The Gallery Cafe in Argyll & Bute

We ordered a breakfast bun and a filled bagel, the egg was hard, the bread roll was stale however the bagel was good. Train your staff and watch your reviews rise, maybe aim for excellence instead of mediocrity. Partners review : Ordered a breakfast bun with egg and a potato scone. On attempting to tackle my breakfast with vigour, (after an enthusiastic and hunger-inducing 4km walk to the lighthouse and back), I was left disappointed. The bun, I imagined had sat lonely for a long time, forgotten in the dark recesses of the bread bin. By the time it was fished out, bought into the light and topped with a hard egg, it was a pitiful, stale offering. Never before have I found myself feeling sorry for my food!

Called for breakfast as my friend and myself did last year. Young girl aboutv16 behind the counter along with another girl I believe to be older. I wanted a breakfast in on a plate as normal but all I was offered was individual items ie bacon bread roll black pudding. I asked fo haggis and beans but they did not have beans or mushrooms. Each item was £1.00. I could not get my head round that they could not call it a breakfast but just a roll with these items . A few minutes later the meals appeared without the haggis. They looked bewildered when I asked whete the haggis was. The egg must have been fried ages ago as the yoke had gone hard. Eventually after 90% of the meal had been eaten the haggis appeared. 2 pieces when I only asked for one. I think the two staff want a lesson in customer services as I was not impressed and certainly will not be returning.

Service not good. As tourists made us feel most unwelcome.

This is a good informal lunch place, you can sit outside at the front of this converted church, overlooking the bay. Food was good and quick, service friendly.

Well located on the seafront at Tobermory and in a converted church, we enjoyed breakfast here before heading further afield around the island. Good food and friendly staff.

Breakfast here is a bit poor, the sausages and bacon seem to be deep fried. Service is polite but a very slow. It's also cold, I can imagine they don't heat it because it would cost a fortune being such a large space.

Lovely spot for lunch. Attentive staff. Popped in with 2 small kids as a family of 4. Youngest is dairy free and gluten free which was brilliantly catered for and adaptions made. Relaxed atmosphere, welcoming of families and a lovely building.

Not going to say anything about the glorious glass. Work,, find out for yourself 🙂

Great service and nice food arrived promptly even though they were busy and short staffed

A very special place that impressed me especially through the church window. However, I also liked the fact that there was WiFi. ;)

Food was very bland , watery and tasteless, reminded us of a school canteen , service was very long. ÎAnd very expensive for what we got ! Would not go there again , would prefer a quick snack outside

Had to wait a long time for a sandwich and soup which were absolutely appalling. The soup was watery and tasteless and reminded me of what you would get in a hospital and the sandwich was made with the cheapest and thinnest ham and industrial slices of cheese . What a disgrace !

What lovely little spot for lunch.We sat outside on a glorious day and enjoyed the spectacular view. Service was very friendly, had a lovely sandwich and an ice cold cider. No pressure to rush our drinks . The building is beautifully converted church and toilets were modern and clean. Lots of bowls of water for dogs were also available

Nice place but food lacked favour. I had the dish of the day, pasta with tomato sauce, sausage and bacon which reminded me of bad student cooking. Service was friendly and it was nice to sit outside in the sun.

Obwohl wir keine Reservierung hatten für das Abendessen (wir waren erst eine Stunde vorher mit der Fähre in Tobermory angekommen und wollten nicht im Hotel essen) und das Restaurant sehr gut besucht war, wurde es möglich gemacht vom sehr freundlichen Personal, dass wir einen Tisch hatten. Das Dinner war qualitativ hochwertig und sehr lecker. Die Atmosphäre im Restaurant aufgrund der Räumlichkeiten und des guten Service zum Wohlfühlen. Auf unserer 10tägigen Rundreise durch Schottland eines des besten Restaurants die wir besucht haben.

Lovely cafe in beautiful building. The coffee was really good quality. Two vegan cakes to choose from! The biscoff cake was delicious. Staff are helpful and cheery.

Very expensive for what you get

Good option for breakfast in Tobermory. Nice staff and delicious pancakes. It's not exactly cheap. The restaurant is located in a former church and has something special about it.

Poor customer service and offering. Staff appear to have no clue about their own menu or who ordered what. My food was dry and poor quality.

Really not great. The service from the lady in glasses was just rude. She didn't have time to respond to our hello, she asked if we were eating, we replied we were not and she removed the paper menus and left. She then went to talk to her friends at another table for 5 minutes, whilst her younger colleagues struggled to keep up with orders and table clearing. Overall the place feels unloved, cheap and just surviving off the location and tourism.

Awesome place to grab a coffee and a sarnie. The smoked salmon sandwich was lovely and the cheeseboard gave a great selection (could have a couple more oak cakes though) Service was friendly and efficient, the cafe is kept very clean and tidy. Great Cafe, great food, great staff!

We arrived just after lunch with our pooch, very attentive staff towards us and our dog. Cullen Skink was amazing and just the job after a soaking!

Food very poor and service mediocre by inexperienced staff. 1 bowl of soup, very basic sandwich on unappetizing bread, 1 tea and coffee, over £20! The décoré is lovely in a converted church.

