Nice pub next to the castle, the beer is good, the landlord was a bit grumpy but the welcome and service by the charming red headed bar lady more than compensated. We went back there a few times ,very cozy

We stayed two nights here in the really good CROMWELL ROOM. Excellent location, accommodation and Breakfast. We had pre-booked with Stacey who suggested this room for us and gave us good advice for using their complimentary car park. Many thanks to Stacey for her excellent advice. What can I say ? An amazing stay !! Rooms spotless , quirky, fab walk in shower , bed very comfortable, clean white sheets n pillows ,the only problem is ,if you have mobility issues like me , there are 29 steps to the rooms , which I personally found hard going ,but my friends didn’t have a problem ,n it’s worth it due to the beautiful rooms !! The staff were absolutely amazing !! Our cases were carried up to our rooms , better than some 4 * corporate hotels !! We absolutely adored the old pub ,full of character, fantastic beer garden ,which is huge , it’s right next to the main car park , n castle …. I have never ever been made so welcomed by the staff n locals … live music sat night was fab !! Great atmosphere, very busy ,but that makes it more enjoyable. Over all we would definitely go back , I’ve been all over the world n this little establishment is up there with the best ,due to staff n rooms .

We popped in here for lunch after visiting the castle. Unfortunately the person taking the food order seemed rather irritated to be taking the order. Despite asking for a sandwich not to have an ingredient it was still included (not wanting to have to deal with the irritated person again I just tried to scrape it out). Chairs and tables were not the best either I’m afraid. Overall unfortunately disappointed.

Ten members of our Walking Group took a chance to have a late lunch in this well established and well positioned Pub very close to Chepstow Castle. A very varied and inspired menu consisting of old favourites and some uncommon dishes. They were very busy but the Staff reacted really well and rapidly served us. I had the trio of sausages and mash which was very tasty and enjoyable. My wife had the Moroccan lamb burger which she gave a 10/10 vote. The remaining members of the Group gave a very favourable response to the food and service. The garden area is also well laid out and popular with both human and canine clients.

I don't know where to begin. In all the years of staying in hotels this one has to be the worst. Waited 15 mins until i finally got checked in, basically stood outside in the cold, got inside and its warmer outside. No wifi, says they have it, i used 2 devices and found zero networks. There are holes in the wall, cracks in the cieling, the windows may aswell not be there you can see your breathe when u breath. Shower is suitable for anyone under 6 stone and under 5ft. Plus anyone outside can see u through the window. Oh, nearly forgot the TV, You need binoculars or a magnifine glass to watch it from your bed. So basically you freeze to death whilst watching it or don't bother. Would upload pictures but it wouldn't allow me. Last but not least, when u open the door you are literally less than a metre from being on the road which has boy racers driving past most of the night just for good measures.

Goede bak koffie of thee. Het was er druk ook met plaatselijke bevolking terwijl de omringende zaken leeg waren dus blijkbaar een bekende zaak. Leuke zaak, goed eten.

This property is a pub with character and the room was quirky with a sloping floor but this added to the character. The pub has a great selection of beers and is in a fantastic location right next to the castle and a short walk into the town. I didn’t find the bed particularly comfortable but this was mainly due I think to the sloping floor. Also there was a quiz night on at the pub so we got a bit of noise from that in our room until it had finished, however I’m not complaining about that as we were staying in a pub and they are running a business.

Booked for one night, great location, beware you park in a payment car park, but free on a Sunday. Booked in, they took payment and took me to the room, the young lady opened the room and was shocked to find someone else had been put in there. I booked back in December specifically requesting a double room and bath. They told me to come back in 30 mins.I returned, dealt with by a different person, they asked for payment, I explained I’d paid, he started to say that booking online doesn’t take payment etc etc, I explained I paid 30 mins ago and showed the receipt. He took us to the room, explaining the need to know stuff as we went, which was good. We were then let in to a twin room, not the one I was shown, I then asked why we weren’t getting the original room, poor lad had no idea of the issue. He did his best, but it took over a hour to sort out as the people had to be called to return and move their things. The noise outside the pub was horrendous, the people leaving had no respect for the neighbours, we didn’t get to sleep until after 0100. The pluses, great breakfast, lovely 17th century style room and a fabulous bath.

