A very special pub with superb food and laid back friendly service. Great drinks selection and a roaring fire made the evening even better. We all enjoyed our meals so very much - from the pigeon wellington to the chicken burger, faultless throughout. Definitely recommend!

We are old, a bit grumpy, but decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the Tollgate a place we have started going to more once again. Our meal was superb the beef pie cooked to perfection, excellent pastry, very fresh vegetables and chips, my wife’s chicken dish was excellent too. There were plenty of other options too, the entire menu was interesting and varied. The range of beers available were interesting and varied. A mention to all the staff who were friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient.

A friend recommended we tried The Tollgate while visiting Holt. SO glad we did, best Sunday roast we have had in years and decent value too. I had the trio which was spectacular and all garnishes amazing. Great crunchy roast potatoes! Next time we are back we will certainly be visiting again. On Monday the do 2 burgers for £25 which seems good and no corkage every Thursday. Great pub!

Me and my family visited her one Thuerda linch and I must say everything was superb. Hope cooked, fresh and imaginative dishes as well has homemade pies which looked amazing! Can't wait to return to try more of the menu.

Amazing breakfast and wonderful service. We had the pleasure of staying here for 2 nights and enjoyed a delicious dinner on both evenings, pub classics as well as more refined restaurant dishes. Breakfast was also on point each morning and we felt so welcome. 100% recommend and we look forward to booking another trip very soon.

There was 6 of us in our small group traveling around the UK. we stayed at the Inn for 4 nights in four beautiful old coaching Inn rooms, all had double glassing and beautifully furnished. our rooms were clean and beds remade every day. the staff are very friendly and very helpful. we had meals the three out of the four nights , and they were a real high class pub food, I don't think that we are only one's to think that as every night the Pub and Restaurant was full. our breakfasts also were a high standard

First found the Tollgate for a sad family event. Were very well catered for, so took all the family for a happy birthday lunch, in April and again in July. We are always well received and they cater well for children which is very relaxing for parents (and grandparents!) The food, and beer is always very good, decent portions and the ales are well kept and clear. We've eaten inside and out, weekday and weekend, and enjoyed every time, so cannot rate it highly enough. Thankyou Simon and team, it's always a pleasure to visit.

Amazing Sunday roast, can not recommend enough. Super roast potatoes and succulent meats. Great service and even Asahi larger on draft!!! Best pub in the area by an absolute mile.

Excellent food at a very reasonable price, and my family was made very welcome. Added bonus were the group of classic military bike enthusiast who had stopped by, my grandson loved them.

Quite disappointing really , had a chicken pie pastry far too thick , filling poor offcuts no chunky bits , veg nearly cold and so hard you could barely get a knife through it , also if you get a chicken pie shouldn’t it have a chicken gravy ( instead of meat ) sweet nice but overall for the top end price not good

Run by capable and affable women, it's a shame not to have had dinner here, the place promised well. In fact, the breakfast was freshly prepared with what you wanted... really kind!!

The food here is outstanding and consistely so. Bar staff are always friendly and welcoming. The courtyard garden is very pretty and the outside eating area, under cover, is very welcome on sunny days.

We had had a tiring drive and just wanted somewhere for a simple lunch, and it was nearly 2pm. We were greeted really warmly, and not hurried to make choices. When I asked about a glass of the house white I was offered a taste before deciding! We shared a twice baked cheese soufflé as a starter which was just gorgeous. And mains were good too. I just wish we lived nearer, it was a lovely experience!

Shown to our room The Ralphy on arrival which was in the converted barn across car park. Room very pleasant with nice bathroom and walk in shower. Had dinner twice in pub restaurant which was just delicious! Very talented chef. Slept well after previous hotel as very quiet in room even though it was on top of car park and outside seating. Breakfast included in rate, also very nice and well cooked with local bacon and sausages. A very well placed pub with rooms situated in a lovely small village within easy reach of Lacock plus gorgeous National Trust garden The Courts only minutes walk away. The young staff made us very welcome and would recommend if not staying - just go for the food!

We stopped here for lunch after a visit to the Courts Garden. So glad we did. The pub had a nice atmosphere. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food was excellent. We had the Pie. It was really tasty. Nice vegetables too. A shame we had no room left for dessert as I’m sure they would have been just as good.

Absolutely fabulous place, one of the best breakfasts I've had in years. Excellent location for staying while sightseeing in Bath.

