Went with my husband for a quite drink when the owner turned up caused a scene with the landlord & landlady he then called the police accusing them of things they hadn’t done baring in mind there were two witnesses in the pub us , the owners sisters then came in saying she has called a gang to come up to sort them Out bad move in front of paying customers , the police then turn up in riot gear who nearly tasered my husband On false lies the owner told them , nobody should buy the lease on this pub from the owner as the village will boycott the pub while he owns it keep away from this pub at all costs The owner has ruined a village pub since he has taken over just over a year there has been 4 couples trying their hardest to run this pub it is a white elephant

Great welcome at this excellent pub from the friendly hosts Jodie and George. We arrived one minute before 2pm after a 7.5 mile walk not realising the kitchen was about to close, but it was no problem for our hosts who were only too happy to prepared us a delicious meal which I washed down with a superb pint of Timothy Taylors best. It's our third visit to this lovely pub and it's been a great experience each time. Recommended. Friendly, great atmosphere, well-kept real ale, and lovely food.

My wife and I arrived without booking for lunch. We were told that there might be a delay because the pub was quite busy but we were served with drinks very quickly and our orders were taken shortly afterwards. The food arrived surprisingly quicky. We had main courses and desserts and were both delighted with the quality and quantity of the food. The service throughout continued to be efficient and excellent in all respects. We left the pub feeling that we had not only had a fine lunch but had participated in a particularly satisfying dining experience.

I booked for Sunday lunch at the Three Tuns after visiting the Henry Moore Sculpture Gardens. I knew nothing of the area and feel very lucky to have found this place. The food was clearly homemade and really delicious, we had the specials of belly pork and a seafood pie. We were served very promptly, but not so that we felt rushed. Our waitress was delightful and very attentive. A lovely traditional pub that I’d be happy to visit again.

It seems such a long time since we were able to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and excellent food served up in this old village pub. Neil and Anita have been serving the community in more ways than one during the various lockdowns and deserve support in difficult times for the hospitality and service industries. Neil has a masterful touch in the kitchen and produces top quality dishes served in a traditional way without any of the so called trendy gastro pub nonsense. Welcome back!

As our visit was in Tier 2, just after lockdown, the landlord and landlady were both careful to check everything was done according to the rules, both when booking and on arrival. They were kind enough to seat my elderly parents next to the log-burner in the dining room so they kept warm. Their welcome was friendly and also informative. My only complaint is that there were no vegetarian main dishes on the normal menu or specials board. Perhaps they would have sorted something but I had the fish and chips anyway, which were excellent. They were happy to substitute mashed or new potatoes for my father's order. All the food was good. An excellent touch was to have all desserts available with a mini option, which we all found large enough after large main course portions. We would happily eat here again.

Only recently moved to the area and popped in for a bite to eat at lunch time. This was only our second visit but I must say this is a little gem, the food is outstanding and the landlady is so welcoming, always spending time for a quick chat. Lovely garden and surroundings and on a sunny day you couldn't wish for more. We normally have the fish and chips, each time its cooked perfect. Dog friendly too, so our little sausage dog was able to come too. Will be back again and again - would give it 6 stars if I could.

Came here mid week and the place was empty. We went purposely to eat and although the menu is very small we all managed to find something we liked. The food was lovely, the prawn and salmon starter could do without the Marie rose sauce as it over powered the frozen prawns and spoiled the smoked salmon. The ribeye steak was delicious and the prices were reasonable.

A beautiful oldy worldy pub in a lovely setting but unfortunately my visit wasn't as good as I had hoped. I visited for lunch with friends a few months back, the food was tasteless and was only luke warm and the service was slow even though it was virtually empty. The worst thing for me was the value for money - there was none. I visit a lot of similar pubs and I felt this was very expensive for the portion sizes. Fish & Chips with 9 chips and, yes, I did bring this to your attention on the day just to be told that was a normal portion.

Had pork belly rib roast for Sunday lunch. The meat had been slow cooked for hours. The pork was juicy and tender and the crackling to die for. There were roast and new potatoes, as well a mixed veg of courgettes, squash, carrots, peas and mange tout. There was so much on the plate that the cauliflower cheese had to served separately. This pub has everything it would seem - lovely setting ,characterful inside and friendly staff - just the place you would happily visit regularly. However the food is very basic and forgettable - a fish pie which just tasted of white sauce - for some reason it had scallops in and scallops need to be pan fried not served in a thick white sauce . Halloumi in breadcrumbs - a huge slab on top of a tasteless salad - halloumi which had no lovely salty taste . Such a shame as it is a delightful place .If only the food was a little more inspired -

We did Sunday lunch here recently and those that had the 'roast' said it was really good, didn't look the best, but it was home cooked and they said it was great. I had the haddock with veggie and poached egg with cheese sauce, it was nice and tasty, but I thought the portion size was a bit small for a main meal and the sauce was a bit thin - a chunk of bread to soak the sauce up and fill the meal out would have solved this little problem. Apart from the fish, I didn't notice any non-meat based meals and I thought generally the menu choices were a bit limited.Staff were all very friendly and nice, but were often absent and a little forgetful. Loos were nice and clean, dated, but clean and there are steps around the bar area, but I think the restaurant was more accessible. Nice looking garden which we didn't venture into.Would go again, but only if I am up this way again.

We visited on a Sunday lunchtime. We had booked for the latest slot which was 2.30. As last year, we were going to the Anstey Fair, just up the road.A good selection of real ales and reasonably priced house wines. An imaginative selection of starters, including fishy ones, so I close two, one as a main course, which was scallops with crispy bacon. Crispy bacon could have been less crispy and and the fish cakes seemed to have come from the freezer. I was disappointed that there was no fresh fish, other than two of the battered kind. Odd.However, everyone else enjoyed their soups, and mains, which were the house burger and a pork dish. There was a roast option too.Pudding selection good, so we tried the taster platter, which was yummy.A truly beautiful pub well maintained, Lovely people, dog friendly, cosy and cool on a hot summer day, but evidently cosy and warm in the winter, with that big fireplace.

