We’ve just been to the art gallery café for lunch we won’t be going back. They sell scones but they’ve run out of jam What kind of business can’t even organise going to the shop and getting a pot of jam. Leeds city council should be ashamed of themselves.

Lovely tiled hall which was nice and cool on a warm day. I decided to have tea and a scone. The scone was advertised with or without jam & cream, however I was advised jam was not available. This wasn’t an issue for me a I was only wanting butter with mine. The scone was lovely but the tea was a huge disappointment as it was luke warm. To get serviettes, sugar and a knife you had to reach over 2 trolleys which had been left out.

Called in for coffee and panini, didn't think it was overly expensive. There wasn't a long wait for he panini as the staff were fairly efficient. I didn't think the food prep area was particularly untidy and the staff were in corporate wear which I would not describe as scruffy. The floor around our table had quite a lot of of food scraps on it which should have been swept up after that customer left but you can't have everything.

This place has 3.5 stars! How can that be on the day I visited it was full of complaining customers and flippant staff, one staff member even said “ you may get your bacon sandwich who knows” the food disgusting and laughable. Whoever runs this cafe should give it up as a bad job.

came for coffee and cake reasonable prices nice setting but then let down with limited cake offering and only a plain scone on offer. Staff said they had not made other scones for a year due to a cook leaving {new cook only available to do plain scones} Deluxe Hot chocolate missing marshmallows but still charged for!! Staff also need to tie hair back and stop playing with hair when serving food!!!

We did a walking tour of Leeds which started just outside the Town Hall and Art Gallery and the guide recommended that we visit the Tiled Hall afterwards. The Hall itself is stunning and we would certainly advise anyone to just pop their head in the door and have a look around. However don’t bother to stop for any refreshments. Service was very slow and there was a very limited choice of food on offer - mainly cakes and scones. The scones they served up were small and stale. Very disappointing for such a beautiful location and a change of management wouldn’t go amiss.

Visited Leeds Art Gallery specifically to see the Leeds Artists Show and wasn't disappointed as this gallery never fails to exceed expectations - unlike the Tiled Hall. The venue itself is stunning and having eaten there previously I was looking forward to lunch during my visit. How disappointing that they were serving nothing but cakes. No soup, salads, paninis, sandwiches, chilli, pie - nothing but cake. My friend and I therefore had a coffee whilst considering our options and both failed to finish what can only be described as a cup of luke warm milk. Leaving the gallery, we found a lovely independent café and paid them £30 which would have been spent in the Tiled Hall. Yes, I did share my views with staff who didn't even apologise or say they would pass on my comments.

After a lovely morning mooching about my hometown doing a bit of sightseeing I paid a long awaited visit to the gorgeous ‘tiled cafe’ to see what it’s like . I waited in the queue and noticed (on a chalkboard) it was cash only , I had enough loose change and gave my order to a young man who politely informed me “it was cash only” l nodded as that was fine , with that a very loud member of staff ( older female ) aggressively grabbed the chalk board whilst loudly exclaiming ( to the poor young man serving me) Move the board, move the board it’s cash only, they can’t see it ,I said bemusedly, I saw it and smiled at all 3 serving staff to hopefully diffuse the situation. No she then proceeded to take over my order ( of 1 crumpet , not the 2 offered on the menu for £1.60:) saying very loudly 80p that will be 80p not giving the poor lad serving me chance to state the obvious! I said calmly , it’s ok , and why are you being so aggressive? she looked at me with narrowed eyes and said sarcastically “Am I , I didn’t realise ..I said it may be your accent?(sounded Spanish or similar) but she just glared at me , I felt so sorry for the young girl and boy serving uncomfortably and said “I’m sorry but you shouldn’t let her speak to you like that ..the coffee and crumpet were fine , the venue absolutely gorgeous but it was an awful rude display of bad manners and bullying and I hope she sees this and takes note ….the poor review isn’t aimed at the 2 other staff or the venue it’s completely aimed at the bullying woman who should not be working front of house !

First visit here. Poor experience. A "no hot food" sign on arrival was disappointing. Good array of cakes that looked nice but we just opted for hot drinks. BE AWARE: Test the table top before you set the tray down because 3 of the 4 we tried tilted to 45° which is dangerous. Had we put the tray of hot drinks down they would have slid straight to the floor and burned us in the process. Health and Safety/Maintenence need to be looked at ASAP. Employing someone specifically to clear tables would be an advantage, clearing own table is never a good start. A very poor first impression. The interior decoration is stunning.