Cannot recommend highly enough. Room was very spacious, bed extremely comfortable, shower great, shamed many hotels. The food was out of this world. Staff all extremely polite and friendly. Wish we had been able to stay another night.

Our daughter and son in law booked for us all to have a meal here on a recent visit to them. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and very polite staff, nothing was too much trouble. The food was first class, everyone agreed that it was one of the most delicious meals they’d had recently. A couple of us had burgers, one the lamb and mint pie whilst I had the scotch egg starter together with a mixed side salad to make up my own ‘main’. The accompanying sauces were very tasty. My daughter had been before and knew Thursday they usually have a ‘no corkage’ deal and yes, I was able to enjoy my favourite wine Liebfraumilch - absolutely brilliant as you can’t get this in many places these days!

One night stay at The Tollgate, a tidy comfortable and well run operation. Dillis Room clean, some traffic noise but I slept well. Dinner was the highlight-sublime Hake and an excellent Panna Cotta. Knowledgeable and relaxed staff. Recommended.

We stopped here for lunch. The food is standard pub fare, the quality being above average. The atmosphere is bright but relaxed. The service was fairly slow, but not unreasonable. The prices were around what I would expect. I would go back if I was in the same area again.

I took my octogenarian vegetarian mum here for lunch whilst on a day out to see The Courts (National Trust garden very nearby). Really lovely food and friendly service. Recommended.

We happened to come across the Tollgate Inn on our way to The NT Courts Garden. The atmosphere was friendly and warm. The food was served hot and tasty, the menu engaging . The service was excellent and the meal delightful. If we lived nearer we would be frequent customer!

Had a lovely overnight stay for business. The room was a small double but was perfectly sized for just me. Lovely cosy setting in the room. Bathroom did need a bit of love as it is a bit outdated, but everything was clean and the shower heat and strength were fine. Dinner was amazing, not the cheapest pub food but it was worth it for the price. Breakfast was also exceptional quality and very tasty. Only couple of things that made this stay 4 stars instead of 5. My room was overlooking the two mini roundabouts which from 5am onwards meant there was a lot of road noise, I appreciate it's an old building but if you're a light sleeper you will notice it. Also although the breakfast was amazing, it's only served between 8-9am, so for a work trip was a bit late for me as I had to delay my meeting. I would definitely stay again if needed. And if you're in the area looking for a meal, this place is definitely worth visiting!

Mothers Day lunch was excellent. Prompt and friendly service and minimum waiting time. Would highly recommend the Toll Gate.

Was passing through on a Tuesday evening and spotted this pub in the country village of Holt. It has a lovely village community feel as you walk in with the locals enjoying their evening beer. However I was accommodated to a table with no booking in the dining area. The food was incredible, very fresh and well cooked. It is also dog friendly! Highly recommend

The food is delicious, the young lads who serve here very friendly and accommodating. I feel however the two ladies could do better, I’d say average service from both of them. All it takes is that extra smile, friendly chat, little extras that make somewhere exceptional & locals want to go back. Example being I asked for the wine list, the younger waitress said to us ‘it’s nothing I haven’t told you’ never ever assume in customer service. What if I was hard of hearing, what if I didn’t understand her, what if I just wanted to take longer because I wasn’t sure what I wanted, in this case I wanted to see the prices. Evening carried in with this indifference and left us leaving without giving them a tip.

Stayed here on Buisness for 3 nights and it felt more of a holiday than work stop. Food was seriously top notch and service attentive but refreshingly down to earth. I really can't wait for another excuse to visit this wonderful Inn.

Amazing Mother's Day meal with the family. Honestly the best roast I have had in many years, and certainly the best one locally. Rest of the family had a mix of roasts and pub grub. All freshly cooked and truly delicious. Great attentive service, this really is the place to go.

Stayed in Holt for the week and it was spot on, food was beautiful, (I had the steak, partner had the mushroom ravioli), service was very good and the atmosphere was warm including friendly locals. Cannot fault it

Haven't been here for a couple of years but thought we would give it a try after hearing so many of my friends recommend it. So glad we did! Visited on a busy Tuesday night and enjoyed the best meal both my wife and I can remember. We both had The Hale dish was wa absolutely incredible. Fish was cooked to perfection and the dish was well thought through. Dessert was a classic sticky toffee and again was so good. Great atmosphere and attentive friendly service. Both agreed we will be back as soon as we can.

