Great Restaurant. The food was fantastic. The place itself was unique and fun to look around. The staff was nice and polite. They all worked as a team, so we were seated and served very quickly. Cilantto Lime Chicken is phenomenal. Overall, it was a great, well run place.

Best all around dining option in the area. Salads are 100% a must get.

10/10 in every way possible. Food, service, atmosphere - it was all amazing. Loved the gluten free menu and the extra care they took to avoid cross contact.

This was my first time and everything was absolutely amazing!!!!

The pros: service here is great, staff is friendly and prompt; love the trivia/brain teaser cards on the table and the quotes on the walls; huge menu with lots of options plus a full bar; got the toasted almond coffee with Kahlua and it was good, albeit not very warm. The cons: food is just ok, I got the harvest salad with shrimp, and the apples on it were bad, plus the shrimp were a little smelly but tasted fine. The bread rolls were delicious, but the cornbread was subpar (both came free of charge). Husband got the pot roast meal and said it was just ok. We wouldn't go again, there are so many other great options in the area.

We were a group of 7 and we added 3 extra guests with ease (they were coming from out of town and got in sooner then expected) the manager came over and was easily able to accommodate 3 extra chairs. Not only that but their food came out so fast. Everything was delicious!

The waitstaff was attentive and efficient, my lunch, fish and chips, was delicious. The fish coating was crisp, fish tender and moist. Fries and coleslaw perfect.

Everything about this place is a winner! I had eaten here on a previous visit when catching up with an old friend. Honestly, I didn't pay much attention because we were talking so much. On this visit to Williamsburg, I dined here with other friends. While we also had much to discuss, I was more aware of my surroundings (fun!) and food (fabulous). From the bread to the entree (Crab-a-Bella) to the service, everything was outstanding. Food for Thought hits five stars in every category!

Oh my goodness! After our day trip to bushgardens and shopping we decided to stop here for dinner & we were so impressed. My husband got ribs & I got the salmon. He said his ribs were the best he had in a very long time! I really enjoyed the apple slaw on the salmon and my blood orange martini. It's hard to find a decent restaurant these days when we go out, so we were just so pleased! We will be back on our next visit!

People with allergies or high intolerances- CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!! 🤩😍🤩😍🤩 All of the food was absolutely superb, as someone who can't eat dairy, soy, eggs or gluten, I rarely eat good food at restaurants. They were so kind and accommodating. Emily, our server when out of the way to help. And dessert!!!! 🤩🤩🤩 Seriously! To die for. If we're ever back in the area we'll definitely be back. It's pricey but so very very worth it. 💗💗💗

Very cute themed restaurant, great service and the food is very tasty! We had lunch sized rib and crab cake, would highly recommend both, the crab cake is FILLED with lumps of crab meat and rib is fall off the bone tender.

We had our best dinner in Williamsburg here. Delightful staff, delicious food, fair pricing. A must do when visiting here

I have to say this is my favorite restaurant in town. The customer service is A1 the food has never disappointed me. The wait is worth it.

Delicious! The food and cocktails were delicious, and the staff were so friendly. Fun conversation cards on the tables and a special St. Patrick’s Day menu (including a vegan Reuben sandwich) made the experience even better.

Have eaten here many times over the years, the food is quite decent. Unfortunately the owner has horrific labor practices due to some truly unhinged libertarian beliefs, and despite fines and other consequences seems to have not learned his lesson. We will not be going back as a result.

The food was outstanding and the service from Gilbert was probably the best I have had in years. Stopped in with a colleague. The dining room was immaculate and had such friendly atmosphere. The cheese rolls were great — sweet potato cornbread was good, but had nothing on the cheesy rolls! We started with the ribs appetizer. They were amazing and the portion was generous. My guest had the pot roast which was appealing, but I had the Parmesan crusted chicken with a creamy sauce and crushed pistachios. It was truly unique and amazing. Their side of the day was grilled zucchini—if I could grill it like that, oof! Definitely the place to check out if you are in the area, you won’t be disappointed!!

We were told this restaurant won't the best restaurant in Williamsburg 10-15 years running and we don't doubt it. Their food was amazing and incredibly fast. We waited about 20 minutes for a table, but once we were seated our server was great. Had our kids meals out with our appetizer and ours were not far behind. It was maybe 10 minutes before we all had our meals. Had the Shrimp potatoes skins, crab chowder, port-a-crab and their pad Thai with chicken. It was all fantastic. Also tried their seasonal sangria, excellent.

Food was great but the waitstaff seems like they are looking for a different type of customer. I came alone and had the pot roast. I was practically rushed out. Then, it seemed to be an inconvenience that I decided to finish off my rewards card and pay the remaining balance on my credit card. Didn’t feel welcome here, food was good though.