What a find! We had never been here before but a car treasure hunt brought us here at Saturday lunch time. Most of us had a ploughmans or sandwiches which come served with a small salad and chips at a very reasonable price. Due to quite a few of us arriving at once it suddenly became very busy for them but they still managed to give friendly service and were happy to slightly change something from the menu for us. They were happy to accommodate dogs and children so are very family friendly. The fuller menu looked very good so I am sure many of us will find our way back there for a full meal.

This lovely pub changed hands some years ago and was always one of our favourite places. It was a real pleasure to return here and a nice run from North London on a sunny Saturday night. The food was all freshly prepared and could not be faulted. The only minor criticism was that there was no cappuccino machine. The pub is lovely, the restaurant rustic but quite empty which was surprising for a Saturday night. We will definitely return! Why have the hassle of driving into London when you can venture out to a place like this?

Good to find a country pub that will do the full menu plus Sunday roasts thus enabling our cycling club to enjoy top quality sandwiches plus chips and salad for a reasonable price. It's getting harder and harder to find country pubs that will offer lighter options on Sunday. Well done the Three Tuns!

My second visit to the 3 Tuns and it was equally as good as the first. The service was excellent - attentive without being pushy. We weren't hurried at all. The menu was varied and all cooked on the premises...the duck was superb. The owners clearly put a lot of effort into getting it right and they do! They might be tucked away in the countryside but they deserve to be busier. We will certainly be back.

4 had supper here on Friday; although we had booked the pub was fairly empty - which meant that atmosphere was lacking. The service was OK - as was the food; not great but OK. It seemed as pricey as better local pubs/restaurants (such as the Fox & Duck at Therfield or the 3 Tuns at Ashwell). The wine list is not very good. So - an OK evening but will probably not repeat it!

We were driving to Clavering to view a house and quite by chance came across The Thre Tuns on our way there.A sunny April day, so we sat in the garden and were warmly wecomed by Anita and her "helper! Although we did not require a lunch, lunch, the sandwich menu was great and we really enjoyed the warmth and hospitality that exudes from the Three Tuns! We'll be back as the saying goes!Best wishes,Tony and Maggie

Really nicely prepared dinner with very friendly, enthusiastic and helpful service. This is a very old tudor style pub with beams but it has been carefully refurbished with the restaurant in a new added annex. The restaurant is quite modern but the pub has been opened up so that it is part of the main bar. The place is spotlessly clean and very well maintained. The people are very friendly and relaxed which makes for a very pleasant visit.

Popped in here as I was on site locally and saw this on TripAdvisor. Although there isn't a massive selection for lunch, there is enough for most tastes, so I ordered the smoky seafood pie from the chalkboard. Very nice and hearty lunch, washed down with a half of Thatchers cider to round it off. With such nice food and a pretty setting, it is just a shame it is so off the beaten track and deserves to be frequented by a wider clientele.

Good service, lovely food, pleasant staff in an old fashioned local thatched pub. Plenty of room. Music not intrusive and pleasant to listen to.

I had recently visited this pub on a whim looking for a drink and some dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the quaint homely atmosphere with the open burning fires and comfy seating. The menu is fairly classic pub food with all the favourites, but the specials board expands the choice massively! We both had the duck breast which was cooked perfectly pink and the sauce that accompanied it worked really well. Would definitely recommend this pub to anyone passing by wanting a good warming meal!

Out walking in the area in a group of some 25 people we stopped for lunch at this fine public house run by Neil and Anita Martin. Greeted by a magnificent log fire which we were all in need of and then we all sat down to lunch. Without exception everybody indicated that they found to food to be first class so as a group we strongly recommend this establishment for the quality of its food and exceptional service. People, you will not be disappointed!!

This pub has a really nice friendly atmosphere and the food is great. Try the sausage sandwich followed by the honeycomb, ice cream and chocolate sauce dessert! Wonderfully comforting after a long walk and dogs are welcome.

This Pub came highly recommended to me by both friends and family and the experience lived up to expectations. The fillet of beef with bacon and Stilton was fantastic, everything we had as a group was wonderful. The icing on the cake is that the chef comes to the table to talk through which dishes are suitable for allergen sufferers, there was plenty of choice as the food is freshly prepared allowing some dishes to be adapted to suit.Very impressed and will be back soon.

We visited for lunch on a cold Saturday in January. The fire in the main bar area made a welcoming sight. The menu included the usual pub staples (sandwiches, Ploughmans, scampi, sausages and mash etc). The specials menu offered some interesting additional choices and,of these, the devilled kidney starter was enjoyed. (Portion sizes are generous and prices are reasonable).Service was friendly and very good.

6 of us ladies of leisure had breakfast in here this morning. Have been here a few times and they never disappoint. Food and service is consistently good. Run by a lovely friendly family. We all opted for omelettes ( different fillings) and they were perfect. Good coffee as well. Will be making this a more regular haunt . Can’t recommend enough

Whenever we go, this place is always busy no matter what day or time. This is simply because of the quality of the service and products. today, we had a sandwich. Mine, chicken salad with onion marmalade was simply delicious (who would think of marmalade in a chicken salad sandwich)? The other sandwich was prawn salad which I'm told was also delicious. Both sandwiches were at least an inch thick and no, that was not mostly salad, but chicken and prawn. My cappuccino was simply lovely. Add to this the staff are always friendly and accommodating, what else can anyone want?
