We've been here a few times but it is close to family so we went again for Sunday lunch. My wife and I plumped for the whole plaice and wished we hadn't once it arrived. It came with just a couple of little sprigs of broccoli but was smothered in capers which were so salty that my wife couldn't eat hers. I scraped it all clear and did eat the fish but it was such a shame to spoil the fish. My son had the lamb and our daughter the veggie stew both od which were polished off. The sticky toffee puddings were OK and I had the pumpkin cheese cake which was possibly the weirest dessert I've ever had. Biscuit base, sour cheese runny mess on the top with lumps of toffee that were so sticky they were almost imnpossible to chew. Coffee was por. We did get a dessert for free due to the fish but we won't be going back.

I will start be explaining that I am severely disabled (only for context and definitely not looking for sympathy). On a trip back from the New Forest I was desperately looking for a loo and happened upon the Silver Plough and was delighted that I followed the little sign from the A30. Ample parking and (virtually, save for a gentle slope) level access. See me arrive on two sticks someone sprang from their seat and opened the door for me. A wonderfully friendly staff member offered to help me but I said, can I just use the loo first? No issues, bit of a step up and on my return I was asked if I would be dining. At this point my wife joined mem# and we were asked where we would be sitting as it was a wonderfully warm and sunny October afternoon. I said outside and was told that it would be no problem to take our order at a garden table or we could order at the bar, whichever suited us better. Drinks ordered at the bar were swiftly carried to the table of choice with the waitress making sure that I was seated safely. Then it went uphill all the way. We both ordered haddock which was preceded by complimentary bread and oil. The haddock was exceptional, Ahab is probably still looking for the whale that sacrificed itself for lunch! Meaty and flaky in a perfect beer batter with chips, home-made curry and tartare sauces and some really nice minty crushed peas. Service was attentive but unobtrusive, The bill reasonable and the service charge was clearly explained as being equally shared among all staff but not the owners. We WILL be back. A wonderful lunch.

We often go to The Silver Plough for Sunday lunch. Its our local and we are so very lucky that it is. This last Sunday we all tucked into the sirloin of beef with all the trimmings. It was the best ever to date. The portions were so great that we got to take home a doggy bag. Archie and Maxim ( Labradors) have had Sunday lunch on Sunday night and Monday night!! Really excellent food. The best service ever and just a real gem of a place. Thank you so much to the whole team. See you soon. The boys love you too !!

Popped in here for lunch after a visit to Salisbury . Lovely old building , large car park.. but the food was so disappointing. We were given complimentary oil, vinegar and sour dough bread to start while waiting for our main course. We both ordered the Gammon , chips and Eggs and in my option it was not great. Not everyone likes pepper all over their chips. The eggs were fried in butter and tasted very sweet and almost like a pancake, and the gammon , was an inch and half lump of boiled gammon which seemed to have been fried on both sides before serving … the whole meal was so disappointing, we left most of it and we will not be back .

OMG - we visited on the Sunday for a roast - I had lamb and my good lady wife had the beef. Both were sensational, we're not connoisseurs but we know when something is good and this was better than good. We broke with tradition and actually had a starter as well - I had the scotch egg thing (sounds like a meat snack but, trust me, this was divine; I remember saying at the time that they could skip my main altogether if they just brought out another three of them, I'd be done. My lady missus had some smokey fishy thing which she was over the moon with. Also, before that (I've gone in reverse here, haven't I) there was a bit of bread with a saucer of oil and vinegar which sounds ordinary but again, hit all the right taste spots even with my partner's being gluten free which is usually naff. The main courses were incredible. Beef so tender that it melted in her mouth and my lamb, well, no idea what they did to it but it filled me full in stomach and pleasure it was just so yummy I don't really know what else I can say. We didn't have enough room for desert so we took a break of about 24 hours and went back again today. This time we skipped the starter and both had a steak which was delicious and so tender we were thanking our decision to visit again. Missus lady had an ice cream meringue and fruit thing and I went big and long with their chocolate browny sunday which was super special with stuff I've never tasted before and can't really identify. All round super fab food, served by wonderfully friendly people that remembered who we were and when i joked we'd have our usual, the lady told us the drinks we had yesterday down to the one lump of ice and no fruit in the tonic! Very happy and would recommend every time as the number one place to go for top notch food around Salisbury. You will not eat better.