This is a very unique restaurant for many reasons. The name is also the main theme of the restaurant. They inspired us with quotes from history's greatest advocates of freedom and liberty in the world. The gift shop has tee shirts and books that feature historically significant people like Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan, Winston Churchill, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams and more. The service is impeccable, the food is high quality, well prepared, and prices are still reasonable. The menu is extensive and entertaining. The featured dinner drinks are excellent and the drink list is extensive. It's my favorite in the area and in the top two with my wife. Stop by for a unique experience and stay for a great meal.

Couldn't ask for a better experience. The manager and our waiter were very professional. The menu was very diverse with choices, and the food was great. I very much recommend this place.

Always a great experience. The menu is expansive and there are plenty of gluten free and vegetarian options. I would be happy just eating the rolls and cornbread that they bring to the table beforehand.

The ppl sitting directly behind me allowed their kid to jump & kick behind our seat, causing our entire booth seat to shake while feeling the impact of someone kicking us in the back. I informed our waiter, tho friendly, the issue was ignored. Very bad experience. If u can't get a table that's not on top of other ppl, eat somewhere else. I will request a more open table that seats 4 next time, should I choose to give them another try.

This is such a warm, friendly place. Our waitress Heather was friendly and efficient. The owner came to our table and greeted us. The food was simply sublime. I had a strawberry lemon drop martini. I thought the prices were very reasonable. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm in Williamsburg!

This place completely surprised me! They were on point from the moment we walked in. We were seated quickly, and we got our drinks fast. Food was ordered and came out fast, with a beautiful presentation. It looked like it tasted good, and when I put it in my mouth. All I could say was thank you, Lord, for this food I just received. Did I mention that the waiter was on point, too!!! I can't wait to go there next time I'm in town!!! : )

Our waiter was fine. No complaints. The food was extremely mediocre. Certainly not worth the hype. Additionally, the decor is littered with libertarian propaganda. Suffice to say we won't return.

Great food options. Gluten-free menu! Staff is very aware of food restrictions. The manager has always come out to greet and answer questions and see if everything is as hoped. We are never disappointed. I have to be Gluten-free, dairy free, mammal-free. The chef can also adjust some entrees as needed. Don't forget they also have a wonderful bar and creative Bartenders. I love mid afternoon when it is not so busy. Opens at 11am.

The food was great i wish i took pictures. Drinks were also really good. But the reason I'm giving 5 stars is because of our server Gilbert. He was phenomenal. Let me start out by saying I generally don't "love" random people or call them phenomenal but I loved him!! Not only was he very helpful with the menu but he had an amazing personality. He was so genuine and down to earth and we all truly feel blessed and honored we crossed paths. If I ever have the pleasure of coming back to this place I hope he still works there. My mom my sister and I went there for the gluten free options the appetizer salad dinner and desert were all fantastic. We had so much fun and felt so comfortable. Thank you for your impeccable service! Highly recommend!

We sat at the bar as it was busy (understandably). The bartender that took care of us was on top of everything. We ordered the steak with the chimichurri butter. It was cooked perfectly and the flavor was on point. We also ordered the jerk chicken light fair. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a jerk sauce to go with it.

This place is awesome. Great food Great prices, great service. Whole family got something they really wanted and had a great time with the though cards for dinner discussion.

This place is a gem! My family is vegan/gluten free and it did not disappoint! Service was amazing too. You don’t see well loved classic restaurants like this anymore. On top of that the owner is clearly a past life Benjamin frankin or something. Very interesting thoughts to observe while you enjoy your food . . . I highly recommend!

The BEST fried oysters!! Light & crisp. Yummy beets with orange butter (my choice for a side). Waitress was great - brought me a sample of the wine before I ordered it.

Our food was exceptional! The oysters were cooked perfectly and the people were really sweet and respectful. Levi was a wonderful waiter and was very informative with menu options. Definitely going back !!

Everything we ate was average at best. The place is criminally expensive for what they serve. $12 for bread pudding dessert.. couldn’t believe my eyes when I was brought the bill. Save yourself some time and money and pass on this over hyped establishment.

Perfect place to go on vacation. Went here while we're visiting colleges in the area for our kids. Loved the concept. I'm vegetarian so appreciated the menu options. Had a plant-based crab cake special that I had the sandwich option. Had a sort of tangy sauce that was great. Perfect portion size with plenty of interesting sides, which I got corn/peas. Wife's birthday was the day and asked staff secretly to do something and they put a candle on a creme brulee that is my wife's favorite. Staff would be 6 stars if I could rate them. Patient, knowledgeable and attentive. I think it gets crowded during busy season, no wait for us.

