordering area for drinks to avoid keep walking into the bar. Access to the toilets is via the pool area, just before you enter the garden and I must say they were immaculate. The menu was extensive and of good value, with more than enough for the hearty hungry or a light bite. A vegetarian option is also available on starters and the mains, Tea, coffee and hot chocolates are also available. A kids menu is also available. We didn't stop for food, but there was a five rated food and hygiene award on display that was dated only yesterday (13-5-2022), and from what I heard the food was excellent. A polite goodbye was sent from two of the staff on our departure... A rarity these days. I will definitely be staying here again to sample the menu on my next visit, and thoroughly recommend anyone passing by to do the same. On departure I heard that the pub is under new management and the present occupiers have only been here a little over a month. An absolute pleasure of a visit. Keep up the good work.

Really good food, Sunday dinner was great and didn't have to wait long at all.

Having been out with friends we decided we didn’t want to cook and looked for somewhere close by for a roast dinner. We had difficulty trying to get thr by phone so decided to take a chance and see if they were still serving and could fit us in. After being told yes we were quickly shown to a table, served drinks and meal order taken. There was a wait but it was worth every minute if it! Food was attractively served, plentiful and piping hot; beautifully cooked and very tasty. Dessert was equally delicious. A great renovation has been achieved here and it was also lovely to see staff and customers from the past. Can thoroughly recommend and wishing new owners best of luck in their new venture. Thanks and kind regards to all involved.
