Wow!! What can I say? . We had our wedding reception here on the 25th Feb. Barry and his staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble, the buffet was fabulous we had so many compliments to pass on ,especially for the roast potatoes!! No buffet will ever be the same again if they do not have them in. Our whole day was relaxed and we cannot thank them enough for supporting us with our day. Thankyou for everything Claire and lee x

Visited The Carpenters on a few occasions with the new ownership, never fails to disappoint. Amazing food, especially the steak (cooked to perfection). Lovely friendly staff, who are so attentive and nice to chat to as well. A homely pub and great for any occasion. We highly recommend Kate and Mikey

A group of 10 of us came for lunch on a Saturday, including 4 children aged under 5 and a dog. There was a large table to fit us all by a cosy fire. The menu had a varied selection and the food was good. We were welcomed really warmly, which was appreciated.

Lovely Sunday lunch in a quaint little village pub. Typical prices for food and beverages but good quality. Will definitely return.

Sometimes people are quick to jump in negatives, so feel it is important that credit is left with credit is due. Christmas lunch was amazing!. We took the opportunity to return to this little pub for Christmas Day Dinner, never been out for Christmas lunch before and we could not fault it, had the homemade soup to start, followed by two meats main menu, and cheesecake for desert… the staff were very friendly and was great to see it so busy. We were a little later being served than planned, but that was ok, it was definitely worth the wait. Well done to everyone involved.

The food, was delicious, not an easy task when catering for high volume. All three courses were freshly cooked ( not processed). Absolutely fantastic Christmas family afternoon this Sunday (22nd Fec 24) Barry and his super friendly team delivered a perfect afternoon for us. Party of 20 or so. Great food, great atmosphere and great service

Very disappointing! I booked this a few months back for our annual Christmas works meal. I was told that we couldn’t book for the evening as the last orders for food was 4pm. I thought “ok, we can work around that”. I was lead to believe that the premises closed at 9pm. To start we had to ask for the fire to be lit as it was freezing in there. Our food came and the starters were chucked together. The soup was stone cold. The prawn cocktails were served in a dessert bowl and the lettuce had seen its day. The main meals were again stone cold and one of our party took her meal up to the bar to be warmed up. We had to ask for water on the table and were given one glass of water. Extra knives and forks, as we used the ones we had for our starters. Extra gravy and sauces also. Not once did anyone ask if we would like another drink. We had to physically go to the bar ourselves. Hence the staff weren’t busy they were playing on their phones. There was a sense of attitude also when we asked for all of the above. We weren’t even asked if we wanted coffee after our meal. Very poor service. Some of the party had to the bar yet again to get a drink and at 6pm was told that the bar had closed. All in all a total disaster. Ruined our annual works do that we look forward to every year. Very sad as the previous owners had such a good reputation.

Had a wonderful Sunday roast last week for 17 family members. Warm and welcoming in the bar. We all had the 3 courses and nothing was left on the plates. A lovely variety of meat and veg. Thank you to Louise and all the serving staff who couldn't do enough for us.

Visited after prebooking the table weeks before. The pub was freezing inside, we were told they had no logs, and no time to light the fire!!! In the middle of winter!! What ever we wanted to order was off the menu, soup, curry, chicken, steak pie, most vegetables all off. Ended up just paying for our drinks (that were extraordinarily pricey) that we ordered and left. What a disappointment. Drove a good way to get to the place, to get rubbish service, zero food and no apology!

I have visited the Carpenters Arms a few times before, possibly with different management. The meals have always been of a very high standard and the ambience and service fantastic. The previous visits were for a birthday meal with friends and a mother's day meal in the restaurant. On this occasion, our starters were first class (spinach and garlic mushrooms on sourdough toast and deep fried camembert with cranberry sauce) My main meal of beer battered cod and mushy peas, the other main of faggots and peas were nicely cooked, tasty and generous in quantity. My sister's mushroom stroganoff however was very poor. It consisted of a bowl of plain boiled rice plus a few fried mushrooms and onions on the side of the plate which had been flavoured slightly. This was very disappointing. When we complained, a substitute meal was offered and then the meal would not be charged for.y sister ate the meal because she was hungry. It was edible but very basic and unlike any mushroom stroganoff we have seen before. The offer was then changed to a free dessert. I had an ice-cream sundae for dessert which was just 3 scoops of ice-cream with sauce poured over it. The owners were pleasant and I have tried to give a fair and balanced review. The choice of interesting food for vegetarian people was poor; just the usual stroganoff, vegan curry or salad. I wonder if the restaurant has the proper chef in for their all number of lunchtime guests.