My recent homemade lunchtime with three family members and our three furry companions was simply delightful. The pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the steak with peppercorn sauce. It was cooked to perfection, with the steak being wonderfully tender and juicy, while the peppercorn sauce was an absolute triumph. Each mouthful was packed with flavour, making it a meal to remember. Their presence added a touch of charm and joy to the occasion. I feel incredibly fortunate to have a relative living nearby and I am eagerly looking forward to my next visit. If you’re in the vicinity and have the chance to sample this steak, don’t hesitate—make sure you do! Highly recommended! 🥩✨

My wife and I enjoyed a superb lunch at The Silver Plough today. We both had the Chicken, Leek and Ham pie and found it absolutely outstanding. A ‘proper’ pie and far better than any that you can buy in the shops. Served with Hispi (cabbage) and mash plus a lovely gravy made this a real treat. We followed this with a shared Frangipani served on a poached pear, with roasted oats, almonds and a gorgeous ice cream. Topped the meal off with coffee. The staff and service were great, and the only downside was that we were sat in the ‘barn’ which totally lacks any atmosphere. This room really does need a makeover and spoils the overall result.

An absolute gem of a place. You know what they say, “you don’t miss something until it’s gone”, well, that was the feeling we had from the moment we walked in the door of the Silver Plough, yesterday. That fabulous country pub feeling with a cosy fire, a relaxed ambience and a welcome that makes you want to throw your car keys behind the bar, strap in and whilst away your Saturday afternoon drinking ales and telling tall tales…. We came here with my parents for my father’s birthday lunch. My father and I had the beef, my wife had the lambs liver and my mother had the fish cakes. Every bit of the food was divine, the beef was incredible and the best I have had for a very very long time. Service was impeccable, multiple discreet check ins by the waiting staff and (I think) the lady who was the owner, and who was kind enough to take some pics for us.. even almost capturing my father cracking a smile… 😉 If I had to find fault, it would be that our table candle was mildly wonky, I’d say probably leaning at a degree of about 5 from vertical.. (I suspect my mother for doing that though as she seemed intent on faffing with it 😂) ^^ in jest obvs. The whole experience was incredible, a real step back to when country pubs were done properly, and next time we make the six hour round trip to see the parents, this place will be our go to for some R and R. Well done all of you at the Silver Plough. You should be very proud. All the best, From the family with the mildly grumpy father 😂

Sunday lunch stop off on our way back from Dorset - we had been here before but a long time ago. We booked a table online, and good job too, it was packed later ! We came in out of the wild and windy weather, into a cosy main area, and a warm welcome with lovely candlelit tables ready for us. New staff I suspect for our table, as some things got a bit muddled with our drinks, but smiley and charming still. Be aware that the following is a love letter to the food… ! Husband opted for the squash and falafel roast option, and was asked on a return visit from our server whether he wanted a vegan or vegetarian version of that meal - it is excellent to find a chef and kitchen that cooks their own food from scratch and appreciates and can alter the dish to make the difference. He only wanted a meat-free lunch and was delighted with his choice, especially because it came with all the trimmings, so he didn’t feel the plate envy he usually gets at a Sunday Roast lunch. Looking at our meals we were excited to tuck in ! I ordered the slow braised lamb shoulder, so tender you could eat it with a spoon, full of flavour and enhanced by the mint sauce. The generous portions of fresh veggies were perfect, so many different ones your favourite was sure to be there, crisp Yorkshire pud and golden, properly roasted potatoes. We were so full we almost couldn’t eat pudding but fried rice pudding tempted our curiosity ! We shared what turned out to be dainty, crisp arancini made with unmistakably rice pudding, wrapped around a gooey little dark chocolate middle. All served with black cherry sorbet and a few perfect and delicious blackberries to offset the sweetness - heavenly ! We will be back, and bring friends, because food this good should be shared!

