I genuinely don’t know why the owners here bother…well, they’re not! The bar was completely soul-less at 2.30 on a Saturday. The drinks offering pretty poor, the owner sitting in a corner on her laptop watching some live sport. The fire was roaring even though it was a warm day, but only in the front bar; the back bar didn’t have the fire lit but had a calor gas heater plonked in the middle of the room blasting heat out. It was all very tired inside, slightly grubby and uncared for. Staff were pretty vacant and unfriendly and unwelcoming. Sat in the garden which is overgrown and uncared for. Ordered dirty fries from a dirty and ripped menu, and they were completely inedible. Microwaved fries, cold in the middle, pulled pork absolutely nothing special. Left pretty quickly and won’t be returning. Such a shame for what could be, and used to be, a great pub. It’s really not hard to do things well.

We met up with old pals for Sunday lunch. It was perfect. Lovely roast beef from a herd in Devizes, perfect roasties, Yorkshires and a variety of vegetabvles all nicely cooked and with a good savolury gravy. Pudding was cheesecake and I had ice cream. The service was impecable and nothing was too much trouble for our lovely waitress. It was a pleasure to eat there and we will again.

What on earth has happened to the Three Tuns?.. We last came sometime last summer. It was delightful and classy. Gardens well kept, inside the pub well maintained. Visited again to today and sorry to see the pub and gardens look totally drab and uncared for. Building looks shabby to the eye. What has happened?.. Has the owner given up?.. I know it's a tough time for pubs at the moment and many are closing. Also a lot of pubs just don't get the support from the locals. The Three Tuns was previously a classy, upmarket place.. but was shocked to see how it appears to have gone down. Sorry to see.

This is an amazing place to eat. The young man behind the bar was very attentive, efficient and when my pudding arrived not cooked properly he was very apologetic and replaced it with a free pudding without any fuss. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was brilliant, just like pubs used to be. Would highly recommend here and will definitely go back.

We were staying nearby and the sun was shining so we decided on a lunchtime drink. It was disappointing. The drought beer was totally flat and barely drinkable. We sat outside in the pub garden but there were weeds everywhere and the car park area was similarly much in need of attention. These things matter. Even the steps from the garden to the pub were unswept and untidy. Someone needs to try a lot harder and raise standards.

We regularly pop to The Three Tuns for a drink and sometimes to eat. We are so pleased that it has become our friendly and welcoming village pub. Young, old, middle age, families go there now and it has become a real hub. Last night unexpectedly we are there basically because the sun was shining and we had enjoyed a refreshing beer in the garden whilst out walking. We decided to eat as well. We had a spicey veggie burger and a regular burger. The burger buns were really excellent- tasty and nicely warmed. Both burgers were delicious and good quality! The best veggie burger I have eaten in ages. The chips were outstanding and a delicious relish in the burgers. It was super - loved it!

Young lad behind bar was excellent! We are two bikers, early 60s, out for a ride and popped in for lunch. Greeted with smile, great service. Enjoyed the fish and chips (Friday special). Watched the barman interact and serve others in pub (about 6 people at 12pm but got busier). Very efficient and welcoming…a natural host.

Drinks arrived promptly - a good start. Didn’t order starters. However had hoped for a good roast. Only option was beef so two of us ordered that. Other 3 choices were 2 fish dishes and 1 veggie. Asked for rare beef but after a long wait it arrived VERY well done plus a Mediocre fish pie and ok -ish veg dish. Most of food was lukewarm or cold with anaemic roast pots. After another wait a v small jug of gravy arrived for the beef eaters and one of veg gravy followed in due course by some cold veg. Staff meant well but felt they were overwhelmed and inexperienced. They were let down by the kitchen. Didn’t feel pud was worth waiting for. Have had some great food here in the past and thought it would be worth the trip but sadly won’t be visiting again any time soon

An underwhelming lunch! The menu is minimalist and made even smaller by the unavailability of soup. Instead, we had Whitebait which came with an insipid sort of chilli jam. My main course was Mushroom and Chicken Stroganoff which consisted of unsliced mushrooms and dry chicken nuggets in a somewhat tasteless white sauce. I did not dare to ask my companion about his pie but his chips looked pretty average. A pint of bitter each and coffee all at a cost of around £65. I doubt we will return