We visited the Carpenters Arms this week ( 6/11), and from the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel right at home with their warm and welcoming attitude. The food itself was fantastic ( lasagne and cheeseburger) The portions were generous, and everything was fresh. The atmosphere was laid-back and friendly, making it the perfect spot for a casual meal with the family. It’s definitely a place we’ll be returning to, would highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxed spot with good service and delicious food!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️After enjoying an evening meal two weeks ago, we could not wait to return to try the Sunday lunch. Again, we could not fault the service, food, or atmosphere. There was 14 of us when we enjoyed the evening meal, and 6 of us on Sunday. The food on both occasions was served warm, and the young man who served us was polite and friendly. Would not hesitate to recommend. See you soon!

We visited the carpenters arms for third time in past few weeks after 2 great sunday dinners,however there were 13 of us having Sunday lunch yesterday (3rd Nov 2024) it started with them forgetting 1 starter, 3 soups out of 5 were luke warm...when the Sunday dinner came my sister put her peas on plate and they were literally FROZEN,she passed them down table to feel and were still FROZEN by time we all touched them,then we were told WE CANT HAVE ANYMORE GRAVY.....so by the time we had a fresh HOTTER veg the gravy had been used up...however I think the boy seen my face and he did bring us another boat out... Then the desserts..... the apple crumble was mushy with sprinkled biscoff on top,.. The honey comb cheesecake was like a mousse not even set,didn't taste great at all...so all in all absolutely disgusting meal and not the best service either....WILL NOT BE RETURNING HERE....

Went here for lunch on Sunday with my family and I must say it was they best Sunday lunch we have had the staff were amazing and very attentive to our needs the bar staff were welcoming and friendly too Thank you we will definitely be returning xx

Had high expectations, shocking service. Had a child bring my food to the table which was cold and he was creepy. When complained had some women come out clearly drunk abusing us! Will not return. Oh and she was flirting with my husband!

First, the location is beautifully picturesque, tucked just enough away whilst remaining central to larger areas. The owners are wonderful and welcoming and have created a warm and inviting venue. The decor is beautifully done, combining the original atchitecture with a modern twist, resulting in a luxury feel. The food was delicious and arrived very promptly. A wonderful selection of classic dishes with a great vegan/vegetarian menu available and the presentation was top quality. The WC facilities were above par, being beautifully decorated, clean and smelling divine. They imply the 'ask for angela' operative which is wonderful to see. They have a large function room, that is available to hire, which is decorated lovely and has a dance floor area. Perfect for weddings. Altogether a great, easy going and welcoming country pub that caters for all. Worth the travel and will definitely be visiting many more times!

Booked a table for 2.30 for Sunday lunch, which we were very much looking forward to. At 4pm we still hadn't had our order. A staff member asked if everything was OK and we explained that our food hadn't arrived. The staff member walked off and didn't come back with any explanation. We ended up walking out not having any lunch. The service was awful and unfortunately we're unable to review the food. Will not be going back and would definitely recommend.

Sunday lunch today 29.09.24 Food was really good . However service was very much behind what it should be . Waited over 40 mins to be offered dessert and it took another age before it was presented . Table next to us waited nearly 2 hours for their mains to come out .

Lovely location and pub spoilt by the terrible service and awful food.The food arrived cold waited for several minutes before any cutlery arrived to eat it with.Unfortunately it was tepid to cold! Saw the chef who wasn’t best pleased at our complaint.Wont be returning!

Had a really good meal at the Carpenters after playing golf . Service was good and the staff were really welcoming . I had the beef stroganov which was really tasty . Myfriend had teriyaki salmon that looked and tasted really good. Real ales were also quality as well as the dessert -we both had the honeycomb cheesecake . It's a really nice pub set in in an idyllic village.

Lovely food, friendly staff. I had beef stroganoff and it was delicious, as was the pie and burgers. My husband is not a lover of peas and carrots and they offered him different vegetables which is very unusual. It’s a lovely country pub. We will definitely return.

We stumbled upon this charming pub while driving to the lake and decided to check it out. What a delightful surprise! We were warmly welcomed by the friendly landlady, who suggested we enjoy our meal in the tranquil garden. The garden was absolutely stunning and provided a serene atmosphere. We opted for the two meals for £20 deal and both chose the fish and chips, which were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious! The service was excellent, the prices were very reasonable, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. The pub itself, along with the lovely beer garden, added to the overall experience. With plenty of events planned in the coming months, we can’t wait to return. If you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to stop by—it's definitely worth the trip!