We followed the brown sign on the main road on a whim and are extremely glad that we did. Fabulous genuine old pub with a warm welcome, cosy atmosphere, log burner, great range of beers and other drinks. Good parking. Lots of outdoor as well as indoor tables to choose from. The food? Fabulous to look at and better to eat.

Beautiful pub, feels cosy as soon as you walk in, love the snug area and the pub was full of drinkers and people dining mid week. Staff were attentive and the manager, well she made sure we had a lovely evening. Food was great, as expected with Chickpea. Looking forward to coming back on a Sunday for a roast!

Nice refurbishment. Staff friendly. Wine expensive. Beer average local prices. Food variable in quality. 12.5% pre selected gratuity excessive. More restaurant than pub. Very clean.

The best roast I have had eating out! There are some really good ones locally but this is the best. Lovely fresh veg, perfect roast potatoes and a huge Yorkshire pudding. I had the veggie roast (with meat gravy lol), it was a squash with a nice nutty filling. My partner had the beef roast which was 3 big slices and perfectly cooked meat with all the trimmings. It felt warm and cosy with the log burners on the go and candles on the table. Will probably book for next weekend :)

I don’t write this review with ease, because it’s actually such a shame to be writing it. I’ve visited the Silver Plough regularly for a roast dinner over the last 8 years, and lord knows how many management changes there has been. The one constant has been that you could rely on a good size portion of great roast dinner at a reasonable price. Today, the service was BY FAR, the best I’ve had, the staff seemed so much less stressed than previously and seemed happy to be there. The service was FAULTLESS! However, despite the dinner being tasty, and the portions good (not as big as some previous) I was GOBSMACKED at the price. Once you add on the 12.5% service charge it’s over £25 a roast. And that’s before a drink or any other course. i’m not saying I expected it to be a tenner or for there to have been no price changes given the current state of the world, but I can’t help but notice I also couldn’t find a menu online when I looked before booking, so had no idea of the new prices. I’ve booked a table and I can’t exactly just walk in anywhere else nearby on a Sunday. I am very sad to say, that unless there’s some very special occasion, I doubt I’ll be returning. And that really does pain me to write.

Best roast lamb I've ever had. The meat was plentiful and soo tender, the roast potatoes crispy and very tasty, along with the veg and meat gravey. Yum Cosy place, good friendly and accommodating service.

Food OK. Menu poor, not enough choice, unacceptable vegetarian options (1 choice each) puddings basic pub grub and all much too expensive. 12.5% service included, what happened to 10%?

Beyond disappointing. Sad that this used to be a wonderful place to eat but has gone down over the years. Had family visit from America and wanted to have them experience an English pub. Food was inedible with questionable looking meat. They couldn’t say where they sourced the burger meat. Worst meal I’ve had in a restaurant.

We used to use the Silve Plough regularly when we lived in Salisbury and decided to go again last bank holiday Monday. They used to do excellent, proper, home cooked pub food (pies to die for and the best sticky toffee pudding we have ever had), and some days, you were lucky to get a table. Not so now. They presumably thought that bank holidays would be quiet as we were offered a very basic, almost insulting, "bank holiday menu." The outside tables were dirty, and the bin in the toilet was still full from the day before. We took the trouble to have a look at some of the latest reviews and we wished we had done this before as we wouldn't have taken the trouble to drive back there. We didn't eat and tried to get into 3 of our favourite haunts in Stockbridge on the way home, which serve excellent food every day, and we couldn't get in, not a table to spare. I think the Silver Plough needs to take a serious lesson here. Get it right, and you have a queue to your door. We won't be back, and judging by the lack of clientele on a warm sunny bank holiday, I think many people think the same.

Staff are extremely welcoming & friendly. The Sunday roast is obviously a massive hit - will be returning to try this out! On this particular occasion, we stopped for some chips and a pint after a fantastic 10km walk. Definitely worth the visit. The establishment looks modern & tastefully decorated. 10/10 from us!

Sunday lunch, the place was empty. Tables were sticky. Ordered a roast which consisted of one thick slice of chicken, a soggy Yorkshire pudding, an inch of stuffing and veg which didn’t taste fresh. Overpriced and disappointing.