I’d love to write a proper review of this cafe, but as they had decided to shut down an hour before the advertised closing time on a Sunday I can’t really tell you what it was like. Very frustrating when a venue advertises being open until 1700, but refuses service after 1600,well, takeaway drinks only were offered, but I fancied a wee sit down and some cake, but it was all tidied away and nothing was available.

So if order something as complex as 2 coffees and 2 slices of cake and are happy to wait half an hour while everyone who comes in after you get served, perfect place. Obviously I assume you are happy to find, despite being given a table number, when you go and ask they’ve forgotten your order!

Interesting place. Friendly staff. Quite disappointed of the ratio between quality of the food and what you actually pay. Burger buns seems to come from factories: we expect them to be homemade for this price range. Fries seemed to be frozen.

Went there for lunch. Positives: dog friendly and good coffee. It stops here. I ordered a vegan wrap with couscous which did not come with couscous and it came with coleslaw that is NOT vegan?! Quite overpriced for the food served. Waiters did not seem to care. The music is so loud in there too, it made the whole meal quite uncomfortable. I do not recommend and would not come back again! It was all so disappointing!

It's ok. Service was slow to non existent from the only lady working the floor. Bless her, she was very polite and had the whole facility to herself while 3 other staff hid in the kitchen/back room and didn't lend a hand to anything else. Food was meh. Honestly, I won't be back.

Why would you keep customers waiting in a queue for a table when there is hardly anyone there ? Well that’s what happened to us, then we waited ages for a menu,,, once our order was placed it arrived quickly which would indicate that there is an issue with not enough waiting staff on the floor. Other customers (there were 10) did not get their orders taken in order of arrival so some had to wait ages for their turn. This restaurant used to be very good unfortunately now the food is not very high standard, there is often not much available ie chocolate cake or chocolate cake & The soup is very watery. The fish was ok but a bit dry & small. Chips etc were great and loads of them. The restaurant lacks atmosphere and is very cold as the doors are always left open ! It’s a huge space to deal with but used to be interesting with the retail items on display throughout the eating area. Hopefully things will all improve as Tobermory needs more places for coffee and cake. Just get people seated quickly, served quickly and you will sell more food and drinks.

Excellent friendly staff and a fine lunch spot

We stopped here whilst waiting for our coach to return us to the ferry so didn’t have a lot of time and only wanted 2 teas and a coffee. The waiter was very friendly and very polite but very inefficient. After we noticed one or two others who had arrived after us getting served before us, we politely reminded him we hadn’t received our drinks yet. He apologised and said ‘they’ were rushed off their feet - not true imo, having worked in a restaurant which seated 400 per night I know what rushed off your feet really means. Just before we enquired about our order, three staff were loitering behind the counter talking to each other, not a sign of being rushed off your feet. A waitress then appeared to take our order! We advised we had ordered and shortly afterwards our drinks arrived. The drinks were quite nice but we nearly fell through the floor when we saw the price of the tea - £4.00 per cup! The coffee was only £2.30, usually tea is less than coffee in the UK. Also, the comment someone else made about the tables was true, all the unreserved tables were covered in sticky drink marks and crumbs.

Happened to notice these guys were open in the evening for cocktails and canapés, cocktails were fabulous and canapés were plentiful, delicious AND free!!! Amazing!

Very interesting place and people

The place looks nice and the people working in it are trying their best. But the food was average and overpriced, I had a food poisoning from it. Hope they will improve but it's a no go for me.

I ate here twice, the first time had a really nice Italian first stew and the second time a burger. The stew was great, really well cooked. The burger was pretty poor with the patty overcooked and the bun very dry. The price of the meals are too high for the quality received.

Excellent converted church setting with a gorgeous selection of vegan food too. The wonderful staff were very friendly and catered for our every need. The food really was delicious. Definitely the best choice for food whilst in Tobermory. I think I actually left a review for "The Galleon Bistro" recently but it was meant to be "The Gallery Restaurant"!! We definitely ate in the church and not the bistro next door but they left a kind reply so I can't delete it... 😊 It's good to promote all businesses like this in an island community.

Lovely surroundings. An old church with stained glass windows. Was really busy lunch but the wait was not too long and well worth it. The food was lovely, fish and chips and the other half had a Parma ham and fig salad. Will return again...

My sister and I had a number of meals and snacks at The Gallery, which is in a former church, during our recent 10-day stay in Tobermory. We were greeted every time by the wonderful Sam. The food is excellent, all the staff are friendly...

We just wanted a quick bite to eat. Had a tuna sandwich which was ok. Nothing fancy which I did not expect anyway. Friendly staff, ok prices for Tobermory i guess. I liked the old church chairs and benches that were used.

I’m sure this was or could be a great place with great food but it is filthy dirty. Stuck to the table when I put my arms down and as for the toilets. Needs a damn good clean.