This is one of my favourite places to drop into for lunch or dinner! Lovely setting, roaring log fire, fab staff, great service - and consistently delicious food! Great pub grub, whether its a steaming bowl of homemade soup or fish and chips for lunch - or an amazing dinner dish off their specials board. Simon and his team have a little gem of a local independent business and I am always happy to recommend and more than happy to visit!

Have eaten here several times since moving to Holt. Overall the food is great, but we have suffered very long waits. Have nearly died of thirst in a pub - which is a real pity as the beer is great, just the table service has been hit and miss. Better lately but whilst you want some time to consider what to eat, most people walking into a pub are ready to order drinks in the first couple of minutes. Not a thing here so best to give them your drinks order when they show you to your table - if you wait for them to ask for your drinks order you'd best settle in for a long wait

We've been to the Tollgate twice in the last couple of months, the food was excellent on both occasions, the staff were so helpful and friendly. Thank you all for making us so welcome.

From the moment we stepped through the doors we felt at home. Relaxed but still fun and attentive service made our visit just perfect. Food was fantastic and well thought through. Best roast we have had for a very long time. We will be recommending and returning!

Have heard a lot of good things about this place and it certainly lived up to the hype. Our Christmas work meal was superb, the beef shin was melt in the mouth and I must say the sticky toffee was the best I have ever tasted, seriously yummy! Really glad we live so close and can return again soon.

Underwhelming restaurant experience. I had shin beef which was so dry, it was difficult to digest. Requested extra juis to see if that helped. It didn’t. I left half of the beef . Tried sticky toffee pudding, the spoon struggled to cut through the sponge. Dry. It was clearly reliant on the toffee syrup to make it palletable.

Stayed here for two nights while visiting the area. We found our room to be clean, warm & comfortable despite having sloping ceilings & low beams. Sadly the wifi was poor but we coped!! Breakfast was served in the bar, freshly cooked, piping hot with good quality ingredients & lashings of good coffee. We would return, maybe request a different room & try the evening menu. Thank You for an enjoyable stay.

Everything about our stay here was wonderful. We stayed in the holiday cottage, which was nice and spacious and beautifully decorated. The staff were lovely and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious!! Super close to Bradford on Avon as well as Bath, but nestled in a quiet village. We will be back!

The food at The Tollgate is fantastic! I am Gluten free & the Staff really try to adapt anything on their menu if they can. The atmosphere of The Tollgate is really friendly & family friendly. I would highly recommended it.

We stopped here on a visit to Chalfield Manor and we’re so glad we did. All the food was delicious and well presented and all made from scratch. I had the beef bourgignon and my husband fish cakes. Would love to go again if we’re in the area.

We have stopped at Tollgate on our way to Lacock. My friend who lives near recommended this place for their homemade pies. They had three different fillings on the menu and as we couldn’t decide which one to have, we have ordered all three of them (I know, greedy). We had chicken, beef and game and all of them were absolutely amazing!!!! Apparently they spend hours every morning them and they are all gone by the evening…. Carry on and keep selling your pies! We will be back.

Stopped off half way round the Scarecrow Trail for Sunday dinner. (Annual thing for us) Hadn't booked but our table of 3 was accommodated easily, even with a massive table of about 25 people having just ordered. Food came out in about 25 mins (have waited longer at far less busy places and we were informed before ordering). Food was yum and service was fab. If we don't make it back beforehand... Will see you next year.

What a lovely found! The Tollgate was our first stop on our UK tour and it was absolutely amazing. We have stayed there for two nights in Parsley room which is very beautiful and looks recently renovated. We had a very tasty dinner on Monday night. I had Hake from the special board and my husband had Beef pie with mash potato and vegetables. (Please tell me how you do your mash so smooth). Beautiful, home made food. We have decided to have dinner again on Tuesday night. I went again for another special, Beef bourguignon with Dauphinoise potatoes and my husband had Chicken Caesar Salad. Beef bourguignon was very good, so were the chicken kievs with the salad. What an idea to do it differently. Service was excellent too on both nights. Definitely recommend this place. Next time we are back Tollgate. Thank you for your professionalism!

Visited with my wife on what was a beautiful summers evening. Didn't book but they were super accommodating and foud us a lovely table. The place was buzzing and felt vibrant and fun. The service staff did a great job and even had to deal with quite a rude couple who obviously had no idea that pubs sometimes get busy and the world doesn't revolve around them. Great professionalism guys! We both had chicken pies which were amazing and without doubt the best I have ever had. Highly recommended and we will be back soon.
