This is one of the friendliest bars with some great quality food as well. We had the souvlaki chicken and the squid as starters but the food , ambience and service was really good. Very welcoming pub in wales.

One of the most attentive team of staff at any hotel I've stayed at - a lovely group of people. Nothing was an issue - and all seemed willing to drop anything they were doing to assist. Room was spacious and had loads of character. Sounds travels a little, but we can expect it to be in a pub/building that age. Bar area is cosy/chilled. Breakfast was good - can't comment on lunch or dinner.

We went for a meal. 13 of us in total this time and really enjoyed it. I cannot comment on the rooms as we did not stay. I am disabled and the staff could not help me more, taking my rollator up the ramp and then supporting me as I could not push the walker myself (quite steep). It was very busy but nothing too much trouble. Thank you, we will certainly come again.

Booked for Sunday lunch, which was excellent. Very well cooked and presented, lovely pork, and veggies that were way more than just the bit on the side. The staff were really attentive and helpful. This is a very popular but upmarket restaurant, serving excellent meals. On this, our first, visit my wife and I enjoyed Sunday lunch. She had the excellent sea bass and I had roast beef with all the trimmings. The fish was white and fresh and the beef was tender and beautifully cooked. The veg was plentiful with good variety. There was just enough room for a dessert. My wife had tiramisu, as she is a bit of a connoisseur of that dessert. She said it was delicious and one of the very best she has ever had. I enjoyed the orange cheesecake which was smothered in a chocolate sauce. Excellent!

Ate for the first time last Saturday. Ordered salmon which came with polenta chips so asked to change to chunky chips. I had to pay £1.00 for the change. We've eaten a number of time in the King's Arms restaurant & came today for the Mother's Day lunch. It's a lovely, rustic setting, with a large restaurant & a few smaller rooms set up for dining. The staff are pleasant, friendly & very accomodating & there's always a nice selection of food on the menu. We were 3 adults & 2 children. Three of us opted for the 2 course roast lunch & dessert @ £23.95, the youngest 2 had a kid's meal & dessert @ £6.95. Everything was delicious. The meat was cooked to perfection & there was plenty of veg & gravy. The kid's meals were a decent size too. My only negative regarding the meal, was that there was garlic in the vegetables. I do not have an intolerance, but I dislike garlic with a passion. This wasn't specified on the menu & I feel it should have been. With regards to the bill, unfortunately we didn't realise until we'd got home, that we'd been wrongly charged. Instead of the offer price on the roast lunches, we were charged individually for each item. Not a huge difference in price I know, but still still wrong. My advice, check your bill before leaving. UPDATE - after reading my review, I was contacted by Maria from The King's Arms, who apologised for the mistake with the bill. She has sent me a voucher as a token of good will, which was an unexpected, but lovely gesture. Thank you Maria 😀

We had a lovely meal. Staff were very good. I didn't realise we we're paying nearly £20 service charge. Which was optional, but not explained. We think it was far too much tip. 2 guests only had fish and chips which was cheaper than the service charge. We were going to pay a tip, but not that amount. Disappointed at the end, because we didn't know it had been added on. Probably won't come again for that reason

Out with the family for an early Sunday roast. We were greeted by a very friendly staff member and ushered to our table inside. All in all the location, staff and especially the food all made it a very enjoyable experience. Menu did cater for vegan/vegetarian however my lot stuck into the roast beef and pork belly. Excellent starters and desert options. My only criticism may be that the menu is somewhat limited to 4 or 5 items for starters, main and desert each.

We were not disappointed, the hotel, restaurant and bar were spotless, the staff were the most welcoming bunch of people we've come across in the hospitality environment. Our room was great and we were delighted that the whirlpool bath was still there. Bed was really comfy. Breakfast was plentiful and of real quality ingredients. The bar was a great place to relax each evening. Great to see the hotel got through the lockdowns and has maintained or exceeded the great experience we had previously. The Kings Arms is situated in the middle of Abergavenny, within easy walking distance of the shopping center. There is ample parking in the large car park which is adjacent to the hotel for around £6 per day. We stayed here for three days and found our room, which had a four poster bed,to be warm, quiet, clean and comfortable. There is a large function room at the rear of the hotel which is also used for watching things like rugby internationals on the big screen. The bar area is quite small, but it has a good atmosphere and is well frequented by both locals and visitors alike. Our breakfasts were tasty, and there is a choice of fruit, cereals, and a full English. The best feature of this hotel is without doubt its staff. They were so friendly, helpful, and efficient it was practically impossible to find any faults at all. I have to say that I have difficulty with my mobility and stairs are a real problem, and needless to say 16th Century Inns do not have lifts and escalators so it was a problem for me to get to our upstairs room. However all the other positive points I have raised would make me very keen to stay there again if in the Abergavenny area.