Decided to try this pub for the first time in a while after seeing their menu advertised and recently heard it is under new ownership. The lady at the bar was lovely and the drinks were too! We all had different meals and everyone commented on how much they had enjoyed it, especially the curry! The service was great too! We definitely won’t be leaving it as long as before to visit again ☺️

The postcode is slightly off but gets you pretty close. We found it without any trouble. Great food, Friendly landlady. Wonderful hanging baskets and pub garden. I could have stayed here all day. Discovered what going 50:50 means in Wales. (half a portion of rice and half a portion of chips). The chips were the best I had on our trip. I had the chicken curry. My friends had the burger option.

Stopped here after visiting Llangdegfedd Lake. What a lovely hidden gem it is. Full of character inside and out, friendly staff, a good selection of drinks and nice food. Oh...and they are also dog friendly.

So glad to see it is open again, and even more glad after trying their freshly cooked tasty menu and meeting their welcoming and extremely friendly and helpful new owners. Great gluten free and veggie options, and for fussy eaters like me, willing to amend and change to suit. If you are in the area, do not miss it, and if weather allows, enjoy their beautiful outdoor sitting area.

Great for family get together on Saturday lunchtime. Reasonable priced drinks, extremely good selection of food, great value, especially the Platters. We were well looked after.

We came here for a birthday meal and was not happy with the food at all 22 pound for a steak that ain't big enough to feed a dog very disappointed and lasagna was very dry and tomatoey

It's a lovely pub friendly staff but the food .. I ordered lasagna and it tasted nothing like lasagna ! My partner had a steak pie awful don't think we will be going back.

This is the best Sunday lunch we have had in a very long time. Absolutely excellent. Lovely selection of vegetables, perfect portions sizes. Beautifully presented, and stayed hot until the last delicious bite! Staff all welcoming. Lovely atmosphere. Very smart, yet cosy restaurant. Would highly recommend.

Lovely service, the food was simply amazing. We had come in tonight after a long journey, and the owner was gracious enough to let us eat even being fully booked. We are so glad he did as the food was simply fantastic, we had the Steak and Ale pie, and would highly recommend to everyone for the atmosphere and quality of food. First time visit for us. A very well run pub and restaurant with a great selection of unusual beers on tap. Large dining room with a log burner fire. A nice menu to choose from with some unusual Portuguese options. Sunday lunch hot and tasty with fresh veg as much as we wanted. Nice starters too and lush looking deserts but we were too full. Clean and well organised throughout.

Went for a birthday meal and the food and service was brilliant, I had the lamb shank and it was beautifully cooked, empty plates all around along with full bellies

Had Sunday lunch 5/11 Was so disappointed 😔 Spent £80 for family of 4, veg was limp and grey, stuffing ball processed and dry, hardly any taste. Children’s dinners 8.50 had to pay extra £1 for Yorkshire pudding. So many dishes on the table!!! No room. Glad I didn’t order desert as overheard the crumble was stodgy Won’t be returning

We visited the carpenters arms to celebrate our wedding reception with family and friends. We were looking for something special and the carpenters meant a lot to us as we had our first date there and they did not disappoint. Nelson went above and beyond for us the room was beautifully set up. The food was outstanding everyone was raving about it. We really can’t thank you enough for making our special day go so smoothly.

We recently visited the restaurant to celebrate my daughters birthday. 21 of us dined & the service was brilliant. From the moment I called to book the owner Nelson organised everything brilliantly. We pre ordered & when we arrived everything was prepared & everyone’s food served in good time. The food was beautiful & Nelson & the rest of the staff very attentive. We will definitely return. Birthday meal (sunday lunch). Food was average, a little expensive for the quality. Would describe as 'luke warm'. Meat was clearly a cheap cut that had been cooked for hours. Tasted okay. Veg was average. Cauliflower cheese was extra and noy worth it for the portion size. Service poor...unatentive and generally ignorant. Requests for rake away carton ignored several times. Eventually food was removed from table and returned all mashed up in tin foil! Would not be somewhere I'd return.