Paid another visit to our local pub with friends and we may take it for granted so it's not until you bring friends here you realise how wonderful the pub, the staff and the food is. I'm terrible at leaving reviews when somewhere is very good I simply just come away and talk about it, it's only if somewhere is profoundly unacceptable I feel that I need to leave a review. So it was to my amazement to learn that a previous review had been written by someone in the village so negatively. I was dumbfounded by their call for the new owners to leave when I believe they have made every effort to improve the atmosphere and community feel of the pub and can hands down say what a genuine and lovely family they are. Would 100% this pub whether it's to go for a drink in your own or with friends, a coffee or a beer, you will feel welcome. Great mix of people! Great food with a regularly changing menu

It’s difficult to understand why the new landlords of this pub have come to Great Bedwyn. It’s a sleepy village in the Wiltshire countryside that deserves a quiet local with great ambience and delicious food. That’s what it used to be and why it had all the accolades….unfortunately now it’s unfriendly and cold with a substandard food menu that is poorly executed and loud live music disturbing the local residents late into the night. The community in Bedwyn is a mix of elderly residents and young families. Surely it would be good business sense to understand that and develop the pub to serve that local community. Instead those running it seem determined to force their brand of dreadful into this lovely village. We can only pray it changes hands again soon.

I have had many a lovely meal at this pub, all prior to the current team taking over its management. I chose this place to meet a friend over from Australia, with my mother and partner, and the entire experience was so poor I had to apologise to him at the end of the evening. The food was appalling, definitely far worse than any semi competent person could cook themselves at home, at a time when the place was all but empty. Both the beef and chicken burgers were cooked to death, until they were dry as a bone, and my first though upon tasting the burger was “this meat is off”. The “Cumberland” sausages were so uniform in length and straightness that they were definitely machine made, and by the look of them out of a freezer, though this was not questioned. The odd taste to the burger was put down to the rub used in it, but that is no excuse for overcooking. We politely mentioned the overcooking and the odd taste, and were told by the business owner that these were her best selling dishes! The evening started with us being told what was not available off a very brief menu, and frankly serving up Pieminster factory made pies is a very lazy way to run a pub food offer. There were no steaks because the meat supplier hadn’t turned up. I can’t imagine why. I had to correct the barman from pouring the wrong drinks, and to cap it all we were presented with an unrecognisable bill with dishes on it we hadn’t had, for about £106, only to then receive the correct bill for £92, which had printed on it “cash £100, change £8”. So the other table had received our bill, paid it and left, with the owners margin! It would take a lightning strike to put some energy and enthusiasm into this outfit, and I will certainly not return until they are long gone, which won’t be long I would imagine. Two dishes out of four complained about, and no gesture whatsoever. A recipe for failure.

My first impression was that the Three Tuns had possibly seen better days . Entrance to Car Park area covered in high weeds . Two ‘A’ Boards outside front door - one with a open sign and broken across the message and the other one advertising the coverage of the Womens World Cup Final 10 days ago etc ! Having said that a pleasant welcome at 12:45pm in a near deserted and fairly large Bar. Only one Bitter available - not a good sign . Menu on a clip board and highlighting the sort of speciality of pies , which we ordered with mash and chips . Found the pies came from Bristol - frankly very average - immediate thought was I have had better Pukka steak pies at under £2 from the Supermarket. Mash was microwaved and mash doesn’t reheat in a microwave well. Chips were fine, so I had chosen badly . At £11 for pie and mash or chips and gravy plus £2 for the peas , I was not over impressed at the quality . Can recommend the fruit crumble and custard as a desert though. From previous Good Pub Guide recommendations, think it is evident that the Pub has recently changed ownership . Tis a good location , surrounded by lovely Countryside a few miles East of Marlborough. Hope the new Owners can get their Food / beer offer up to speed shortly . Not sure on this visit if it was worth the journey or indeed repeating

This has to be some of the worst food I have had in a long time. Booked Saturday night 7.30pm and when we got there the place was empty. First clue! We ordered the belly pork and the beetroot salad for starter.. can’t really go wrong??? Well the pork was tiny, tough and was just sat in soy sauce and the beetroot was old salad leaves in a pile with VERY old dry beetroot in it. Then Burgers were shocking. Stale buns, chicken over done, the beef was tasteless and the could not even cook a decent chip. Awful!

A warm and friendly welcome to what is a typical village pub complete with blazing log fire. The food was excellent. Plentiful, well presented and reasonably priced. The veggi option was delicious a nut roast with the same trimmings as the lamb or pork options which was a welcome change from the usual mushroom stroganoff. Fried haddock was on the menu as a pescatarian option. A good choice of deserts were on offer, again reasonably priced. We would highly recommend the Three Tuns. Booking is advisable. It is dog friendly, has a convenient car park and the staff go above and beyond to ensure your visit is enjoyable and that you would look forward to return.