Big disappointment, and I rarely post negative reviews. The superb location (old church) attracted us, so the two of us went back for a coffee and a slice of cake from the window. We wait a little while at the "wait to be seated" sign, then another moment at the table, with very unfriendly staff who take our order. A group of 15 bikers return AFTER us. After 25 minutes of waiting, knowing that apart from us and the bikers the few people present had already been served, my friend went to ask politely at the counter if they had not forgotten us, and was told in an extremely unpleasant manner that They decided to do the bikers' order first, so we just have to wait or they can cancel our order. In short, 30 minutes wasted, no coffee or anything, we ended up leaving. A café restaurant which seems to rest on its laurels and the beauty of the place, and which forgets the minimum of politeness. Go somewhere else.

Nice food served in a pleasant laid back atmosphere. The pasta with courgettes and sun-dried tomatoes was delicious.

Delicious food and very reasonable prices. We really enjoyed the sharing platter of meats and cheeses and the Italian fish stew. The squid and the sea bass were perfectly cooked. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

The place is really nice, both for lunch or for a cute coffee date. Coffee is really good, and the soup I had for lunch (carrot and ginger) was absolutely delicious.

Staff were lovely and friendly and the service was quick - but we ordered bacon sandwiches to eat outside on a sunny but chilly October morning... and the sandwiches were cold they’d obviously been made the day before which was their style, but we all felt a breakfast roll needs to be warm! I have been here before and we deduced a similar conclusion: stunning views, really friendly and lovely staff but not great food.

After day on a boat and in the sun/wind this was perfect for a cool airy space to enjoy a pot of tea.

Called in for soup, coffee and cake in the pouring rain. The food was delicious and the members of staff were lovely, making us feel very welcomed from the pouring rain.

What Tobermory doesn’t do well is breakfast. After walking around we had to settle on this cafe as there was no where else to eat in on the harbour front. The coffee and tea was great and the staff were lovely but the breakfast sandwiches were abysmal. Cold bacon that was very fatty and (heaped) margarine instead of butter. I’m not sure who made these sandwiches but they should stop. Missing a very easy and cheap trick here. Free WiFi and great social distancing.

Found this gem of a coffee shop by accident in a converted church on the harbour at Tobermory. Brilliant and dedicated young staff, coffee and home made cakes delicious. They just wanted to offer people a good experience-hadn’t been open long (Covid) and confess they will be happy to break even. They deserve all the success they can get. Dog friendly too - our two were photographed and Instagrammed as ‘dogs of the day’ in Tobermory. Lovely experience-go if you can. What a change from indifference in the South!

Nece place to go to when Tobermory is busy with us tourists. Nice tea and scones and nice little shop inside too.

It was a wet and soggy sort of day when this place just popped into view. We were a little wary to enter at first considering the surroundings, but no, all was lovely and modern and bright.Great coffee, scones and jam. Prices mid-range and food moreish. Glad we were seeking shelter or might have missed it!

Very busy the day we went due to the rain I expect. Tables quite close together, you have to queue at the counter to make your order, and at the time we went it was taken by an unsmiling young girl. For goodness sake how much would it cost you to be pleasant? The food was okay, quite pricey though. Seating not that comfortable, I would rather have sat outside but the rain put paid to that. I had a look in the shop and the goods were very expensive. Not a place I would return to in a hurry.

Popped in here for lunch whilst visiting Tobermory. Sadly they were short staffed and whilst open were only doing coffee and cake (although there looked like at least 3 members of staff standing around). Coffee was delicious.

Friendly helpful staff and very reasonable prices. Hot soup and chocolate for cold days, chilled wine and beer for hot ones!

We went here to have coffee and we would have had scones but they charge £3.20 for 1 plain scone with jam and cream needless to say we declined the scones. Went next door and bought 2 fruit scones from the co-op.

A converted church is the site of this lovely cafe ....fair prices and friendly staff ...high ceilings and old stained glass ....very well renovated and outdoor seating ....all good home cooked food in generous proportions

Stopped in here for a drink before heading back to Ardnamurchan on the ferry.

With a great view of the harbour it is a good place to visit for a snack, drink, or coffee and cakes etc. You can either sit inside or out, its reasonably priced and they have a good selection of gifts.

The place is lovely, just on the high street with a large patio to sit outside. We had Coffee, cake and two sandwiches, however the veggie one had some improvement to do.

A hub for the whole town and serves up some good food and drink. Well worth a visit if your tour of the town allows for it. There was a craft fair on there on the day we visited Mull. All part of the experience of this picturesque town.

This is in a converted church and offers fantastic drinks and food, best place in Tobermory for this. There is also a great shop inside selling local crafts which are reasonably priced

We stopped here for coffee and cake on a drizzly day. Service was efficient, food and drink were great, and the setting, with a gift shop attached, in an old church, was unusual, and a fine selling point :-)

With the sun shining this was the ideal spot for lunch on the waterfront in Tobermory. Plenty outside seating and a lovely soup & sandwich deal - open sandwiches might surprise some!

Great a dog friendly cafe. However service was slow, tables not getting cleared, coffee was poor but at least the cake was good and it was dog friendly Oh and the attached gallery shop was worth a browse

We were well looked after here on a wet and windy day several varieties of tea and cake available. All very tasty. Gift shop well stocked with interesting local products