I found this pub about 3 weeks ago, purely by chance, when out with a friend and we thought it was lovely. Friendly welcome, busy on a Monday lunchtime and specializing in pies and mash. The pies a superb, and not a fan of mash they were happy to do me chips. So why slightly disappointing? Well based on this experience I returned with some of my visiting family yesterday. The young lady front of house was very welcoming and helpful, and the pies were just as good, again it was busy and clearly popular with locals. My issue was with the chef. I think she heard me saying to my son that they were happy to substitute chips for mash and he heard her say she was not doing it. Had I been aware I may have chosen a different dish or maybe gone for a different eating venue. However as I had not heard I asked my son to order me the Moo Pie but with chips which he tried to do, and the helpful lady on the bar put this request to the chef, who refused. This gets better. My son therefore ordered a side of chips and asked for that to be put on my plate instead of the mash - which they obligingly did, and charged us for the privilege - adding the side of chips to the bill, ironically not discounted for the lack of mash. I can't help but feel this attitude was unaccommodating and somewhat mean spirited. So would I recommend this place if you are a fan of pie AND MASH. Yes I would and my family really enjoyed it. However for me sadly I doubt I will not return again on future visits to Chepstow.

Situated beneath the magnificent castle with a shabby chic decor gives this pub some real charm. However the menu is limited and unfortunately we chose badly with both of us having the fish and chips. This took an age to come and then looked like it had come from a ‘Captain’s Birdseye’ commercial. It was quite tasty and a special mention has to go the mushy peas which were delicious but it was all too uniform. The side salad didn’t look any better with a superfluous orange slice on top.

Stayed here last night (Saturday 26 May). There was a great live band, atmospheric bar, quirky bedrooms and the staff and proprietor were lovely and could not be faulted. Really nice selection of local food, ciders and the breakfast was tasty. Due to its location we also found this to be great place to stay if visiting Tintern Abbey, Forest of Dean or Chepstow Racecourse. We will definitely be returning this summer.

Only been there on Saturday nights. Great beer. Especially popular pub for grown ups Saturday evenings when they bring in decent rock bands. Usually local bands playing a mix of their own music and cover versions of rock classics. Always a good natured crowd and...

What fantastic food, I had the Chicken and leek pie ( amazing pastry ) and went for chips instead of mash was I so glad I did, the chips had grooves in them and so crisp and hot you could dip them in your gravy ( that came in a separate gravy boat ) and it filled it up. my husband had the sausage and mash, 3 fabulous sausages and the mash had plenty of butter in it that made it the best mashed potatoes ever. Very friendly staff and dog friendly.

A nice old fashioned pub with a good selection of beers. We both had pies which are homemade and are served with buttery mash, gravy and minted mushy peas. Good home style cooking. Pork pies and scotch eggs etc. were available at the bar. Friendly staff. Area to sit outside and right next to the Castle and car park.

Another enjoyable visit to the Holland Arms. Usual friendly welcome and great service. We shared a duck starter from the specials board, amazing, especially the sauce. We then had lamb and steak as our mains. Both meats were delicious as were the accompanying vegetables. Good choice of wine (I enjoyed the Malbec). Couldn’t resist a bread and butter pudding for dessert - even though full. Look forward to our next visit - probably one of the Christmas meals now being advertised. Very reasonable bill.

Having not been to The Greyhound for a year or so, I was thrilled with our choice. Nothing had changed, everything was as good as before. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. Despite the restaurant being busy, Service was prompt and friendly and the food ( Steak & Kidney Pie / Fruity Chicken Curry ) was plentiful and delicious. Highly recommended. We certainly won't leave it so long till we return

Beautiful location and beer garden is beautiful next to the river, however the barmaid was very snappy with my boyfriend and it seemed very clicky. A shame as it would be beautiful in the summer months