We went here for a drink with a view to eating based on the reviews we’d read. There was no porch lighting either inside or outside making it very difficult to see your way in, particularly as it was icy. Lovely log burner but absolutely no atmosphere in the pub. Poor choice of beers and house wine was pretty undrinkable. The restaurant looked unused & basic and all the tables were unlaid even though they were apparently open for meals. I feel I’ve walked into a very different pub to the 5* recommendations. What has happened???

This was our second visit to the Three Tuns, both times using a Travelzoo voucher. This time half of the pub had been taken over by a very glamorous group of ladies who were celebrating a birthday, which meant that the staff were at full stretch. The menu is pretty standard pub grub with a few interesting items, chicken confit etc. What sets it apart is the quality of the ingredients - top notch. I’m lactose intolerant and so asked for a burger minus the cheese. It arrived complete with melted cheese and the waiter was extremely apologetic when he realised the mistake. A fresh one was cooked and it was well worth the wait, absolutely delicious! Our drinks were a little slow in coming but given how busy the pub was, we were quite happy to be patient. Whilst we were there we picked up a leaflet about walks in the area - a perfect excuse to return for another lunch!

The food was ok, nothing to be excited about it. Like the title said nothing that cannot be cooked at home, the chicken confit was an heresy but that is a personal opinion and taste as it makes the chicken “pasty” and tasteless as for the rest a burger is a burger, a steak with chimichurri sauce again nothing that we cannot produce at home. It was a trial not to be repeated.

Found this meal deal on Great Escapes and was enticed by the price, the location and the menu. It met most of these criteria, it was definitely a country pub approached along narrow lanes and beautiful countryside culminating in a canal (the Kennet and Avon) and a railway station (GWR). The pub itself was clean if a little basic. The menu was not extensive and tended to favour fish dishes which was quite difficult for a confirmed meat eater. The service was very good and attentive with little or no waiting between courses. We visited with friends for dinner, two of us had half pint of prawns, delicious they were too. Two had scotch egg, which looked lovely and we were assured they were. Mains were two bavette steaks, one ham egg and chips, one burger. The steaks were really tasty, albeit a tiny bit chewy, which is maybe a little unfair because they were no way inedible. The ham egg and chips was delicious. The burger was too. Prices were enough, any more and would have to rethink on eating there. Too full for desserts. I am not in favour of an added service charge, even if it’s discretionary! Which always looks really mean if you knock it off to choose what you would like to tip, so we paid up, but all in all food really good, service, one waitress was very good, others a little unsure of what was going on I think. We will happily go back, but might knock off the twelve and a half % tip and leave what amount we think it is worth.

First visit for a group of four. We weren't made to feel very welcome on arrival because the manager ignored us. In the end, we were shown to a table in the corner. Now the young waiter and waitress were brilliant but the manager was miserable all night. The food was nice but, in my opinion, expensive and small portions. Similarly, the sweet was nice, but small portions. I would have awarded a 4 but the bill came with a 12.5% service charge included. This included drinks which I don't think is fair.

Ate here on New Year's Day. Excellent food, nice pub to sit in. Had the beetroot salad followed by a burger, both were excellent. Would recommend.

Dinner was absolutely delicious, we had a half pint of very large prawns, followed by steak (bavette) which neither of us has eaten before but Tom assured us it would be every bit as good as sirloin and he was spot on, it was tender and delicious. The house red wine slipped down nicely, great service all in all one of the best dinners I’ve had in the area.

My partners favourite local pub but I find it disappointing for vegetarian food. Wish they did more than a salad so that we could choose this pub as a regular. Fingers crossed they change the menu soon.

I stayed in Gt Bedwyn whilst golfing in the area, so was looking for a quiet place for a relaxed supper. The other village pub had closed and would have been more up my street. I've eaten at some of England's best, Waterside Bray, Bibendum and Pont de la Tour London etc so am not afraid to 'fine-dine' and pay for it when the occasion calls. However Three Tuns didn't do the trick for me. It is now the village 'local' but I got the feeling that this wasn't a universally popular 'local.' The meals were adequate but costly for the quality in my view. It had a very loud atmosphere, which I didn't enjoy and conversations seemed to be competing to be heard.