This is my second time staying at the Kings Arms and once again it did not disappoint. The staff were polite and attentive, taking steps to ensure that my stay was as comfortable as possible. The Inn itself is both a bustling weekend venue for the locals, but it also boasts a great culinary offering, notably its Sunday lunch menu. From a lodging perspective, the rooms are quite spacious which depending on the room, offers views of the local mountains. The Inn itself dates from the 16th century which adds to its character, although you will be required to take some short flights of steps to reach the upper rooms. Overall, this is a well kept up and operated Inn within the heart of town, which if you’re looking for lodging over and above the normal chain hotels, then I would highly recommend The Kings Arms.

On the day when the rain just didn't stop, when roads flooded, fields were submersed and tempers were frayed, we broke our journey back home at this wonderful hotel. Arriving in the dark, having been driven half mad by our satnav insisting we could go down one way streets, we walked through the door, a couple of drowned rats, to a lovely welcome. Room no 7 was where we would lay our heads for the night. It was warm, the mattress was really comfortable, there was a bath and plenty of hot water. Milk in a jug was provided on request for a much needed cup of tea!Supper was good, lamb shanks and fish and chips, followed by a rather nice brownie, raspberry sorbet and cream.A scotch and a Baileys over ice in the bar later on was spot on! And still the rain fell down! But the star of this show, it has to be said, was the breakfast. It was, without doubt, the best full English I have had for a long long time, and He agreed. My bacon was crispy (without having to ask!), the sausage tasty, the egg just right and the comfit tomatoes were delicious. A treat of fried bread on the side was very welcome and He, especially, enjoyed the Black pudding (not my thing, sorry)! The only downside of this review is that, as I said, the room was warm, so we opened the window at night and unfortunately, if you are a light sleeper like myself, the kitchen fan didn't make for a peaceful sleep. He slept soundly! But don't let that put you off, take earplugs for Room 7 and enjoy everything else, it was a great overnight stay. Thank you to everyone, highly recommend your hotel.

Great first visit here on Christmas eve.Fast and friendly service from the staff. The food was excellent and fresh. All it seems to be at the moment is coffee shops in Abergavenny. It's nice to have a decent and honest pub to eat in.Will definitely be returning for a second visit.

15th Century inn. Quirky. Super staff and very good food. Comfy bedroom with 4 poster bed. Friendly bar area and banter with regulars. Nothing too difficult for staff to arrange. Centrally sited for the Town.

Decided to have lunch here as I had never been before. Menu isn't huge but a nice selection. I decided on the steak sandwich which came with a side of chips. When it arrived I was so let down. The bread was shop bought sliced bread. I was expecting a better maybe even homemade bread. For the price it is a very big let down. Not impressed

Sorry to say this hotel food has gone very poor. We have been having lunch here for years and not a grumble but today poor. Change of Chef. My wife and I both had fish pie from meal of the day served with seasonal veg. No idea what the veg was some beetroot cubes and two other items. About 10 cubes in all. As for the pie the mash had no cheese on top and was not toasted. We could not find any salmon but did find fish skin. Sauce was poor. Oh such a pity. We noticed that the hotel has only 3 star food hygiene rate.

Stayed at The Kings Arms Hotel mid travels. Lovely meal in the evening, followed by live music. Very comfortable beds in our twin room. Fantastic cooked breakfast set us up for the day - didn't eat for the rest of the day!! Staff were excellent, nothing too much bother. Very polite and attentive. Will definitely be back next year on our Christmas visiting and shopping trip.

Had a truly delicious REAL roast beef dinner today - fine joint of meat cooked on the premises with proper roasts and pan juice gravy. I had mine with pink in the middle and my wife, Sue, had hers 'cooked through'. Both were succulent, tender and seriously tasty. Add charming personal service to the fine food and you have a total winner here. Perfect!

We were visiting my husbands dad who lives in Abergavenny, we popped in to the Kings Arms Restaurant. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and I love the slate placemats which is a modern twist on an old pub. I also enjoyed the fact it was the oldest pub in Abergavenny and had a blue plaque outside.

Booked here as we were staying in Abergavenny. Food was stunning, as was the service. Lovely pub for a couple of drinks before moving into the restaurant. Great menu with several dishes which appealed. Opted for goat’s cheese and chicken liver parfait for starters before risotto and salmon mains.....all fantastic. We opted to finish with cheese and port. Incredible value for the quality of food. Totally worth a visit - and a few returns - if you are in the area.

Beautiful location and beer garden is beautiful next to the river, however the barmaid was very snappy with my boyfriend and it seemed very clicky. A shame as it would be beautiful in the summer months

Having not been to The Greyhound for a year or so, I was thrilled with our choice. Nothing had changed, everything was as good as before. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. Despite the restaurant being busy, Service was prompt and friendly and the food ( Steak & Kidney Pie / Fruity Chicken Curry ) was plentiful and delicious. Highly recommended. We certainly won't leave it so long till we return

Another enjoyable visit to the Holland Arms. Usual friendly welcome and great service. We shared a duck starter from the specials board, amazing, especially the sauce. We then had lamb and steak as our mains. Both meats were delicious as were the accompanying vegetables. Good choice of wine (I enjoyed the Malbec). Couldn’t resist a bread and butter pudding for dessert - even though full. Look forward to our next visit - probably one of the Christmas meals now being advertised. Very reasonable bill.
