The Tobermory Hotel Restaurant in Argyll & Bute

Popped in for a bite to eat. Spotted the langoustines on the menu and had to have them. The food was excellent and the staff were very attentive.

This is more an inn with rooms than a hotel. The staff were lovely and breakfast was great. There is a nice bar but no room to relax if the bar is busy. Great location on the Main Street.Dog friendly.

A wonderful evening with jovial staff and great Beer.

Took friends to dinner here. Excellent menu choices, delightful attentive staff and food was simply delicious. Have now visited more than once and recommend without hesitation.

Without doubt the best hotel in Tobermory. Lovely setting, super clean and relaxing atmosphere. Excellent restaurant and friendly bar. Most of all wonderful staff who advised on local tours and even saved us with a ride to the ferry when our car broke down. Many thanks 🙏 See you again soon!

Such a bright friendly greeting and great convivial atmosphere really made this an ideal place to enjoy excellent food. The Cullen Skink was perfect, the abundant gambas beyond sublime, enhanced by a generous touch of chili, ginger and coriander in their pot of garlic butter. Faultless cooking and presentation, this was a wonderful lunch. Big shout out for the delightful young lady from Ballymena who greeted, served and brought enthusiasm and genuine warmth to the place. Well done and thank you.

From the moment we walked into the restaurant we were warmly greeted by the staff and made to feel at home. The ambiance was perfectly cozy for a family gathering. The menu had wonderful selections of meat and seafood. All the dishes were delicious and perfectly prepared. The staff were attentive and made sure our experience was perfect. And it was.

Excellent stop-off for a pint. Very kind and welcoming staff. They even posted my hat back to my home address having left it behind. Highly recommend.

Stayed at their Greenbank cottage. Excellent set up with great views and facilities.

We had 2 nights booked by our travel agent but cancelled after the first night. The room and bathroom were subpar; tiny, noisey and very uncomfortable bed! Food was ok but slow.

Wow! We were so thrilled with The Tobermory Hotel. My husband and I got married on the isle of Mull last week and hosted the after-ceremony dinner at the hotel restaurant. Their team was so accommodating, down to every last detail! The menus were customized and napkins folded in the shape of bride and groom. Our guests cannot stop raving about the quality of the food, service and ambience of this place. Our wedding night was spent at the hotel and the room worked out perfectly for us - waking up to the sunrise on the bay. Thank you to Emma and team for making this such a memorable night for us!

What a great place for a drink ! The bar area has a great atmosphere and the staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. Within minutes we were having conversations with the two bar staff and locals which was very entertaining and informative. We hadn’t planned on having food but as we had a table in the bar (the restaurant was full) we asked if we could eat there and it was the same menu as the restaurant. We had Ham Hock to start followed by Steak and Chicken Balamory all washed down with a bottle of red. This was followed by Chocolate Oblivion! The food and service was so good we returned for drinks and dinner 3 times during our week in Tobermory. Can’t wait until next year when we will back !

Very difficult to tell exactly what makes a place as good as this…….it’s not just the excellent food or the excellent friendly staff or the decor or something else that’s hard to define but whatever it is the restaurant at the Tobermory Hotel has it in spades. We arrived soaked through after a short walk from our hotel on a dreadful evening, we were seated at an ‘intimate’ table next to the fire where we could dry off and immediately made to feel welcome. The food was excellent, the ambiance excellent and the staff excellent. It’s not the worlds cheapest place but it’s very good, you get what you pay for etc etc. Can highly recommend, if you visit Tobermory go there, you won’t regret it.

What a superb place to spend the evening. When we arrived two large-ish groups had just arrived and our host informed us of this and said our food may take a bit longer. Fantastic managing of expectations! As it turned out the timing was absolutely fine. We had the Camembert to share as a starter, which was gorgeous - the chutney which came with it was properly yummy. We then had the haggis and seabream , which were both delicious. They also had a good selection of wines and drinks. The menu had so much choice it was hard to choose what to go for. All looked amazing the team were so professional and made us feel very welcome. Would recommend for sure.

We really enjoyed our stay! Super food and the room was great. Location is right on the Main Street opposite the harbour, perfect. Staff were very friendly. We’d recommend it.

After walking around this place seemed the most suitable, and wasn’t disappointed. Staff incredibly friendly and personable, especially the waitresses. The fish and chips were amazing, great portion size and well cooked. The lobster was beautiful and salad plentiful. We were seated immediately and at £54 for a couple of oysters, two mains and a drink, found the cost reasonable. You certainly get what you pay for here. No desserts but they looked lovely as they came out for other customers. Would definitely visit again.

Visited for lunch and had the Cullen skink which was truly delicious, - compliments to the chef husband had fish and chips, unfortunately no kids menu however son had a panini and chips, attentive staff, nice atmosphere, and surroundings.

Fantastica location sulla colorata Main Street. Locale pulito e ordinato, personale sorridente, gentile e disponibile. Il pesce è freschissimo e cucinato con cura. Ottime le cozze al whisky, le capesante, l’halibut al forno e il fish&chips è il migliore che abbiamo mai mangiato in UK. Buona la scelta di whisky. È meglio prenotare. Noi siamo arrivati senza prenotazione, il locale era pieno, ma la titolare ci ha proposto un tavolo nella zona bar. Siamo stati comunque benissimo. Bella atmosfera. I clienti vengono accolti fino a tardi.

After our Staffa boat trip and returning around 5pm we wanted some refreshments and found this place with welcoming bar and lounge area plus a super dinner. Was impressed and would certainly return if back on Mull.