Most enjoyable evening with some of the best food we have had for quite a while. Confit duck bubble and squeak was melt in the mouth scrumptious. Sweet potato and coriander soup was the most unctuous soup I have ever had! Great wine list too. Well done to the staff at the Three Tuns Will highly recommend you to all our friends.

We were a party of 8 people and met for lunch at The Three Tuns. Our host suggested it was a 'good pub, if a bit pricey'; and we stand by that. Food was very good and portion sizes were sufficient.

What a fantastic find! Good atmosphere, cosy with two logburners. Bar area is quite basic, but a nice feeling of an older pub, larger dining room beyond.

I sensed a degree of 'London Influence' when we dined here for Sunday Lunch. Scrubbed tables, simple decor, unobtrusive service, and a hand-drier in the Gents which doesn't seem to have worked in ages.

This was our first visit to the The Three Tuns for many years and ownership has changed a few times. We heard good reports on the present owner so we went for lunch. The food was imaginative and well presented. Portion size was generous and the menu varied. Unfortunately the front of house: welcome, service, attention to detail was not good. When we arrived those behind the bar made no attempt to greet us (we had booked a table) and had to wait for attention. We were told we could choose our table from two rooms but went alone to see them. The menu arrived and the food was very good. We asked for (it was not offered) a hug of water which arrived with no glasses ... the pudding came in a glass and put directly on to the wooden table. It was a pity about the lack of attention - some training is needed.

So after reading the many wonderful reviews in the national newspapers, my husband and I decided to make a special trip to the pub to enjoy a lovely Friday night meal. When we arrived we were met by wonderful friendly staff and were seated in the restaurant. Then the fun started! Within minutes there was a constant flow of young children running through the restaurant out to the garden leaving the door open. Then running from the garden through the restaurant to the bar. Staff and other customers would get up and close the door, no sooner was the door closed then it opened again another 6 or 7 children would run through. Was it not for the fact that it was a chilly evening and we were there to enjoy a wonderful evening together and have a lovely meal, it might have been funny. Instead it was really irritating and all the the customers around us were not happy. The flow of 25 or 30 children running through the restaurant eventually stopped, I hasten to add after we had hurriedly eaten our main course, after the staff locked the door to stop the children running through the restaurant. We paid and left. What a shame after the hype in the national papers.

Lovely food, welcoming and efficient, professional staff, good overall atmosphere, unlike so called gastro pubs the Three Tuns has different options but without the poncy feel to the place

Had dinner here with my partner at the weekend. What a busy pub and get atmosphere! The waitresses looked under pressure but handed it really well. Food was really well cooked. Scotch Egg was delicious and the burger to die for. Will definitely be back here again!!!

Having had lovely food at the Tuns before we thought where better to celebrate our anniversary! We we super impressed! Our starters, mergeuz sausage scotch egg and the venison terrine, were presented really nicely and tasted fabulous! I'm not a massive fan of terrine usually but after trying my husband's I would definitely order it next time! The mains were equally fabulous, I really enjoyed my roasted hake, it was cooked to perfection and my husband was full to the brim after his duck, he complimented the passion fruit and whiskey sauce to the waitress! The bar staff were friendly and welcoming, the waitress took us to our table and was very knowledgeable of the wines on offer, she recommended a Portuguese red that was on the specials list, it was amazing! We polished off the wine and followed it up with a couple of drinks at the bar which offered a fantastic range of gin and lovely ciders! The pub has a fantatic mix of dining and bar area and everyone was very helpful and friendly!

Sadly have to agree with previous recent reviews, the service is terrible. Yesterday evening, not overly busy, on arrival we had no greeting by anyone and then having attracted the attention of one of the staff, evidently not having a grasp on the bookings for the evening she were asked if we were booked under some sort of scheme (we had not). Given a drinks menu and shown into a sterile back room and ignored for 15 minutes until we eventually our drinks order was taken. After a further wait, had to ask for a food menu and were told 'they hadn't printed enough" and we ordered a simple starter (no cooking involved) and a main and asked if there was a problem in the kitchen and were told 'No'. After 45 minutes, we paid for our drinks and left - apparently the starters were 'just arriving'. Went to Mr Stein's establishment 15 mins away, seated and served immediately with attentive, professional but not obsequious service, good food at similar prices at the lower - mid range (hake same price). Apparently the food is good but we will never know, as we won't waste another evening at the Three Tuns in our search for our ideal local ...