4 ⭐️ This place was fun. They have cards on the table for you to ask each other stuff. The service was amazing. I feel like teachers would absolutely love this place 🤣 I got the Tuscany Grilled Chicken with a side Caesar salad and it was amazing! The tomato was NOT soggy 🙌🏾 we were going to a movie after so this was the perfect lunch to not have me super sleepy during the movie. My husband got the fried shrimp platter with skinny fries and broccoli. Honestly he didn’t like the shrimp sauce at the restaurant. But he look leftovers home, and he said it tasted better later 🤣 I’m not sure what that was about. But he said his shrimp alone was really good. I would definitely go back to try dinner here. I thought the restaurant and service was great, and I definitely recommend this restaurant👍🏾

My family had a wonderful time at Food For Thought during the busy holiday period. We were a group of 15 and they treated us unbelievably well. No issues with service or food quality. Plus, the question cards, the "food for thought", were a lot of fun. Hope to visit again next time I'm in Williamsburg.

Good food, relaxed atmosphere, good price point. You will probably have to wait for a table, no reservations but worth it.

We and our friends had lunch and dinner here. Can’t say enough about the place. Hostesses were very friendly, as were the severs. Employees are very well trained to provide excellent, courteous service. The food is high quality. They do not take reservations so get there early. You won’t be disappointed.

This place was great!! It was very busy, so since we were are party of 2, we sat at the bar, great atmosphere and drinks! I got the steak and it was fantastic. Absolutely great atmosphere and staff, will be back again! Every time I mention this place to someone that has been there agrees with just how good it is, check it out!

Favorite dinner restaurant in Williamsburg!

I've been here a few times and am always satisfied. Tempted to knock a star off for "atmosphere" but only because it's very crowded getting in and popular with the tourists. Once you're seated, however, the tables are roomy and well spaced and interesting conversation starter cards are on the table. It's nice, especially if you are retired or semi retired and basically have run out of conversation with other. We recently received a gift card which brought us back here. I had the filet mignon with crab cake and my two sides were mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. All on my plate were delicious. It was a cold night so I had a Hot Buttered Apple Cider with Capt Morgan. Rather sweet, but hit the spot. We split a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream that appeared to be home made. Service was quick, and friendly without feeling fake. When my plate was delivered I was asked to cut it and make sure it was how I liked it ... it was! We may put Food for Thought back into our rotation, but probably during the brief "off season" here in Williamsburg. (They don't take reservations, but a "call ahead" will shorten your wait. See their website for how that works.)

Great portion for the price. Enjoyed the grab-a-bella. Parking is tough, over-flow parking is at Ripley's parking lot.

This is the first place my very picky 10 year old has raved about. He got the baked salmon from the kid’s menu- and then asked if we could come back bc this is the first place where he was excited to try all the other stuff on the kids menu! This is huge - but not only that - our dishes were also amazing. My husband and I both got the filet and it was cooked perfectly! The waiter even asked us to cut into it just ensure it was cooked to our liking- a small touch but we literally never experience this sort of service. And lastly - the prices are extremely reasonable for the level of service and quality here. Highly recommend this place!

We dined NYE. Our server was delightful. Our food was delicious. Even though we ordered our appetizers at the same time as our entrees, they arrived quickly and before our main dish. My main food was the yin Yang salmon. I highly recommend it. Everything was hot that should be. I also got the flour less cake and it was amazing.

Beyond doubt, these were the best crab cakes I have ever had in my entire life. Actual quality ingredients, delicate on the seasoning. The service was prompt and courteous. 10/10 will visit again.

Stopped by when we arrived in the area for vacation. Very impressed and happy with this choice. Hopefully get to stop by again before we leave really want to try the apple nachos. I had Best of both Worlds and my husband had the Salmon.

Ok so I originally ordered the salmon. The smell when they brought it out made me sick. They were very good about taking it back and I had the special vegetarian stuffed acorn squash that was spectacular, as were the ribs we shared! My husband loved loved his meatloaf and pot roast( the family reunion).The seasonal drinks were fantastic as was the beer flight. Total cost around 130 .

Honestly I'm surprised by all the good food reviews, this place is has a cool environment for sure and our waitress was so sweet and just wonderful, but the food was so terrible and for the price it was so disappointing, I didn't have the heart to say anything cuz they were so nice but the food we got was basically inedible it was so bad and I never write bad reviews but It was just that bad !

Amazing food and atmosphere. The manager, Edwin came to our table to check on everything. and was so nice and genuine. Brandon, our waiter was attentive and very personable. The food exceeded our expectations! We only had about a 15 minute wait and trust me ...it's worth any wait that you have!