Does not stock local ale. We went in after seeing a handwritten blackboard on the street outside. The sign said ‘local ales’ served here. We asked and the lady said they had no ale at all but that they had not had time to change the blackboard since the local brewery shut. I think the local brewery shut in 2010, so this seems surprising. I do not know why they have a sign on the street advertising local ale when they have absolutely none.

It's quite hard to reserve anywhere to eat at short notice in Tobermory as it's such a busy place. However, the Tobermory managed to fit us in. The food is very good & the presentation excellent. Portion size is very generous we struggled to finish our mains after having a starter. The mussels in red curry & coconut milk were delicious. Service was friendly & efficient. We were so pleased with our meal we booked for the next evening.

Absolutely delicious! As we were staying at the hotel, we decided to try the restaurant one of the night. I ate the mussels with cream which were so fresh and the sauce was delicious. We decided to also have desserts and the baked vanilla cheesecake with salted caramel sauce was incredible. The staff were friendly, the decor is very cosy. Would recommend.

I had dinner here 3 nights in a row. The food is full of flavour. Leo made me feel welcome as a line dinner and was on point with his service.

£6 a pint and rude staff, diabolical for today's standards. Verbatim: "Hello, how are you?" ... No verbal reply... "Do you have any bitter?" "None" "Pink lemonade, please" Turns around... "Anything else?" "So that was there is no bitter?" "We close tomorrow, there's no point" It doesn't matter - if you are open be polite, explain the limitations and treat your customers well - they are paying for a service. Wouldn't stop here again.

lousy restaurant. Can only talk about the food they served me. Very expensive, they try to make the place look posh but the food they serve is the worst I've eaten. I basically threw my money in the air and was left with a bad aftertaste. The hake fish was swimming in a ketchup soup liquid, the scallops tasted of nothing and the pinot grigio was the only time in my life that i could not drink it. I think this place is a rip off that counts on the fact they will never see the same customers again. The staff was friendly and this is the only reason I reported how bad the food was after I had paid.

We have eaten at the Tobermory Hotel restaurant many times but something has changed drastically with this establishment. And NOT for the better. From the moment we arrived we were left standing in the doorway while staff chatted over the top of their masks while making customers drinks. All of the fish and seafood we ordered was overcooked and the portion of soggy Hake at £20 was no bigger than a fish finger. We left feeling utter disappointed (and hungry) that one of our favourite places to eat in Mull could of sunk so low. Other customers were also complaining about portion sizes. After asking for the bill the staff member return to his chat at the bar with his mask half off and ignored our request. An expensive mistake, take your money and go anywhere else.

Food was great but the service was diabolical. Waiter / restaurant manager with the half pony was rude, threw down the menus, grabbed them back, ignored us.The woman at the table next was trying to talk to him and he said great and walked away. Worth it for the location, price, and the food but be prepared to have to deal with him…

Loved this hotel. Brilliant position right by the water. Our room was not huge but was so nicely decorated that it felt cosy rather than cramped. Bed was comfy. Good facilities with tea tray, dressing gowns, hairdryer etc. Bathroom modern with big shower. Unfortunately there was almost zero water pressure which was disappointing. We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel, but breakfast was excellent. The buffet was extensive with lots of fresh fruit, freshly baked pastries, small pots of delicious yogurt with fruit. The coffee was excellent. The cooked breakfast was good and the porridge was the nicest I have tasted in Scotland so far! The only thing I don’t understand is the slightly bizarre range of reviews. I wonder if there is a’review war’ happening in Tobermory, as lots of hotels and restaurants seem to have very bad reviews, often written by reviewers who have written very few other reviews (possibly fake accounts??) Don’t be put off, this is a great place to stay.

We were a walk in to the restaurant at a late hour and we were kindly allowed to dine. The staff were very friendly and accommodating concidering the circumstances.

Arrived at the Tobermore hotel for a meal. First they said yes they had a table and come along in 10-15mins, then when you arrive at the restaurant, they turn you away. What a bunch of useless disorganized staff! It s not worth even trying...

Non Resident visiting the restaurant. Callous and arrogant waiters - the waitresses were fine. My meal featured stale bread, rubbery seafood and sauce like sump oil. I love Mull and Tobermory but I will never return to this establishment.

We booked a table for food here after receiving exceptionally friendly service from a waitress (Lucy) while having a drink in the outside area. We were not disappointed. Good food and excellent attentive service.

Had lovely fresh fish while looking over the bay. Exceptional service from the assistant manager. Anyone training in hospitality should visit and watch her at work! A delightful personality, aware of what is going on at all times and with local knowledge. Thank you for a perfect experience.

My wife and I had no choice but to eat in the hotel as all other excellent restaurants in Tobermory were fully booked. We went for fish dishes as it was advertised as fresh every day. Fish was oily and overcooked with thick oily skin....

Not what I would call a boutique hotel. Room was dated, small, shower that trickled and bed was not very comfortable. Breakfast was great as was the food at night. Not worth the room charge per night I'm afraid....

Great location on sea front and very good service with a tranquil ambience

A really disappointing evening. Not sure where to begin, but probably worth saying this is the only place in Mull where we had a negative experience in the week we were here. The service was chaotic to say the least, wrong food being served, mains arriving an hour after starters, cold food being served, drinks taking way longer than necessary. We were told that the reasons behind the delays/bad food were due to the restaurant being busy, but we had been booked in a for a couple of days and I don't think this is ever a valid excuse. Service wasnt charged and they took the cold meal off the bill, but the whole experience was awful and ridiculously overpriced. If you're looking for good service and good food then avoid the Tobermory Hotel - you'll get neither here and there are much better options available in Tobermory!