I visited The Tiled Hall with my two grandchildren, aged 3 and 5. I ordered 2 children’s sandwiches and a panini, 2 fruit juices and a tea, and two cakes. The children’s sandwich consisted of one slice of bread, a piece of ham, a few crisps and a piece of cucumber. This was certainly not enough for my grandkids or for the cost. My panini was poorly prepared, the cheese wasn’t melted. The cakes were dry and crumbled when lifted from the plate. In comparison with other places, of which there are many in Leeds, this was expensive and the food quality poor. The building is beautiful.

Coffee was expensive for a simple black coffee. No milk alternatives for lactose intolerant/vegans. The lady behind the bar was emptying packets of pre baked cakes from a cash&carry; and putting them on show, clearly very cheap and nasty. Not much choice for vegans only one grey unappetising looking fruit tray bake. Packets of wholesale tortilla crisps laying around. The staff were indifferent, when our coffee was made no one announced it or said thanks - I had to guess that it was ready & I could take it! 2 Black coffees no frills came to £4.80 - really expensive for the quality! The whole cafe area is grimy and dusty, the plants are dusty, windows need cleaning, tables are wobbling and the whole place needs renovating. It is rubbish compared to other art gallery cafes such as Whitworth Art Gallery and Manchester Art Gallery. This place needs to keep up with the times and desperately needs someone else to take over and modernise! Get with the times guys! Other art gallery cafes are way ahead of this place in terms of what they offer. Go elsewhere!

This is a very special location with unique Victorian tiled walls and ceiling which gives an oriental feel to the place. A bit expensive for what you get (especially teas and coffees) and not a huge choice, but the food was tasty and freshly prepared. The cakes looked delicious and it was a huge effort not to indulge! Definitely worth a visit if you're down that end of town.

Hard to concentrate on the coffee and cake when surrounded by such an amazing room. The art gallery is also worth a look, especially the Leeds Tapestery.

A lovely coffee shop in a beautifully decorated room - a must see, and a great place to sit and have a drink

Beautiful decor, friendly staff and a relaxing place to catch up with friends. We didn't sample the food but the cakes range looked good.

I took a walk to the bakery to see if they supplied fresh bread. I checked the opening hours and when I arrived it was closed. Wasted journey. Looks a nice place from the outside though.

Three of us stopped for a hot drink and cakes. Will definitely not be returning. The radio was on, the cafe was completely empty, my friend asked politely if the radio could be turned off. The lady owner was grumpy and unfriendly, it took her a minute to decide that the radio could be turned off after my friend said it was ok if not as we can go to another cafe. After sitting down, we moved table as the corner we smelt damp and unpleasant, owner was not happy with this. We found the table cloth was very stained and quite dirty. When my friend asked (very politely) if we could swap it for a clean one, the cafe owner became very defensive and said that she had had a very busy morning, had a customer who had a meal at the table and of course she couldn't ask them to make a mess. She went on to say she just last week had 5* hygiene inspection. We later found out this was a lie. She did not change the dirty table cloth. We could see she was very defensive so my friend apologised for upsetting her. There was NO one in the cafe the whole time we were there. Personally if I was the business owner, I would have been embarrassed at the standard of cleanliness. Between us we ordered 2 hot drinks, a hot water and two cakes. After paying the bill with no given receipt, my friend realised we had been charged around £2.50 for the hot water!! Either that or the very small cakes of low quality, was over £4 a slice, bear in mind this is a dirty, dated tea room, not clean quality, modern cafe. Further more, my friend had walked passed the cafe at 1pm and it was totally empty then too, so not sure what she meant when she said the cafe had been VERY busy. The service overall was poor. We should have left when she wouldn't replace the dirty cloth but since the drinks were already made, we felt bad about leaving. I left most of my chocolate cake as I did not enjoy it at all. The coffee cake my friend had wasn't fantastic either. Of course we don't want anyone to loose business, however, it is also not ok to charge people good money for a very poor service, poor quality and to overcharge them. After this experience, we went to read some reviews and found a number of reviews that echoed our own experience. This cafe should not be in operation. Wish we'd taken some photos.