We had a lovely family meal for my daughters 30th birthday. There were 24 of us, and everything went like clockwork. Friendly staff and the meals were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble, even down to us wanting to decorate the tables, etc. We will definitely be back. Thank you again for accommodating us. Xxx

Popped in for lunch one evening with my dad. Many pubs these days seem to be chain pubs - pre cooked warm it up in a microwave type food, and we chose the Carpenters for the exact reason that it isn’t one of these pubs. Proper home cooked good food with good portions and tasty is what we got. Inside is lovely, cozy and homely with nice decor, music playing and a warm welcome from (I assume) the owner behind the bar who also served our food and had a chat with us to explain the dishes. If your after honest home made quality tasty food and a friendly place to eat it, then you can’t go wrong with this pub.

Had a really nice lunch, there was a party of 20 in before us and we thought we might not be looked after so well but it was the absolute opposite it was great, the food is good the prices are reasonable,

We hadn't booked, just arrived on the off chance of getting a table. The owner was behind the bar and spoke to the Chef who said about half an hour wait. There were 3 large parties already sitting down. Not a problem. We ordered drinks, was given menus and placed our order before we went to our table, which was just under the half hour. Food and service was excellent, the owner, who was serving tables made time to chat to us. It was a pleasure to have someone make the effort to try and fit us in. Thank you, and we shall return soon.

The Francesinha (cheese, ham, beef & chorizo in a beautiful spicy sause) & the Bacalhau com Natas (cod & cream) we're delightful, some of the nicest food we've eaten in a long time. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the beers were excellent.

My 2nd visit in a week, after all it was time my fiance had a dose of The Carps! Delicious food - yum to the butternut squash Neil, and say nothing of our Rocher Ice-cream Cake & Eaton Mess Pie!! Nelson's service, as always, makes you feel like you popped over to your friends for a VIP 5 Star meal! In the words of Arne - "I'll be back!"

My Mum and Dad go here regularly as they live in the village and I can see why. Everything from the food, wonderful service to the lovely way the pub has been decorated. Went with my son and Mum. Clean plates all round for 3 courses. And the Portuguese red wine yum yum. Will be back very soon. 😊

Had a really lovely time at The Carpenters last night, attending an evening of Mediumship. (Definitely want to know when you are putting on the next one please Nelson!) Nelson & Neil are just the nicest landlords I've ever met. From the minute you walk in they make you feel right at home and like you've known each other for years. And not just me, they were the same to everyone. No matter how busy they were. Beautiful little nook, gorgeously done up, so clean, tidy & fresh. I can't speak for the food as I haven't had any yet, but it won't be long before I can as I already know this is a place I'll definitely be returning to!

Stopped here for lunch with friends who were locals. I can see why they rave about the place! The food was delicious and the service excellent. Very friendly owner.

Excellent lunch chosen from the extensive and varied menu. Food was well cooked and prepared and the welcome was first class. All in all, a delightful meal which merits (several) return visits.

Went for lunch for the first time in many many years and found the food,the surroundings, and staff to be superb, my liver caserol was absolutely superb, my wife had chicken which she said melted in her mouth.and we were kept entertained by mine host,can't wait to get back

Popped in for a drink and meal on a whim on a sunny evening, and it was just absolutely lovely. First things we noticed were the lovely outside courtyard area, the selection of some unique beers (Murano and Portuguese), and the welcoming gent who greeted us. He was running the place by himself this evening and was doing a fantastic job. I have to mention the cocktail menu because there must be 20 cocktails available, which is so unusual for a pub, and really nice to have in the local area. Prices from £7-£10 so reasonable too. They were running on a limited menu due to a chef being off work, but still plenty of choice and our food was beautiful. One of the best curries I’ve had in a pub! All in all, a really nice evening and we’ll definitely be back. Thank you!

Popped in today with friends for dinner, as we hadn't been here for years. Welcomed by a lovely lady who was on the bar, she explained that there would be a possible 30-min wait for food due to a large table arriving, and being short staffed: absolutely no a problem, if anything we appreciated the forewarning. We ordered drinks, browsed the menu and took a seat, orders were taken and food arrived promptly. We cannot complain about the service, only downside was the portions were too big, so we had no room for a dessert each!! Haha. We did end up sharing a cheesecake though, which was equally as good as our starter & main! Little did we know that this has just been taken over, but wonderful to see the quality and welcome hadn't been lost!

Lovely pub , beautifully decorated for the festive season. Booked the Christmas horse / cart ride which was great. Booked a table for afterwards - there was 9 of us. Food was disappointing (had the Christmas dinner) very bland not much flavour and very basic for the price you pay. Unfortunately we won't be returning ☹️
